Jets | Bilal Powell a bright spot

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 19:26:03 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell had nine carries for 32 yards and two catches for 14 yards against the Detroit Lions in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Powell could end up being the best weapon for a Jets offense lacking much firepower. He figures to be on the receiving end of plenty of dump-offs, and he is a legitimate RB2 candidate in PPR formats.

Jets | Bilal Powell to play vs. Detroit

Thu, 17 Aug 2017 15:38:48 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) will play in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Saturday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Powell missed some time because of a neck injury but will receive some playing time against the Lions. Powell will be sharing work with Matt Forte this season but should receive a majority of the touches. He can be considered a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back in fantasy leagues.

Jets | Full practice for Bilal Powell

Wed, 16 Aug 2017 16:06:26 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Powell appears to be recovered from his neck injury and could see some playing time in the second preseason game. He probably will see most of the snaps at running back this season and will also be involved in the passing game. Powell can be a low-end No. 2 running back in point-per-receptions leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell participates in practice

Tue, 15 Aug 2017 13:43:17 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) participated in 7-on-7 drills Tuesday, Aug. 15, after being absent from practice for about a week and a half.

Fantasy Tip: Powell is the Jets' running back to own this year, even if Matt Forte is healthy. Powell was a PPR machine in 2016 and there's no reason he can't be the same in 2017, especially in New York's abysmal offense that may be forced to pass a lot.

Jets | Bilal Powell, Matt Forte limited

Mon, 14 Aug 2017 15:30:08 -0700

New York Jets RBs Bilal Powell (neck) and RB Matt Forte (hamstring) were limited to positional drills during practice Monday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Powell and Forte are making progress but they probably will miss the second preseason game. Both have a good chance to be ready for the start of the regular season, but owners will need to monitor the situation. Powell could receive more of the snaps at running back this season, but Forte will also be involved in the offense. Powell can be a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back, while Forte is more of a No. 3 back.

Jets | Bilal Powell, Matt Forte unlikely to play

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 15:57:17 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) and RB Matt Forte (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 9, and are not expected to play in the preseason game against the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Aug. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Powell and Forte continue to be sidelined by their injuries, so their status for the second preseason game is uncertain. They are expected to share work at running back this season, but Powell may see more touches in the offense. Powell can be a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back in most standard leagues, while Forte could be a low-end No. 3 back.

Jets | Matt Forte, Bilal Powell still out

Tue, 08 Aug 2017 18:07:10 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) and RB Bilal Powell (neck) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Forte and Powell have both missed several practices, but the team probably will not bring them back until they are 100 percent since they will have big roles in the offense. Both are expected to receive a solid amount of playing time, but Powell may receive more of the snaps during the season. Powell can be considered a low-end No. 2 or No. 3 running back in leagues, while Forte could be a low-end No. 3 back.

Jets | Bilal Powell does not practice

Mon, 07 Aug 2017 15:35:12 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye on the situation to see when Powell will be able to return to the field. Powell and Matt Forte probably will be sharing playing time this season, but Powell could be more involved in the offense because of his receiving ability. Powell can be a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back in leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell leaves practice early

Fri, 04 Aug 2017 14:47:44 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (chest) left practice early Friday, Aug. 4, because he got the wind knocked out of him, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Powell could miss a few days but should be fine moving forward. He should split time with Matt Forte this season and will be used as receiver out of the backfield. Owners should consider Powell as a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back that can also be a weekly flex option.

Jets | Backfield committee to be used by Jets

Tue, 23 May 2017 11:31:16 -0700

New York Jets RBs Matt Forte and Bilal Powell will serve as a two-man backfield committee this season, according to offensive coordinator John Morton. Morton added that the offensive gameplan will vary from week to week, but a timeshare is expected.

Fantasy Tip: This isn't positive news for Powell, who was expected by many to take over New York's backfield. He still could, but Forte won't be pushed aside easily. Powell remains the more valuable back from a fantasy perspective and should be viewed as a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 with added profit in PPR leagues. Forte is more of a flex consideration, although he could see more goal-line carries.

