Jets | Bilal Powell pleases fantasy owners

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 13:39:14 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell run four times for 37 yards but added seven receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy Tip: That's a fine day in PPR leagues -- the only format in which Powell should be trusted with a lineup spot. New York gets a breather in Week 11.

Jets | Bilal Powell scores in victory

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 19:10:03 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed six times for 76 yards and a touchdown in the Week 8 game against the Cleveland Browns, and he added a three-yard reception on three targets.

Fantasy Tip: Powell has struggled with turf toe, so this was a surprising performance on the ground. Normally Powell is more effective for fantasy owners in deeper PPR leagues.

Carter and Lee have been ruled out for Week 8. Qvale and Seferian-Jenkins are listed as doubtful, while Clady and Wilkerson are listed as questionable.

Jets | Limited practice for Bilal Powell

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 15:11:41 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (toe) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Powell took a backseat to Matt Forte again last week, but Forte could be limited in Week 8. Powell's fantasy ceiling will always be stinted if and as long as Forte plays, but Powell is still a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 option in PPR leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell does not practice

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 14:58:40 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (toe) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Powell is in any danger of missing the team's Week 8 game. He has received decent playing time this season and could be a flex option in deeper leagues if he plays.

Jets | Bilal Powell plays often

Tue, 18 Oct 2016 07:28:14 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell played 39 snaps in Week 6 for 72 percent of the offense.

Fantasy Tip: Don't let the usage rate fool you because he rushed three times for 10 yards and caught three balls for 12 yards. Powell is worth holding onto, but he's not much of a flex option right now.

Jets | Bilal Powell helps out as receiver

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 13:40:45 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell caught six passes for 41 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5. He also rushed for 10 yards on four carries during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Powell will continue to see playing time as a receiver out of the backfield and could see more playing time if Forte does not improve his play. Powell should be considered a flex option at this point.

Jets | Bilal Powell rounding into form?

Tue, 04 Oct 2016 15:53:38 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell has caught 12 passes over the last two weeks after catching just three passes over the first two weeks of the season. He has also gained 56 rushing yards compared to just 43 rushing yards in the same time span.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Forte's touches have certainly decreased of late, perhaps in an effort by the Jets to preserve the veteran running back. Powell proved last season that he can be a force in the passing game. With Eric Decker sidelined, Powell should continue to see plenty of action, particularly in the passing game. He's worth a flex start in PPR formats against a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that has yielded the most receiving yards to running backs (318) so far this year.

Jets | Bilal Powell ready to make an impact

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 18:30:02 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell has five carries and three catches through two games this season, but he said he will be ready to handle a bigger load whenever he is needed.

Fantasy Tip: Veteran Matt Forte is off to an excellent start, and as long as he remains healthy and productive, Powell is simply a handcuff.

Jets | Matt Forte still thriving

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 17:20:07 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte has shown no sign of old age or wear and tear yet in 2016. He is third in the NFL in rush attempts (52), second in rushing yards (196) and tied for first in rushing touchdowns (3). It was suspected that RB Bilal Powell would take away a good chunk of Forte's touches this season, but that has not been close to the case so far.

Fantasy Tip: Forte is a weekly RB1 in standard and PPR formats at this point. As for Powell, don't give up on him just yet, especially if you own both Forte and Powell. If anything were to happen to Forte then Powell would be the heir apparent in New York's backfield. Plus, the Jets may start considering that they're using Forte too much.

Jets | Matt Forte sees the bulk of time

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 05:50:31 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte was in for 54 of the 71 offensive snaps in Week 1 while RB Bilal Powell was in on 17 plays.

Fantasy Tip: Forte rushed 22 times for 96 yards and caught five balls for 59 yards. It looked like a clear case of a team wanting to try out its new toy. Don't expect that kind of disparity moving forward. Forte is a solid RB2 in PPR leagues, and Powell should be handcuffed to him as an RB3 with upside should Forte go down.

Jets | NYJ expecting more balanced backfield?

