Giants | Minimal impact from Paul Perkins?

Thu, 12 May 2016 14:05:17 -0700

New York Giants rookie RB Paul Perkins isn't expected to have much of an impact in his rookie season, in the opinion of Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. Vacchiano anticipates RB Andre Williams to have the first shot at being the short-yardage running back and Jennings' backup, with RB Shane Vereen reprising his pass-catching and third-down role.

Fantasy Tip: Rashad Jennings will start, but the hype train on Perkins may need to hit the brakes a little bit before the season starts. Perkins will need to work his way up to take playing time away from Jennings, Williams and Vereen, so don't draft him as more than a speculative RB5 in traditional leagues.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa, Shane Vereen do little

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 22:34:24 -0800

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa carried three times for 10 yards in the Week 14 game against the Miami Dolphins Monday, Dec. 14, and he added a six-yard catch. RB Shane Vereen had one grab for 10 yards and one carry for no gain. RB Andre Williams ran three times for just three yards.

Fantasy Tip: Darkwa appears to slowly (and unofficially) have jumped Vereen and Williams on the depth chart for the second spot on the running backs pecking order. Still, as long as Rashad Jennings is healthy none of the trio is worth a look in most fantasy formats.

Giants | NYG struggle to run the ball

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 19:50:58 -0800

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa ran eight times for a team-high 23 yards in the Week 13 game against the New York Jets, and he had a 10-yard catch. RB Andre Williams rushed six times for 22 yards, while RB Rashad Jennings had five totes for 14 yards and a 19-yard catch. RB Shane Vereen also had four runs for 13 yards and two grabs for seven yards.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants wanted to run the ball more effectively in Week 13, but not one piece of the four-player monster really seemed to be able to build any momentum. The Giants backfield is a fantasy nightmare, so stay away.

Giants | Shane Vereen totals 63 yards, TD

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 19:06:56 -0800

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen ran just two times for three yards in the Week 8 game against the New Orleans Saints, but he added eight receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) can be a decent low-end RB2 or flex FantasyScore option when facing a team with a poor passing defense, as that's where Vereen is most dangerous.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa to see more touches?

Mon, 26 Oct 2015 09:51:31 -0700

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa had played on just two offensive snaps heading into Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, but he was the leading rusher in the preseason by averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo was non-committal if Darkwa would see more work behind RBs Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen and Andre Williams.

Fantasy Tip: That question was answered: Darkwa had eight carries for 48 yards and a touchdown against Dallas. While he could continue to be mixed in, the G-Men just have too many mouths to feed for Darkwa to continue to be anything more than a deep sleeper option for FantasyScore users.

Giants | Shane Vereen disappears on MNF

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 22:19:38 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen carried four times for zero yards in Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, Oct. 19, and he had one reception for six yards. He was targeted four times.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) had a strong game in Week 5, but he was nearly non-existent in this one. FantasyScore players should avoid Vereen until he starts to produce much more consistently.

Giants | Shane Vereen could have bigger role

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 07:02:44 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen could have a bigger role in the passing game if WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) or WR Rueben Randle (hamstring) are unable to go Monday, Oct. 19, against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) could be a nice flex play on FantasyScore this week.

Giants | Shane Vereen busy in pass game

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 22:12:38 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen carried five times for 24 yards in the Week 5 game against the San Francisco 49ers and he added eight receptions for 86 yards with a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) was busy in the pass game in the second half, especially once Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle each checked out due to hamstring injuries. Vereen could be a valuable FantasyScore option going forward if one or both receivers are limited or forced to miss time.

Giants | Shane Vereen quiet again

Mon, 05 Oct 2015 13:45:11 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen was held without a catch for the second straight week against the Buffalo Bills Sunday, Oct. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen has been one of the most prolific pass-catching running backs over the past few years. He was heavily involved in New York's passing game the first two weeks, catching 12 passes combined. Since then, he has zero catches and has only rushed for 44 yards. It's probably best to bench Vereen, even in PPR leagues, until he sees more work.

