Lions | Alex Henery released

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 09:43:56 -0700

Detroit Lions PK Alex Henery was released Monday, Oct. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Expect the Lions to sign another kicker to replace Henery within the next day. Matt Prater, who was released by the Denver Broncos last week, could be an option.

Lions | Tough day for Alex Henery

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 16:11:49 -0700

Detroit Lions PK Alex Henery misfired on three field goal attempts in the Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills, but he was able to tack on a pair of extra points.

Fantasy Tip: Henery is already the second kicker for the team this season, as the woes for the Lions continue in the kicking game. Fantasy owners need to stay far away. Twitter was blowing up Sunday, speculating that the Lions should look into free-agent Matt Prater to solve their problems.

Lions | Matt Prater an option?

Sat, 04 Oct 2014 23:30:56 -0700

Although the Detroit Lions just signed free-agent PK Alex Henery (Eagles), the team may look at free-agent PK Matt Prater (Broncos) if Henery falters. Henery missed a 52-yard field goal last week against the New York Jets but made one from 51 yards out.

Lions | Alex Henery misfires on long FG

Sun, 28 Sep 2014 13:50:39 -0700

Detroit Lions PK Alex Henery converted one of his two field goal attempts while tacking on three extra points in the Week 4 win against the New York Jets. His successful kick was from 51 yards, and his missed field goal was wide right from 52 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Henery was signed this week to replace the ineffective Nate Freese, and the former Eagles kicker did a good job. He'll be kicking for a high-octane offense, and he has re-emerged as a Top 15 fantasy option as a result.

Lions | Nate Freese waived

Mon, 22 Sep 2014 09:41:00 -0700

Detroit Lions PK Nate Freese was waived Monday, Sept. 22, and the team signed free-agent PK Alex Henery (Eagles) to an undisclosed deal to take his place. Freese made just three of seven field goal tries this year, with all four misses coming on kicks from 40 yards or more.

Fantasy Tip: Henery may be a cheap option to start out for the Lions, and he's worth a look this weekend at FantasyScore against the New York Jets.

Lions | Alex Henery coming aboard

Mon, 22 Sep 2014 08:21:08 -0700

Detroit Lions PK Nate Freese appears to have lost his job, and the team plans to sign free-agent PK Alex Henery Monday, Sept. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Henery will have some low-end PK value due to the offense's explosive ability. Look to acquire him if you had Freese or have to cover a buy week.

Eagles | Alex Henery likely to be cut

Fri, 29 Aug 2014 17:23:55 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles PK Alex Henery is expected to be cut, as two individuals with knowledge of the situation said Friday, Aug. 29, that PK Cody Parkey has landed a spot on the 53-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: The move is not yet official, but if Henery is out of a job in Philly, he is likely to land on his feet elsewhere. Still, for fantasy purposes, avoid him at all costs. If you already drafted Henery, dump him and grab Parkey, who will kick for a high-octane offense.

Eagles | New kicker possible?

Sun, 29 Jun 2014 23:38:59 -0700

Because PKs Alex Henery and Carey Spear are struggling, it is possible the team could bring in a new kicker. Henery can hit field goals but has no distance on kickoffs, while Spear is just the opposite. Both specialists could be unseated by a free agent signing like PK Rob Bironas (Titans).

Eagles | Alex Henery struggling

Mon, 16 Jun 2014 14:37:56 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles PK Alex Henery has to improve his kickoffs and long field goals, according to special teams coach Dave Fipp. Henery's kickoffs in particular have not been up to par.

Fantasy Tip: There is no cause for concern at this point in the offseason. Henery is a borderline starting kicker attached to a high-powered offense.

Eagles | May take another look at Alex Henery

Mon, 06 Jan 2014 02:21:14 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles PK Alex Henery finished the 2013 season having converted 82.6 percent of his field-goal attempts, a career low in three seasons in Philadelphia. After three full seasons, Henery has converted just 2-for-5 attempts from 50 yards or beyond. At the end of the game Saturday, Jan. 4, coach Chip Kelly was reluctant to talk about the future of his kicker but admitted his dissatisfaction with how Henery hit kickoffs during the loss. "We'll address that moving forward," Kelly said after Saturday's loss. "We're not playing a game tomorrow."

But from a kicking standpoint, I'm pretty confident in him."
