Packers | Packers, Randall Cobb to part?

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 19:27:15 -0800

The Green Bay Packers are working to re-sign impending free-agent WR Randall Cobb, and have exclusive negotiating rights until Saturday, March 7, at 3pm, and exclusive signing rights until Tuesday, March 10. The team has been working to hammer out a deal with Cobb for six months. With WRs Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams under contract, the team did not feel the need to use a franchise tag on Cobb like the Dallas Cowboys did with WR Dez Bryant, and the Denver Broncos did with WR Demaryius Thomas. According to sources, the team said they would sign Cobb to a five-year deal averaging $8-9 million per season, and his agent said he feels confident they can get more on the open market.

Fantasy Tip: All signs point to Cobb playing for another team in 2015, but it is possible the Packers could get him back into the fold if the offers aren't as lucrative as Cobb's agent expects. Either way, Cobb will be a top-flight fantasy option again next season.

Chiefs | KC might take run at Randall Cobb

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 19:24:47 -0800

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to make a run at Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Randall Cobb should he hit the open market.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs are in desperate need of a playmaker at wide receiver, something they have sorely lacked over the past couple of seasons. Alex Smith would thank them a thousand times over for a player of Cobb's caliber, although fantasy owners might not be as keen on Smith tossing balls to Cobb rather than Aaron Rodgers.

Jaguars | Randall Cobb likely to be courted by Jags

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 07:31:40 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Randall Cobb is expected to be aggressively pursued by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cobb's agent Jimmy Sexton also represents Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley, and the team has $69.3 million to spend.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb would likely take a step back from his 91-1,287-12 feast in 2014 on a rebuilding team. He'd make a high-end WR2 without much upside in Jacksonville.

Raiders | Randall Cobb could see Raiders' attention

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 07:30:43 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Randall Cobb is expected to be aggressively pursued by the Oakland Raiders, according to sources. The Raiders have $56.6 million to spend, and Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie helped draft him four years ago.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb is unlikely to repeat his 91-1,287-12 monster 2014 if he lands on a rebuilding team. He'd make a high-end WR2 without a lot of upside in Oakland. The presence of possession receiver James Jones could keep enough attention off of Cobb to allow him to remain a low-end WR1.

Packers | Randall Cobb unlikely to rejoin Packers

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 07:29:55 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Randall Cobb is unlikely to re-sign with the team, barring something unexpected. The Packers have attempted to sign Cobb for six months with little room for optimism. The Packers have tried to sign him to a five-year deal worth around $8-$9 million per year.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb had a monster season opposite of Jordy Nelson. Leaving will most likely hurt him, as his most aggressive suitors are the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders. Can Cobb continue to perform at an elite level on an island by himself? It's possible, but he slips to a low-end WR1 or a high-end WR2 in a situation like this.

Packers | Trying to re-sign Randall Cobb

Sun, 01 Mar 2015 16:06:51 -0800

The Green Bay Packers are working to re-sign impending free-agent WR Randall Cobb, according to a pair of league sources. He is viewed as a core player that the team definitely wants to keep.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb posted 91 receptions for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2014, and he will turn 25 in August. He still has room for improvement. Fantasy owners are likely hoping he stays with Aaron Rodgers, as they have jelled together nicely in Cobb's first four NFL seasons.

Packers | Randall Cobb deal not imminent

Sat, 28 Feb 2015 11:10:28 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb may not be re-signed in the near future, but a new deal still remains a top priority for the Packers, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb figures to be re-signed instead of hitting the free-agent market as he is coming off a career year in which he totaled 91 catches for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. He'll remain in the WR1 conversation, especially in point-per-reception leagues, if/when he get re-signed.

Raiders | OAK may make run at Randall Cobb

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 04:24:10 -0800

Free-agent WR Randall Cobb (Packers) may be targeted by the Oakland Raiders if he reaches free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb has recovered from injury issues that plagued him in 2013, but a move like this might hurt his fantasy value depending on if he goes to a team with a lower-quality quarterback. It's hard to imagine Green Bay letting him go, so stay tuned.

Packers | Randall Cobb delivered on promise

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 21:04:55 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb said prior to the start of the 2014 season that he would prove that he deserved a contract extension, and he finished the season with career highs in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb established himself as one of Aaron Rodger's main targets and one of the most reliable fantasy receivers in the game. As long as he re-signs in Green Bay as expected, he should provide WR1 value in 2015.

Packers | Franchise tag unlikely for Randall Cobb

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 09:33:02 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Randall Cobb is unlikely to receive a franchise tag from the team, and instead the Packers will try to work out a long-term deal. Discussions on an extension could take place at the NFL Scouting Combine this weekend. Cobb is reportedly seeking a deal that averages $9 million per year.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb will probably have the most dangerous fantasy football value if he sticks with Green Bay in that high-powered offense, but even if he signs with another squad in free agency, he'll likely remain a WR1 in point-per-reception formats in 2015.

Packers | Randall Cobb to get long-term deal?

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 14:16:37 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Randall Cobb may be getting a long-term deal if the Packers get their wish. Though, Cobb could also be franchise tagged. The standout receiver is reportedly seeking a deal worth $9 million per year. Cobb's agent is expected to meet with the team later this week during the NFL Scouting Combine.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb had the best season of his career by far in 2014, amassing nearly 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns on 91 catches. He's a WR1 option heading into next season, assuming he does get a deal done with Green Bay.

Packers | Randall Cobb deal coming?

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 11:55:42 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb is reportedly seeking an average of $9 million per year for his new contract.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb has already said he wants to re-sign and QB Aaron Rodgers has said he wants Cobb to re-sign as well. Assuming the deal does get done, Cobb will remain in WR1 contention in one of the most prolific offenses in football.

