Texans | J.J. Watt cleared, ready for OTAs

Wed, 01 Feb 2017 06:54:06 -0800

Updating an earlier report, Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) said he has been cleared for football activities, and he'll be ready for organized team activities. He said he'd probably have a separate program, though, to be on the safe side.

Fantasy Tip: Watt had two back surgeries and another one on his groin in 2016. He was the top DL option in fantasy heading into last year, but Khalil Mack bridged the gap. If Mack is eligible at DL next season, he and Watt could be interchangeable atop the position heading into drafts.

Texans | J.J. Watt doing well

Wed, 01 Feb 2017 06:05:33 -0800

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) said his rehab from back surgery is going well.

Fantasy Tip: Watt underwent two back surgeries and a groin operation in 2016, and the back operations cast some doubt on whether he'll be able to return to his elite level. He was, hands down, the best defensive lineman in fantasy before the latest injury. If Khalil Mack is eligible at DL, he could be that guy this year. However, Watt is still an elite option with a big caution flag.

Texans | J.J. Watt has surgery

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 06:11:01 -0700

Updating previous reports, Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) had surgery on his back Thursday, Sept. 29, and he's expected to be ready for the 2017 season. He was out for the season whether surgery was performed or not.

Fantasy Tip: Watt has had multiple back surgeries in the last few months, and there is some concern he won't be able to return to the elite level he has performed. Time will tell, but he'll be a high-end target in IDP leagues with some risk attached to him next season.

Texans | J.J. Watt should be ready for 2017

Thu, 29 Sep 2016 10:23:56 -0700

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) likely will not be able to play again in 2016, but the Texans believe he will be ready for the 2017 season. The team does not have any long-term concerns about Watt's injury.

Fantasy Tip: Owners in IDP leagues will need to keep an eye on Watt's recovery over the next several months to see if suffers any setbacks. He will be a risky option for owners moving forward but should still be one of the better players in IDP leagues.

Texans | J.J. Watt to IR

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 08:03:21 -0700

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Watt is one of the best players in IDP leagues, but it's unlikely to have the amount of bench spots where you can comfortably sit him out for the off chance he returns late in the season. If you do have space, stash him in hopes of the unlikely. However, reports are his season is likely over.

Tue, 27 Sep 2016 21:47:29 -0700

Updating previous reports, Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) will be placed on Injured Reserve Wednesday, Sept. 28, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Although he would be eligible to return Nov. 27, sources indicate Watt is "probably" done for the season.

Fantasy Tip: Watt was likely the No. 1 DT taken in most IDP leagues, so his loss will be felt. Look for Jadeveon Clowney to see an increased role moving forward.

Texans | J.J. Watt expected to go on IR

Tue, 27 Sep 2016 18:28:46 -0700

Updating a previous post, Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) will likely be placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Sept. 28. There was no word on whether the IR will be season-ending, although Watt could miss the rest of the year.

Fantasy Tip: As a previous post said, Watt is an elite IDP and this will greatly hurt the Texans defense. Jadeveon Clowney may be a very popular waiver-wire pickup this week.

Texans | J.J. Watt could be out for season

Tue, 27 Sep 2016 17:53:00 -0700

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) has re-injured his back and is expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time, perhaps for the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Watt is an elite NFL player and an elite IDP option in fantasy leagues. The Texans will miss his presence, but perhaps it will open the door more for Jadeveon Clowney to get his career going. Clowney is worth a pickup in IDP leagues if he's available.

Texans | J.J. Watt contained again

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 05:50:14 -0700

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt was held to two tackles and no sacks Thursday, Sept. 22, in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: He had 1.5 sacks last week, but he had two clunkers in Week 1 and last night. He should only get stronger as the season progresses and remains an elite DL option in IDP leagues.

Texans | J.J. Watt contained

Tue, 13 Sep 2016 05:22:22 -0700

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt had just one tackle and three quarterback hits in Week 1, but he felt great and played 88 percent of the snaps on defense. "I knew I wouldn't have any problems with my back, and I didn't," Watt said. "Definitely knocked some rust off. It felt good to go out there and get some live shots at you and get back in to the flow of things."

Fantasy Tip: Watt could heat things up a bit against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. It was a quiet game for him, but he needs to remain in your lineup if he's healthy.

Texans | J.J. Watt limited in practice

Thu, 08 Sep 2016 19:25:47 -0700

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.
