Titans | Derrick Henry should lead backfield

Thu, 12 Jul 2018 10:07:48 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry is expected to serve as the lead running back in 2018. He will split time with RB Dion Lewis, but Henry has been working to improve his receiving and pass protection in order to stay on the field more.

Fantasy Tip: Henry may be the "lead" back, but a 50-50 split in touches between him and Lewis isn't out of the question at all. They already comprise one of the most formidable running back duos in the NFL and should both be regarded as an RB2, although Lewis does have more appeal in PPR leagues.

Titans | Derrick Henry to lead team in carries?

Thu, 05 Jul 2018 18:46:46 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry could lead the team in rushing attempts and rushing yards this year, according to Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com, but McCormick said it "isn't out of the question" that RB Dion Lewis finishes with more total yards.

Fantasy Tip: Even with the addition of Lewis, Henry should be headed for a career year. He should have no problem delivering low-end RB2 production, and Lewis should deliver similar value, especially in PPR formats.

Titans | Dion Lewis could lead backfield in yards

Thu, 05 Jul 2018 18:38:32 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis could end up with more all-purpose yards than RB Derrick Henry this season because of Lewis' ability as a receiver, in the opinion of Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis and Henry are going to cap the fantasy ceilings of one another, but both have RB2 potential with Lewis being the preferred option in PPR formats.

Titans | Derrick Henry, Dion Lewis viewed equally

Tue, 05 Jun 2018 11:50:06 -0700

Tennessee Titans RBs Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis are considered 1a and 1b in the eyes of offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur.

Fantasy Tip: Henry and Lewis are tremendous complements to each other. Henry is a bruiser and Lewis is a more agile and shifty back. The latter can hold his own as a runner despite his smaller stature and brings better value to the fantasy table. Both Henry and Lewis are in the RB2 conversation with Lewis having more PPR value.

Titans | Dion Lewis expects to be involved

Fri, 13 Apr 2018 18:38:50 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis said both he and RB Derrick Henry will be used in the running game. "Derrick's a great back and I'm happy to be a part of the backfield with him, so I think we can form a pretty good one-two punch," Lewis said.

Fantasy Tip: Henry is expected to take on more of the lead role this year, but Lewis should receive some carries of his own and see a lot of action on passing downs.

Titans | Dion Lewis headed for Tennessee

Tue, 13 Mar 2018 18:23:47 -0700

Free-agent RB Dion Lewis (Patriots) intends to sign a four-year deal with the Tennessee Titans, sources said Tuesday, March 13.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis will join the backfield with Derrick Henry, essentially replacing DeMarco Murray. Really, Lewis will be the change-of-pace back as Henry takes over as more of the workhorse. Still, it's a nice situation for Lewis, and he'll be a nice option catching balls out of the backfield for Marcus Mariota, who clearly needs more versatile weapons.

Dolphins | Miami a suitor for Dion Lewis

Tue, 13 Mar 2018 11:10:31 -0700

Free-agent RB Dion Lewis (Patriots) can add the Miami Dolphins to the list of teams interested in his services, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Kenyan Drake played well for the Dolphins late last year, but Damien Williams is a free agent and Miami is looking for more depth at the position. Lewis and Drake would undoubtedly cut into each other's fantasy value, but let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Colts | Indianapolis on Dion Lewis' radar

Mon, 12 Mar 2018 10:39:15 -0700

The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly "in" on New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Dion Lewis, according to NBC Sports Boston's Michael Giardi.

Fantasy Tip: The Colts are expected to be one of several teams chasing Lewis, who should be able to find a better fit somewhere else. Lewis is somewhat similar to Marlon Mack, and Indianapolis still has much work to do along the offensive line if he hopes to achieve the same kind of success he enjoyed when healthy in New England. With the Colts, Lewis would likely top out as a flex option, at least in 2018.

Patriots | Multiple suitors expected for Dion Lewis

Sun, 11 Mar 2018 14:06:00 -0700

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Dion Lewis is expected to receive interest from the New York Jets, Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts in free agency this week, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, who also mentions the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders as potential suitors.

