49ers | Colin Kaepernick rehabbing elsewhere

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 15:30:44 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder) is rehabilitating his surgically repaired shoulder in Colorado as opposed to San Francisco's team facility.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has made it known that he wants to part ways with the 49ers. His preference would be to join the New York Jets, but that transaction doesn't seem likely at this point. Even if Kaep returns to the bay area and starts for the 49ers under Chip Kelly, he shouldn't be regarded as a QB1, at least not right away.

Jets | New York not interested in Kaepernick

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 16:10:23 -0800

The New York Jets are not and have not been interested in San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick has wanted out of San Francisco for months now, and the hiring of new head coach Chip Kelly hasn't changed his stance. A trade remains very likely.

Fantasy Tip: Nothing is guaranteed for Kaepernick after a disappointing season that came to an end because of injury. Things could still work out for him in San Fran in Kelly's scheme if he's willing to buy in, but that's a big if. At best for 2016 if he's a starter somewhere, Kaepernick is a risky backup fantasy quarterback with upside to surprise.

Jets | Brandon Marshall doesn't want Kaep

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 10:46:35 -0800

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall said he doesn't want the team to acquire San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and wants the team to re-sign impending free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. "I don't want Kaepernick," Marshall said on ESPN's "First Take." "I think he's good. My guy's Fitz," Marshall explained. "It's nothing against Kaepernick, but what I'm saying is that I have my quarterbacks and I'm good."

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick had a breakthrough season and would be in the low-end QB1 range if he re-ups with the Jets.

Jets | New QB for Gang Green?

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 19:08:34 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick reportedly "wants out of San Francisco," and sources said Tuesday, Feb. 2, that the New York Jets are his preferred destination. The team is aware and intrigued in Kaepernick's desire to play for the cub, but are still in early stages of their offseason planning and evaluation, sources said.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick would have Brandon Marshall at his disposal if he were to make the move cross-country, but know that this is a story in its embryonic stages. Nothing is imminent right now.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick wants to leave

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 15:39:49 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick wants to leave the 49ers and join the New York Jets, according to sources. The Jets are aware of and intrigued by Kaepernick's aspiration, but they are still in the early stages of their offseason planning and evaluation, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Keep in mind that New York has already expressed a desire to re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, although, that was before the Kaepernick news. There are many pieces of the puzzle that have to come together in order for Kaepernick to land with the Jets. Right now that puzzle is a little too complicated.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick could reclaim starting gig

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 16:29:41 -0800

San Francisco 49ers chief executive officer Jed York can see QB Colin Kaepernick winning his starting job back in 2016 if he is healthy. "There's no question in my mind," York replied. "I've always had a very, very high opinion of Kap. Kap's a great kid, he's done a lot of great things for us. And again, this is a fresh start for everybody."

Fantasy Tip: The addition of new head coach Chip Kelly should help Kaepernick reclaim his role as a successful starting quarterback, as Kelly's offensive system is friendly to mobile QBs like Kap. It remains to be seen if they'll stick with him, but if they do and he wins the job, consider him an attractive fantasy backup with room for more.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick a good fit for offense?

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 18:20:10 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's running ability could make head coach Chip Kelly's offensive system more effective. When Kelly was with the Philadelphia Eagles, the offense averaged 6.6 yards per play when QB Michael Vick played and 5.7 yards per play with any other quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, it isnít a guarantee that the 49ers will even keep Kaepernick, but he would become an intriguing fantasy option if he lands the starting gig in Kelly's offense.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick has guaranteed contract

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 09:13:31 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's 2016 contract becomes fully guaranteed for injury come April 1, and the 49ers would have to pay him $11.9 million. Many believe the 49ers might try to trade or release him before then.

Fantasy Tip: The move to add Chip Kelly as the new head coach changes everything. Kelly likes having mobile quarterbacks run his high-octane offense, and Kaepernick more than fits the bill. If Kelly decides to keep Kaepernick and have him compete for the starting QB job, a big rebound could be in store. Keep an eye on Kaepernick as a sneaky sleeper if he stays and wins the job.

49ers | RG III an option in San Francisco?

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 11:14:24 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III could be an option for the San Francisco 49ers to compete with QB Colin Kaepernick after the 49ers hired head coach Chip Kelly, in the opinion of USA TODAY Sports' Jim Corbett.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin could land in a spot to compete for a starting job this offseason and is worth watching for fantasy purposes.

NFL | Two coaches interested in SF job

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 11:22:48 -0800

Free-agent head coaches Chip Kelly (Eagles) and Mike Shanahan (Redskins) are both interested in the San Francisco 49ers head coaching position. Shanahan last coached in 2013. The 49ers are not giving up hope that QB Colin Kaepernick can be saved, and both coaches have had success with mobile quarterbacks.