Giants | Shane Vereen will line up wide

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 06:37:47 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen will likely be used to line up at wide receiver in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills. "Yeah, it's all hands on deck. We'll use him, anybody we can. We need 11. So we'll play with 11 healthy bodies if that's all we have," offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo said. "The guys that can catch the ball the best we'll play with on the perimeter."

Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) could come at a good value on FantasyScore, but the risk is that he doesn't run the ball as much. The Giants are extremely thin at receiver and tight end, and Vereen could serve as their pseudo-WR3.

Giants | Shane Vereen's streak ends

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 08:34:57 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen did not catch a pass Thursday night against the New York Giants. It was the first time since Week 2 of last season that Vereen had not caught a pass, including the postseason. He ran for 23 yards on six carries in a 32-21 win over the Washington Redskins, but was held without a reception on three targets.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen's value lies mainly within the passing game, but Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle were the highlights in that department last night. Week 3 could end up as one of Vereen's least productive weeks of the season, so be patient with him, especially in PPR leagues.

Giants | Shane Vereen has seven touches

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 22:36:04 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen rushed three times for 14 yards and he had four receptions for a team-high 46 yards in the Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys in his regular season team debut.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has the best hands of all the tailbacks on the team, and he is worth a look as a low-end RB2 or flex option to save salary in FantasyScore.

Giants | Shane Vereen providing versatility

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 14:42:40 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen gives the Giants someone who can line up anywhere on any play. QB Eli Manning has frequently targeted Vereen on check-down passes, but New York will also have plays designed specifically for Vereen, according to Kimberly Jones of the NFL Network.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen won't see as much playing time as he wants to with Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams also in the mix. His role with the Giants could be similar to the one he had in New England. Expect him to be in mainly on passing downs. He's in the RB3 discussion in PPR leagues heading into drafts.

Giants | Top two Giants RBs working with starters

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 13:13:34 -0700

New York Giants RBs Rashad Jennings and Shane Vereen received snaps with the first-team offense during practice Friday, Aug. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings probably will receive a majority of the carries this season with Vereen more involved in the passing game. Jennings could be a middle-round option in most leagues if he wins the starting job. Vereen likely will have more value in point-per-reception leagues but be an option in the late rounds of most leagues.

Giants | Rashad Jennings working with twos

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 05:22:49 -0700

New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings has seen quite a bit of second-team repetitions in camp with RB Shane Vereen and RB Andre Williams seeing most with the first team.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings should still be a factor, but the receiving back and the ground-and-pounder seeing more starter reps is concerning. Jennings is an RB3 in fantasy, while Vereen is a high-end RB2 in PPR leagues. Williams is a low-end RB4 right now.

Giants | Shane Vereen will pass protect

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 11:43:11 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen is expected to help the Giants' passing game by protecting the quarterback in addition to catching the ball.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen's specialty is catching the football, but the Giants have also been impressed with his ability to pass protect. If he can prove that he's capable of successfully protecting the quarterback, he could see an uptick in playing time, which could increase his fantasy value. Consider him a low-end RB2 in PPR leagues.

Giants | RB roles TBD for Giants

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 15:26:10 -0700

New York Giants RBs Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen and Andre Williams will use training camp to determine their roles in the offense, according to running backs coach Craig Johnson. "I think that as we get closer to games and time for the opener, we will find out more role defining roles for them," Johnson said. "Right now, I try to put them in every situation so I can see what they can do. I try not to say, for instance, 'Shane is only going to run the ball.' I want to see if Shane can catch the ball. I know he can, but I want to see if he can under pressure situations and vice versa. I do that for all of our guys because that way you can kind of find out what they all can do."

Fantasy Tip: Jennings likely will receive most of the carries this season and may have the most fantasy value among the running backs. Vereen probably will be more valuable in point-per-reception leagues because of his ability to catch the ball. All three running backs should be selected in drafts this season since they will all receive playing time.

