Jets | New York has questions at running back

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 13:41:57 -0800

New York Jets impending free-agent RBs Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Stevan Ridley will all be unrestricted free agents this offseason if they are not re-signed.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory is expected not to re-sign, and it's unlikely that the Jets would let their three best running backs walk away. If Powell stays and the Jets don't sign anyone else, he could be the featured back in New York's offense next season.

Jets | Bilal Powell inactive for Week 17

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 08:51:13 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) will not play in Week 17's game against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) had been outplaying Chris Ivory ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) recently but he was unable to practice all week. Ivory should be considered a midrange option in FantasyScore versus the Bills.

Jets | Bilal Powell questionable

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 10:33:40 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) didn't practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is questionable for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't look good for Powell against the Buffalo Bills. Chris Ivory ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is a midrange option on FantasyScore.

Jets | Bilal Powell sits Thursday

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 10:32:52 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is out of practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has averaged 19.7 on FantasyScore the last month, but he'll need to practice Friday to be a consideration against the Buffalo Bills.

Jets | Bilal Powell's status up in air

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 15:57:40 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell's (ankle) status for Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills is up in the air. It'll become more of an issue if he can't practice Thursday, Dec. 31. "It wasn't as sore as he thought it was," head coach Todd Bowles said. "It's pretty sore now."

Fantasy Tip: Both Powell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) and Chris Ivory are beat up heading into a very important Week 17 matchup. Powell had been outshining Ivory of late, too, but if he's questionable he's probably not worth the risk on FantasyScore in the regular season finale.

Jets | Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell sit out

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 15:19:47 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Jets RBs Chris Ivory (knee) and RB Bilal Powell (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye out on the situation to see if Ivory ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) and Powell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) will be able to play against the Buffalo Bills this week. Both could decent starting option in leagues if they are active with Powell being more valuable in point-per-reception leagues.

Jets | Three Jets limited Wednesday

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 12:45:19 -0800

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and RBs Chris Ivory (knee) and Bilal Powell (ankle) were limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30. Head coach Todd Bowles said Fitzpatrick's injury is not serious.

Fantasy Tip: These guys will need to be tracked as the week goes on, but it doesn't sound like any of them are in serious doubt of missing the last game of the season. The Buffalo Bills have been mediocre defending both the pass and the run this year, so Fitzpatrick ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) and Ivory ($6,100, 12.2%) are still decent plays, while Powell ($4,900, 9.8%) has more value in PPR leagues like FantasyScore.

Jets | Bilal Powell finds the end zone

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 19:56:55 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell ran six times for just 17 yards in the Week 13 game against the New York Giants, but he added eight receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown on 13 targets.

Fantasy Tip: Powell took advantage of a poor Giants pass defense and had a nice stat line. Things might slow down in Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans, although the Titans have yielded 25 touchdown passes, second-most in the NFL.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bilal Powell probable

Fri, 20 Nov 2015 13:40:33 -0800

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and RB Bilal Powell (ankle) both practiced in full Friday, Nov. 20, and are probable for Week 11 against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) had surgery on his non-throwing thumb last Friday, but it shouldn't really affect his passes at all. He's yet to go over 300 yards passing in a game this year, though, and is a weaker daily option. Powell ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) should have a third-down role but is unlikely to see enough snaps to be useful.

Jets | Three Jets practice fully

Thu, 19 Nov 2015 13:40:58 -0800

New York Jets WRs Eric Decker (knee) and Brandon Marshall (toe, ankle) and RB Bilal Powell (ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Marshall ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) and Decker ($7,200, 14.4%) are facing a better than average pass defense in the Houston Texans, so don't expect as much out of them as you normally would. Powell still has minimal fantasy value with Chris Ivory starting, but he does have some appeal in PPR scoring formats.

Jets | Eric Decker, Bilal Powell practice

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 15:07:34 -0800

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (knee) and RB Bilal Powell (ankle) both practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Decker ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) has battled through nagging injuries all year and has still managed to be productive for his fantasy owners when he's on the field. He has added risk this weekend, though, with his quarterback coming off thumb surgery. Powell ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) will take over the third-down role but likely won't see enough playing time to be fantasy-relevant for now.

Jets | Bilal Powell moves up depth chart

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 12:30:47 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell will take over the role of RB Zac Stacy (ankle) now that he is fully healthy, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) had double-digit carries in three games in September before being injured. Since then he has only four carries for negative two yards (all on Oct. 18). He'll replace Stacy as a third-down option for the Jets, but he still has Stevan Ridley to deal with as well. Leave Powell on most waiver wires for now and ignore him in daily formats. Chris Ivory is still the workhorse in this backfield.

