Buccaneers | Doug Martin injured late in win

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 18:30:03 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (undisclosed) left the Week 13 game against the San Diego Chargers late in the second half. He said he was "bent back" late in the game, which is why RB Jacquizz Rodgers saw so much time down the stretch.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ended up with 17 runs for 45 yards and a touchdown while also hauling in a 23-yard catch on his only target. When healthy he is a solid RB2 in all fantasy leagues. We'll monitor his practice status all week and let you know if he'll be available for Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers practices in full again

Fri, 02 Dec 2016 12:59:32 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) was a full participant in practice for the third straight day Friday, Dec. 2. He's considered questionable to play in the team's Week 13 game Sunday, Dec. 4, against the San Diego Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: It's looking very likely that Rodgers will be able to make his return to action this weekend, but he'll be returning under different circumstances. Previously, Rodgers was starting at running back for the Bucs, but since then, Doug Martin has returned to reclaim his job. As a result, Rodgers will merely be playing behind him and shouldn't be relied upon in any formats.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers a full participant

Thu, 01 Dec 2016 13:42:38 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) participated fully in practice Thursday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers should return to action this week, but he'll be playing behind Doug Martin. Additionally, the Bucs will probably ease Rodgers back into the swing of things after a prolonged absence. He'll have a role in the passing game, though, with Charles Sims on IR and is worth a pickup if he's available.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers a full participant

Wed, 30 Nov 2016 14:57:48 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers appears to be ready for a return, but he'll be playing behind Doug Martin. Don't be too antsy to start Rodgers. The Buccaneers were careful with bringing him back to full practice, so he could very well be on a snap count upon his return. He is worth a pickup in PPR leagues if available.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers unlikely for Week 12

Wed, 23 Nov 2016 19:53:18 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) could have practiced last week, a league source said Wednesday, Nov. 23, but the team is approaching his return "extremely cautiously." He is unlikely to play in Week 12 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Before Rodgers' injury, he was starting with Doug Martin and Charles Sims on the shelf. Now, Martin is back and Sims is on the recovery trail. Even when Rodgers is able to return he is only worth a look in the deepest of PPR leagues.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers ruled out again

Fri, 18 Nov 2016 14:20:25 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) will not play in Week 11 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers figures to remain sidelined indefinitely, although he did shed his walking boot earlier this week. When he is cleared to return, owners should expect him to assume the same complementary passing-down role that made Charles Sims a bit of a late-season fantasy stud last year.

Buccaneers | No practice for Jacquizz Rodgers

Thu, 17 Nov 2016 15:23:59 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) did not practice Thursday, Nov. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Doug Martin will be the main man again in Tampa's backfield for the foreseeable future. Rodgers could return to a pass-catching role once he's healthy, but he won't be much more than a handcuff if Martin remains healthy.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers out again

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 13:32:48 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) did not practice again Friday, Nov. 11, and he has been ruled out for the Week 10 game against the Chicago Bears. In fact, he was still seen in the locker room wearing his walking boot.

Fantasy Tip: With Doug Martin unlikely to make his return, it appears Peyton Barber and Mike James will shoulder the load against the Bears.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rogers sits out practice again

Thu, 10 Nov 2016 15:43:38 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) missed practice for the second consecutive day Thursday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers only just got out of his walking boot on Wednesday, so it's looking pretty likely that the former Atlanta Falcon will have to miss another game this weekend. With Doug Martin trending towards a return, owners can fire him back up immediately, and Rodgers' anticipated absence means Peyton Barber should maintain at least a little bit of value, though he's more suited for the deepest of leagues in this role.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers sheds boot

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 21:28:09 -0800

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) was out of his walking boot Wednesday, Nov. 9, but he did not practice. Beat writer Greg Auman believes Rodgers is unlikely to play in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Doug Martin is making progress, and Peyton Barber looked decent last week. If Rodgers doesn't return soon, he is likely to see a very small piece of the pie in the Tampa backfield and much lower fantasy appeal.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers sits out

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 16:03:53 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Rodgers may not be able to play this week because of his foot injury. Owners should check on his status later in the week but probably can avoid him even if he plays.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers unlikely to go Week 10

