Cowboys | Colin Kaepernick not on Dallas' radar

Fri, 19 May 2017 10:54:06 -0700

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is reportedly "not a fit" for the Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Fantasy Tip: Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan is known to love Kellen Moore as Dak Prescott's backup, so this report should not come as much of a surprise. Kaepernick probably has no desire to compete for a backup job either since he believes he is still a starting quarterback in the league.

Seahawks | Seahawks have interest in Colin Kaepernick

Mon, 15 May 2017 22:03:32 -0700

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has drawn interest from the Seattle Seahawks, who reached out to his agent last week. The interest in Kaepernick as a potential backup quarterback is "legit."

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick may be the best quarterback available, but time is running out on him having any fantasy value whatsoever entering the 2017 season. It's unlikely that will change, as it appears the former Super Bowl-starting quarterback will have to ultimately settle for a backup role.

Seahawks | Seattle looking at free-agent quarterbacks

Mon, 15 May 2017 11:12:56 -0700

Free-agent QBs Colin Kaepernick (49ers) and Robert Griffin III (Browns) have drawn interest from the Seattle Seahawks as possible backups to QB Russell Wilson.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson's job is not in jeopardy. Kaepernick and Griffin both possess similar playing styles to Wilson, though, so signing either of them as Wilson's backup makes sense. Continue to draft Wilson as a QB1.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick still has interest

Thu, 11 May 2017 13:44:39 -0700

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has drawn interest from three teams since the start of free agency, according to Kaepernick's adviser.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick is the most talented free-agent quarterback remaining and is actually coming off a nice season. He managed over 2,700 total yards and 18 total touchdowns in just 12 starts. Kaep has starter ability, but he obviously has no value of now. If he is signed, he'll be worth taking a shot on in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.

NFL | SF, Colin Kaepernick haven't spoken

Tue, 28 Mar 2017 23:39:56 -0700

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) and the San Francisco 49ers have not had any contact since general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with him on Feb. 22.

Fantasy Tip: It seems very unlikely there would be a reunion between the two sides. Although San Francisco is one of the select situations around the NFL that feature a chance to compete for a starting job under center, Kaepernick will continue to look elsewhere. It's unlikely he has any fantasy value next year at this rate.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick looking for chance to start

Tue, 28 Mar 2017 05:19:02 -0700

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is looking for a team with a chance to compete for a starting job and the potential to earn $9-$10 million per year.

Fantasy Tip: There are only a few teams that can offer him a chance to start. If he finds that role, he'll be a mid-to-low QB2 in fantasy.

Broncos | Denver unlikely to pursue Colin Kaepernick

Mon, 27 Mar 2017 17:29:06 -0700

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) likely will not receive interest from the Denver Broncos because the team would look for a quarterback that would fit their offense better if they decide to sign a veteran quarterback, according to general manager John Elway.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick may not be able to find a team until after the 2017 NFL Draft and may have to settle for a backup job next season. He could be avoided in all leagues if he is a backup and would be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he finds a starting job.

Browns | CLE owner open to adding Colin Kaepernick

Mon, 27 Mar 2017 16:32:49 -0700

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said the team has not discussed the possibility of signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers), but he would be open to pursuing Kaepernick if the front office were interested in him.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has not received much interest during free agency but could be an option for teams after the 2017 NFL Draft. He would have a decent chance to start in 2017 if he signed with the Browns but would not be more than a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Jets | Colin Kaepernick not an option for Jets

Sat, 18 Mar 2017 13:41:21 -0700

The New York Jets are not interested in signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers), according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick probably will not be able to find a starting job this offseason but should be able be a backup for a team in 2017. Owners in fantasy leagues can avoid him if he is not a starting quarterback.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick could return to 49ers

Fri, 17 Mar 2017 13:36:18 -0700

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch has not ruled out the possibility of the 49ers re-signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick but did say the likelihood if it happening has dropped since the team has added QBs Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has not been linked to many teams this offseason, so he probably will have to wait before signing with a team. He will not have any fantasy value if he is a backup next season and would only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he does start.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick officially opts out

Fri, 03 Mar 2017 06:12:22 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick opted out of his contract Friday, March 3, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: He averaged 187 passing yards and 1.33 touchdowns per game last season along with 39 rushing yards. He only threw four picks last season, which was a vast improvement. He is shell of the dynamic dual threat that took his team to the Super Bowl four years ago. He's a meager QB2 in fantasy.