Jets | One Jets RB good to go, one iffy

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 11:19:01 -0800

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) practiced Wednesday, Nov. 11, and is probable for Week 10 Thursday, Nov. 12. RB Bilal Powell (ankle) was limited all week and is doubtful.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) isn't much of an option against the Buffalo Bills on FantasyScore unless something happens to RB Chris Ivory.

Jets | Bilal Powell ruled out

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 09:00:23 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) has been declared inactive for the Week 9 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Stevan Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could see more playing time with Powell out of the lineup. Ridley likely will only receive a handful of touches during the game and is not a strong fantasy option.

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) and RB Stevan Ridley (knee) were full participants in practice Thursday, Nov. 5. RB Bilal Powell (ankle) was limited.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) is really the only one to consider starting against the Jacksonville Jaguars this week. He's a low-end RB1 on FantasyScore.

Jets | Limited practice for Bilal Powell

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 14:51:35 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) hasn't played since Oct. 18 and is in danger of falling down the depth chart with Stevan Ridley healthy. Leave Powell to the waiver wire in all formats and ignore him on FantasyScore.

Fri, 30 Oct 2015 10:08:05 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle), WR Chris Owusu (concussion) and WR Devin Smith (ankle) are out for Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Jeremy Kerley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) caught a touchdown last week and might be a desperation flyer against the Oakland Raiders on FantasyScore.

Jets | Three Jets miss action Thursday

Thu, 29 Oct 2015 10:34:14 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 29. WR Devin Smith (undisclosed) and WR Chris Owusu (concussion) were out of practice.

Fantasy Tip: None of the three make good FantasyScore plays this week, but Devin Smith ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is a watch list player as the team wants to integrate him.

Jets | Bilal Powell misses practice

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 15:47:48 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is still recovering from an ankle injury that forced him to miss last week's game. If he can't take the field again, Zac Stacy ($3,900, 7.8%) is a decent, lower-priced running back option on FantasyScore.

Jets | Bilal Powell out for Week 7

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 10:00:27 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is out for Week 7 against the New England Patriots. The team will discuss whether to activate RB Stevan Ridley (knee) off the Physically Unable to Perform list over the next two days. RB Zac Stacy could serve as the backup Sunday, Oct. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) doesn't figure to see a lot of carries behind Chris Ivory ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) if that scenario plays out. Ivory is a low-end RB1 on FantasyScore.

Jets | Bilal Powell sits Thursday

Thu, 22 Oct 2015 10:26:53 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) was out of practice again Thursday, Oct. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has limited value behind Chris Ivory as it is. Powell isn't consistent enough to play on FantasyScore against the New England Patriots.

Jets | Bilal Powell sits out of practice

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 14:35:20 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has played second fiddle to Chris Ivory all season, limiting his fantasy value. He has added value in PPR leagues, but he's not consistent enough to warrant starting on FantasyScore.

Jets | Bilal Powell sits Wednesday

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 10:35:56 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is out of practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets face the New England Patriots this week, and they've been good against opposing RBs the last three weeks. Even if Powell ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) suits up, it's hard to see the upside with Chris Ivory playing so well.

Jets | Bilal Powell leaves early

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 11:27:22 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in the team's Week 6 game and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Powell has been dealing with a groin injury as well, so it is not known if he will be sidelined for a significant amount of time. Chris Ivory could see more work and should continue to be a solid starting option.

Jets | Bilal Powell will play in Week 6

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 08:50:31 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (groin) is officially active for the Week 6 game against the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) should continue his role as one of the team's backup running backs. He should receive some playing time during the game but is not a strong fantasy option.

Jets | Bilal Powell likely to be inactive

Sat, 17 Oct 2015 20:02:42 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (groin) is likely to be inactive for the Week 6 game against the Washington Redskins, beat writer Rich Cimini predicted Saturday, Oct. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Powell ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) were able to play, he would be facing a stifling Redskins defense so he isn't a favorable FantasyScore option either way. If Powell cannot play it would mean more responsibilities for Zac Stacy ($2,000, 4.0% of cap).

Jets | Bilal Powell a game-time decision

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 10:31:07 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (groin) is questionable and will be a game-time decision in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Chris Ivory ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) is a better decision, anyway, against a tough Washington Redskins defense. Ivory is a low-end RB2 on FantasyScore this week.

Jets | Bilal Powell limited again

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 14:11:54 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (groin) was limited for the second straight day in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Powell's ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) status as a backup to a workhorse running back never bodes well for his upside in daily games, and he's facing a defense in the Washington Redskins this weekend that has been stingy to running backs this year.

