Cowboys | DeMarco Murray makes NFL history

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 18:26:22 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is the first played in NFL history with over 100 rushing yards in each of his first seven games to begin a season, surpassing Hall of Fame RB Jim Brown.

Fantasy Tip: Murray left the game briefly to have his ankle re-taped, but obviously the injury wasn't a hindrance. He has been unreal for fantasy owners in seasonal leagues, and even with a high price in FantasyScore he is worth using week in and week out.

Cowboys | Tyler Clutts earning roster spot

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 20:39:12 -0700

Dallas Cowboys FB Tyler Clutts is earning his roster spot with the team. He is still averaging just nine snaps per game, but he played a season-high 14 snaps in Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks. In that game, he had a key block on a 25-yard run by RB DeMarco Murray in the fourth quarter, and Murray's 15-yard touchdown run two plays later. He also had a good block in a crucial situation in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Clutts, himself, does not have fantasy appeal, but Murray's fantasy value certainly is helped by the solid blocking of the back. Should Clutts go down to injury, we might see a decrease in Murray's production.

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 12:23:02 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (illness) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 17, and is listed as probable for Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: Murray has a hefty price tag on FantasyScore at $7,900 this week but has shown that he is one of the top fantasy running backs, so owners should consider using him if they are willing to spend the money.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray practices in full

Thu, 16 Oct 2014 13:09:38 -0700

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (illness) returned to a full practice Thursday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is the highest priced running back for a reason at FantasyScore. He's the league's leading rusher, and the Cowboys haven't slowed down his workload in recent weeks despite saying they would. Even if he receives fewer touches, he should be able to do plenty of damage against the New York Giants in Week 7.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (illness) is participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Murray appears to be on track to play in Week 7. Owners would have to spend $7,900 on Murray at FantasyScore this week, but he may be worth that price since he has been a consistent producer in fantasy leagues.

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 09:37:36 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (illness) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 15, because he is believed to be sick.

Fantasy Tip: Murray should be ready to play in Week 7 unless the illness is serious. Murray is one of the most expensive running backs on FantasyScore at $7,900, but has shown that he can produce the numbers owners are looking for each week.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray not worried

Tue, 14 Oct 2014 18:14:34 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray said he is not concerned about his heavy workload this year and isn't letting it affect the way he runs.

Fantasy Tip: Murray has been one of the steadiest players at any position this year, and he should have another big game in Week 7 when the Cowboys face a New York Giants defense that just allowed the Eagles to run for more than 200 yards. Murray will take up 15.8% of the cap ($7,900) at FantasyScore, and he makes a great high-priced option to build a lineup around.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray contract talks begin

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 13:17:10 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray has started preliminary talks on a contract extension with the team. He is entering the final year of his four-year deal, and his base salary for this season is $1.3 million. The Cowboys could decide to put the transition tag on him.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys will do everything in their power to keep Murray around long term. He's the leading rusher heading into Week 6 and should be started in all formats, although his matchup against the Seattle Seahawks this weekend is a tough one on the road.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray's workload to decrease?

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 14:38:58 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is likely to have his workload lessened by head coach Jason Garrett to preserve him for the long season. Murray is currently on pace to tie Larry Johnson's single-season record for carries with 416. Murray has run the ball 130 times for 670 yards in the team's first five games of the season. He carried a career-high 31 times for 136 yards in Week 5. Murray has had at least 22 carries in the five games, which is the most he's had in any five-game span in his career.

"DeMarco was out there and we think that's probably too many carries in the game, week in and week out," Garrett said. "He ended up with 31 so we'd like to get that number lower. We'd really just like to get the other guys an opportunity. I don't see any wear and tear in DeMarco but having said that, we want to make sure we create a rotation and we'll focus on doing that in the next few weeks." Murray has never had more than 217 carries in a season. RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar have combined for 22 carries and 88 yards.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't discourage you from using Murray in your daily lineups at FantasyScore. He has been the most productive back in fantasy football, and that shouldn't change drastically with fewer touches.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray in rare company

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 14:56:21 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray carried 31 times for 136 yards in the Week 5 game against the Houston Texans, and he added six receptions for 56 yards. Murray is only the second player in NFL history to start with five or more 100 yard rushing games to start the season. Former Buffalo Bills RB O.J. Simpson also accomplished the feat in 1973 and 1975.

Cowboys | Unlikely to limit DeMarco Murray

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 05:43:43 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is unlikely to have his workload limited, in the opinion of beat writer Todd Archer. Archer believes the team will pick and choose their spots. If they have a big lead or are down by a wide margin, he'll be rested.

Fantasy Tip: Murray ($7,900; 15.8% of your cap) is the top-priced running back on FantasyScore this week and is a must-start universally right now.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray could get new deal

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 10:20:17 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray could sign a contract extension during the season if he and the team could agree to terms. No extension is imminent at this time.

Fantasy Tip: Murray has been one of the top running backs in the league this season and should continue to get his work. Murray is the most expensive running back on FantasyScore this week at $7,900, but should be a fine option for owners willing to pay that price.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray avoiding contact

Tue, 30 Sep 2014 11:47:47 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray has rushed for 327 yards before contact this year.

