Patriots | No brace for Dion Lewis

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 11:51:37 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) practiced Monday, June 13, without a brace on his left knee. Lewis said he feels better every day but that he still has a long way to go in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis was a PPR monster before suffering the injury last year. If he can return to full health then he'll be worth a look as a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 in PPR leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis back at practice

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 09:34:45 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) is back at practice for the first time Monday, June 13. Lewis is recovering from November surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis will likely be overvalued in drafts this fall because he's essentially New England's No. 1 running back. But keep in mind he probably won't be 100% by the time Week 1 kicks off, and he had just 234 rushing yards on 49 carries for two touchdowns in his first season with the Pats. Lewis is surely more valuable in PPR formats (36 catches for 388 yards), but be careful not to reach for him given his injury and the uncertainty that allows accompanies a New England backfield.

Patriots | Dion Lewis says rehab going well

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 08:07:45 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) said the rehab from his torn anterior cruciate ligament is going well and that he is doing what the trainers are allowing him to do. Lewis has not participated in offseason workouts and probably will miss the upcoming minicamp as well.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis may be limited during training camp but it is believed that should be ready for the start of the regular season. He should receive solid playing time in 2016 and will be used as a receiver out of the backfield. Lewis should be selected in all drafts but will have more value in point-per-reception leagues.

Patriots | Key Patriots absent Thursday

Thu, 26 May 2016 15:17:29 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot), RB LeGarrette Blount (knee), RB Dion Lewis (knee), WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) and TE Rob Gronkowski (undisclosed) did not participate in organized team activities Thursday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots are infamous for their vague injury reports and resting of players. Obviously they're going to take caution with the players listed above, though. As long as none of these guys suffer any setbacks this offseason, they should be good to go for the start of the regular season. Edelman and Gronk should both be viewed as fantasy starters at their respective positions, with more value in PPR formats. Lewis is an RB2 candidate in PPR formats if he can stay healthy, while Blount has RB3 potential if he, too, can keep his health. Amendola is the biggest injury risk; he shouldn't be viewed as more than a low-end WR4 to high-end WR5.

Patriots | Dion Lewis optimistic for Week 1

Tue, 24 May 2016 08:30:41 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) has given signs of optimism for being ready for the start of the season. Some close to Lewis feel that he's about a month away from being able to play in a game. The team plans to be conservative with him, and his repetitions in organized team activities will be limited at best.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis emerged as a PPR gem before going down with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. However, he only rushed 10 times in a game once last season. So don't overvalue him. He's a solid RB3 if he doesn't have any setbacks.

Patriots | Dion Lewis recovering well

Sun, 21 Feb 2016 12:16:13 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis' (knee) recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament has impressed well-known surgeon Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery on Lewis late last year. When Lewis visited Andrews in January, things were exactly where they should be, if not better. Lewis will gradually work his way back this offseason, but the Patriots anticipate him being ready for the start of the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis took the NFL by storm last season before suffering the torn ACL. He was a No. 1 fantasy running back, too, averaging 17.5 fantasy points per game through seven games in PPR leagues. The Patriots' backfield will likely look a little different next season, but Lewis is still worth a shot as at least a RB2 if he's at full health.

Patriots | New England likely to add at RB

Mon, 25 Jan 2016 21:06:41 -0800

New England Patriots RB James White played 57 of the 83 offensive snaps in the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 24, and RB Brandon Bolden played 16. RB Steven Jackson rounded things out with 11 snaps. The team will also get RB Dion Lewis (knee) back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in 2016, while RB LeGarrette Blount is an impending free agent. The team might face an offseason similar to 2011 when the selected a pair of backs in the NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis has the potential to be the top running back with this current group, with White and Bolden as solid backups. However, look for a rookie, and possibly a veteran running back, to be added in the offseason to provide competition.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount staying with Patriots?

Mon, 25 Jan 2016 13:50:08 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount could be on his way out of New England as he enters free agency this offseason. RB Dion Lewis (knee) will return from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and RB James White filled in nicely for Lewis. The Patriots also have another big back on their roster in RB Steven Jackson, putting Blount's future with New England in limbo.

Fantasy Tip: Gone are the days of Blount rushing for hundreds of yards and multiple touchdowns. The Patriots do need a ground-and-pound type of running back, but Blount may not be the answer for the future. This situation will play out over the course of the next few months, but Blount may be heading for fantasy irrelevancy.

Patriots | Dion Lewis placed on IR

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 14:35:17 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Nov. 9. Lewis is out for the year with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: James White and Brandon Bolden will be in line to take over Lewis's playing time as the Patriots' passing-down back. It's hard to tell right now who will be used more than the other, but both are worth a pickup if they're available in seasonal leagues.

Patriots | James White to replace Dion Lewis?

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 13:48:36 -0800

New England Patriots RB James White is the top candidate to replace RB Dion Lewis (knee) as the Patriots' passing down running back, according to ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss. RB Brandon Bolden will also be in the mix, and played well replacing Lewis in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Both White and Bolden are worth a waiver wire pickup if they're available. Bolden seems like the guy to own after yesterday, but White played as Lewis's successor two weeks ago when Lewis was sidelined. It may not be known who exactly will be the main successor to Lewis until the Patriots play their next game.