Jets | Bilal Powell dominated late

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 20:42:54 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell amassed 82 carries for 411 yards and two touchdowns while adding 21 catches for 141 yards over the final four games of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: It's worth remembering Powell pulled off this feat with Bryce Petty and Ryan Fitzpatrick under center and behind a banged-up offensive line as well as a defense that didn't look like it cared at times toward the end of the season. Powell's strong finish should put him in line to begin 2017 no worse than a split backfield partner, although the film suggests he should start over Matt Forte. As such, Powell should be considered a high-upside flex for now.

Jets | Bilal Powell may see bigger role

Mon, 02 Jan 2017 15:12:16 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell may receive a bigger role in 2017 after he played well over the last month of the season, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Powell rushed for 411 yards over the last four games of the season, which was third most in the league during that span.

Fantasy Tip: Powell could receive a chance to compete for the starting job during training camp but will still have a solid role in the offense even if he does not start. He will be involved in the running and passing game in 2017 and should be considered a middle-round pick in drafts.

Jets | Bilal Powell hits the century mark

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 21:42:38 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed for 122 yards on 22 carries in the Week 17 game against the Buffalo Bills. He also had three receptions for 15 yards and a touchdown on three targets.

Fantasy Tip: Powell proved he is more than capable of handling the full-time load when Matt Forte was unavailable. The Jets are likely to have plenty of upheaval on their roster in the offseason. If Powell finds himself competing for the starting tailback job, he could be a nice fantasy sleeper in 2017.

Jets | Bilal Powell has terrific performance

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed for 122 yards on 22 carries against the Buffalo Bills in Week 17. He also caught three passes for 15 yards and one touchdown during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Powell should have a chance to compete for the starting running back job next season depending on Matt Forte's status with the team. He will has a solid role on offense even if he does not start and can be a middle- to late-round option in leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell active for Week 17

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 08:57:14 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (knee) will play in Week 17's game against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Powell only participated in one day of practice on a limited basis during the week and had been listed as questionable on the injury report. He is expected to start and receive the bulk of the carries this afternoon, making him worthy of consideration as a viable RB2 option in most fantasy formats.

Fri, 30 Dec 2016 15:30:08 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 30, and is listed as questionable for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Powell appears to be on track to receive most of the work at running back if he is active for the game. He has posted solid numbers this season and can be a solid No. 2 running back this week against the Buffalo Bills.

Jets | Bilal Powell draws questionable tag

Fri, 30 Dec 2016 11:21:24 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (illness, knee) is listed as questionable for Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Powell is expected to start despite his ailment, but it is worth wondering how much the Jets will want to push him in a meaningless game. He possesses a great deal of fantasy upside this weekend in a plus-matchup if he is able to handle the full workload. Looking forward to 2017, Powell's strong finish may convince the Jets to use him in a true committee with Matt Forte.

Jets | Bilal Powell injury update

Thu, 29 Dec 2016 11:12:45 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (illness, knee) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 29, because of an illness.

Fantasy Tip: Powell may be able to play in Week 17 if he recovers from his illness, so owners should check in his status closer to game time. He could receive most of the work if Matt Forte is ruled out and could be a No. 2 running back in some leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell sits out

Thu, 29 Dec 2016 08:21:39 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (knee) is out of practice Thursday, Dec. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Forte (knee) is also sitting out, which could thrust Brandon Wilds or Brandon Burks in position to see action in Week 17. Both would be really speculative flex options against the Buffalo Bills.

Jets | Bilal Powell misses practice

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 14:31:07 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Powell's injury will keep him out of the Week 17, but owners should know more about his status in a few days. He likely would receive most of the work if he is active and could be a No. 2 running back for owners.

Jets | Bilal Powell not practicing Tuesday

Tue, 27 Dec 2016 10:35:43 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (undisclosed) did not practice Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Fantasy Tip: There doesn't seem to be much panic in New York despite the fact Powell sat out the final drive of the Jets' Week 16 loss to the New England Patriots. It is more than likely a rest day, so there's a good chance Powell will be back on the field Wednesday. With Matt Forte ailing, Powell is set for another heavy workload and should be a very good play in DFS this weekend.

Jets | Bilal Powell has decent outing

Sat, 24 Dec 2016 13:21:50 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed for 60 yards on 15 carries against the New England Patriots in Week 16. He also caught two passes for 14 yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Powell was largely held in each in the running game but did receive most of the work at running back. He can be a No. 2 running back or a flex option in Week 17 if he receives another start.