Giants | Shane Vereen had success in 2014

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 15:11:45 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen rushed for at least five yards in nearly 38% of his runs last season, which was 10th best in the NFL. Vereen also had the highest percentage (25.5%) of runs in the NFL that resulted in zero yards or negative yards.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen likely will be more involved in the passing game this season and could see some carries as well. Vereen may be more valuable in point-per-reception leagues but should be a middle-round option in most leagues this season.

Giants | Shane Vereen sees time in red zone

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 09:13:44 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen received snaps in the red zone during offseason workouts and was used all over the field as a receiver out of the backfield.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen likely will not receive regular carries but should have a solid role in the offense as a receiver in the passing game. Vereen will have more value in point-per-reception leagues, but he could be a middle-round option in most leagues.

Giants | Rashad Jennings to be most used RB?

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 10:53:28 -0700

New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings is still expected to lead the Giants in touches, according to ESPN.com's Dan Graziano, despite the acquisition of RB Shane Vereen this offseason. Graziano said the Giants will give Jennings the ball as long as he can stay healthy.

Fantasy Tip: The big question for Jennings is if he can stay healthy. If he can, then he probably will end up leading New York's running backs in snaps. Vereen's role will primarily be in the passing game, while Williams will likely spot Jennings on running downs and perhaps in goal-line situations. Jennings is in low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 territory. Vereen has RB3 upside in point-per-reception leagues and Williams is more of a handcuff pick incase Jennings does get injured.

Giants | Shane Vereen featured in passing game

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 13:35:06 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen caught pass after pass in organized team activities Monday, June 8, particularly in the red zone.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants' backfield will be crowded this year with Vereen, Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams, but Vereen should see the majority of the work in the passing game out of the backfield. He's proved himself to be a point-per-reception monster and has RB2 upside in leagues with a PPR format.

Giants | Shane Vereen impresses

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 07:28:40 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen has impressed in organized team activities and caught an abundance of passes out of the backfield. He was very busy in the red zone. Vereen figures to be a big part of the offense.

Fantasy Tip: The knock on Vereen is how little he is used in the running game, which hurts his stock in standard formats. However, he's a good RB2 in PPR formats with his elite pass-catching abilities.

Giants | Shane Vereen adds dimension for NY

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 14:13:58 -0700

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen gives the Giants something they didn't have last season -- a receiving threat out of the backfield. "I see him in that regard as a pass receiver out of the backfield," head coach Tom Coughlin said. Coughlin added that Vereen can protect the quarterback and is a capable runner.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Vereen may be used more often than originally thought in New York's offense. The bulk of his fantasy value remains in point-per-reception leagues, though he may not be targeted as much as he was in New England with the Giants' receiving trio of Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle. Still, Vereen has RB2 upside in PPR leagues.

Giants | Shane Vereen expected to sign with Giants

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 09:58:35 -0700

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Shane Vereen is expected to sign with the New York Giants Tuesday, March 10. Terms of the expected contract were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen will likely split time with Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams, but should still see his fair share of passes out of the backfield. He should be considered an RB3 or flex option, with upside in PPR leagues.

Jets | Shane Vereen perks Jets' interest

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 09:18:55 -0700

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Shane Vereen is of interest to the New York Jets if he hits the open market Tuesday, March 10. The Jets have inquired about Vereen already.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen was an inconsistent commodity in 2014, and he was borderline useless most weeks in non-PPR formats. He'll be an RB2 consideration in PPR formats wherever he lands. He'll be a matchup play in non-PPR formats.

Giants | Shane Vereen a target for Giants

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 17:40:53 -0700

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Shane Vereen is receiving significant interest from the New York Giants, because they are looking for a versatile running back.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen likely would share playing time with Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams if he joins the Giants. He likely would be involved in the passing game, but it is not known how many carries he would receive. He probably would be a No. 3 running back or flex option if he signs with New York.

