Twins | Brian Dozier provides the offense

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 21:41:53 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs Tuesday, June 28, against the Chicago White Sox in a 4-0 win. He has hit safely in 10 consecutive games, and he has four home runs over the past three games.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier is hitting .439 (18-for-41) with 10 runs scored, five homers and 11 RBIs during his impressive 10-game run. He is an obvious must-start in all seasonal fantasy leagues and DFS play while running hot.

Twins | Brian Dozier embracing the cleanup spot

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 13:57:51 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier extended his hitting streak to nine games against the New York Yankees on Sunday, June 26, going 2-for-4 with a two-run shot for his second homer in as many days. Dozier, who moved into the fourth spot of the order on the same day (June 17) he started the hitting streak, is batting .405 (15-for-37) with three home runs and seven RBI over that span.

Fantasy Tip: On a team note, Dozier's blast was the only one of Minnesota's six homers that wasn't of the solo variety. On an individual note, the 2015 All-Star is hitting .344 with five home runs and 15 RBI in June after batting .202 with five homers and 17 RBI combined over his first two months. Since Dozier is performing like a top-five fantasy second baseman this month, he needs to be in all lineups.

Twins | Brian Dozier on eight-game hitting streak

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 13:02:03 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier provided his team's only offense on Saturday, June 25, lifting a fastball from New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda into the left-field stands for his ninth homer of the season - a solo shot.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier is 13-for-33 (.394) with three doubles, two triples and two home runs during his hitting streak, which has increased his average from .227 to .248, which would be a career-high mark for him. The 29-year-old is still well off the pace he set last year in homers (28), but owners will take this version of Dozier after he spent about half of April and May batting below the Mendoza line. He needs to be started in all leagues now until he cools off.

Twins | Brian Dozier continues red-hot June

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 23:09:26 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier put together his third consecutive multi-hit effort against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday, June 21, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Dozier is 7-for-13 with a home run, two triples, a steal and six runs scored over his last three games and is batting .342 in June.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier was awful in April and May, so most of his owners might still be a bit in shock that he's starting to resemble the player he was most of 2015, when he batted .236 with 28 homers and scored 101 runs. The Southern Mississippi product, who is 8-for-17 since moving into the cleanup spot four games ago, is going to need to keep this up if he hopes to reach those heights again this season, but at least he is worth starting in fantasy again.

Twins | Brian Dozier picking up the pace in June

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 14:47:21 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier finished 2-for-4 with his first triple of the season and scored twice against the New York Yankees on Saturday, June 18.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps there is some hope after all for Dozier, who is batting .313 this month after hitting .191 in April and .215 in May. Although he is not driven in a run since June 8, he could go on an RBI tear batting in front of on-base machines Eduardo Nunez and Joe Mauer. It's still too early to trust him in shallow leagues, but the fact he is starting to hit gives hope he can eventually live up to his early-round draft status. His power-speed combination can make him a fantasy difference-maker.

Twins | Joe Mauer out vs. lefty

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 14:27:55 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees left-handed SP CC Sabathia Thursday, June 16. As a result, SS Eduardo Escobar draws into the lineup at shortstop and is hitting sixth. SS Eduardo Nunez moves to third base and 3B Trevor Plouffe is serving as the designated hitter. Also, 2B Brian Dozier is hitting third in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer is in the midst of a resurgent season thanks mainly to increased plate patience. He's squaring up more balls at the plate and has become an asset in most seasonal leagues with a .285/.386/.417 slash line and seven homers and 26 RBI. Escobar has lost considerable playing time to Nunez this year and has very little fantasy value remaining. Dozier has had a down year but is more of a contrarian play this evening in the three-hole in daily setups.

Twins | Robbie Grossman in two-hole

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 14:11:28 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Robbie Grossman is hitting second against Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley Tuesday, June 7. 2B Brian Dozier has been dropped to fifth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if this is a one-game deal or something that will continue for the forseeable future. Grossman, a switch-hitter, has done well in limited at-bats in a starting role for Minnesota (.327-3-10 in 52 at-bats) and has fared better against lefties, so he's certainly a value consideration in DFS. Dozier has started to rebound after a poor start and has hits in all but one game this month. He'll have more chances to drive in runs if he hits near the middle of the order and is a fine under-the-radar DFS pick tonight.

Twins | Brian Dozier, Miguel Sano shake slumps

Thu, 26 May 2016 10:01:42 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier and OF Miguel Sano both broke out of power slumps with home runs Wednesday, May 25. Dozier struck out twice and lined out in his other at-bats, but manager Paul Molitor liked that Dozier wasn't trying to pull everything. Sano struck out his first time up and entered the game with a league-high 66 strikeouts. Molitor sees Sano getting through his funk at the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier's low batting average on balls in play (.217) suggests more hits and home runs are in his future. After all, he did club 28 long balls a season ago. If the Dozier owner in your league is frustrated, take a gander at buying low. With Sano, you get what you see; tons of elite power potential as a 30-homer candidate but also a lot of swings and misses. He'll kill your average but aid you in power.

Twins | Brian Dozier returns

Wed, 25 May 2016 08:54:19 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier returned to the lineup Wednesday, May 25, and he's hitting second. 3B Trevor Plouffe is out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier is struggling with a .211-1-4 line this month. Dillon Gee has a decent 2.90 ERA, but he doesn't strike much fear in the matchup. However, Dozier's struggles put him in a wait-and-see approach in DFS.

Twins | Brian Dozier looking for answers

Tue, 24 May 2016 15:23:27 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier hasn't hit a home run at home this year and hasn't done so since Aug. 15 of last year, a span of 149 at-bats. He's hitting .188 with a .262 on-base percentage in 37 games at Target Field in that span. The Twins are trying to fix Dozier, and despite the fact he has two minor league options left, Minnesota doesn't seem interested in sending him down. Dozier hit several balls hard over the weekend but wasn't rewarded, and his batting average on balls in play dropped to a career-worst .218. His strikeout rate is 16.5%, which is well below his career mark of 19%, and he's swinging at 29.3% of pitches outside the zone. Dozier and the Twins insist his right hamstring isn't the cause of his problems.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier's low BABIP suggests he's in line for positive regression, and home runs are surely to follow. This would be a good time to approach a Dozier owner about buying low, as this could be rock bottom for him in 2016. It's not out of the question to drop him in shallow leagues if he continues to lose playing time to Eduardo Nunez. Everywhere else you should stay patient and bench him for better options.