Sat, 10 Sep 2016 09:14:10 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte will be the clear No. 1 back and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has already noted he will not be a snap count, but he may be primarily a first- and second-down back while RB Bilal Powell handles the third-down snaps, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Fantasy Tip: If Cimini proves to be correct, Forte could have trouble being much more than a low-end RB2. Realistically, however, the Jets wouldn't have pursued Forte in free agency had they not anticipated using him as a receiver, so this may be much ado about nothing. New York running backs combined for 94 catches a season ago, so there will be plenty of opportunity for both players in the passing game. Expect Forte to be a steady RB2, while Powell should be a high-end RB3/flex as well as a valuable handcuff.

Jets | Lots of rest for Matt Forte

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 13:42:46 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte should receive plenty of rest this season with RBs Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson also in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: It's to be expected that a running back at Forte's age and with Forte's workload wouldn't be a bellcow anymore. He's still the Jets' top option at the position, though, and should be viewed as a high-end RB2.

Jets | Big workload for Bilal Powell?

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 13:16:56 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell is expected to see a lot of touches this season, according to the New York Post's Brian Costello.

Fantasy Tip: Powell will play behind Matt Forte, but he played behind Chris Ivory last year and still excelled. The versatile running back has more value in PPR leagues after catching 47 passes last season. He's a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 option in those formats.

Jets | Bilal Powell contract details

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 17:03:57 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Bilal Powell's contract is three years in length and worth $11.25 million, including $6 million fully guaranteed.

Fantasy Tip: Powell will steal away a decent amount of playing time from newly acquired RB Matt Forte, specifically in passing situations. Powell was one of the most underrated PPR running backs last season and should be in the RB3 conversation in PPR formats.

Jets | Bilal Powell re-ups with Jets

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 09:51:55 -0800

Free-agent RB Bilal Powell (Jets) is re-signing with the New York Jets Thursday, March 10, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets are also signing Khiry Robinson, and Powell will likely have to battle him for about half the touches that won't go to Matt Forte. Powell is an RB4 that could emerge into an RB3.

Broncos | Denver eyeing Bilal Powell

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 11:54:34 -0800

The Denver Broncos are interested in New York Jets impending free-agent RB Bilal Powell as Powell's market begins to intensify. The Jets are still interested in bringing him back, too.

Fantasy Tip: Powell had 70 carries for 313 yards and one touchdown for the Jets in 2015, and he's had just five total touchdowns in the last two seasons. Powell would represent a complementary back in Gary Kubiak's zone-blocking scheme in Denver and is unlikely to carry much fantasy value.

Jets | Bilal Powell in focus for Gang Green

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 21:35:37 -0800

Free-agent RB Bilal Powell (Jets) has come into focus for the New York Jets, as they have already lost RB Chris Ivory to the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots are also interested in Powell's services, according league sources.

Fantasy Tip: Powell might find the situation in New York more tenable now that he would be at or near the top of the depth chart, perhaps seeing a majority of the touches.

Jets | Bilal Powell wanted back with Jets

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 06:33:43 -0800

New York Jets impending free-agent RB Bilal Powell has a fan in head coach Todd Bowles, and the team wants to re-sign him.

Fantasy Tip: Powell figures to have a larger role if he returns and Chris Ivory does not. Monitor Powell this offseason, and he could be an RB4 possibility.

Jets | New York has questions at running back

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 13:41:57 -0800

New York Jets impending free-agent RBs Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Stevan Ridley will all be unrestricted free agents this offseason if they are not re-signed.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory is expected not to re-sign, and it's unlikely that the Jets would let their three best running backs walk away. If Powell stays and the Jets don't sign anyone else, he could be the featured back in New York's offense next season.

Jets | Bilal Powell inactive for Week 17

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 08:51:13 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) will not play in Week 17's game against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) had been outplaying Chris Ivory ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) recently but he was unable to practice all week. Ivory should be considered a midrange option in FantasyScore versus the Bills.

Jets | Bilal Powell questionable

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 10:33:40 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) didn't practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is questionable for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't look good for Powell against the Buffalo Bills. Chris Ivory ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is a midrange option on FantasyScore.

Jets | Bilal Powell sits Thursday

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 10:32:52 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is out of practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has averaged 19.7 on FantasyScore the last month, but he'll need to practice Friday to be a consideration against the Buffalo Bills.