Patriots | Shane Vereen looking for $3.5 million

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 04:11:57 -0800

Free-agent RB Shane Vereen (Patriots) is looking for a contract that will pay $3.5 million per year, not $5 million as previously thought.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen may find some teams interested at that price, especially those starving for some sort of running game. As a previous tip suggested, it's best to wait and see where Vereen lands before judging his fantasy value.

Patriots | Shane Vereen not asking for $5 million

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 09:54:45 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Shane Vereen made it clear that he doesn't expect to make $5 million in 2015, as was previously reported.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen's 2015 fantasy football value will obviously depend on where he's playing. However, he should be worth a roster spot in standard point-per-reception leagues regardless.

Patriots | Shane Vereen hoping for $5 million

Thu, 19 Feb 2015 13:20:06 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Shane Vereen is expecting a contract worth at least $5 million per season, according to a source. Vereen would like to remain with the Patriots, but there have been no indications on whether the sides are close on a new deal.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen will have more value in point-per-reception leagues no matter where he plays. When healthy, he's worth at least low-end RB2 consideration in PPR leagues and is no more than a flex play in standard scoring leagues.

Patriots | Shane Vereen sets Super Bowl record

Mon, 02 Feb 2015 14:07:34 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen set a Super Bowl record Sunday, Feb. 1, for most receptions (11) by a running back in Super Bowl history.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen has proven himself as a top-notch point-per-reception (PPR) running back. He's worthy of No. 2 running back consideration in PPR drafts this offseason. LeGarrette Blount stunts his potential in the running game.

Patriots | Shane Vereen helps in passing game

Sun, 01 Feb 2015 20:19:57 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen had 11 catches for 64 yards and four carries for 13 yards in a 28-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX Sunday, Feb. 1.

Fantasy Tip: New England's refusal to stick with one running back makes any player in the backfield an inconsistent fantasy option, but Vereen's ability to contribute in the passing game helps stabilize his production.

Fri, 26 Dec 2014 14:54:22 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 26, and is listed as questionable for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen was limited throughout the week and could receive limited playing time if he is active for Week 17. Vereen is a risky option to start since the team has its playoff spot clinched.

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 25. The Patriots did not practice Thursday, so this is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen may be one of several offensive players that see limited time during the team's Week 17. Owners on FantasyScore may want to look for a better option to use.

Patriots | Shane Vereen limited in practice

Wed, 24 Dec 2014 14:33:33 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) took part in practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen, , like many other Patriots regulars, could see limited touches or simply be held out since the team has already wrapped up the top seed in the AFC. Check back Friday for a clearer picture on his status.

Patriots | Shane Vereen will play

Sun, 21 Dec 2014 09:04:31 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) is active for the team's Week 16 game.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen could receive more touches since LeGarrette Blount is inactive, but Vereen likely will be more active in the passing game. Vereen costs $4,700 on FantasyScore and could be a flex option for owners.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount, Shane Vereen questionable

Fri, 19 Dec 2014 14:08:59 -0800

New England Patriots RBs LeGarrette Blount (shoulder) and Shane Vereen (ankle) both were limited in practice Friday, Dec. 19, and are questionable for Week 16 against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: The Pats are facing a Jets team whose strength on defense is stopping the run, immediately making Blount ($4,500) and Vereen ($4,700) unattractive FantasyScore options. Add in the uncertainty in New England's backfield and you have two options to avoid for daily rosters.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount, Shane Vereen limited

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 13:54:56 -0800

New England Patriots RBs LeGarrette Blount (shoulder) and Shane Vereen (ankle) were both limited for the second straight day in practice Thursday, Dec. 18.

