Packers | Randall Cobb struggling as runner

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 19:24:01 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb is averaging 3.0 yards per carry this season when used as a running back, but head coach Mike McCarthy said Cobb hasn't had enough carries to make a judgement on the effectiveness of the package.

Fantasy Tip: The Green Bay offense continues to lack explosive plays in all areas, and Cobb's value is suffering as a result. Consider him a WR3 against the Detroit Lions in Week 3.

Packers | Randall Cobb played hurt, lost strength

Tue, 30 Aug 2016 06:16:24 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb sprained the AC joint in his right shoulder in the third preseason game last season, and he never fully recovered the entire season. The injury kept him from lifting weights, and he lost strength. "I lost a lot of weight last year during the season," Cobb said. "It doesn't help when you can't do much upper-body (training) to hold your strength. Yeah, obviously, it weighed a lot on me but I feel great right now, and that's the plan - to try to maintain my weight and try to stay as injury-free as I can."

Fantasy Tip: Cobb had an underwhelming 79-829-6 season, but he was also hurt by the loss of Jordy Nelson. Nelson is back, and Cobb should be back to the WR2 image he cemented in fantasy.

Packers | Randall Cobb on practice field

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 10:58:03 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (calf) is participating in practice Sunday, Aug. 14, after missing the first preseason game Friday, Aug. 12.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Cobb was dealing with a minor injury and should play in the next preseason game. Cobb should be one of the main targets in the passing game this season and will be a No. 1 or No. 2 receiver in most fantasy leagues.

Packers | Randall Cobb on the sidelines

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 12:26:42 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (calf) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb probably is dealing with a minor injury and should return to practice in the near future. Cobb will be one of the focal points in the Packers' passing game in 2016 and should be a No. 1 or No. 2 receiver in all fantasy leagues.

Packers | Randall Cobb working as third-down back

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 00:04:56 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb continued to see significant opportunities as a third-down back in practice on Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb has lined up in the backfield before, but if the team expands that aspect of his game it could lead to a marked uptick in receptions. While it's worth keeping an eye on, Cobb is still best drafted as a WR2 after a disappointing 2015.

Packers | Randall Cobb references Pokemon GO

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 22:59:17 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb was at practice Tuesday, July 26, and was apparently bitten by Pokemon GO craziness in the offseason. "As a receiver group, we consider ourselves playing Pokemon right now. We're trying to catch them all. We're going to go out there and try making as many plays as we can," Cobb said.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners hope Cobb can be like a Vaporeon or a Snorlax with a CP of 1,500 or more tearing up opposing gyms. For those who aren't millennials or playing the game with their kids, it means fantasy owners hope Cobb can rack up 100 or more receptions, 10 touchdowns and continue to be a WR1/2 in all formats.

Packers | Randall Cobb needs a bounce back

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 20:23:26 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb led the team with 79 receptions in 2015, but he managed a career-low 10.5 yards per catch in 2015. He also had 14 dropped passes, more than any other Green Bay receiver over the past 25 years. And when Cobb drew more attention than usual from the slot, he couldn't separate from elite corners or nickel backs.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb didn't have a lot of help on the other side, as Jordy Nelson missed the season and Davante Adams was inconsistent. Cobb should benefit from the consistency of Nelson, but he also should see less targets and receptions as long as Nelson is the top dog and on the field. Cobb remains a Top 25 fantasy option at his position, however.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers, others excused

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 09:23:25 -0700

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and other select veterans have been excused from mandatory minicamp this week by head coach Mike McCarthy. WRs Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson were also included in that group. "The approach is different than the past," McCarthy said. "So, it's obviously tailored toward the younger players." QB Brett Hundley will get most of the work with what is left of the No. 1 offense.

Fantasy Tip: The Packers are playing in the Hall of Fame Game this preseason, so their training camp will begin a week earlier in July than it did a year ago. McCarthy wants to make sure his veterans are well rested. Rodgers remains an elite fantasy QB worth taking in the early rounds, especially since he'll have a healthy Nelson to throw to in 2016.

Packers | Randall Cobb would love less attention

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 22:00:51 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb was unable to step up and fill the role as No. 1 wideout once WR Jordy Nelson (knee) went down, but part of the reason he saw so much attention was the failure of WR Davante Adams to step up as a secondary receiver.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb still managed 79 receptions, but he also turned in a career-worst 10.5 yards per catch. He is much better as a complementary receiver rather than the go-to option. He is still a solid WR2/3 or flex fantasy option in most formats, but he'll need Nelson to bounce back.

Packers | Randall Cobb released from hospital

Sun, 17 Jan 2016 10:42:24 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (chest) said he was released from the hospital Sunday, Jan. 17, and that he is feeling much better. Cobb suffered a bruised lung Saturday, Jan. 16, against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: There's still some recovery time ahead for Cobb, and he has several months to be ready for offseason activities, so he should be fine. He seems to have avoided a serious injury last night.
