Falcons | Julio Jones to be evaluated in March

Tue, 07 Feb 2017 09:21:33 -0800

Updating a previous story, Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) told ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure on Tuesday, Feb. 7, he will have his troublesome toe evaluated next month to decide if surgery is needed or not.

Fantasy Tip: It would not be surprising if Jones undergoes surgery considering the fact he dealt with the injury for most of the season. The ailment obviously did not hinder him all that much, however, as he amassed 19 catches for 334 yards and three touchdowns during the Falcons' playoff run. Jones' ongoing foot issues are something fantasy owners need to keep in mind going forward, but he's arguably the most dominant receiver in the game when healthy.

Falcons | Surgery possible for Julio Jones

Mon, 06 Feb 2017 16:13:13 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) may undergo surgery this offseason to repair a toe injury.

Fantasy Tip: Jones dealt with the injury for most of the second half of the season but did not miss any of the playoff games. He may be limited during workouts this offseason but should be fine for training camp. Jones is one of the best receivers in the NFL and should be a No. 1 receiver in all fantasy leagues.

Falcons | Julio Jones may need offseason surgery

Sun, 05 Feb 2017 07:33:46 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe, ankle) may need to undergo offseason surgery for a sprained toe which has bothered him for most of the year, according to multiple sources. He will receive a full evaluation on his foot following Super Bowl LI. Jones has also been hampered by a sprained ankle but will not need to go under the knife for that injury.

Fantasy Tip: Jones was a limited participant in practice throughout the week but did not seem concerned about how the toe injury would affect his performance in the Super Bowl. He had nine catches for 180 receiving yards and two touchdowns versus the Packers in the NFC Championship Game, so owners should have no reservations about using him in any postseason fantasy contests. Jones should also be viewed as an elite WR1 option in all formats entering next year's drafts.

Falcons | Julio Jones limited again but will play

Fri, 03 Feb 2017 12:20:16 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) was limited in practice for the third consecutive day Friday, Feb. 3, but is not listed on the injury report and "ready to go" for Super Bowl 51 on Sunday, Feb. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Jones has been maintaining all week that he's fine, so the trio of limited practices shouldn't really cause any concern. And who can doubt him? While playing through injury in the NFC Championship Game, he burned the Packers for nine catches, 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He's more likely than not to post another big stat line in Houston.

Falcons | Julio Jones officially limited

Thu, 02 Feb 2017 14:51:39 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe, foot) was officially listed as a limited participant in practice Thursday, Feb. 2. As previously reported, Jones had said that was full go at practice.

Fantasy Tip: The Falcons are understandably being cautious with their star receiver before the biggest game of his career. They want him in tip top shape in a tough matchup against Malcolm Butler and the Patriots. Regardless of the outcome, Jones will remain a top-tier WR1 in 2017.

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe, foot) said he's flying around and is a full go at practice Thursday, Feb. 2. Jones was listed as limited in practice Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is the best receiving option in fantasy Super Bowl pools by a long shot. However, the New England Patriots have a history of keying on other teams' best player and not allowing them to beat them.

Falcons | Julio Jones ready to go

Wed, 01 Feb 2017 06:43:55 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe, foot) said he's ready to go and doesn't expect his foot injuries to limit him in the Super Bowl.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is the top option by a large margin in Super Bowl pools. However, the New England Patriots have a history of keying on the opposition's best player and not allowing them to beat them. Jones is the best receiver to be featured in the big game in years, and he's an elite option in all formats.

Falcons | Julio Jones will be good to go

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 12:01:50 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) said he will be a full participant in practice this week and that his ailing toe won't be an issue for the Super Bowl.

Fantasy Tip: Jones will have his hands full with Malcolm Butler this weekend. Butler defended Antonio Brown and the Steelers well in the AFC Championship, but perhaps Jones' size will give him a needed advantage. As long as Jones stays healthy this offseason, he should be one of the first receivers taken in fantasy drafts, per usual.

