Sun, 10 Dec 2017 19:53:51 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed 13 times for 35 yards in a 23-0 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: Powell logged more touches than Matt Forte for the second game in a row, but his production has remained lackluster. He will be a shot-in-the-dark flex option in Week 15.

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (hamstring) practiced in full Friday, Dec. 8, and he was removed from the injury report ahead of the Week 14 game against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Powell is ready to face the Broncos. While Denver has a pretty sturdy rush defense, he should be treated as a RB3 or flex fantasy option across most formats.

Jets | Another full practice for Bilal Powell

Thu, 07 Dec 2017 15:59:21 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (hamstring) was a full participant in practice for the second consecutive day Thursday, Dec. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Powell is coming off a productive outing that saw him log his most rush attempts and first touchdown since Week 4, so he'll be someone to consider deploying in this week's matchup with the Broncos. However, with Matt Forte and Elijah McGuire lurking, he's not the trustiest of FLEX options.

Wed, 06 Dec 2017 15:45:43 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (hamstring) was able to take part in a full practice session Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Powell looks like he is in good shape for Sunday's Week 14 game against the Broncos, and he faces a favorable matchup against a rushing defense which has allowed the second-most fantasy points to running backs over the past five outings.

Jets | Bilal Powell with prime matchup

Tue, 05 Dec 2017 08:26:39 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell has a great matchup against the Denver Broncos in Week 14. The Broncos have allowed the second-most points per game to running backs over the last five weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Powell hasn't been particularly good of late as he has averaged fewer than four yards per carry over the last three weeks. He's worth consideration as a flex play this week.

Jets | Bilal Powell reaches end zone

Sun, 03 Dec 2017 14:45:43 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed for 48 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Powell received a majority of the carries against the Chiefs but has posted more than 50 rushing yards in only one of the last seven games. He should receive a similar workload next week but can be benched if owners have better options available.

Jets | Bilal Powell totals 46 scrimmage yards

Sun, 26 Nov 2017 18:49:10 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed nine times for 34 yards in the Week 12 game against the Carolina Panthers and he added one catch for 12 yards.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't great, but he was better than Matt Forte. The veteran managed just 26 yards on 10 carries. The Panthers are a difficult matchup for running backs. Powell will look for better results in Week 13 against the sliding Chiefs.

Sun, 12 Nov 2017 13:27:30 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed for 30 yards on 10 carries against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10. He also caught one pass for six yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Powell has been held to under 45 yards rushing in four of the last five games but likely will continue to be the starting running back for the time being. Owners can consider Powell as a flex option in most leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell tallies 74 rushing yards

Thu, 02 Nov 2017 22:30:00 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell logged nine carries for 74 yards (8.8 yards per carry) against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, Nov. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Despite receiving fewer carries than Matt Forte (14) or Elijah McGuire (13), Powell still managed his second-best output of the season. While he has been making the most of his limited opportunities, Powell is a tough start for fantasy owners who should be leery of his uneven work load.

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed for 33 yards on 14 carries against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8. He also caught three passes for 28 yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Powell has been held to under 44 yards rushing in each of the last three games but has been more involved in the passing game. He should receive a similar role next week against the Buffalo Bills and can be a flex option in most fantasy leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell rushes for 43 yards

Sun, 22 Oct 2017 18:28:51 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell ran nine times for 43 yards in Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins and he added two receptions for 40 yards on his two targets.

Fantasy Tip: Powell and Matt Forte each did a good job in the New York backfield, as the team built a nice lead in the fourth quarter only for the defense to fritter it away. Powell remains a decent RB3 or flex fantasy option heading into Week 8 against the Falcons.

Fri, 20 Oct 2017 12:21:42 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (calf) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 20, and is not on the injury report for Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: Powell should be the starting running back for the Jets this week but will share snaps with Matt Forte and Elijah McGuire. He will be facing a solid Miami Dolphins run defense but can still be a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option in leagues.

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (calf) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 19, and will be able to play in Week 7, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Powell probably will be the starting running back but will have to share time with Matt Forte and Elijah McGuire. Powell should be involved in the running game and passing game against the Miami Dolphins and can be a flex option for owners.

