Bills | Charles Clay quiet in road loss

Sun, 19 Nov 2017 19:58:31 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay posted three receptions for 27 yards on four targets in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: Clay is slowly working his way back into shape after missing a huge chunk of the season due to injury. He has TE1 ability when he is 100 percent, but suspect quarterback play and rust makes him more of a TE2 right now.

Bills | Charles Clay will be in uniform

Sun, 19 Nov 2017 11:39:00 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) is officially active for the team's Week 11 game.

Fantasy Tip: Clay have been dealing with the knee injury for most of the season but will be able to play this week. He could be a popular target for new quarterback Nathan Peterman but should only be considered a low-end No. 1 tight end in deeper leagues.

Bills | Charles Clay could play Sunday

Sun, 19 Nov 2017 05:33:28 -0800

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott is hopeful that TE Charles Clay (knee) will be able to play in Week 11's game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: Clay was listed as questionable on the injury report after participating in two out of three practice sessions during the week on a limited basis. He only had two receptions for 13 yards in his return from knee surgery versus the New Orleans Saints in Week 10 and should be viewed as no better than a low-end TE1 because of the team's quarterback situation.

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 17, and is listed as questionable for Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Clay has been dealing with the injury for most of the season but probably will be in uniform for Week 11. He could have a big role in the passing game because of the team's new quarterback and could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in fantasy leagues.

Bills | Charles Clay limited

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 12:37:09 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Nov. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Clay appears to have a good chance to play in the team's Week 11 game despite the injury. He was limited to 13 yards in the Week 10 game but he was returning after missing a month because of knee surgery. He should be more involved in the passing game this week but may only be a low-end No. 1 tight end because the team is starting a new quarterback.

Wed, 15 Nov 2017 15:12:02 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Clay was able to return from a long-term knee injury in Week 10, but he wasn't terribly busy as he eased back in. His fantasy outlook is rather murky with Nathan Peterman taking over under center in Buffalo.

Bills | Charles Clay quiet in his return

Sun, 12 Nov 2017 17:10:48 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) returned to the lineup in Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints, but he managed just two grabs for 13 yards on his three targets.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that he didn't aggravate his injury, but the bad news is he received a rather quick hook in the second half with the game getting out of hand. The team didn't want to risk losing him again, so Nick O'Leary saw plenty of second-half snaps. In fact, O'Leary scored the team's only TD.

Bills | Charles Clay will be in uniform

Sun, 12 Nov 2017 08:56:47 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) is officially active for the team's Week 10 game.

Fantasy Tip: Clay will return to the lineup after missing several games because of knee injury. He could be eased back into the offense but should have a decent amount of targets against the New Orleans Saints. He could be a low-end No. 1 tight end or a bye-week replacement in deeper leagues.

Bills | Charles Clay expected to play

Sun, 12 Nov 2017 05:28:58 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) is likely to play in Week 10's game against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Clay has been sidelined for one month following arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus and sprained medial collateral ligament. He was a limited participant in all three practice sessions during the week but should be viewed as a risky fantasy option due to the unfavorable matchup and long layoff.

Fri, 10 Nov 2017 07:13:28 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) will be limited in practice Friday, Nov. 10, and he's questionable for Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: Clay is expected to play against the New Orleans Saints this week. However, the matchup and the layoff, make him an unattractive starter in fantasy this week.

Bills | Limited practice for Charles Clay

Thu, 09 Nov 2017 12:50:51 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Clay is expected to return to the gridiron this week and helps solidify what is now a respectable Buffalo receiving group. Kelvin Benjamin and Jordan Matthews will take looks away from Clay, naturally, but don't be surprised if Clay remains Tyrod Taylor's go-to pass-catcher. He has low-end TE1 to high-end TE2 appeal in his return.

Bills | Charles Clay expected to play

Wed, 08 Nov 2017 22:00:09 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) is expected to play in Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Clay, who has missed the last three games, would be returning to a different passing game than the one he left thanks to the addition of Kelvin Benjamin. Still, Clay has always been a reliable option for Tyrod Taylor and should offer low-end TE1 value assuming there are no setbacks between now and Sunday.

Bills | Charles Clay gets in limited practice

Wed, 08 Nov 2017 09:41:29 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) was able to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Fantasy Tip: It's the kind of progress fantasy owners want to see, as reports began to surface late last week Clay was "on track" to return in Week 10. He has been out since getting his knee scoped following his Week 5 injury. Clay won't return to the same top-target status he had in Buffalo prior to the injury with Kelvin Benjamin around, but he should be involved enough to remain a low-end TE1 in fantasy.

Bills | Charles Clay out of practice Monday

Mon, 06 Nov 2017 08:44:58 -0800

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) is out of practice Monday, Nov. 6.

Fantasy Tip: He's allegedly on track to return in Week 10, and there is plenty of time for that to happen. However, with Kelvin Benjamin expected to enter the fold this week, Clay has little fantasy upside.

Bills | Charles Clay due back in Week 10

Fri, 03 Nov 2017 10:31:13 -0700

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) is "on track" to return after missing the last three games with a knee injury he suffered in Week 5, according to WGR Sports Radio 550's Sal Capaccio.