Falcons | Julio Jones logs another limited practice

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 09:49:23 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) "looked great" during a limited practice Monday, Jan. 30, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Fantasy Tip: It's an upgrade over Jones looking "good" in limited practice Friday. In all seriousness, Jones was not listed on the initial injury report for Super Bowl LI and should be expected to receive his full complement of snaps against the New England Patriots. The biggest concern for owners hoping for another big game from him this weekend will be to what degree the Patriots attempt to take Jones out of the game.

Falcons | More to ATL offense than Julio Jones

Sun, 29 Jan 2017 17:19:43 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones had less than 40 receiving yards in six games this year, and the Falcons went 6-0 in those games and averaged 37 points.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is arguably the most dominant receiver in the game, and Atlanta's offense has the weapons to make opponents pay for doubling him. As long as Jones emerges from the Super Bowl healthy, he is worthy of a top-five pick in 2017.

Falcons | Julio Jones in a class by himself

Fri, 27 Jan 2017 20:37:27 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones averaged more than 100 receiving yards per game in 2016, and he is he first player in NFL history to average more than 100 receiving yards per game in four different seasons.

Fantasy Tip: The record is even more impressive when you consider Jones has played just six seasons. He has some injury concerns, but he is well worth the risk in the top half of the first round.

Falcons | Julio Jones gets in limited practice

Fri, 27 Jan 2017 10:39:15 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) practiced in limited fashion Friday, Jan. 27. Earlier in the week, it had been reported Jones would not practice at all during the open week leading up to Super Bowl LI.

Fantasy Tip: While "limited practice" can mean any number of different things, it has to be considered good news Jones was willing and able to practice this week. It was reported prior to Sunday's NFC Championship Game that Jones is playing through three separate foot injuries, but he told reporters Thursday he is feeling "good". Jones is fully expected to play in the Super Bowl but will undoubtedly be the focus of the New England Patriots' defensive game plan.

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) said his injured toe is feeling good.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is receiving this week off to rest his toe but will be back on the practice field next week. He has posted 247 yards and three touchdowns during the postseason and is a must-start option for owners for the rest of the season. Jones should be a No. 1 receiver in drafts next season.

Wed, 25 Jan 2017 12:40:37 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) will not participate in practice this week.

Fantasy Tip: Jones has been dealing with his toe injury for a while, so he will receive some time to rest during the week. He should be fine for Super Bowl LI and can be a No. 1 receiver for any fantasy owners playing next week. Jones should also be a No. 1 receiver in leagues next season and likely will be selected in the first or second round.

Falcons | Julio Jones in rare postseason company

Mon, 23 Jan 2017 22:00:27 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones became one of three players in NFL history to have multiple postseason games with at least 180 receiving yards following his performance in the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers. The other two are retired WRs Jerry Rice and Fred Biletnikoff.

Fantasy Tip: Jones continues to make his case as perhaps being the best receiver in all of pro football. There figures to be more than a healthy number of points scored in the upcoming Super Bowl, so it wouldn't be that surprising if Jones adds another such monstrous effort to this total.

Fantasy Tip: Jones will be able to play against the Green Bay Packers and should be a big part of the team's passing game. He has posted at least 60 yards in each of the last four games and has a touchdown in back-to-back games. Owners in all leagues should consider Jones as a No. 1 receiver.

Falcons | Julio Jones logs full practice

Fri, 20 Jan 2017 10:45:46 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) "looked good" while getting in a full practice Friday, Jan. 20, and will not have any limitations in the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Fantasy Tip: Great news for Jones, the Falcons and any owners planning on using him in fantasy this weekend. Jones is expected to draw Ladarius Gunter in shadow coverage after the Packers' cornerback was used in the same fashion against Odell Beckham Jr. and Dez Bryant the past two weeks. Bryant dusted Gunter for nine catches, 132 yards and two touchdowns last week, so Jones could easily be the best fantasy play of the week.