Tue, 08 Nov 2016 09:45:49 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) is still in a walking boot and appears to be a "longshot" to suit up against the Chicago Bears in Week 10, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers hasn't practiced since suffering the injury in Week 8 and appears likely to join Doug Martin (hamstring), Charles Sims (knee) and Antone Smith (knee) on the sideline this weekend. Peyton Barber will likely get the start barring the unexpected and should be considered a midrange flex option, while Mike James would likely serve as his backup.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers still in walking boot

Mon, 07 Nov 2016 09:27:01 -0800

Updating a previous story, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) did not practice Monday, Nov. 7, and is still wearing a walking boot eight days after suffering a foot sprain during a Week 8 loss to the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers obviously isn't off to a good start in regards to playing Week 10 versus the Chicago Bears, so owners may need to be prepared for another week of Peyton Barber since it appears Doug Martin (hamstring) still isn't ready to return. Regardless of which player gets the nod, Rodgers and Barber should be considered RB2 options this week.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers sits out

Mon, 07 Nov 2016 07:55:29 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) was out of practice Monday, Nov. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers was pretty solid before missing Week 9 with the injury. If he's able to make it back, and Doug Martin (hamstring) can't, Rodgers would be a flex consideration against the Chicago Bears.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers ruled out

Wed, 02 Nov 2016 12:15:09 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 2, and has been ruled out for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Antone Smith or Peyton Barber will receive most of the work at running back, but Smith did receive more playing time than Barber last week. Smith is probably the safer option between the two and can be a flex option in some leagues but does come with some risk since his role is not known.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers still sitting

Tue, 01 Nov 2016 11:52:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) did not practice Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Fantasy Tip: It's looking pretty unlikely that Rodgers will be taking the field Thursday night. Doug Martin probably won't play, so Peyton Barber may be given the starting duties. The Atlanta Falcons have been worse than average against the run this year, too, so Barber would have sleeper appeal, especially in daily contests.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers does not practice

Mon, 31 Oct 2016 16:58:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) was not part of practice Monday, Oct. 31. He is dealing with a foot sprain. Rodgers' status is an estimation as the Buccaneers did not practice.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers is looking pretty iffy for Week 9 since the Buccaneers play Thursday night. If he and Doug Martin are both sidelined then Peyton Barber would make for a sneaky add and start, especially for those who own Martin and/or Rodgers.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers has foot sprain

Mon, 31 Oct 2016 12:16:26 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) was spotted in a walking boot after being diagnosed with a sprained left foot Monday, Oct. 31.

Fantasy Tip: No immediate timetable was given, but it is safe to say the odds are extremely high he will sit out Thursday night's game with the Atlanta Falcons to begin Week 9. Antone Smith, Peyton Barber and recently re-signed Mike James are expected to form a committee in his absence, with Smith the best bet of the three to lead the backfield in touches. Owners can gamble on Smith if they are desperate at running back this week, but he's a low-end flex option with a low floor.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers suffers ankle injury

Mon, 31 Oct 2016 09:06:21 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (ankle) is awaiting news on the foot he injured late in a Week 8 loss to the Oakland Raiders. "I don't think it's probably good. But I don't know for sure. It's something to do with his ankle," head coach Dirk Koetter told reporters Monday.

Fantasy Tip: The only positive that can be taken from Koetter's statement is that he admitted he didn't "know for sure", but owners should plan on being without him as Tampa Bay plays again on Thursday. Antone Smith out-snapped presumed backup Peyton Barber 22-3 versus the Raiders and should be considered the next man up for Tampa Bay.

Buccaneers | So-so day for Jacquizz Rodgers

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 16:28:19 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers rushed 19 times for 69 yards and a touchdown in the Week 8 game against the Oakland Raiders, and he added one reception for nine yards.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't a terrible day for Rodgers, but he was unable to post his third straight 100-yard game in place of the injured Doug Martin. As long as Rodgers continues to start he is a solid RB2 in most fantasy leagues, and it's uncertain if Martin will be able to return in Week 9 considering the team has a short week before hosting the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers has career afternoon

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 20:35:40 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers carried 26 times for a career-high 154 yards in the Week 7 game against the San Francisco 49ers. He also had one reception for nine yards, and had 97 yards after contact, third-best in the NFL this season. "I've been waiting on this moment so my job is to take advantage of it," Rodgers said Sunday, Oct. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers filled in admirably with Doug Martin and Charles Sims on the shelf due to injury. He faced the league's worst-ranked rush defense, and he came up big. He has back-to-back 100-yard games after having never accomplished the feat in his first five NFL seasons. Rodgers is worth a look as an RB3 in all fantasy leagues.