Fantasy Tip: Of the bunch, the Titans and Buccaneers make the most sense from a need standpoint. Even though Derrick Henry does not have bad hands, Tennessee may want to keep him in an early-down role. Tampa Bay has very little certainty at the position, so Lewis could carve out a lead-back role there. In either location, Lewis should be able to maintain low-end RB2 value in PPR leagues.

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Dion Lewis is a player that the Patriots would like to re-sign this offseason, but Lewis is expected to receive interest from multiple teams in free agency, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots have about two weeks to talk with Lewis before he hits the free-agent market. Lewis has a solid chance to start wherever he signs this offseason and can be a No. 2 fantasy running back in most leagues.

Thu, 01 Mar 2018 17:49:56 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Dion Lewis is expected to receive interest from multiple teams this offseason, according to a source. The New York Jets, Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders and Indianapolis Colts are among the team that may pursue Lewis.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis should be able to find a starting job with a team in free agency after his terrific 2017 season. He can be a No. 2 fantasy running back in most leagues next season.

Patriots | Dion Lewis would like to return

Tue, 27 Feb 2018 14:32:49 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Dion Lewis said he hopes to re-sign with the Patriots this offseason but will do what is best for him and his family.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis played very well as the starting running back for the Patriots this season but may have to find a new team in free agency. He should have a big role no matter where he plays in 2018 and can be a No. 2 fantasy running back in most leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis was hard to corral in 2017

Mon, 19 Feb 2018 20:33:10 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis ranked second in the NFL - among players who recorded at least 175 carries - with 4.44 yards gained after defenders closed within one yard of him in 2017, according to Next Gen Stats.

Fantasy Tip: The impending free agent took on a heavy workload down the stretch once Mike Gillislee landed in the doghouse and Rex Burkhead got hurt, proving himself as a very capable every-down back. The Patriots surprisingly chose to back off of Lewis and give more work to James White down the stretch, but the former isn't going to lack for suitors on the open market if he makes it there. Almost regardless of where he lands, he should be a solid RB2 for fantasy purposes.

Lions | Dion Lewis of interest to Lions?

Tue, 13 Feb 2018 11:27:48 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Dion Lewis may be pursued by the Detroit Lions if he does enter free agency, according to The Boston Globe's Ben Volin.

Fantasy Tip: Ameer Abdullah hasn't been getting it done in Detroit and Theo Riddick is primarily used as a pass-catcher. The Lions need someone else to pick up the slack in the backfield. Lewis is coming off a pleasantly surprising year and obviously has a connection with current Lions head coach Matt Patricia, the former defensive coordinator of the Patriots. He would be sharing time with the aforementioned Abdullah and Riddick, but Lewis would stand to be Detroit's biggest running threat if this move were to come to fruition.

Patriots | Dion Lewis on the way out?

Sat, 10 Feb 2018 18:52:01 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Dion Lewis plans to test the market unless he is offered around $10 million guaranteed as part of a three-year deal, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, and Howe said the "early vibe" is that Lewis won't be back with the Patriots in 2018.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis has had issues staying healthy, and it remains to be seen if he can be productive outside of New England's system. He'll be worth rostering in 2018, but his value could vary wildly depending on where he ends up.

Patriots | Free agency decisions ahead for New England

Mon, 05 Feb 2018 10:55:13 -0800

The New England Patriots face the prospect of losing several key free agents. The Patriots have to address key impending free agents in OTs Nate Solder, Cameron Fleming and LaAdrian Waddle, along with RB Rex Burkhead, WR Danny Amendola, CB Malcolm Butler, WR/ST Matthew Slater and RB Dion Lewis. New England is projected to have approximately $17 million in salary cap space. TE Dwayne Allen, TE Martellus Bennett, DT Alan Branch, LB David Harris and RB Mike Gillislee all could be released to create more cap space.

Sun, 21 Jan 2018 17:10:42 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis ran nine times for 34 yards in the AFC Championship Game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and he tacked on seven receptions for 32 yards on eight targets.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis led the way with 16 total touches and 66 yards, although he also had a lost fumble. He'll be the back of choice in the Super Bowl in Minneapolis in two weeks, too. He finished the regular season with 896 yards and six rushing touchdowns.

