Broncos | Von Miller has matured

Tue, 25 Feb 2014 09:05:02 -0800

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway said LB Von Miller grew up a lot this past year while dealing with a six-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy and then suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in December. "He's done a tremendous job of doing the right things and everything he's supposed to be doing. So hopefully he can continue to do that, because we'd love Von to be back to the Von we know he can be," Elway said.

Fantasy Tip: With a full offseason to recover from his torn ACL, Miller should be ready for the start of the 2014 season, although he may be a little slow out of the gates. A full season of Miller should help Denver's pass rush up front.

Denver Broncos LB Von Miller (knee) will have surgery to fix the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in two to three weeks, and he faces a recovery period of six to nine months, meaning he'll miss the team's offseason program and likely some of training camp next year. Miller might go for a second opinion on his knee. He wasn't using crutches after the Week 16 game and said he didn't have much pain in his knee. LB Nate Irving played in Miller's spot after he was injured, but DE Robert Ayers also saw action opposite DE Shaun Phillips.

Broncos | Von Miller suspended

Tue, 20 Aug 2013 13:55:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos LB Von Miller was suspended six games for violating the league's substance-abuse program.

Fantasy Tip: This will severely impact Miller's draft stock in leagues that involve individual defensive players (IDP). It also makes Denver's defense much less appealing, at least for the early season. Their overall defense should be considered a weak No. 1 DT, with the possibility of leaving many hoping for more.

Broncos | Von Miller likely to receive six-game ban

Mon, 19 Aug 2013 08:17:22 -0700

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos LB Von Miller is likely to receive at least a six-game suspension, as early as Monday, Aug. 19, for violating the league's substance-abuse program.

Fantasy Tip: One of the best fantasy defenses last year, the Broncos defense has taken a significant hit with Miller's suspension, Champ Bailey's (foot) injury and the loss of Elvis Dumervil to free agency. Shaun Phillips becomes the biggest sack threat on the edge, but he is aging. This DT becomes a bye-week fill-in or a good one to target later in the season off waivers.

Broncos | Von Miller arrested

Wed, 14 Aug 2013 12:59:47 -0700

Denver Broncos LB Von Miller was arrested over the weekend in Colorado in a gun club Sunday, Aug. 11, on a failure to appear in court warrant. Miller was charged with careless driving, driving without a license and having no proof of insurance in October of last year. Miller never showed up at court and a warrant for his arrest was issued in January. He was booked and released Sunday and hasn't missed any practice time because the team was off.

Fantasy Tip: This won't affect Miller's pending four-game suspension at all, but it's just another event in a rough offseason for the stud linebacker. His appeal of a four-game suspension will be heard tomorrow. If he misses the first four games of the season, his IDP stock will drop considerably and make the Broncos overall defense much less attractive on draft day.

Broncos | Von Miller's appeal to be heard next week

Thu, 08 Aug 2013 15:51:44 -0700

Denver Broncos LB Von Miller's appeal of a four-game suspension is scheduled to be heard Aug. 15, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos defense early in the year could be drastically affected in the absence of Miller. The could regroup into a strong unit, but there isn't anything showing us they should be drafted as a strong starting fantasy defense in drafts.

Mon, 22 Jul 2013 10:22:37 -0700

Denver Broncos LB Von Miller reportedly tested positive for amphetamines and marijuana during his rookie year in 2011, according to an NFL source.

Fantasy Tip: We won't know if Miller is suspended for the first four games of the season until the appeals process is heard, but it's looking like there's a good chance of that happening now. His value will surely take a hit in IDP leagues if that's the case.

Broncos | Von Miller facing suspension

Mon, 22 Jul 2013 08:19:19 -0700

Denver Broncos LB Von Miller is facing a four-game suspension for violating NFL policy. The case is currently in the appeals process.

Fantasy Tip: This would be a huge blow for the Denver defense and Miller owners in IDP leagues. The team already lost Elvis Dumervil on the edge, and losing Miller would make one of the best pass rushes in the league become quite stagnant - at least for the start of the season. Again, the case is being appealed, but if the suspension is upheld, Denver becomes a matchup-based DT.

Broncos | Von Miller's role remains the same

Thu, 16 May 2013 08:18:56 -0700

Denver Broncos OLB Von Miller's role will not change after the loss of DE Elvis Dumervil.

Fantasy Tip: Miller might have trouble matching or approaching 18.5 sacks unless he gets significant help in the pass rush to avoid double teams. Still, he remains a very solid IDP option.
