49ers | Zone-read offense returned against Tennessee

Tue, 22 Oct 2013 09:49:14 -0700

The San Francisco 49ers were successful on many zone-read runs in their victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 7. QB Colin Kaepernick had a 20-yard rushing touchdown and finished with 68 yards on 11 runs. His running also opened up throwing lanes on the perimeter for the receivers. WR Anquan Boldin had five catches for 74 yards, and he thought he pistol scheme allowed for one-on-one matchups on the outside. "It makes defenses declare," Boldin said of the quarterback-driven runs. "Are you going to be bringing an eighth guy down in the box to stop the run or are you going to stay with seven guys? It definitely clears things up for us. It allows us to throw the ball outside as well."

Fantasy Tip: The Niners offense is clicking on all cylinders right now, and it coincides with the success that Frank Gore is having on the ground with a substantial workload. Look for San Fran to continue using this recipe, and the success should continue this weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick struggles

Mon, 23 Sep 2013 11:28:17 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick finished with just 20 yards rushing and had only 86 yards passing midway through the fourth quarter of the team's ugly loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick is in a two-game slump, and without Vernon Davis (hamstring), it became apparent that the San Fran QB didn't have a whole lot of help in the passing game. Davis' return should help Kap, but his struggles could continue throughout the season.

49ers | Anquan Boldin shines in debut

Mon, 09 Sep 2013 10:28:41 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Anquan Boldin totaled 208 receiving yards and a touchdown on 13 catches in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. Boldin's highest yards output in three years with the Baltimore Ravens was 145 yards. QB Colin Kaepernick's 412 passing yards were the most by an opening day quarterback in team history.

Fantasy Tip: Boldin looks like he could be a point-per-reception gold mine this year if Kaepernick looks to him like he did Michael Crabtree a year ago. Keep in mind, though, that Green Bay's secondary is rather weak against the pass. Don't expect this kind of output next week from either Boldin or Kap against the Seattle Seahawks' stout D in Week 2.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick improves touch

Thu, 05 Sep 2013 08:29:07 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick vastly improved on his touch passes in the offseason. TE Vernon Davis called him a completely different player in terms of his touch and precise decisions in the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick was known to have a rifle of an arm, but some throws sailed on him. The improved touch should serve him well on short and intermediate routes. He also worked with Olympic sprinters in the offseason to try to improve his speed. Kaepernick sounds like he isn't resting on his laurels and has the work ethic to go with his wealth of physical talent.