Jets | No practice for Bilal Powell

Wed, 18 Oct 2017 15:05:44 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (calf) was sidelined at practice Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Fantasy Tip: If Powell keeps missing practice this week then he'll likely be headed for a doubtful designation. In such a case, Matt Forte garners flex appeal in PPR leagues. Elijah McGuire can't be trusted after the dud he put up last week when Powell was out.

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 07:15:29 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (calf) has been ruled out for Week 6's game against the New England Patriots, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Powell did not practice at all during the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report, so his deactivation does not come as a surprise. Matt Forte and Elijah McGuire are expected to split carries this afternoon and both merit consideration as flex options in deeper fantasy leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell remains sidelined

Fri, 13 Oct 2017 10:37:38 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (calf) was unable to practice for a third straight day Friday, Oct. 13, and has been listed as questionable for Week 6 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should not expect Powell to play Week 6. Elijah McGuire is shaping up to be a low-end RB2 option as the only truly healthy back in New York. Matt Forte is expected to return from a two-game absence with turf toe and could easily log his usual 25 to 35 snaps, if not also see some action in garbage time late as the team's best receiving back should New England control the game as expected.

Jets | Bilal Powell sits again

Thu, 12 Oct 2017 11:09:06 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (calf) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Powell will miss at least Week 6 because of the injury, but owners should check on his status later in the week. He can be benched if owners have better options for their lineup. Elijah McGuire could receive most of the work at running back and can be a flex option in fantasy leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell's status uncertain

Wed, 11 Oct 2017 17:10:54 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell's (calf) status for Week 6 is still up in the air, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should check on Powell's status later in the week to see if he has a chance to play in Week 6. He could be limited if he plays and would not be a great option for owners. Elijah McGuire is in line to receive most of the work if Powell and Matt Forte are ruled out and can be at least a flex option for owners.

Jets | Matt Forte, Bilal Powell unable to practice

Wed, 11 Oct 2017 10:56:49 -0700

New York Jets RBs Matt Forte (toe) and Bilal Powell (calf) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 11, although Forte did warm up with the team.

Fantasy Tip: Forte has missed each of the last two games but appears much closer to playing than Powell, who was forced from the game early in Week 5. It's too early to say whether or not Forte will play in Week 6 versus the New England Patriots, and it's probably a good bet Elijah McGuire will draw the start even if Forte returns to full practice at some point this week. The case can be made for McGuire as a low-end flex this week, but it is mostly a situation to avoid in fantasy this week.

Jets | Bilal Powell day-to-day

Mon, 09 Oct 2017 15:31:26 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (calf) is considered day-to-day because of the strained calf he suffered in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Powell's status for Week 6 is uncertain at this point, so owners should keep an eye on his practice participation. Elijah McGuire would receive significant playing time if Powell is not able to play and could be at least a flex option in fantasy leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell held in check before injury

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 13:09:51 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (calf) rushed for five yards on two carries against the Cleveland Browns in Week 5. He also caught four passes for 28 yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Powell's status for Week 6 is uncertain at this point, so owners should monitor his situation during the week. He can be a No. 2 running back or flex option if he plays next week, owners should have other options available in case he misses the game.

Jets | Bilal Powell has calf injury

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 11:48:13 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (calf) suffered a calf injury in Week 5 and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Elijah McGuire will see all of the work at running back if Powell is not able to play. Owners should know more about Powell's injury after the game. McGuire has played well in his limited touches this season and would be at least a flex option if he becomes to No. 1 running back for the Jets.

Jets | Bilal Powell has monster game

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 14:40:39 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed for 163 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4. He also caught four passes for 27 yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Powell received most of the work with Matt Forte out and made most of the opportunity. He struggled at times earlier in the season but should receive most of the work at running back moving forward. He should be at least a No. 2 running back for owners next week against the Cleveland Browns.

Jets | Bilal Powell to shoulder the load?

Thu, 28 Sep 2017 18:43:07 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (toe) said he has "no idea" if he will play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4, and Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com expects the Jets to "lean heavily" on RB Bilal Powell if Forte is out.