Falcons | Julio Jones will not practice Wednesday

Wed, 18 Jan 2017 10:30:07 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (foot) will not practice Wednesday, Jan. 18, by design, according to Falcons head coach Dan Quinn. Jones will "do more" later in the week, per Quinn.

Fantasy Tip: The all-world receiver should be in fantasy lineups if he dresses, which is the expectation. Green Bay's secondary is abysmal, so even a hobbled Jones should find some room.

Falcons | Julio Jones should play in NFC Championship

Mon, 16 Jan 2017 09:20:12 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) is expected to be limited during practice this week, but head coach Dan Quinn believes Jones will be "ready to rock" for the NFC Championship Game.

Fantasy Tip: Jones departed in the fourth quarter of the Falcons' Divisional Round victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, but it was quickly reported he could have remained in the game had Atlanta not been ahead by multiple scores. Along with Antonio Brown and Julian Edelman, Jones should be in the running for top fantasy receiver honors next weekend when he gets a crack at the Green Bay Packers' shorthanded secondary.

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (foot) left the NFC Divisional Round game against the Seattle Seahawks with a foot injury. He is questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: It is unclear whether or not Jones aggravated an existing toe sprain or suffered another injury. If his day is over, he will finish with six catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. Taylor Gabriel, Mohamed Sanu and Justin Hardy will wrap up the game as the Falcons' top three receivers.

Falcons | Julio Jones won't have snaps monitored

Fri, 30 Dec 2016 14:37:18 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) won't have his snaps monitored, according to head coach Dan Quinn. "He looked good over the last couple of days, so I'm not going to monitor him," Quinn said. "If it gets sore, then we'll take him out. He looked good in practice (Friday, Dec. 30). He looked strong. He looked explosive."

Fantasy Tip: After playing a season-low 39 snaps in his return last week following a two-game absence, it appears owners can fire up their WR1 with full confidence again. If the Falcons had nothing to play for, then there would be concerns, but Atlanta still has the opportunity to garner a first-round bye in the postseason, meaning Jones should see his usual workload in the season finale. As long as that's the case, he's one of the best wide receiver plays on the board.

Fantasy Tip: Jones had four catches for 60 yards last week, which isn't bad for a player that was hampered so much. If he's not on a snap count, he remains an elite WR1 target against the New Orleans Saints in the season finale.

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) played a season-low 39 snaps (62 percent of the offense) Saturday, Dec. 24, against the Carolina Panthers. Jones admitted that he was cautious and mindful of his toe injury in his first game back. "I was good throughout the whole game, but I was just trying to be careful," Jones said. "I was just in and out, not trying to let that flame up. I wasn't (on a limit.) It was just how I felt. I'm not going to put myself in a situation to hurt the team."

Fantasy Tip: He still had four catches for 60 yards, which isn't a typical game for him, but it still comes out to 10 points in PPR leagues. He could have the same approach against the New Orleans Saints this week. The Falcons are in the playoffs, but they're still working for a first-round bye. He'll be a WR1 option without his usual flair in the elite window in Week 17.

Falcons | Julio Jones expected to practice Tuesday

Tue, 20 Dec 2016 10:52:47 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) will likely get in a limited practice Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Fantasy Tip: There will be plenty of owners clamoring for Jones to make it back in time in hopes he can hang another 300 yards on the Panthers again like he did in Week 4, but the Falcons have done the prudent thing so far by being cautious with him. Atlanta likely wants him back this week as it tries to potentially wrap up the NFC South, but his return is not a given. If he plays, he is an obvious WR1 in fantasy championship week.

Fri, 16 Dec 2016 10:01:04 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) will not play Week 15 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: It's a tough blow for owners to be without their WR1 for a second straight week during the fantasy playoffs, but it's the right call for the Falcons, who shouldn't need Jones against the one-win 49ers. Taylor Gabriel has played at a low-end WR1 level for over a month and should be able to get free for at least one big-play touchdown yet again. Mohamed Sanu is expected back and could be considered as a low-end flex play.