Fantasy Tip: While Murray is having a huge year, that stat also shows just how good the offensive line has been for the Cowboys in the early part of the season.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray with heavy workload

Tue, 30 Sep 2014 06:22:37 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray has 108 touches through four games. The team may try to taper his usage back in the coming weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is arguably the most valuable fantasy player right now. His $7,900 price tag (15.8% of your cap) on FantasyScore is cumbersome. You have to wonder how much you can profit at that price, but he's a must-start in all leagues.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray looking to protect ball

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 15:03:35 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray will return to the ball-carrying style he used in his first three seasons with the team when he lost just three fumbles. Murray has already fumbled twice in the first two games of this season while carrying the ball with his left hand. "You definitely make more plays when the ball is in your outside hand," Murray said, "(but) just got to be smart about it and see what happens. Can't overthink it, so I'm not worried about it." Murray rushed a career-high 29 times against the Tennessee Titans in Week 2, and his 51 carries are the most in a two-game span in his career.

Fantasy Tip: One has to wonder if this will limit his big-play ability, but it's really nothing that should affect his fantasy value. Murray is the most expensive running back at FantasyScore this week ($8,600), making a return on investment tough to come by against the St. Louis Rams.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray contract looming?

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 11:26:40 -0700

Chief operating officer Stephen Jones said the team wouldn't be against giving Murray a new contract and that they desire to keep him in Dallas long-term, adding that Murray has increased that desire with his play so far this season.

Fantasy Tip: So far, Murray has proven that last season was not a fluke. He's a legitimate RB1 through the rest of the season and is probably worth any price on FantasyScore.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray goes off

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 07:47:33 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray had 29 carries for 167 yards and a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Murray should be a great RB1 option in Week 3 against the St. Louis Rams.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray not focused on stats

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 09:55:46 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray said he is only focused on getting better, and not on his stats. "Well, I'm focused on getting better right now," Murray said. "I'm not worried about individual accolades. I'm trying to get better every day and help this team out. Once the preseason is over I'll sit down and talk about it with myself team goal as well as individual."

Fantasy Tip: The main concern with Murray is health, but he is a solid RB1 in all formats heading into the 2014 season.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray to lead committee?

Wed, 13 Aug 2014 11:06:46 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is expected to receive most of the carries this season, but other running backs could also receive some snaps as part of a committee at running back, according to Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is entering the season as the starter but does come with an injury risk. He has never played 16 games in any of his three seasons with the Cowboys. Murray probably will be a starter in most fantasy leagues, but owners should have other strong running backs on their roster in case he suffers an injury during the season.

Tue, 12 Aug 2014 16:22:32 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray looks ready for another 1,000-yard season, as he has been strong and decisive in training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is one of the few running backs in the NFL these days that isn't in some sort of timeshare in the backfield. He's an all-purpose back that is a definite RB1 when he can stay on the field.

Thu, 07 Aug 2014 09:13:08 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray and TE Jason Witten are not expected to play in the first preseason game, according to a source.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray recently said he wants to play in Dallas "forever." Murray is entering the final year of his contract. The team is not yet in talks with Murray's agent on a new deal.

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan recently said on 105.3 The Fan KRLD-FM that Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray and the running game will be the strength of the offense this season.

Fantasy Tip: Murray's 2013 campaign has him in RB1 territory heading into the 2014 draft season. An increased workload is encouraging, but there is also greater chance for injury. Murray is already an injury risk, having missed games in both of the past two seasons.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray's role to expand

Tue, 03 Dec 2013 18:21:03 -0800

The Dallas Cowboys plan to ride RB DeMarco Murray as much as they can after losing RB Lance Dunbar (knee). "DeMarco Murray is our lead back, has been our lead back all year long, has done an excellent job for us, did a really good job in the game the other day again," head coach Jason Garrett said Tuesday, Dec. 3. "He'll be the lead dog. The other guys, (RBs Joseph Randle and Phillip Tanner) will have to step up if they have an opportunity if DeMarco can't go."

Fantasy Tip: If you're a Murray fantasy owner, this is music to your ears. Randle and Tanner are not real threats to push their way into a timeshare with Murray, so he will see a bulk of the carries in a league where in this day and age teams are using a two-back system. Over his past three games, Murray has 238 rushing yards and four touchdowns, and he has eight receptions for 79 yards over his past two outings.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (knee) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Murray appears to be fully healed from his knee ailment, and he said he "felt fine" in Week 9. The disappointing side: Murray ran just four times for 33 yards, and the Cowboys remain heavily unbalance on offense in favor of the pass. Murray should be in your lineup as an RB2.

Mon, 04 Nov 2013 09:23:38 -0800

The Dallas Cowboys and QB Tony Romo threw the ball 52 times in their Week 9 win over the Minnesota Vikings and ran the ball just nine times. It's the first time Romo has won a game when he's thrown over 50 passes in a game since 2007.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys' offense remains uneven in terms of play calling. Perhaps they didn't want to overwork DeMarco Murray (knee) in his first game back.