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay believes in Jacquizz Rodgers

Sat, 22 Oct 2016 19:39:20 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers has the trust of head coach Dirk Koetter, and Koetter said he plans to "feed the stud" if he is hot.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers had 30 carries in Week 6, and it sounds like Koetter is prepared to give him a big workload again. He is RB2 candidate in Week 7 against a porous San Francisco run defense.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers has juicy matchup

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 20:12:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers is expected to start in Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers, the league's 32nd-ranked rush defense. RB Doug Martin (hamstring) had a setback, and RB Charles Sims (knee) was placed on Reserve/Injured last week.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers is worth a roll of the dice as a low-end RB2 in most fantasy leagues considering how bad the 49ers have been against the run. They have allowed 174.5 yards per game with nine rushing touchdowns. The next nearest team in rush defense, the Miami Dolphins, rank 31st allowing 147.0 yards per game.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers shines in victory

Mon, 10 Oct 2016 21:41:40 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers rushed 30 times for 101 yards in the Week 5 game against the Carolina Panthers Monday, Oct. 10. He also had five receptions for 28 yards on six targets.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers wasn't even in the team's plans heading into Week 1, but he stepped up with Doug Martin and Charles Sims sidelined. The team has a bye in Week 6 to get back to health, so Rodgers' fantasy outlook is rather murky. If he gets another chance to start, however, he is worth a look as an RB2 in most formats, especially PPR leagues.

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay confident in Jacquizz Rodgers

Sat, 08 Oct 2016 11:06:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers has the confidence of head coach Dirk Koetter to handle a significant number of snaps in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers. "Extremely (confident). I've seen him do it. Jacquizz will have no problems. He'll do fine," Koetter said.

Fantasy Tip: Koetter has to be confident in Rodgers in part because he is running out of options. Doug Martin and Charles Sims are very unlikely to play, leaving Rodgers, undrafted rookie free agent Peyton Barber and fullback Alan Cross as the only options to carry the ball Monday night. The well-traveled veteran is a low-end flex option this week.

Buccaneers | Jacquizz Rodgers could run more

Tue, 04 Oct 2016 06:50:53 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers could see more carries inside the tackles in Week 5 after RB Charles Sims struggled the past two weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers has a tough Carolina Panthers draw this week, and he's not expected to see enough work to be more than a wild-card flex play.

Buccaneers | Charles Sims set for big workload?

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 20:01:56 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers said he only expects to play when RB Charles Sims needs a breather.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Sims will see plenty of touches against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, and he is a RB2 candidate, especially in PPR formats.

Bears | Jacquizz Rodgers released by Chicago

Sat, 03 Sep 2016 14:28:35 -0700

Chicago Bears RB Jacquizz Rodgers was released Saturday, Sept. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers was reportedly in the running for third-down duties in Chicago, but Jeremy Langford showed enough improvement in the passing game during the preseason to make Rodgers expendable. He should resurface on another roster in the near future but is not worth a look in fantasy.

Bears | Hot RB will be leaned on in Chicago

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 07:39:50 -0700

Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford, RB Ka'Deem Carey, RB Jordan Howard and RB Jacquizz Rodgers will be part of a committee in the backfield, and head coach John Fox plans to limit their workloads and ride the hot hand. The team wants Langford to run with a wider base and gain more yards after contact. Carey needs to build on his toughness and become a more complete back. Both figure to be part of the committee approach. Howard adds a bruiser skill set in short-yardage and goal line situations.

Fantasy Tip: The reporter scribed that it "promises to be hell for fantasy football owners." Langford figures to be the leader of the pack, but he's not someone you can depend on week to week unless he takes off from the gate. He's a high-end RB3 in fantasy that could be maligned to good matchups for a flex play. Carey and Howard are RB5 projects that you can grab in hopes that they become said hot hand. Rodgers has a ways to go before he's an intriguing chip in fantasy with three backs possibly ahead of him.