Fantasy Tip: Elijah McGuire will likely have a role in the offense, but if Forte does sit, Powell would at least be worth using as a flex option in PPR formats.

Jets | Bilal Powell rebounds slightly in Week 3

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 14:44:02 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell ran 15 times for 37 yards and scored one touchdown in a 20-6 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Sept. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Last week Powell was non-existent, this week Powell led the rushing attack. No one back really stood out for the Jets. Powell is still a risky play because you never know which player will show up, and the Jets are a mixed bag at the RB spot.

Jets | NYJ will use three running backs

Thu, 21 Sep 2017 11:16:42 -0700

New York Jets RBs Bilal Powell, Matt Forte and Elijah McGuire will all receive playing time against the Miami Dolphins in Week 3, according to offensive coordinator John Morton.

Fantasy Tip: Powell entered the season as the starting running back, but Forte leads the team in rushing yards with 69 yards. Powell and Forte can still be flex options in point-per-reception leagues because of their pass-catching abilities. Owners can avoid McGuire for the time being.

Jets | Bilal Powelll used sparingly

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 20:17:05 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell finished with six carries for 13 yards and didn't record a catch in a 45-20 loss to the Oakland Raiders in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Powell is off to a slow start, and with Matt Forte earning touches and the offense struggling, you may want to sit Powell against the Dolphins in Week 3.

Jets | Rushing game limited in Week 1

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 15:55:14 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell and RB Matt Forte combined for just 38 yards Sunday, Sept. 10, in a 21-12 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Buffalo was near the bottom with its run defense last year, averaging over 133 yards given up on the ground. The fact the Bills did this to New York is not a good sign for either back. Forte may still be a flex option for deeper leagues, but the Jets' QB issues means the running game may not get the respect.

Jets | Bilal Powell takes part in practice

Thu, 07 Sep 2017 15:30:00 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ribs) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Powell will be the starting running back for the Jets and should receive a majority of the touches at the position. He will also help in the passing game, which makes him valuable in point-per-reception leagues. Powell can be a solid No. 2 back in fantasy leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell fully practices

Thu, 07 Sep 2017 12:54:14 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ribs) had his second straight day of full practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Powell is basically the only offensive hope for the Jets this season. Matt Forte seems to be wearing down and the passing game is a shell of itself compared to 2017. Powell is most valuable in PPR leagues after catching 58 passes a season ago. He's a solid RB2 this week versus a lackluster Buffalo Bills defense.

Jets | Bilal Powell practices in full

Wed, 06 Sep 2017 14:36:20 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ribs) was listed as a full participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Powell appears to be on track to face the Bills in Week 1, and he is expected to split the touches with Matt Forte in the New York backfield. Powell rolled for 122 rushing yards with one receiving score in the regular season finale against the Bills in 2016. He has a little more fantasy appeal in PPR formats, and he'll see enough targets to make him a viable RB2 in those formats.

Jets | Matt Forte on the bubble?

Thu, 31 Aug 2017 14:44:36 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte is believed to be on the final roster bubble, in the opinion of ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini. Cimini cites Forte's age and the presence of RB Bilal Powell and rookie RB Elijah McGuire as the main reasons for Forte's potential departure.

Fantasy Tip: It was recently reported that Forte was being shopped, so the fact that he may be cut shouldn't come as a huge surprise. This is Powell's backfield and McGuire has already shown he can be a promising backup. For now, view Forte as no more than a flex. He could still be picked up by another team if released.

Jets | Bilal Powell shines in passing game

Sat, 26 Aug 2017 19:33:54 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell had seven carries for 32 yards and four receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown in a 32-31 loss to the New York Giants in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Powell will likely split carries with Matt Forte, but he should see enough action in the passing game to push for RB2 production in PPR formats. The Jets don't have any proven receivers, and they figure to be trailing a lot this year.

Jets | Bilal Powell a bright spot

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 19:26:03 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell had nine carries for 32 yards and two catches for 14 yards against the Detroit Lions in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Powell could end up being the best weapon for a Jets offense lacking much firepower. He figures to be on the receiving end of plenty of dump-offs, and he is a legitimate RB2 candidate in PPR formats.