Jets | Bilal Powell busy in loss

Sat, 17 Dec 2016 20:33:47 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell finished with 16 carries for 84 yards and added 11 catches for 78 yards in a 34-13 loss to the Miami Dolphins Saturday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Powell was the lone bright spot for the Jets, and if Matt Forte continues to be limited by a knee injury, Powell should be a RB2 against the Bills in Week 16, especially in PPR formats.

Jets | Bilal Powell pleases fantasy owners

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 13:39:14 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell run four times for 37 yards but added seven receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy Tip: That's a fine day in PPR leagues -- the only format in which Powell should be trusted with a lineup spot. New York gets a breather in Week 11.

Jets | Bilal Powell scores in victory

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 19:10:03 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed six times for 76 yards and a touchdown in the Week 8 game against the Cleveland Browns, and he added a three-yard reception on three targets.

Fantasy Tip: Powell has struggled with turf toe, so this was a surprising performance on the ground. Normally Powell is more effective for fantasy owners in deeper PPR leagues.

Jets | Limited practice for Bilal Powell

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 15:11:41 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (toe) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Powell took a backseat to Matt Forte again last week, but Forte could be limited in Week 8. Powell's fantasy ceiling will always be stinted if and as long as Forte plays, but Powell is still a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 option in PPR leagues.

Jets | Bilal Powell does not practice

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 14:58:40 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (toe) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Powell is in any danger of missing the team's Week 8 game. He has received decent playing time this season and could be a flex option in deeper leagues if he plays.

Jets | Bilal Powell plays often

Tue, 18 Oct 2016 07:28:14 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell played 39 snaps in Week 6 for 72 percent of the offense.

Fantasy Tip: Don't let the usage rate fool you because he rushed three times for 10 yards and caught three balls for 12 yards. Powell is worth holding onto, but he's not much of a flex option right now.

Jets | Bilal Powell helps out as receiver

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 13:40:45 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell caught six passes for 41 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5. He also rushed for 10 yards on four carries during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Powell will continue to see playing time as a receiver out of the backfield and could see more playing time if Forte does not improve his play. Powell should be considered a flex option at this point.

Jets | Bilal Powell rounding into form?

Tue, 04 Oct 2016 15:53:38 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell has caught 12 passes over the last two weeks after catching just three passes over the first two weeks of the season. He has also gained 56 rushing yards compared to just 43 rushing yards in the same time span.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Forte's touches have certainly decreased of late, perhaps in an effort by the Jets to preserve the veteran running back. Powell proved last season that he can be a force in the passing game. With Eric Decker sidelined, Powell should continue to see plenty of action, particularly in the passing game. He's worth a flex start in PPR formats against a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that has yielded the most receiving yards to running backs (318) so far this year.

Jets | Bilal Powell ready to make an impact

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 18:30:02 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell has five carries and three catches through two games this season, but he said he will be ready to handle a bigger load whenever he is needed.

Fantasy Tip: Veteran Matt Forte is off to an excellent start, and as long as he remains healthy and productive, Powell is simply a handcuff.

Jets | Matt Forte still thriving

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 17:20:07 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte has shown no sign of old age or wear and tear yet in 2016. He is third in the NFL in rush attempts (52), second in rushing yards (196) and tied for first in rushing touchdowns (3). It was suspected that RB Bilal Powell would take away a good chunk of Forte's touches this season, but that has not been close to the case so far.

Fantasy Tip: Forte is a weekly RB1 in standard and PPR formats at this point. As for Powell, don't give up on him just yet, especially if you own both Forte and Powell. If anything were to happen to Forte then Powell would be the heir apparent in New York's backfield. Plus, the Jets may start considering that they're using Forte too much.

Jets | Matt Forte sees the bulk of time

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 05:50:31 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte was in for 54 of the 71 offensive snaps in Week 1 while RB Bilal Powell was in on 17 plays.

Fantasy Tip: Forte rushed 22 times for 96 yards and caught five balls for 59 yards. It looked like a clear case of a team wanting to try out its new toy. Don't expect that kind of disparity moving forward. Forte is a solid RB2 in PPR leagues, and Powell should be handcuffed to him as an RB3 with upside should Forte go down.

Jets | NYJ expecting more balanced backfield?