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis rushed 15 times for 62 yards and caught nine passes for 79 yards in a 35-14 win over the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Jan. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis' recent momentum carried into the playoffs, and he needs to be considered a RB1 if you are playing playoff fantasy football of any type.

Patriots | Dion Lewis receives a lot of snaps

Mon, 25 Dec 2017 13:29:40 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis played a season-high 51 snaps against the Buffalo Bills in Week 15. His previous season high was 33 snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis received most of the playing time because Rex Burkhead and James White were out with injuries. He could receive a similar workload next week and should be at least a No. 2 running back in most leagues.

Sun, 24 Dec 2017 18:47:45 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis rushes 24 times for a career-high 129 yards and a touchdown in Week 16 against the Buffalo Bills. He added five grabs for 24 yards and a score, too.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis picked a great time for his second-career 100-yard rushing performance. Fantasy owners who scooped him up off the waiver wire likely rode him to a trophy or a sack of money.

Patriots | Dion Lewis steps in and does well

Sun, 17 Dec 2017 20:39:13 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis posted 67 rushing yards with a touchdown on 13 carries in Week 15 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis was leaned upon heavily after Rex Burkhead (knee) checked out in the second quarter. If Burkhead misses time, Lewis could be a valuable contributor in fantasy leagues heading into Week 16. Mike Gillislee might also re-surface in the backfield.

Patriots | Lackluster showing from Dion Lewis on MNF

Mon, 11 Dec 2017 22:08:37 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis finished with 17 rushing yards on five carries in the team's Week 14 loss Monday, Dec. 11, against the Miami Dolphins. He also added five catches for 50 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Well, luckily, Lewis was able to give a little something in the passing game, but other than that, this was a gigantic step back for the 27-year-old, who was really coming into his own as of late. In fact, he had plated 204 yards collectively over the prior two contests. Despite this outing, Lewis is still a fine RB2 option, drawing double-digit rush attempts on most weeks while still being active through the air.

Patriots | Dion Lewis active for Week 14

Mon, 11 Dec 2017 16:34:21 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (illness) is officially active for the team's Week 14 game.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis has led the team in rushing each of the last two games and should receive most of the carries against the Miami Dolphins. He can be a solid starting option in all fantasy leagues.

Sat, 09 Dec 2017 13:38:30 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (illness) was limited during practice Saturday, Dec. 9, and is listed as questionable for Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis has been the team's leading rusher in each of the last two games and should continue to receive most of the carries if he plays in Week 14. He can be a No. 2 running back or flex option in fantasy leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis misses practice

Fri, 08 Dec 2017 14:37:35 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (illness) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis likely will be able to play in Week 14 if he can recover from his illness. He has rushed for at least 92 yards in each of the last two games and should continue a solid amount of carries during games. He can be a No. 2 running back or a flex option in leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis has prime matchup

Thu, 30 Nov 2017 07:25:34 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis will face the Buffalo Bills in Week 13, and they've allowed the most points per game to running backs the last five weeks.

Fantasy Tip: The Bills have been so bad against backs, they're allowing 5.0 yards per rush and two rushing scores per game. They've allowed six points more per game than any other team during the stretch. Lewis is coming off his best game in two years, and there could be plenty of garbage time to rack up yards. Lewis is a good RB2 this week in fantasy.

Patriots | Dion Lewis runs for 112 yards

Sun, 26 Nov 2017 17:03:14 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis rushed 15 times for 112 yards in Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis also tacked on a catch for one yard on his two targets. He posted at least 11 touches for the sixth consecutive game, as he remains a solid RB3 or flex fantasy option in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 13.

Patriots | Dion Lewis leads the charge

Mon, 13 Nov 2017 05:08:44 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis rushed 14 times for 55 yards and a touchdown in the Week 10 win over the Denver Broncos. He also returned a kickoff 103 yards for a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: He has averaged a little more than 13 rushes per game over the last four games and clearly looks to be the lead dog in the rushing attack. He'll be an inconsistent play because if he doesn't get in the end zone, he probably won't have enough rushing or receiving numbers to be a big factor. He's a decent flex option against the Oakland Raiders next week.