Jets | Bilal Powell's status up in air

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 15:57:40 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell's (ankle) status for Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills is up in the air. It'll become more of an issue if he can't practice Thursday, Dec. 31. "It wasn't as sore as he thought it was," head coach Todd Bowles said. "It's pretty sore now."

Fantasy Tip: Both Powell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) and Chris Ivory are beat up heading into a very important Week 17 matchup. Powell had been outshining Ivory of late, too, but if he's questionable he's probably not worth the risk on FantasyScore in the regular season finale.

Jets | Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell sit out

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 15:19:47 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Jets RBs Chris Ivory (knee) and RB Bilal Powell (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye out on the situation to see if Ivory ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) and Powell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) will be able to play against the Buffalo Bills this week. Both could decent starting option in leagues if they are active with Powell being more valuable in point-per-reception leagues.

Jets | Three Jets limited Wednesday

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 12:45:19 -0800

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and RBs Chris Ivory (knee) and Bilal Powell (ankle) were limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30. Head coach Todd Bowles said Fitzpatrick's injury is not serious.

Fantasy Tip: These guys will need to be tracked as the week goes on, but it doesn't sound like any of them are in serious doubt of missing the last game of the season. The Buffalo Bills have been mediocre defending both the pass and the run this year, so Fitzpatrick ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) and Ivory ($6,100, 12.2%) are still decent plays, while Powell ($4,900, 9.8%) has more value in PPR leagues like FantasyScore.

Jets | Bilal Powell finds the end zone

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 19:56:55 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell ran six times for just 17 yards in the Week 13 game against the New York Giants, but he added eight receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown on 13 targets.

Fantasy Tip: Powell took advantage of a poor Giants pass defense and had a nice stat line. Things might slow down in Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans, although the Titans have yielded 25 touchdown passes, second-most in the NFL.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bilal Powell probable

Fri, 20 Nov 2015 13:40:33 -0800

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and RB Bilal Powell (ankle) both practiced in full Friday, Nov. 20, and are probable for Week 11 against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) had surgery on his non-throwing thumb last Friday, but it shouldn't really affect his passes at all. He's yet to go over 300 yards passing in a game this year, though, and is a weaker daily option. Powell ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) should have a third-down role but is unlikely to see enough snaps to be useful.

Jets | Three Jets practice fully

Thu, 19 Nov 2015 13:40:58 -0800

New York Jets WRs Eric Decker (knee) and Brandon Marshall (toe, ankle) and RB Bilal Powell (ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Marshall ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) and Decker ($7,200, 14.4%) are facing a better than average pass defense in the Houston Texans, so don't expect as much out of them as you normally would. Powell still has minimal fantasy value with Chris Ivory starting, but he does have some appeal in PPR scoring formats.

Jets | Eric Decker, Bilal Powell practice

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 15:07:34 -0800

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (knee) and RB Bilal Powell (ankle) both practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Decker ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) has battled through nagging injuries all year and has still managed to be productive for his fantasy owners when he's on the field. He has added risk this weekend, though, with his quarterback coming off thumb surgery. Powell ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) will take over the third-down role but likely won't see enough playing time to be fantasy-relevant for now.

Jets | Bilal Powell moves up depth chart

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 12:30:47 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell will take over the role of RB Zac Stacy (ankle) now that he is fully healthy, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) had double-digit carries in three games in September before being injured. Since then he has only four carries for negative two yards (all on Oct. 18). He'll replace Stacy as a third-down option for the Jets, but he still has Stevan Ridley to deal with as well. Leave Powell on most waiver wires for now and ignore him in daily formats. Chris Ivory is still the workhorse in this backfield.

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) practiced Wednesday, Nov. 11, and is probable for Week 10 Thursday, Nov. 12. RB Bilal Powell (ankle) was limited all week and is doubtful.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) isn't much of an option against the Buffalo Bills on FantasyScore unless something happens to RB Chris Ivory.

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 09:00:23 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) has been declared inactive for the Week 9 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Stevan Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could see more playing time with Powell out of the lineup. Ridley likely will only receive a handful of touches during the game and is not a strong fantasy option.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) doesn't figure to see a lot of carries behind Chris Ivory ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) if that scenario plays out. Ivory is a low-end RB1 on FantasyScore.
