Panthers | Cam Newton takes big step

Mon, 13 Oct 2014 06:40:54 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (ankle) rushed 17 times for 107 yards in Week 6 Sunday, Oct. 12. Head coach Ron Rivera said Newton was pretty close to being fully back from offseason ankle surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Newton has been heavily limited all season, but he exploded in this game and at least attempted to run the ball. Newton remains a weak QB1 on FantasyScore most weeks with some upside.

Panthers | No extension talks yet for Cam Newton

Mon, 13 Oct 2014 00:54:03 -0700

No talks on a contract extension have been held for Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton, but the team was made clear Newton has no interest in a "pay as you go" deal like those signed by Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton or San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. Signing Newton long-term will likely mean a full guarantee of over $50 million and no ability to easily cut Newton after any given season. Newton's management also wants to wait and see what type of deal Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson gets.

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 13:05:45 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (hand) was banged up late in the fourth quarter of the Week 6 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He appeared to bang his throwing arm or thumb on an interception, and was being checked by a trainer on the sidelines.

Panthers | Cam Newton on the mend

Tue, 07 Oct 2014 20:35:51 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (ankle, ribs) said he believes his ribs are fully healed, but he also said that he is still experiencing some ankle pain. "I think my body is mending up slowly but surely," Newton said. "It's giving me a lot of great confidence when I am thinking about running the football, and throwing the football, as well."

Fantasy Tip: Newton is throwing the ball well this season, but he just isn't the same dynamic fantasy option when he isn't running the ball. He has a tough matchup in Week 6 on the road against Cincinnati, and until the Panthers turn him loose, fantasy owners may want to look elsewhere for quarterback at FantasyScore.

Panthers | Cam Newton had teeth removed

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 09:22:40 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (teeth) had his wisdom teeth removed last Tuesday, but he wasn't on the Week 5 injury report. He had all four of his wisdom teeth removed Tuesday, and he said he's been dealing with some pretty bad pain. Newton went 19-for-35 for 255 yards and two touchdowns against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously Newton's teeth didn't bother him at all in Sunday's game. He'll face the Cincinnati Bengals on the road next week. It's not the best matchup for those looking to start Newton in daily leagues.

Panthers | Cam Newton checked by trainers

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 10:16:11 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (undisclosed) was checked by trainers on the sidelines after taking a hard hit in the team's Week 5 game Sunday, Oct. 5, but he is expected to be fine.

Fantasy Tip: Newton hasn't looked healthy all season, and as long as he keeps taking big hits, he will likely to continue to deal with a bunch of nagging injuries.

Panthers | Cam Newton's rehab ongoing

Thu, 02 Oct 2014 09:12:47 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (ankle, ribs) said he's surprised that his surgically repaired left ankle still isn't 100 percent. "I'm still in that mode of trying to realize I'm still trying to recover from major ankle surgery that was displayed to me originally as a little cleanup," Newton said. "But I'm glad that it happened. My ankle is getting back and is feeling stronger than ever and hopefully I will be able to display my running talents here soon."

Newton has only run four times for 14 yards in the last two weeks, and he's run eight times for 33 yards in three games, accounting for just one percent of the rushing offense. In his first three seasons, he accounted for 33.1 percent of the rushing offense. Head coach Ron Rivera said the play calling has been different because of Newton's limitations, and Rivera said Newton's rib injuries set back his rehab on his ankle.

Fantasy Tip: Newton's fantasy value has taken a hit because of his inability to use his legs for extra yards. Newton continues to say that he'll be able to open it up soon, but until that happens, he's not an intriguing FantasyScore play.

Panthers | Cam Newton to be more involved

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 11:22:42 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton is getting healthy enough for the team to expand their offense, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Newton has only rushed for 33 yards on eight carries in the last three games but accounted for 31.1 percent of the team's rushing yards in the past three seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Newton has been slowed by injured ribs and an offseason ankle surgery so far this season but could have more of an impact if he regains his ability to run. Owners may want to wait on using Newton until they see how he performs in the expanded offense.

Panthers | Cam Newton took shot to knee

Mon, 22 Sep 2014 07:34:46 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (knee) took a hit to his knees late in the game Sunday, Sept. 21, and came up limping. He said after the game that he felt fine.

Fantasy Tip: Newton has been ineffective running the ball, in large part due to his recovery from offseason ankle surgery. He's a questionable start except in good matchups due to his inability to run the ball at this point.

Panthers | Cam Newton won't be 100 percent

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 06:25:48 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (ribs, ankle) is unlikely to be 100 percent the rest of the season. He experiences pain the night after the games and receives treatment the next two days in hopes of practicing every Wednesday. Head coach Ron Rivera said Newton's ankle bothered him more than the ribs. However, Newton said neither injury was worse than the other.

Fantasy Tip: Newton's rushing yardage could be limited this season due to his ailments. However, he remains a low-end QB1 option each week.