Sat, 10 Sep 2016 09:14:10 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte will be the clear No. 1 back and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has already noted he will not be a snap count, but he may be primarily a first- and second-down back while RB Bilal Powell handles the third-down snaps, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Fantasy Tip: If Cimini proves to be correct, Forte could have trouble being much more than a low-end RB2. Realistically, however, the Jets wouldn't have pursued Forte in free agency had they not anticipated using him as a receiver, so this may be much ado about nothing. New York running backs combined for 94 catches a season ago, so there will be plenty of opportunity for both players in the passing game. Expect Forte to be a steady RB2, while Powell should be a high-end RB3/flex as well as a valuable handcuff.

Jets | Lots of rest for Matt Forte

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 13:42:46 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte should receive plenty of rest this season with RBs Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson also in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: It's to be expected that a running back at Forte's age and with Forte's workload wouldn't be a bellcow anymore. He's still the Jets' top option at the position, though, and should be viewed as a high-end RB2.

Jets | Big workload for Bilal Powell?

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 13:16:56 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell is expected to see a lot of touches this season, according to the New York Post's Brian Costello.

Fantasy Tip: Powell will play behind Matt Forte, but he played behind Chris Ivory last year and still excelled. The versatile running back has more value in PPR leagues after catching 47 passes last season. He's a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 option in those formats.

Jets | Bilal Powell contract details

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 17:03:57 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Bilal Powell's contract is three years in length and worth $11.25 million, including $6 million fully guaranteed.

Fantasy Tip: Powell will steal away a decent amount of playing time from newly acquired RB Matt Forte, specifically in passing situations. Powell was one of the most underrated PPR running backs last season and should be in the RB3 conversation in PPR formats.

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 09:51:55 -0800

Free-agent RB Bilal Powell (Jets) is re-signing with the New York Jets Thursday, March 10, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets are also signing Khiry Robinson, and Powell will likely have to battle him for about half the touches that won't go to Matt Forte. Powell is an RB4 that could emerge into an RB3.

Broncos | Denver eyeing Bilal Powell

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 11:54:34 -0800

The Denver Broncos are interested in New York Jets impending free-agent RB Bilal Powell as Powell's market begins to intensify. The Jets are still interested in bringing him back, too.

Fantasy Tip: Powell had 70 carries for 313 yards and one touchdown for the Jets in 2015, and he's had just five total touchdowns in the last two seasons. Powell would represent a complementary back in Gary Kubiak's zone-blocking scheme in Denver and is unlikely to carry much fantasy value.

Free-agent RB Bilal Powell (Jets) has come into focus for the New York Jets, as they have already lost RB Chris Ivory to the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots are also interested in Powell's services, according league sources.

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 08:51:13 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) will not play in Week 17's game against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Powell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) had been outplaying Chris Ivory ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) recently but he was unable to practice all week. Ivory should be considered a midrange option in FantasyScore versus the Bills.

Jets | Bilal Powell's status up in air

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 15:57:40 -0800

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell's (ankle) status for Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills is up in the air. It'll become more of an issue if he can't practice Thursday, Dec. 31. "It wasn't as sore as he thought it was," head coach Todd Bowles said. "It's pretty sore now."

Fantasy Tip: Both Powell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) and Chris Ivory are beat up heading into a very important Week 17 matchup. Powell had been outshining Ivory of late, too, but if he's questionable he's probably not worth the risk on FantasyScore in the regular season finale.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye out on the situation to see if Ivory ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) and Powell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) will be able to play against the Buffalo Bills this week. Both could decent starting option in leagues if they are active with Powell being more valuable in point-per-reception leagues.

Jets | Three Jets limited Wednesday

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 12:45:19 -0800

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and RBs Chris Ivory (knee) and Bilal Powell (ankle) were limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30. Head coach Todd Bowles said Fitzpatrick's injury is not serious.

Fantasy Tip: These guys will need to be tracked as the week goes on, but it doesn't sound like any of them are in serious doubt of missing the last game of the season. The Buffalo Bills have been mediocre defending both the pass and the run this year, so Fitzpatrick ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) and Ivory ($6,100, 12.2%) are still decent plays, while Powell ($4,900, 9.8%) has more value in PPR leagues like FantasyScore.