Browns | Colin Kaepernick not an option for Browns

Wed, 01 Mar 2017 15:57:17 -0800

San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick will not receive interest from the Cleveland Browns in free agency, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick's agents have informed all 32 teams that he will be available this offseason, but it appears the Browns will be looking at other options. It is not known if Kaepernick will be able to find a starting job, but he has had success in the past. He could be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in some leagues if he is a starter in 2017.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's new agents, Jeff Nalley and Sean Kiernan, have informed all 32 teams that Kaepernick will be opting out of his contract.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick's fantasy hourglass is getting pretty thin. He could be a midrange QB2 at best right now.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick meets with GM, coach

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 15:59:36 -0800

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick met with general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan Wednesday, Feb. 22. Lynch said they had a positive conversation and that both sides left the meeting excited.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Kaepernick will pick up the option in his contract. Kaepernick has a chance to start for a team in 2017 but would only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in most leagues.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick visits team headquarters

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 15:20:06 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick visited the team's headquarters Wednesday, Feb. 22, according to a source. Kaepernick likely was there to meet with general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has a few more weeks to decide if he will pick up his option or if he will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Kaepernick will be available if the 49ers want to move on and could receive some interest from teams looking for starting quarterbacks. Kaepernick probably should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he starts and can be avoided if he is a backup.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick open to returning to SF

Tue, 14 Feb 2017 22:00:54 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is open to returning to the team in 2017, according to "those close to him." The 29-year-old is due to earn nearly $15 million in base salary, but he can also opt out of the deal and enter free agency, which begins on March 9. San Francisco also has the option of releasing him with little ramifications to their salary cap.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick ended up putting together a pretty nice season, finishing with 16 touchdowns versus only four interceptions, while recording a 90.7 QB rating -- his best since 2013. Furthermore, he averaged nearly 40 rushing yards per game. With a new coaching staff and general manager, San Francisco ultimately may decide to go in a different direction, but if Kaepernick still has a starting job next year, he could end up being a solid QB2 option.

Broncos | Denver unlikely to pursue Colin Kaepernick

Fri, 10 Feb 2017 09:05:18 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is not expected to be a trade target again this offseason for the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick-to-Denver looked like it was going to happen last offseason, but the compensation can never get worked out, and the Broncos ended up sticking with Trevor Siemian and drafting Paxton Lynch. Denver has reaffirmed its commitment to developing both several times already this offseason, so it appears Kaepernick will have to look elsewhere for a potential starting gig if he opts out of his deal with San Francisco.

49ers | Coach, GM will meet with Colin Kaepernick

Thu, 09 Feb 2017 14:46:04 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick will meet with general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan. Kaepernick has reached out to both men.

Fantasy Tip: It would behoove the 49ers to at least attempt to get on the same page with the polarizing quarterback. San Francisco has three quarterbacks who are impending free agents. Kaep is not one of them. His running ability really keeps him on the fantasy radar, so don't completely disregard him just yet.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick still undecided

Wed, 08 Feb 2017 11:54:17 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has not decided if he will opt out of his contract this offseason, according to a source. Kaepernick has not talked with head coach Kyle Shanahan or general manager John Lynch at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick will need to make a decision on his contract in the near future, so owners will need to keep an eye on the situation. He may be able to find another starting job if he opts out and could be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback depending on his situation.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is expected to opt out of his contract when he's eligible to do so March 2, according to a report by ESPN.

Fantasy Tip: The sands in his fantasy hourglass are growing thin after injuries have plagued him the last couple of years. He could still be a matchup play in the right situation.

Jets | Colin Kaepernick of interest to the Jets?

Mon, 30 Jan 2017 09:07:33 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is entering the final year of his contract in due to have a $19.3 million cap figure, and the team can save $16.9 million in cap space by cutting or trading him. One possible destination could be the New York Jets, who named New Orleans Saints receivers coach John Morton as their new offensive coordinator Sunday, Jan. 29. Morton served as the receivers coach in San Francisco from 2011 to 2014 - Kaepernick's first four years in the league.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith appear done in New York, while Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg haven't done anything to suggest they are the long-term answer. Kaepernick doesn't figure to be a long-term answer either, but he did throw for 16 touchdowns versus only four interceptions in 12 games last year. After having Jeremy Kerley serve as his top receiver in 2016, Kaepernick could surprise a bit in 2017 with Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker at his disposal.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick leads team to win

Sat, 24 Dec 2016 18:04:30 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick completed 28 of his 38 pass attempts for 266 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Week 16 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He also ran six times for 15 yards and a score, and added a two-point conversion.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has thrown for 10 touchdowns over his past six games, and outside of that disastrous snow game in Chicago in Week 13 he has been a borderline low-end QB1 or must-start QB2 down the stretch in most fantasy formats.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick tosses pair of TDs

Sun, 18 Dec 2016 22:51:17 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick completed 20 of his 33 pass attempts for 183 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 15 game against the Atlanta Falcons. He also rushed three times for 21 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick had an OK game, but he did not have a huge statistical game against the league's worst-ranked passing defense. He remains more of a QB2 in fantasy leagues headed down the stretch.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick added to injury report

Thu, 15 Dec 2016 19:10:22 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (neck) was added to the injury report but was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 15.