Patriots | Dion Lewis won't be traded

Mon, 30 Oct 2017 13:15:39 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis has received trade interest from several undisclosed teams, but he is not expected to be traded, according to NFL Network's Michael Lombardi.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots do have what appears to be a surplus of running backs with Lewis, Mike Gillislee, James White and Rex Burkhead. Apparently they want to keep their committee intact. Lewis has been running well of late which makes it harder for the Pats to part ways. White remains New England's best fantasy back regardless of who's traded or not, but Lewis deserves flex consideration.

Patriots | Dion Lewis logs 15 carries

Sun, 29 Oct 2017 18:49:18 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis had a team-high 15 carries for 44 yards and two catches for 10 yards in a 21-13 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis has been seeing the bulk of the carries in recent weeks, but this was his least efficient outing. Lewis has been seeing enough work to be used as a flex play, but just keep in mind that the roles in New England's backfield can change on a whim.

Patriots | Dion Lewis leads rushing attack

Mon, 23 Oct 2017 04:39:52 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis had 76 yards on 13 carries in a week 7 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Fantasy Tip: Ordinarily that would be great, but in New England's offense it could get you a bench spot next week. This is not a knock on Lewis, it's just a reminder that New England could turn to Rex Burkhead or James White the following week and make Lewis owners mad. It's best to avoid the committee altogether.

Patriots | Dion Lewis' usage trending up

Thu, 19 Oct 2017 19:23:48 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis has rushed 18 times for 105 yards in the last two games after rushing a combined 12 times for 46 yards in the first four games.

Fantasy Tip: While the trend is encouraging, the Patriots are notoriously fickle with how they distribute carries. Lewis is a desperation flex play against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7.

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 13:28:36 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis rushed for 52 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries against the New York Jets in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis received a season-high 11 carries during the game and rushed for his second touchdown in the last three games. His role changes each week, but Lewis can be considered a flex option in most fantasy leagues.

Patriots | New England receiving calls on Dion Lewis

Sat, 09 Sep 2017 08:02:59 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis has been the focal point of trade conversations with multiple teams since the offseason, according to the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe, who reports some of the discussions occurred as recently as the past week.

Fantasy Tip: Howe notes it has been other teams pursuing Lewis and not the Patriots making the calls. Regardless, he was limited to six snaps in the opener and appears to be playing behind Mike Gillislee, James White and Rex Burkhead. Furthermore, D.J. Foster is collecting a $15,000 check on the practice squad, which is more than twice the minimum for practice squad players. Although he has been injury-prone throughout his career, Lewis is a dynamic back who could be a fantasy RB2 in the right situation.

Patriots | James White saw bulk of snaps Thursday

Fri, 08 Sep 2017 09:37:28 -0700

New England Patriots RB James White played in 43 of 81 offensive snaps in a Week 1 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Sept. 7. Mike Gillislee finished second on the team with 24, Rex Burkhead had 10 and Dion Lewis tallied six.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots' committee backfield remained very much intact in the opener, although Gillislee certainly appears to have the edge at the goal line, as expected. Burkhead got the start, but it was White who saw the most playing time - primarily as when the Patriots used tempo. For now, Gillislee has the look of a volatile RB3/flex option who will pile up short-yardage scores when given the opportunity, while White is also a flex play in PPR. The other two backs are complete dart throws at the moment.

Patriots | No depth chart at RB in New England

Tue, 22 Aug 2017 09:26:05 -0700

New England Patriots RBs Mike Gillislee, Rex Burkhead, James White and Dion Lewis form a "deep, talented group" and any one of the four could be featured at any given time, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee, who was expected to be the early-down and goal-line back in New England this year, has missed the last two weeks with a hamstring injury, giving Burkhead time to shine. White is locked into a passing-game role, while Lewis figures to contribute in just about every way possible on offense and special teams. Owners may be able to hit big on occasion in this backfield on a weekly basis, but all of them will be hard to trust as anything more than flex options.