Jets | Bilal Powell to play vs. Detroit

Thu, 17 Aug 2017 15:38:48 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) will play in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Saturday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Powell missed some time because of a neck injury but will receive some playing time against the Lions. Powell will be sharing work with Matt Forte this season but should receive a majority of the touches. He can be considered a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back in fantasy leagues.

Jets | Full practice for Bilal Powell

Wed, 16 Aug 2017 16:06:26 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Powell appears to be recovered from his neck injury and could see some playing time in the second preseason game. He probably will see most of the snaps at running back this season and will also be involved in the passing game. Powell can be a low-end No. 2 running back in point-per-receptions leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell participates in practice

Tue, 15 Aug 2017 13:43:17 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) participated in 7-on-7 drills Tuesday, Aug. 15, after being absent from practice for about a week and a half.

Fantasy Tip: Powell is the Jets' running back to own this year, even if Matt Forte is healthy. Powell was a PPR machine in 2016 and there's no reason he can't be the same in 2017, especially in New York's abysmal offense that may be forced to pass a lot.

Jets | Bilal Powell, Matt Forte limited

Mon, 14 Aug 2017 15:30:08 -0700

New York Jets RBs Bilal Powell (neck) and RB Matt Forte (hamstring) were limited to positional drills during practice Monday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Powell and Forte are making progress but they probably will miss the second preseason game. Both have a good chance to be ready for the start of the regular season, but owners will need to monitor the situation. Powell could receive more of the snaps at running back this season, but Forte will also be involved in the offense. Powell can be a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back, while Forte is more of a No. 3 back.

Jets | Bilal Powell, Matt Forte unlikely to play

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 15:57:17 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) and RB Matt Forte (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 9, and are not expected to play in the preseason game against the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Aug. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Powell and Forte continue to be sidelined by their injuries, so their status for the second preseason game is uncertain. They are expected to share work at running back this season, but Powell may see more touches in the offense. Powell can be a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back in most standard leagues, while Forte could be a low-end No. 3 back.

Jets | Matt Forte, Bilal Powell still out

Tue, 08 Aug 2017 18:07:10 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) and RB Bilal Powell (neck) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Forte and Powell have both missed several practices, but the team probably will not bring them back until they are 100 percent since they will have big roles in the offense. Both are expected to receive a solid amount of playing time, but Powell may receive more of the snaps during the season. Powell can be considered a low-end No. 2 or No. 3 running back in leagues, while Forte could be a low-end No. 3 back.

Jets | Bilal Powell does not practice

Mon, 07 Aug 2017 15:35:12 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye on the situation to see when Powell will be able to return to the field. Powell and Matt Forte probably will be sharing playing time this season, but Powell could be more involved in the offense because of his receiving ability. Powell can be a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back in leagues.

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (chest) left practice early Friday, Aug. 4, because he got the wind knocked out of him, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Powell could miss a few days but should be fine moving forward. He should split time with Matt Forte this season and will be used as receiver out of the backfield. Owners should consider Powell as a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back that can also be a weekly flex option.

New York Jets RBs Matt Forte and Bilal Powell will serve as a two-man backfield committee this season, according to offensive coordinator John Morton. Morton added that the offensive gameplan will vary from week to week, but a timeshare is expected.

Fantasy Tip: This isn't positive news for Powell, who was expected by many to take over New York's backfield. He still could, but Forte won't be pushed aside easily. Powell remains the more valuable back from a fantasy perspective and should be viewed as a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 with added profit in PPR leagues. Forte is more of a flex consideration, although he could see more goal-line carries.

Jets | Bilal Powell dominated late

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 20:42:54 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell amassed 82 carries for 411 yards and two touchdowns while adding 21 catches for 141 yards over the final four games of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: It's worth remembering Powell pulled off this feat with Bryce Petty and Ryan Fitzpatrick under center and behind a banged-up offensive line as well as a defense that didn't look like it cared at times toward the end of the season. Powell's strong finish should put him in line to begin 2017 no worse than a split backfield partner, although the film suggests he should start over Matt Forte. As such, Powell should be considered a high-upside flex for now.
