49ers | Teammate impressed with Colin Kaepernick

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 13:34:16 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has been impressive this offseason and looks like a different quarterback, according to TE Vernon Davis.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick saw a small increase in his passing and rushing yards this past season but did throw fewer touchdowns and more interceptions. Kaepernick probably will be a low-end starting option most weeks next season.

49ers | Anquan Boldin has advice for QB

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 19:12:44 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Anquan Boldin said QB Colin Kaepernick just needs to play his way. "I think sometimes when you try to go off the suggestions of other people and try to please other people, you forget who you are and what got you there," Boldin said Wednesday, April 8.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has struggled to live up to the potential he showed as a rookie, but because of his upside, Kaepernick is still worth taking a chance on as a high-end QB2 in 2015.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick continues lessons

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 19:03:53 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick continues to work with former NFL MVP Kurt Warner this offseason, and Warner's goal is trying to get Kaepernick to wait longer in the pocket as a passer before using his athleticism as a crutch. Warner said in a satellite radio interview Monday, April 6, that Kaepernick has relied on his running ability so long that it's a difficult transition to become the type of pocket passer necessary for success in the NFL.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick wasn't a total bust from a fantasy perspective in 2014, but he didn't do nearly as well for his real team. His passer rating was a career-low 86.4 and he averaged just 7.0 yards per pass attempt. He is worth a look as a QB2 heading into 2015, and he could be quite a steal if he reverts back to his rookie form.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick's salary guaranteed

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 11:07:15 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's $10.4 million base salary for the 2015 season has become fully guaranteed since he was on the roster Wednesday, April 1.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick saw a small increase in his passing yards from 2013 to 2014 but did see his touchdowns go from 21 in 2013 to 19 this past season. Kaepernick is still considered a dual threat quarterback since he rushed for 639 yards this past season but may not be an every week starting option for owners next season.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick learning

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 10:47:33 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has been working with former NFL QB Kurt Warner this offseason to become a better all-around quarterback. "For (Kaepernick), it's finding that balance between 'When do I be a quarterback?' and 'When do I be an athlete?' And trying to find that mix between the two," Warner said. "... So the real question is going to be, when the bullets are flying and guys are chasing after him does he revert back to being an athlete or have we made some progress in making him more of a quarterback and staying in a quarterback-friendly position to be able to make more consistent, accurate throws down the field."

Fantasy Tip: Despite a career high in passing and rushing yards in 2014, Kaepernick struggled elsewhere as a quarterback for the Niners. His ability to gain yards on the ground will continue to give him upside and plenty of intrigue as a fantasy QB, but with a largely retooled offense and new coaching staff, Kaepernick shouldn't be seen as anything more than a QB2 with upside if he improves his accuracy and decision-making skills in the pocket.

49ers | HC has confidence in Colin Kaepernick

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 16:23:54 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has a backer in new head coach Jim Tomsula. "Statistically and all that kind of stuff, people throw those out there -- Colin had his best year, OK. Colin is working down in Arizona. He's a great dude. He's a real good dude. He's a good teammate. He's a neat cat. Colin's going to do real well. Colin's a great football player and even better person. We're really excited about Colin," Tomsula said.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick had a career-high 3,369 yards passing in 2014, but he also threw less touchdowns (19) and more interceptions (10) than he did in 2013. It's clear that he needs to become more accurate and a much better pocket passer in order to have continued success in the NFL. He could be a sleeper in 2015, though, and he should be drafted as a QB2 with upside for more.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick impresses in workouts

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 07:32:12 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick spent five days a week working out, watching film and fine-tuning his mechanics during a 10-week offseason session with quarterback coaches Dennis Gile and Mike Giovando. "I don't think there was a throw he couldn't make when he first got here," Gile said "I just think the consistency and efficiency of it was what we wanted to get better at, and I think that's where we made tremendous strides. He became a lot more consistent and efficient with those balls."

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick will be a mid-to-low QB1 target in traditional drafts in 2015.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick not on the block

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 15:16:13 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick isn't being put on the trade block, according to general manager Trent Baalke. Baalke was shooting down a rumor that said the Niners were interested in trading Kaepernick. The report listed the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears among the suitors. "Colin is our quarterback and we are excited to have him," Baalke said. "He is not going anywhere. The media reports suggesting otherwise are without merit and, quite frankly, ridiculous."

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick's disappointing 2014 season (3,369 passing yards, 19 TDs and 10 interceptions) will surely be reflected in 2015 fantasy football drafts. There suddenly isn't as much optimism surrounding Kaepernick's fantasy value unless he becomes a much better pocket passer. The Niners seem to be in a rebuilding phase, as well, which doesn't help. However, he still has upside because of what he can do with his legs, but you should play it safe and consider him nothing more than a decent QB2 in 2015.

49ers | More read option for Colin Kaepernick?

Tue, 03 Feb 2015 13:21:05 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and the team are expected to return to more of a read-option offense in 2015 under head coach Jim Tomsula in order to take advantage of Kaepernick's running ability. There was a sense in the front offense that SF's offense had become too clunky with too many moving parts. The Niners' new offense will be intended to be simpler and get to the line of scrimmage quickly to put pressure on the defense.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick's down season in 2014 will likely make him a value pick in this year's NFL fantasy drafts. If he's allowed to do more designed runs under Tomsula, he could become much more effective for his fantasy football owners as a QB2.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick to develop as pocket passer

Fri, 09 Jan 2015 10:00:12 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has enlisted the help of former QB Kurt Warner this offseason in order to help him develop as a pocket passer. "He's gotten by on athleticism, and he's made some great plays and had some great games. But I think the goal is in the time that I'm going to have with him is just to see where he's at and what he knows about the position and how far we can push the envelope as far as helping him develop as a pocket passer," Warner said. Kaepernick ranked 20th in the league with a career-low 86.4 passer rating this season.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick will always be intriguing as a fantasy football quarterback because of his ability to make plays with his legs, as he did often in 2014. However, he won't be a complete QB1 until he develops as a pocket passer and improves his accuracy. If he can do that, he could morph into a true QB1 for fantasy purposes.
