49ers | Colin Kaepernick inconsistent

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 20:46:56 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick started training camp sharp but made mistakes later in the day Sunday, Aug. 2.

Fantasy Tip: If Kaepernick can put it all together, he has the weapons in the passing game and the scrambling ability to put up QB1 numbers. However, consistency remains a challenge, and it is best to draft him as a backup.

49ers | Bruce Ellington impresses in camp

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 20:27:53 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington was impressive as the No. 3 receiver during training camp Sunday, Aug. 2, catching a long touchdown from QB Colin Kaepernick and adding an acrobatic catch down the sidelines.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington has the speed to turn any catch into a big play, and if he wins the No. 3 receiver job, he could be worth a flier in deeper formats.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick improving throws

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 10:51:40 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has impressed his teammates this offseason by improving the touch on his passes. FS Eric Reid said he's optimistic about how Kaepernick will do this year, especially with the touch he's seen on deep throws.

Fantasy Tip: If Kaepernick can be more accurate on his deep passes, the 49ers could certainly be a more dangerous offense, especially with new deep threat Torrey Smith. San Francisco may also try to use the running backs more in the passing game, which could aid Kaepernick in his accuracy. Still, Kaepernick should not be drafted as your starting quarterback.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick excited about changes

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 17:27:19 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick said he is excited about the upcoming season and believes all the changes this offseason have been for the better. "I feel very confident in our team," Kaepernick said. "I feel people are writing us off, but for us, that's all right."

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick is probably exaggerating just a bit, but while the 49ers lost a lot on the defensive side of the ball, the offense still has a chance to be solid. It remains to be seen if he can put it all together, but his upside as a runner gives him QB1 potential.

49ers | Big role for Torrey Smith?

Sat, 23 May 2015 19:56:04 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith was a featured part of the offense during practice Thursday, May 21, connecting with QB Colin Kaepernick on several plays and catching a touchdown from QB Blaine Gabbert in the red zone.

Fantasy Tip: Smith still figures to do a lot of his damage via big plays down the field, but he should see enough targets on a weekly basis to warrant consideration as a WR2 in traditional formats. In PPR leagues, he is more of a WR3.

49ers | Vernon Davis ready to rebound?

Sat, 23 May 2015 19:45:54 -0700

San Fancisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis caught a pair of red-zone touchdowns from QB Colin Kaepernick during practice Thursday, May 21, and he added a 25-yard reception on a deep crossing route.

Fantasy Tip: Davis was a non-factor on offense for large stretches of last season, but he still has the athleticism to be a productive player. If he continues to enjoy a larger role in the offense, he could easily return to TE1 status in 2015, and he is worth taking a chance on if you wait until later in drafts to address the position.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick looking good

Sat, 23 May 2015 19:13:45 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick was accurate on his throws with his new throwing motion in practice Thursday, May 21. His passes still had their usual zip, and he was able to remain accurate while throwing on the run when plays broke down.

Fantasy Tip: Although it was just practice, the news is certainly encouraging. Kaepernick has a ton of upside because of his scrambling ability, but his inconsistent passing has held him back in the past. There is no guarantee he will make the leap to the next level in 2015, but the potential reward is worth the risk if you wait until later in fantasy drafts to take a quarterback.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick helped by Reggie Bush

Wed, 13 May 2015 13:25:43 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush has been an asset to QB Colin Kaepernick this offseason, according to general manager Trent Baalke. Baalke said Bush and Kaepernick have developed a rapport and that Bush's downfield speed gives Kaepernick more room to work with.

Fantasy Tip: Carlos Hyde is still expected to start in the 49ers' backfield, but Bush should be the primary passing-down running back. Head coach Jim Tomsula has already lauded Bush as an every-down back, so Bush should still see his fair share of playing time. Hyde is in the RB2 conversation while Bush shouldn't be considered more than a RB3. With Torrey Smith, Vernon Davis and Reggie Bush as weapons, not to mention his running ability, Kaepernick should be in the QB1 conversation heading into 2015.

49ers | Teammate impressed with Colin Kaepernick

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 13:34:16 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has been impressive this offseason and looks like a different quarterback, according to TE Vernon Davis.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick saw a small increase in his passing and rushing yards this past season but did throw fewer touchdowns and more interceptions. Kaepernick probably will be a low-end starting option most weeks next season.

49ers | Anquan Boldin has advice for QB

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 19:12:44 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Anquan Boldin said QB Colin Kaepernick just needs to play his way. "I think sometimes when you try to go off the suggestions of other people and try to please other people, you forget who you are and what got you there," Boldin said Wednesday, April 8.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has struggled to live up to the potential he showed as a rookie, but because of his upside, Kaepernick is still worth taking a chance on as a high-end QB2 in 2015.