Patriots | James White, Dion Lewis co-starters

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 14:38:02 -0700

New England Patriots RBs James White and Dion Lewis are listed as co-starters on the Patriots' initial depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Take this one with a grain of salt, a sizable grain of salt. The Patriots backfield is stacked, but White and Lewis are both passing-down, change-of-pace backs. Mike Gillislee is expected to be the actual runner, particularly in goal-line and short-yardage situations.

Patriots | Dion Lewis, James White listed on first-team

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 11:20:21 -0700

New England Patriots RBs Dion Lewis and James White are ahead of Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee on the team's unofficial depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Unofficial depth charts in early August before even one preseason game has been played are usually pretty meaningless, but Gillislee on the third team is notable, even if he has been sidelined for approximately a week due to a hamstring injury. Lewis and White have been with the team longer than Burkhead, which likely explains why they "rank" higher. Burkhead is still the player to target here if Gillislee can't get healthy soon. White is a RB3 in PPR, while Lewis is worthy of a bench spot in fantasy.

Patriots | Dion Lewis could see limited snaps

Wed, 12 Jul 2017 14:59:12 -0700

The New England Patriots could consider limiting RB Dion Lewis' regular season snaps in order to keep him healthy for all 16 games, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis should be part of a committee at running back this season and probably will be used as a change of pace back. He was limited to 298 rushing yards and 94 receiving yards in 2016 because he only played in seven games. Owners in most leagues can consider Lewis a late-round option that could be used as a flex option against certain opponents.

Patriots | Dion Lewis' roster spot likely safe

Sun, 28 May 2017 08:08:36 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis still has a spot on the club despite the additions of Mike Gillislee and Rex Burkhead this offseason, likely as a kickoff returner and reserve running back who will play 15 to 20 snaps per game, per ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis showed off his trademark burst in OTAs per Reiss, who believes the team will "carefully manage" the injury-prone running back. James White is the favorite to remain the team's primary passing-down back, leaving Lewis' owners in a tough spot. Consider White a solid mid-round option in PPR leagues and Lewis more of a late-round gamble.

Patriots | Dion Lewis hurt his hamstring

Mon, 06 Feb 2017 05:21:38 -0800

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (hamstring) injured his hamstring late in Super Bowl LI. Lewis said the injury didn't seem severe.

Fantasy Tip: After James White's historic performance, it's worth pondering if he has leapfrogged Lewis. Both are comparable backs, but White is two years younger with less injury baggage. If Lewis lands elsewhere, he could be a decent RB2 in PPR leagues.

Sun, 05 Feb 2017 19:19:39 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) appeared to injure his knee against the Atlanta Falcons on the final play of regulation in Super Bowl LI Sunday, Feb. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis missed a good portion of the season while recovering from a knee injury, and a serious injury at this point would put at least a portion of his 2017 season in jeopardy. Stay tuned for updates.

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis has missed 14 games as a Patriot the last two seasons, but the Patriots are 16-0 in games in which Lewis has been active.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis has been dynamic for the Pats when he has played. The undefeated record with Lewis is no fluke. He and LeGarrette Blount proved to be a solid 1-2 punch for New England this season in the seven games Lewis was a part of. Look for the shifty running back to be utilized in space against the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl. Lewis will be a PPR sleeper if he remains healthy this offseason.

Patriots | Patriots are 16-0 when Dion Lewis plays

Mon, 30 Jan 2017 21:15:14 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis has never been part of losing effort since joining the club in 2015. In fact, in 16 total games, including the postseason, the Patriots are a perfect 16-0 when Lewis suits up.

Fantasy Tip: It's a pretty cool stat to think about, although it's probably more coincidental than anything else. Regardless, Lewis has shown he can be a huge factor in any given contest, and while his usage declined in the AFC Championship Game compared to New England's Divisional Round affair, it's still very possible he makes a considerable impact in what should likely be a high-scoring Super Bowl 51.

Patriots | Dion Lewis a non-factor

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 19:22:33 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis rushed six times for 11 yards and caught two passes for eight yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 22.

Fantasy Tip: After a three-touchdown effort a week ago, Lewis was barely part of the game plan. The Patriots have him under contract in 2017; he's a sound PPR target as a weekly flex consideration.