Jets | Bilal Powell limited Wednesday

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 15:18:47 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (groin) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is the backup to a workhorse back against a Washington Redskins run defense that has allowed just two rushing scores on the ground this year. Stay away from Powell as a deep sleeper on FantasyScore.

Jets | No update on Bilal Powell

Mon, 05 Oct 2015 12:47:32 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell's (groin) status for the Week 6 game against Washington Redskins will not be updated until after the team's Week 5 bye, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Powell has posted decent numbers in his limited playing time and will receive an extra week to prepare for the next game. Powell probably should not be a starting option at this point but could be a handcuff to Chris Ivory.

Jets | Bilal Powell injures groin in win

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 18:13:22 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (groin) left the Week 4 game against the Miami Dolphins in London due to a groin injury.

Fantasy Tip: Before Powell ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) left he had one reception for 12 yards. He'll have two weeks to get well as the team is off in Week 5. If Powell is forced to miss time then Zac Stacy ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could see more run.

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 08:20:05 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (groin) left the Week 4 game early because of a groin injury and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to see if Powell ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) will miss significant time or if it is a minor injury. Powell likely will continue to be a backup running back and has limited fantasy value.

Jets | Bilal Powell quiet in start

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 18:15:19 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell had 10 carries for 31 yards and seven catches for 44 yards in a 24-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) saw some extra action with Chris Ivory ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) sitting out, but he didn't do much with his touches. Even with the 15 or so touches he has been routinely seeing with Ivory in the lineup, Powell doesn't offer much upside at FantasyScore.

Jets | Bilal Powell gets 16 touches

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 21:46:45 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell ran 12 times for 38 yards in the Week 2 game against the Indianapolis Colts Monday, Sept. 21. He also managed four receptions for 16 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is seeing plenty of touches, but he isn't doing a ton with the chances. Still, he is a decent low-end RB2 or flex FantasyScore option if you want to save salary to load up at all of your other positions.

Jets | Bilal Powell totals 14 touches

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 19:23:46 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell carried 12 times for 62 yards in the Week 1 win against the Cleveland Browns while adding a pair of receptions for 16 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) was a solid bargain for FantasyScore players since he had a decent amount of yards and 14 total touches. If you need a salary saver heading into Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts, Powell is worth consideration.

Jets | NY's running back depth is solid

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 16:54:03 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory is the team's starting running back, but the Jets' running back depth behind him with RBs Stevan Ridley, Zac Stacy and Bilal Powell is impressive and will give QB Geno Smith a lot of help out of the backfield.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory should see most of the touches in this crowded backfield, and you should consider him an ideal RB3 in fantasy leagues. The Jets are unlikely to keep four running backs on roster, so Stacy and Powell might be fighting to stay on the final roster.

Jets | Zac Stacy on outside looking in?

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 19:31:43 -0700

New York Jets RB Zac Stacy is competing with RBs Chris Ivory, Stevan Ridley (knee) and Bilal Powell for one of the running back spots on the 53-man roster in training camp and the preseason. According to beat writer Darryl Slater, Stacy is not projected to make the cut, although it could depend on the health of Ridley.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy went from fantasy starter to an afterthought in an awful hurry. If he can't crack the Jets, he could find work elsewhere. However, it appears his days as a serious fantasy option are already behind him.

Jets | Chris Ivory leads backfield

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 07:35:43 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory is listed as the starting running back entering training camp, according to beat writer Rich Cimini's unofficial depth chart. RB Bilal Powell is the primary backup, and RB Zac Stacy is listed as the third running back. RB Stevan Ridley (knee) could figure in eventually, but he's expected to be limited at the start of camp.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory established himself in a muddy backfield that was expected to be led by Chris Johnson last year. Ivory has competition again this year, but he's a solid RB2 and takes a hit in PPR formats. Powell is a decent RB4 in PPR formats. It's hard to draft Stacy right now unless Powell and Ridley slip up.

Jets | Running back situation up in the air

Thu, 21 May 2015 11:51:04 -0700

New York Jets coach Todd Bowles said his team's running back situation may take until the preseason to sort out. RBs Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, Zac Stacy, Stevan Ridley and Daryl Richardson all have experience at the position, but no one has broken out yet.

Fantasy Tip: Bowles said the team could keep as many as four backs, but it begs the question of which one to start. For now, this situation is too volatile, but be prepared to move one up your draft board if someone looks explosive in preseason games.

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 08:36:28 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell resigned with the team Tuesday, March 10, according to a league source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Powell will not be the every down back for the Jets, but will likely see a lot of the third down work in 2015. He does not have much value at this point, other than maybe as a “handcuff” for whoever the starter is in 2015.