Fantasy Tip: The Falcons defense has given up plenty of points this year, but Kaepernick is still nothing more than a desperation QB2 in Week 15.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick to draw another start

Tue, 06 Dec 2016 10:16:55 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick will get the start in Week 14 against the New York Jets, according to offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins.

Fantasy Tip: After about a month-long run as the second-best quarterback in fantasy behind Aaron Rodgers, the 49ers only allowed Kaepernick to throw five passes and run six times before benching him in the fourth quarter during what was supposed to be a very good matchup against an injury-riddled Chicago Bears defense. The Jets arguably present a better matchup and he'll be at home this time around, but the risk of trusting him outside of a contrarian play in DFS is just too high during the fantasy playoffs.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick bench in loss

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 13:08:39 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick was benched in the fourth quarter of the team's Week 13 after he completed only one of his five passes for four yards during the game. He also sacked five times during the game and lost 25 yards. Kaepernick was replaced by QB Blaine Gabbert during the game.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Kaepernick will remain the starting quarterback or if Gabbert will take over the job. Kaepernick played well before Week 13, but owners may want to avoid the 49ers quarterback situation for the rest of the season.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick will void his contract

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 09:52:37 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick will void his contract after the season and will become an unrestricted free agent, according to sources. Kaepernick has not ruled out re-signing with the 49ers during the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has posted decent numbers since taking over the starting job and has six touchdowns and one interception over the last three games. Kaepernick can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback against certain opponents moving forward.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick surging on the ground

Tue, 29 Nov 2016 15:01:43 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is averaging 62.2 yards per game on the ground. In total, Kaepernick has 373 rushing yards on 46 attempts, including one touchdown. "He's out there, he's in control and when he sees an opportunity he's taken advantage of it," offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins said. In addition to his rushing success, Kaepernick is averaging 277.5 yards per game through the air with eight touchdowns and just two interceptions.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has been one of the most pleasant surprises in the fantasy realm after taking over as the 49ers' starter. His running ability gives him a distinct advantage over pocket passers from a fantasy perspective and he should no longer be overlooked. In fact, he should be started this week in a favorable matchup against an ailing Chicago Bears defense.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick on a binge

Tue, 29 Nov 2016 07:41:37 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has 1,110 passing yards and eight touchdowns on 145 passing attempts over his last four games, and all of which are the highest four-game totals of his career.

Fantasy Tip: He has completed 59.3 percent of his passes during the stretch, which is exactly his career average. Kaep isn't a surefire starting option in fantasy, but he's chucking it well right now. He has a so-so matchup against the Chicago Bears in Week 13, but he's someone to think about for a lower price in DFS.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick explosive in loss

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 14:00:53 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick completed 29-for-46 passing for 296 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins. He rushed a game-high 113 yards on 10 carries.

Fantasy Tip: Kaep has been more than capable of exploiting favorable matchups in recent weeks. The Niners have midrange fantasy schedule the rest of the way, so keep him in mind for streaming and DFS purposes.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick tosses two TDs

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 22:17:44 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick completed 16 of his 30 pass attempts for 206 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 11 game against the New England Patriots. He rushed four times for 32 yards and was sacked five times.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick had a fairly decent performance against the Patriots in rainy and sloppy conditions. The 49ers can expect better weather in their Week 12 matchup in Miami. He remains a solid QB2 in most fantasy formats.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick doesn't do much

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 21:47:33 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick completed 17 of his 30 pass attempts for 210 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the Week 10 game against the Arizona Cardinals. He rushed 10 times for a team-high 55 yards and a touchdown, too.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick did OK against a solid defense actually, but he'll face another challenging defense when the New England Patriots visit next weekend. Kaep remains more of a streaming option if your primary option is on a bye.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick throws for 398 yards

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 22:14:07 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick completed 24 of his 39 pass attempts for 398 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Week 9 game against the New Orleans Saints. He also ran five times for 23 yards.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't all great, as Kaepernick did lose a fumble. He entered with 330 passing yards and two touchdowns in his previous two starts combined, but this line wasn't terribly surprising considering the New Orleans Saints have a terrible pass defense. If Kaep is able to replicate this production in Arizona in Week 10 against a good defense then he can be trusted in fantasy leagues again.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick to start after bye

Tue, 25 Oct 2016 23:10:38 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick will remain the team's starter in Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints, according to head coach Chip Kelly. The team is off this week.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has made a handful of splash plays in his two starts but hasn't produced with any consistency. Unless you're in a league that starts two QBs or are completely desperate at the position there's no reason to have Kaepernick on roster.

