White Sox | Avisail Garcia trying for consistency

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 16:59:19 -0800

Chicago White Sox OF Avisail Garcia is in excellent shape and is 20 pounds lighter than he was at the end of the 2015 season and has a new plan in place for the 2016 season with the help of hitting coach Todd Steverson. Garcia said he has worked with Steverson on finding a consistent stance.

"You have more chances when you swing at strikes because you can see, when I swing at strikes, I can hit like the start of the season. I know I can do better. That's why I've been preparing myself. When you work hard and prepare for something, you don't have a chance to fall. Prepare yourself, be focused and play every game right," Garcia said.

Fantasy Tip: You won't have to pay much for a potential rebound season from Garcia in fantasy drafts in the late rounds of deep mixed leagues. He's still only 24, too, so he could develop more power, and he's in the perfect environment for it in a lineup that is boosted by the arrival of Brett Lawrie and Todd Frazier. Definitely post-hype sleeper potential here at a cheap price.

White Sox | Avisail Garcia looking to steal more bases

Thu, 28 Jan 2016 17:49:59 -0800

Chicago White Sox OF Avisail Garcia is hoping to be a viable threat on the basepaths this season, after being successful on just seven of 14 attempts last year. He has just 14 stolen bases in 289 career MLB games but had 78 steals over seven minor league seasons, including 23 steals in 2012.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia had a somewhat disappointing 2015 campaign, batting .257 with 13 home runs and 59 RBIs in 148 regular-season games, which explains why he's trying to be more of a threat to steal bases. He should be selected in the middle rounds of AL-only leagues and the deeper rounds of mixed leagues.

White Sox | Avisail Garcia avoids arbitration

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 16:47:40 -0800

Chicago White Sox OF Avisail Garcia avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal with the team worth $2.1 million.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia had a decent 2015 season when he recorded a .257 batting average with 13 home runs. He should be in the starting lineup most of the time this season and could be a late-round options in deeper mixed leagues as well as a fine AL-only league option.

White Sox | Avisail Garcia on the block?

Thu, 19 Nov 2015 09:45:53 -0800

Chicago White Sox OF Avisail Garcia is available in a trade this winter, and the White Sox have entertained offers for him this month, according to major league sources. However, Chicago remains optimistic on him after he hit .257/.309/.365 with 13 home runs and 59 RBI in 601 plate appearances in 2015. But the White Sox have more options around Garcia, namely OFs Melky Cabrera and Trayce Thompson. Garcia struck out 54 times and had only eight walks from June 9 to Aug. 3 last year. Garcia is also a below-average defender in the outfield.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia is still only 24 years old, so he has plenty of upside left, it just may not come with the White Sox as they look to upgrade other parts of their roster. Chicago is an ideal location for a hitter, though, so if he remains with the Pale Hose, he could easily improve on his power and average if he can be more consistent with his command of the strike zone. He's one to watch as a value pick in fantasy drafts in 2016.

White Sox | No Avisail Garcia vs. Tigers

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 15:39:27 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Avisail Garcia is not in the starting lineup Friday, Oct. 2. OF J.B. Shuck draws into the lineup and is batting fifth against Detroit Tigers SP Alfredo Simon Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Shuck ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) lands in a slam-dunk matchup, and he has shown well when given an opportunity this season with a .351 on-base percentage. There isn't a lot of upside, but Simon has allowed a .877 OPS to left-handed hitters. Shuck is a nice low-priced target at FantasyScore Friday.

White Sox | Four Regulars out for White Sox

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 07:28:21 -0700

Chicago White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez, OF Avisail Garcia, 1B Adam LaRoche and C Tyler Flowers are not in the starting lineup against the New York Yankees Sunday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: J.B. Shuck ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) draws into the lineup and is batting fifth against New York SP Luis Severino ($7,600, 15.2% of cap), and Shuck could be an off-the-radar outfield option at FantasyScore Sunday. Rob Brantly ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) and Tyler Saladino ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) are nothing more than desperation fliers Sunday.

White Sox | Adam LaRoche returns to lineup

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 10:31:15 -0700

Chicago White Sox DH Adam LaRoche is batting fifth against New York Yankees SP Adam Warren Saturday, Sept. 26. OF Avisail Garcia, who served as the designated hitter Friday, Sept. 25, is not in the starting lineup Saturday.

Fantasy Tip: LaRoche ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is batting .196 during the month of September and just .191 since the All-Star break. Avoid using him in FantasyScore.

White Sox | Adam LaRoche sitting vs. Yankees

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 13:42:54 -0700

Chicago White Sox 1B Adam LaRoche is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 25. OF Avisail Garcia is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid LaRoche ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday, and outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, he isn't worth a roster spot. Garcia ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) owns a .718 OPS against lefties and projects as a low-end outfield option at FanatsyScore Friday.

White Sox | Adam LaRoche back in the lineup

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 12:55:05 -0700

Chicago White Sox 1B Adam LaRoche (knee) is batting fifth as the designated hitter against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda Thursday, Sept. 24. OF Avisail Garcia is not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: LaRoche ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) hasn't played since Sunday, Sept. 13, and he owns an uninspiring .181/.252/.330 since the beginning of August. FantasyScore players cannot target LaRoche with confidence given how deep the player pool is at first base. Garcia ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is having a disappointing campaign with just 17 doubles, 12 home runs and a .367 slugging percentage.

White Sox | Adam LaRoche not healed

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 14:52:38 -0700

Chicago White Sox 1B Adam LaRoche (knee) remains out of the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 15. OF Avisail Garcia is serving as the designated hitter and OF J.B. Shuck is starting in right field and batting sixth against Oakland Athletics SP Aaron Brooks.

Fantasy Tip: Shuck ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) isn't a terrible deep sleeper for FantasyScore owners tonight against the struggling Brooks, but just keep in mind that he has no home runs this year and a career high of just two.