Fantasy Tip: After Jonas Gray came back into the running back picture last week, it's hard to trust Bill Belichick, Blount ($4,500) or Vereen ($4,700) at FantasyScore. The New York Jets also feature a fairly stingy run defense, making both running backs even less attractive in daily leagues this week.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount, Shane Vereen limited

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 13:20:19 -0800

New England Patriots RBs LeGarrette Blount (shoulder) and Shane Vereen (ankle) were both limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: After having double-digit carries each of the previous three games, Blount ($4,500) had only eight carries in Week 15, as most of the running work came from Jonas Gray. Vereen ($4,700) continues to see his role limited, as well. It's anyone's guess what Bill Belichick will do on a weekly basis, but Blount likely remains your safest play at FantasyScore. However, this week against the New York Jets should be one to especially look to avoid any Pats runners.

Patriots | Shane Vereen active

Sun, 14 Dec 2014 09:11:02 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) is active for the team's Week 15 game.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen likely will not receive many carries this week but should be part of the passing game. Vereen costs $4,900 on FantasyScore, but owners may want to look for a running back that sees more playing time.

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 14:40:07 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 12, and is listed as questionable for Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen has become mainly the receiving option among the running backs and has not received many carries in the last several weeks. Vereen costs $4,900 on FantasyScore, but owners should be able to find better options at running back.

Patriots | Shane Vereen limited again

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 15:27:07 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 11.

Fantasy Tip: While Vereen ($4,900) should be fine to play, and the Miami Dolphins have been terrible against opposing ground games in the last three weeks, we still find it very hard to endorse Vereen for FantasyScore lineups with LeGarrette Blount ($5,300) becoming more of the lead runner in this backfield.

Patriots | Limited practice for Shane Vereen

Wed, 10 Dec 2014 15:37:06 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($4,900) had just one carry and three catches in last week's win. He has taken a back seat to LeGarrette Blount in recent weeks, making him not worth his FantasyScore cost unless he sees more work.

Patriots | Limited practice for Shane Vereen

Thu, 04 Dec 2014 15:27:07 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen's frustrating season continued last week, as he had just three carries for six yards and one catch for 26 yards. Wondering if the Pats will make him part of the game plan usually hasn't been worth the cost at FantasyScore. This week, he'll cost you $5,900, and he doesn't instill confidence, especially since the Bolts have shut down runners that catch the ball out of the backfield recently.

Fri, 28 Nov 2014 15:08:47 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 28, and is listed as questionable for Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen probably has a good chance to play in Week 13 even though he is listed as questionable. Vereen likely will have a bigger impact on the passing game, which helps his value in point-per-reception leagues. Vereen costs $6,400 on FantasyScore and could be a solid option for owners if he plays.

Patriots | Shane Vereen limited

Thu, 27 Nov 2014 15:11:31 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) gets a boon because of FantasyScore's points-per-reception format, but his price is hefty given his minimal production (81 rushing yards, 20 receptions, 168 receiving yards and 1 touchdown) the last four games. There are plenty of backfield options in New England, too.

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen has not done much in the running game lately but has been a part of the passing game. Vereen has a price of $6,200 on FantasyScore and provides additional value in point-per-reception leagues.

Patriots | Shane Vereen plays 62 snaps

Mon, 24 Nov 2014 09:17:34 -0800

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen had a team-high 62 snaps in the team's Week 12 win over the Detroit Lions, but RB LeGarrette Blount had 17 snaps and two touchdowns in his team debut, while RB Brandon Bolden had just two snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen is the safest bet for fantasy football production on the Patriots, especially in PPR leagues like FantasyScore, but the addition of Blount clearly clouds New England's backfield picture, and Bill Belichick can't be predicted on a week-to-week basis.

Patriots | Shane Vereen to play

Sun, 26 Oct 2014 06:38:34 -0700

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (illness) will play Sunday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($6,600; 13.2% of your cap) is a risky play on FantasyScore today because his value is reliant on his receiving numbers. He rushed just 11 times last week against the New York Jets. He could rush more against the Chicago Bears today, but Vereen presents a bigger risk than others in his price range.