49ers | So-so game for Colin Kaepernick

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 21:58:02 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick completed 16 of his 34 pass attempts for 143 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 7 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He rushed nine times for a team-high 84 yards.

Fantasy Tip: The 49ers got off to a solid start with 14 points in the first quarter, but managed just three in the final three quarters. Kaepernick hasn't provided a big shot in the arm for the offense or fantasy owners, and he is only worth rostering in the deepest of leagues and those formats which start two quarterbacks. The 49ers are off in Week 8.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick still starter

Mon, 17 Oct 2016 12:32:57 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick will remain the starting quarterback in Week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to head coach Chip Kelly.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick was OK in his first start of the season. What makes him attractive from a fantasy standpoint is his running ability. He led the 49ers with 66 rushing yards last week. The matchup is decent, but he is best used as a cheap play in daily formats in order to spend up at other positions.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick has decent outing

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 13:18:51 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick went 13-for-29 for 187 yards and one touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in Week 6. He also rushed for 66 yards on eight carries during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick had some problems completing passes during the game with 16 incompletions but was able to move the ball with his arm and legs. Kaepernick should keep the starting quarterback moving forward and could be a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

49ers | More on Colin Kaepernick deal

Thu, 13 Oct 2016 05:50:51 -0700

Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's revised contract eliminated the injury guarantees for 2017. His 46-man roster bonuses become base salary, and he has a bonus that triggers at 50 percent playtime.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick looks significantly smaller than he did before injuries derailed him, and the Buffalo Bills hit the quarterback often. Durability will be a concern, and he's little more than a second QB in two-QB leagues in Week 6.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick restructures deal

Wed, 12 Oct 2016 14:48:40 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has agreed to a restructured contract that will eliminate the final four years of his contract and make him an unrestricted free agent after the season if he does not pick up the one-year player option, according to sources. Kaepernick's salary for 2016 remains the same, and the 49ers will not be allowed to use the franchise tag if he decides to become a free agent.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick will be the starting quarterback for the 49ers in Week 6 and likely will keep the job if he plays well. Owners may want to see how he performs in Chip Kelly's offense before considering him a fantasy option.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick to start Week 6

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has been named the starter for Week 6 against the Buffalo Bills due to what head coach Chip Kelly called "a football decision". He replaces Blaine Gabbert.

Fantasy Tip: Gabbert has produced some respectable fantasy numbers through five starts thanks to 172 yards and two scores rushing, but he has brutal in reality. Of course, Kaepernick wasn't much better in nine games last year, but this is a move worth making for Kelly, as Kaepernick is a great fit - athletically at least - for the kind of quarterback Kelly built his resume with in the college game. Consider him an inconsistent but potential high-upside QB2 for as long as he keeps the job.

49ers | Update on Colin Kaepernick's contract

Mon, 10 Oct 2016 11:37:30 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is reportedly expected to receive per-week roster bonuses as part of his restructured deal, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: This is just another indication the Niners are leaning toward starting Kaepernick over Blaine Gabbert in Week 6 and likely proof that Kaepernick wasn't starting earlier based on the large guarantees in his initial contract. Expect Kaep to be running the show against the Buffalo Bills in Week 6, although he'll be a fantasy QB2 at best for that matchup.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick restructuring deal?

Fri, 07 Oct 2016 21:00:23 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is working on a restructured deal that would alleviate concerns regarding injury guarantees in his contract, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Fantasy Tip: By eliminating the injury guarantees, the 49ers may be more likely to play Kaepernick this season. Even if he plays, there is no guarantee he will be productive, so he is nothing more than speculative stash at this point.

49ers | Blaine Gabbert could be benched

Fri, 07 Oct 2016 05:39:17 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert's starting job will be evaluated after the Week 5 loss, according to head coach Chip Kelly. Kelly emphatically said Gabbert has performed better than QB Colin Kaepernick in practice, which is why Gabbert has started.

Fantasy Tip: Neither quarterback is worth owning in fantasy unless you're in a two-QB league.