Fantasy Tip: Clay reportedly sprained his MCL in addition to tearing his meniscus, but recent reports had him making progress and this reports seem to confirm he is healing on schedule following his knee scope. While Clay won't be quite the focal point of the offense he was prior to his injury following the trade for Kelvin Benjamin, he should remain in the low-end TE1 discussion as one of Tyrod Taylor's most trusted targets.

Tue, 31 Oct 2017 15:30:06 -0700

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) missed practice Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Clay is not expected to play this week, especially since the Bills are on a short week and play Thursday night. Nick O'Leary will continue to start in Clay's place in the meantime, but he remains a backup fantasy tight end.

Bills | Charles Clay unlikely to go Week 9

Tue, 31 Oct 2017 09:27:15 -0700

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) is "going to have a hard time making it" into the lineup for Week 9 against the New York Jets, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

Fantasy Tip: Buffalo plays on Thursday this week, so a return from a multi-week injury made him a longshot to return for this contest. However, it does imply he must be getting close. Some reports claimed the team is holding out hope for Week 10, when the Bills host the New Orleans Saints. It appears there's a good chance he'll be listed as questionable for that game. Nick O'Leary will start again this week and is a low-end, bye-week option.

Mon, 30 Oct 2017 12:10:00 -0700

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) is making progress but will not participate in practice Monday, Oct. 30, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

Fantasy Tip: Clay has missed the last two weeks because of his knee injury and probably is unlikely to play in Week 9 since the team plays on Thursday Night Football. Nick O'Leary will continue to start at tight end while Clay is sidelined but is not a great fantasy option.

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) was spotted stretching at practice Friday, Oct. 27, but has been ruled for Week 8 against the Oakland Raiders.

Bills | Charles Clay on the sidelines

Wed, 25 Oct 2017 13:15:56 -0700

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) missed practice Wednesday, Oct. 25, due to his knee injury.

Fantasy Tip: Originally when he suffered his injury in Week 5 he was given a "week to week" timetable. It's uncertain if or when he'll be able to practice in full again after having an arthroscopy, but wait to see him officially return for at least one game and make it through without any setbacks before trusting him again for fantasy purposes. That may or may not be this season. Nick O'Leary will continue to fill in while Clay is laid up.

Sat, 21 Oct 2017 06:10:39 -0700

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott is optimistic that TE Charles Clay (knee) could resume playing before the end of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Clay is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus and sprained medial collateral ligament suffered in Week 5's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Nick O'Leary will continue to start in place of Clay but fantasy owners should be able to find better options.

Bills | Charles Clay week-to-week

Mon, 16 Oct 2017 12:11:04 -0700

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) is considered week-to-week because of his knee injury.

Fantasy Tip: Nick O'Leary probably will take over as the starting tight end while Clay is sidelined. He played well in Week 5 when he recorded five catches and 54 yards after taking over for Clay. Owners in all leagues should be able to find better options to use and can avoid O'Leary.

Bills | Charles Clay out 'multiple weeks'

Mon, 09 Oct 2017 10:28:02 -0700

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Monday, Oct. 9, and will miss multiple weeks with a torn meniscus and sprained MCL, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

Fantasy Tip: It's a punch to the gut for a Buffalo offense already bereft of playmakers in the passing game, as Jordan Matthews is out with a thumb injury and Zay Jones struggling to get anything going as a rookie. The Bills do have a well-timed bye in Week 6, but Clay is obviously going to need more time in that. Nick O'Leary led the team with 54 yards receiving in Week 5 and will be considered the favorite to fill in for Clay during his absence. He's worth an add for all owners in need of a slight boost at tight end.

Bills | Charles Clay might have ACL injury

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 18:33:25 -0700

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) suffered at least a sprained medial collateral ligament injury in Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and there is a worry he might have a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament, too.

Fantasy Tip: With Clay, the team's most explosive receiver, the wideouts will have to step up. They hadn't been doing so with Jordan Matthews down for at least a month due to thumb surgery. Nick O'Leary posted five grabs for 54 yards with Clay sidelined and could be the next guy up when play resumes for the Bills in Week 7 after the bye.

Bills | Charles Clay will not return

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 12:13:30 -0700

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) will not return to the team's Week 5 game.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Clay may have a serious injury, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. Nick O'Leary likely will start if Clay misses time but should only be considered a No. 2 tight end in deeper leagues.

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 10:55:35 -0700

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) was carted off the field after suffering a knee injury during the team's Week 5 game.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation to determine the severity of Clay's injury. He has been a solid option for the Bills over the last few weeks but his status is uncertain. Nick O'Leary probably would take over as the starting tight end but would not have a lot of fantasy value.

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 14:58:09 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Clay didn't show any ill effects of the knee injury which had him on the injury report earlier in the week. Thu, 21 Sep 2017 12:18:43 -0700

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Clay has been targeted 12 times over the first two games of the season and has recorded seven catches, 76 yards and one touchdown during that span. He has become a solid part of the passing game but may not be a great fantasy option this week against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Clay was listed last week with a shoulder injury early in the week and he was able to play. So far he has seven grabs for 76 yards and a touchdown on the season. When healthy he can be a low-end TE1 when the fantasy matchup is favorable.
