Panthers | Cam Newton has confidence in Devin Funchess

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 15:37:59 -0700

Carolina Panthers rookie QB Cam Newton said he has full confidence in rookie WR Devin Funchess stepping into the starting wide receiver role for the Panthers with WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) out for the season. Funchess sat out the team's second preseason game with a tight hamstring, but he's expected to play against the New England Patriots Friday, Aug. 28. "He's a competitor," Newton said of the former Michigan star. "He's a guy that wants to be great. We talk often. I'm pretty much a person that he can trust and that I know I can trust when the game comes on the line. We just need to get him to 100%."

Fantasy Tip: Funchess will surely have plenty of targets come his way from now that Benjamin is out for the season. He's best served as a WR3 on your fantasy team, but he has upside for more as a big-bodied wideout that could get plenty of looks in the red zone.

Panthers | Cam Newton struggles Saturday

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 06:32:18 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton went 4-for-10 for 42 yards and one interception in the second preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Newton may struggle this season with Kelvin Benjamin out for the season and Devin Funchess currently sidelined with an injury. Newton is a dual threat quarterback that can still make plays, but he may be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in most leagues.

Panthers | Cam Newton better with Kelvin Benjamin

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 11:58:38 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has completed 59% of his passes when WR Kelvin Benjamin has been on the field, with 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions, but only 55% when Benjamin has been sidelined with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Fantasy Tip: Newton lost his top receiver when Benjamin suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, which probably will hurt his fantasy value. Newton may still be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in some leagues, but owners may want to look for another quarterback to fill that role on their team.

Panthers | Greg Olsen to see more targets

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 19:19:25 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Greg Olsen is expected to be the No. 1 target for QB Cam Newton following the loss of WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) to a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen had 123 last season with Benjamin on the field, and that was fourth-most among all NFL tight ends. Olsen is worth a mid-round draft pick after the premier tight ends are off the board in fantasy drafts. He could vie for a 1,000-yard season and plenty of catches, and someone will have to score in the red zone.

Panthers | Cam Newton a big rushing success

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 14:28:39 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has averaged 8.25 rushing touchdowns per season since 2011. That's more than the entire Jacksonville Jaguars team and as many as the St. Louis Rams over the same time frame.

Fantasy Tip: Newton's rushing ability is what makes him such a big threat in fantasy football. It makes up for his propensity for inaccuracy. As long as Newton can stay healthy, he's a QB1 in any scoring format.

Panthers | Cam Newton involved in scuffle

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 13:27:40 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton was involved in an altercation with CB Josh Norman during practice Monday, Aug. 10, after Newton tried to tackle Norman when he intercepted a pass.

Fantasy Tip: Newton posted solid numbers in 2014 when he threw for 3.127 yards and 18 touchdowns in 14 games. Newton has some solid weapons to work with on offense this season and could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback against most opponents.

Panthers | Cam Newton a force on the ground

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 15:30:39 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton's 33 rushing touchdowns over the last four years are the most by any quarterback during that span.

Fantasy Tip: Despite missing two games and playing on an ankle that was less than 100% at times, Newton still topped 500 rushing yards last season and scored five times. Those numbers are probably the floor for his rushing stats in 2015, and he has a great chance to finish among the top five fantasy scorers at the quarterback position.

Panthers | Cam Newton to be turned loose

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 18:48:29 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton won't run less in 2015 because of the contract extension he received, general manager Dave Gettleman said. "He's got to be Cam," Gettleman said. "You don't hold back a thoroughbred, you don't."

Fantasy Tip: Newton is healthy heading in 2015, and with the Panthers surrounding him with big targets in the passing game, he should easily provide QB1 value.

Panthers | Cam Newton works on footwork

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 06:14:36 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has better footwork and decision making in what head coach Ron Rivera called the best he has seen from Newton in practice this week. "I think it's all part of his growth," said Rivera. "Again, he's a young man. He came into this league after playing only one year of major-college football. I think it's been good for him. I think his development is really headed in the right direction and again the big plus is we've had him (healthy) for all the OTAs (organized team activities) and minicamp this year."

Fantasy Tip: Newton is a midrange QB1 that could approach the fringe of the elite tier with many of those starting to age. Even if he's burned you before, he's worth the shot as he enters this season healthy.

Panthers | Corey Brown could be deep threat

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 19:06:13 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Corey Brown (formerly known as Philly Brown) has big-play speed and he has run more precise routes during offseason workouts. He has developed a nice rapport with QB Cam Newton and he could potentially be a deep threat, more so than WR Ted Ginn Jr.

Fantasy Tip: Brown has the potential to be a breakout candidate in 2015, but risking anything more than a pick after Round 13 or so would be foolish at this point. Watch to see him perform in training camp and the preseason before bumping him up on your cheat sheets.