Bears | Chicago to use committee backfield

Fri, 20 May 2016 11:23:24 -0700

Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford will battle with RBs Jordan Howard, Ka'Deem Carey and Jacquizz Rodgers for touches in a crowded backfield during offseason workouts. Head coach John Fox is intent on running with a committee approach after the departure of RB Matt Forte. Langford has a leg up after scoring seven touchdowns in his rookie season. However, he had only 3.6 yards per carry and 1.13 yards after contact, which ranked second to last out of 47 players with 100 carries, according to ESPN Stats and Information. Langford must also work on improving his hands after struggling with drops in 2015. Howard's bruising style appeals to the team as a complement to Langford's speed. Carey is the only back that wasn't acquired by the current coaching staff, and he's being pushed to become more versatile and to play better on third downs. Rodgers it the veteran and could be trusted more than any other rusher on third downs early in the year.

Fantasy Tip: This makes things a little frustrating for fantasy owners, and it could be a fluid situation in terms of touches, at least early in the year. Langford has the leg up and should be the first back of this group drafted in fantasy leagues. He has more appeal in PPR formats as an RB3. Howard is a wildcard that could vulture touchdowns from Langford and is an RB5 flyer in standard-scoring leagues. Carey and Rodgers would likely need an injury to see significant touches and are mainly handcuffs.

Bears | Jacquizz Rodgers re-signs with Bears

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 14:14:13 -0800

Free-agent RB Jacquizz Rodgers (Bears) is re-signing to an undisclosed deal with the Chicago Bears Wednesday, March 9.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Forte may be gone, but Jeremy Langford and KaDeem Carey should still be ahead of Rodgers in Chicago's backfield. Plus, the Bears could still add another running back. Rodgers has minimal fantasy value in his current situation, but he does provide a little bit of a fantasy pulse in PPR leagues.

Falcons | More reps for Devonta Freeman, Jacquizz Rodgers

Fri, 26 Dec 2014 14:08:13 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RBs Devonta Freeman and Jacquizz Rodgers are expected to see more repetitions in Week 17 against the Carolina Panthers with RB Steven Jackson (quadriceps) unlikely to play. However, head coach Mike Smith hasn't officially ruled Jackson out yet. The team is anxious, though, to see how Freeman will perform with more touches. RB Jerome Smith, who was promoted from the practice squad this week, will be active against the Panthers.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman should be your initial play in standard leagues if you're picking between he and Rodgers. Against the Panthers, Freeman could be a very nice FantasyScore play after replacing S-Jax last week and running for a TD.

Falcons | Want power ground game

Tue, 26 Aug 2014 19:30:41 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers was stopped on a fourth-and-1 run during the team's third preseason game, and heading into the preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 28, head coach Mike Smith said he wants to emphasize being able to run the ball effectively in obvious running situations.

Fantasy Tip: If Smith sticks to that plan during the year, it could lead to more chances for Steven Jackson around the goal line. Jackson is a risky pick because of all his recent injury issues, but if healthy, he will have a big role in the offense and RB2 upside. Consider scooping him up as a third running back if the injury concerns cause him to slide in your draft.

Falcons | Steven Jackson has hammy issue

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 15:16:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) injured his hamstring Monday, July 28, which is why he wasn't practicing Tuesday, July 29. Head coach Mike Smith said Jackson will be ready for the team's first game.

Fantasy Tip: This is not what you want to see from an aging running back entering his age-31 season. Jacquizz Rodgers and Devonta Freeman could have heavy workloads if S-Jax continues to be bugged by nagging injuries all year long.

Falcons | Mike Smith believes in Steven Jackson

Fri, 28 Mar 2014 11:08:57 -0700

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith is optimistic that RB Steven Jackson will bounce back from a disappointing 2013 season in which he played in only 12 games due to a hamstring injury and averaged a career-low 3.5 yards per carry. Jackson finished the year with six touchdowns in the final six games, however. Atlanta uses a committee at running back with Jackson and RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson has always been injury-prone, and now that he's on the wrong side of 30, that'll become more of an issue. More usage of Rodgers and Smith would be wise if the Falcons want to keep S-Jax healthy over the full season. His numbers from last year should be what you should expect moving forward, especially in a committee backfield.

Falcons | Jacquizz Rodgers to make more money in 2014