Packers | Randall Cobb wants to re-sign

Mon, 19 Jan 2015 11:19:13 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb said his preference is to re-sign with the team this offseason. "Of course (I want to be back). I think I've made that obvious," Cobb said. "Like I've said before: This is a business. You don't know how it's going to go. What direction it's going to go in. You just have to sit around. I hope that I've put myself in the position where it'll handle itself. But only time can tell."

Fantasy Tip: At this point, it's obvious that the Cobb and Aaron Rodgers connection in Green Bay is fantasy football gold, especially in point-per-reception leagues. If Cobb re-signs and continues that connection, expect more good things with Cobb as a top-tier wideout option.

Sun, 18 Jan 2015 12:44:38 -0800

Packers | GB struggled with physical play

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 14:54:08 -0800

The Green Bay Packers were beaten by the Buffalo Bills in Week 15, and the Bills excelled by playing physical with the Packers receivers and disrupting the routes of WRs Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams. The Bills had just one sack on Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and three hits, but the lack of blitzing allowed Buffalo's corners to play more aggressively on the outside. "They were physical outside with our receivers and were able to get away with it all day," Rodgers said. "We had some chances, missed on them."

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers' dud likely cost many a chance at a fantasyfootball title. If you're playing at FantasyScore, though, he has an excellent chance to bounce back and get you a win in Week 16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their poor defense.

Packers | Randall Cobb in a groove

Thu, 23 Oct 2014 18:04:16 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb said he feels much better about his level of play in recent weeks than he did at the start of the year. "You just kind of get in a zone," Cobb said. "It's like a runner's high, or writing an exam paper and you're on page 7, and the next thing you know you're on page 12. It's just one of those things where you continue to press on, and things happen."

Fantasy Tip: Cobb has found the end zone at least once in four straight games, and he should be in for another big performance in Week 8 against a New Orleans defense that is allowing more than 270 yards per game through the air. His $7,800 salary (15.6% of cap) at FantasyScore ranks third at the position, but Cobb has the matchup and the momentum to live up to the price tag.

Packers | Jordy Nelson piling up targets

Sat, 27 Sep 2014 20:56:38 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson's 12.3 targets per game are the most in the NFL after three weeks, and WR Randall Cobb ranks second on the team with 7.0 targets per game.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb has padded his point total this season by catching three touchdowns, but Nelson is clearly Aaron Rodgers' go-to weapon right now. Cobb will cost $7,4000 (14.8% of cap) at FantasyScore in Week 4 and Nelson will cost $8,300 (16.6% of cap), but Nelson could be worth the extra cost because of the hefty amount of targets he has been seeing.

Packers | Randall Cobb looks to break out

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 18:26:11 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb will be facing the Chicago Bears in Week 4. In his final meeting against the Bears in Week 15 of the 2012 season, he had six grabs for 115 yards. In his only meeting last season against the Bears, he managed two catches for 55 yards, and both grabs went for touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb is a solid value in FantasyScore at $7400 (or 14.8 percent of the salary cap), especially since he has three touchdown grabs in the first three games.

Packers | Jordy Nelson busy in Week 1

Fri, 05 Sep 2014 06:24:32 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson had nine catches for 83 yards and was targeted 14 times in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson posted a solid 17.3 points in Week 1 on FantasyScore. The Packers had him flanked out left with Randall Cobb in the slot a lot. Jarrett Boykin was not thrown to as he was split out right and drew Richard Sherman most of the night. They'll have easier assignments next week against the New York Jets.

Packers | Randall Cobb thinks he doesn't deserve extension

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 09:37:15 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb doesn't think he's done enough yet in his career to deserve a contract extension from the team. He's entering the final year of his rookie deal, and Cobb had a breakout year in 2012 with 80 catches for 954 yards and eight touchdowns. "I got injured in a way that there was nothing I could do about it," Cobb said. "I think my job is just to come out here every day, do what I'm supposed to, continue to work hard, and hopefully my time will come."

"I think just going back and talking about a tough-minded individual, mentally as well as physically, I think he can go outside. That's something that we certainly talked about and worked on some during training camp. But obviously, he's a difference-maker in slot. Wherever you put him, he can be a difference. Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (leg) was activated from the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list Saturday, Dec. 28, and was added to the injury report with a listing of questionable.

Fantasy Tip: This means he's not certain to play on Sunday, but anyone in a Week 17 Super Bowl has a new waiver-wire target if he's available. If Cobb suits up, he may not play the entire game, but his WR2 upside is enough on which to take a chance if you own someone like Dwayne Bowe. (concussion).

Packers | Randall Cobb off crutches

Wed, 20 Nov 2013 19:06:49 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (leg) is off crutches and he is no longer using a Segway to get around. Cobb spoke with reporters Wednesday, Nov. 20, but he did not offer a timetable for when he will be able to return to practice. Cobb is on the Injured Reserve/designated to return list, and he will be eligible to play Dec. 15. He is eligible to practice two weeks before that. "I can't make that call right now," Cobb said. "Right now, today, I cannot play. I'm doing everything I can. I'm working my butt off in the rehab process, but this is something that needs time. It's getting better. There's still no timeline on when I can come back."

Fantasy Tip: In the next week or two, it might be a good idea to stash Cobb on your fantasy bench if you have some roster flexibility, and now if you have a vacant injured spot. There is no guarantee he will be able to return at all, or be effective when he does come back. However, he is a dynamic player who is worth the risk.

Fantasy Tip: With Cobb missing time, Jarrett Boykin and Jermichael Finley likely will receive bigger roles in the passing game. Owners in deeper leagues could consider adding Boykin as a flex option. Finley was performing well before Cobb's injury, but now should be seen as a safe starting tight end option each week. James Jones could also see a bump in value depending on when he will be able to return from his injury.
