Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (foot), who expects to play in the team's preseason game against the Houston Texans Saturday, Aug. 16, said he is feeling 100 percent healthy. Jones fractured his right foot Oct. 7 of last season. The Falcons plan to be cautious with him in the preseason, and he's likely to play just one series Saturday. Jones didn't play in last week's game and has been on a practice schedule of one day on and one day off.
Fantasy Tip: If Jones is completely healthy entering Week 1, he should have no problem reclaiming his role as the team's No. 1 receiver. You should be glad to have him as a WR1 if others in your league let him slip because of his injury last year.
Thu, 14 Aug 2014 19:53:45 -0700
Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (foot) expects to play in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 16.
Fantasy Tip: Jones was developing into a top-tier wide receiver prior to suffering a broken foot last year, and while he continues to progress, it remains to be seen if he will still have the same big-play ability. While there are risks involved with picking Jones, there is also a chance you could end up with a WR1 for a WR2 price.

You don't want to rush anything and go out there and play a preseason game when it really doesn't matter, if something happens," Jones said. "We've just got to be cautious right now."

I feel like I'm actually stronger now because I've been doing back squats; getting my quads stronger. Muscles in my hamstrings."
Fantasy Tip: While there is always a little added risk when drafting a player coming off of a serious injury, Jones' recovery appears to be on track. When healthy, he is a big-play weapon in Atlanta's pass-heavy offense, and he should still be considered a strong No. 2 fantasy WR at this point.

"All I can is work and get back in shape, fix this foot and get back out there so my teammates can depend on me, and also have my bosses depend on me."

He was recently cleared to resume running routes during organized team activities, but Jones said he won't take part in team drills during a mandatory minicamp next week. "It is a serious injury, and knowing that I broke the same bone in a different spot over the course of two years. So it's a very serious matter, and we're not trying to play with it," Jones said. "We're taking all the precautions before throwing me back out there and just saying, 'He's ready to go.' I feel great, I feel good, but at the same time, we have to take it slow because the season is still far away." Jones hasn't taken any passes from QB Matt Ryan this offseason.

Our focus on Julio is one thing, and that's having him prepared for our opener. ... He's progressing well. We're not going to do anything to hinder his timeframe in terms of getting back to work with us."
Fantasy Tip: The team previously said Jones was ahead of schedule in his rehab. This is probably just a case of the Falcons being ultra-cautious with their top offensive weapon. Assming Jones is fully healthy this year and his foot doesn't slow him down, he should return to being a WR1 for fantasy players.

For now, Harry Douglas will move to a prominent role in the passing game alongside Tony Gonzalez with Roddy White (hamstring, ankle) hobbled.

His knee injury is unrelated to the injury he suffered Sunday night.
Fantasy Tip: Jones returned in the game last Sunday to make some big catches in the team's loss, so his injury isn't serious at all. He should be fully expected to play again in Week 5. Keep him in your starting lineups.

Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez is looking forward to facing the Miami Dolphins in Week 3. The Dolphins have shown a penchant for double teaming the opposition's top wide receiver, which could create more chances for Gonzalez. "They doubled up (Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald) a lot, and you would probably think they'd do the same thing against (Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones), which is going to create one-on-one matchups with other guys," Gonzalez said.
Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins have had difficulty containing the opposition's tight end, and Gonzalez might be a Top 5 option at his position given the struggles in coverage and potential double teams to give Gonzalez a chance to work one-on-one.
