Bills | EJ Manuel, Tyrod Taylor play well

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 07:05:59 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel went 7-for-8 for 170 yards and two touchdowns in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29. QB Tyrod Taylor went 12-for-13 for 122 yards and a rushing touchdown during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel could be back in the competition for the starting job after his performance, but all three quarterbacks played well in the game. The Bills are expected to name a starter in the near future but that player will be no more than a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Bills | Buffalo QBs should play equally

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 12:07:05 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor are expected to play a series or two each Saturday, Aug. 29, versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. Manuel will start.

Fantasy Tip: This could be the last big opportunity for all three quarterbacks to prove they deserve the Bills' starting quarterback job. Cassel has the experience, while Taylor and Manuel both offer more with their running ability, specifically Taylor. Whoever starts should not be a starting fantasy quarterback, however.

Bills | Buffalo to use rotation at QB?

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 11:31:44 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel may each be rotated in with the starting unit Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Joe Buscaglia of WGR Sports Radio 550. All three quarterbacks have received first-team repetitions the last two practices.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor was impressive when he started last week in the Bills' second preseason contest. Taylor gives the Bills more options with the offense, but Cassel has much more experience. Manuel seems to be the third option. None of them are worth starting on your fantasy squad.

Bills | Buffalo could keep three QBs

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 10:38:12 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel could all be on the Bills' final roster, according to head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said there is a high possibility that the Bills could keep all three quarterbacks, adding that Cassel, Taylor and Manuel would all receive playing time in their next preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor has looked the most promising this preseason. He and Cassel seem to be the two favorites to start with Manuel lurking behind. Ryan may not name a starter until the preseason concludes. Whoever starts isn't worth starting as your fantasy quarterback.

Bills | All three Bills QBs seeing starter snaps

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 08:49:57 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel have all received snaps with the first-team offense during team drills Saturday, Aug. 22. Cassel was the first quarterback in the drills.

Fantasy Tip: The Bills may allow this competition to continue until the end of the preseason, but owners should receive some information when the team names a starter for the third preseason game. None of the Bills quarterbacks have much fantasy value and would not be more than a No. 2 quarterback in a deeper league.

Bills | Buffalo may wait on QB decision

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 12:15:52 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel are still competing for the starting quarterback job, but head coach Rex Ryan said the team may not announce the starter until Week 1. "This will probably play out," Ryan said. "Indianapolis might not know who the quarterback is until we play them. We may know, but they may not know."

Fantasy Tip: Cassel and Taylor appear to be the major candidates for the job and the third preseason game should answer some questions. Neither quarterback will be a great fantasy option for owners, so the winner of the job should only be seen as a No. 2 quarterback.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor plays well as starter

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 00:15:02 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor went 7-for-10 for 65 yards as the starting quarterback in the second preseason game Thursday, Aug. 20. Taylor also rushed for 41 yards on four carries. The team scored only three points during Taylor's drives.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor's performance should help him in his fight for the starting quarterback job, but he will need to continue to produce. Taylor probably will not be a great option in fantasy leagues and probably will not be more than a No. 2 quarterback.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor could win starting job

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 13:00:22 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor has a chance to win the starting quarterback job if he plays well in the second preseason game, in the opinion of NFL Network's Albert Breer.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor is one of three candidates for the starting job and a solid performance will help his cause. Taylor would not be a great fantasy option if he wins the job and probably would only be a weak No. 2 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Bills | EJ Manuel appears out of race

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 05:42:03 -0700

Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel appears to be out of the competition for starting quarterback with QB Matt Cassel and QB Tyrod Taylor. Cassel has shown good decision-making and command on offense. Taylor has had some accuracy issues.

Fantasy Tip: Whichever quarterback comes out as the starter is probably a weak QB2 in two-quarterback leagues.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor working with starters

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 08:06:58 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor is working with the first-team offense during practice Sunday, Aug. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor will be starting the second preseason game and is still in the running for the starting quarterback job. Taylor has not received a lot of playing time since he entered the NFL and probably would not be a great fantasy option.

Bills | EJ Manuel falling behind

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 18:36:55 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel has fallen behind QB Matt Cassel and QB Tyrod Taylor in the battle for the starting quarterback job because of poor accuracy.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, it sounds like Cassel or Taylor will start for the Bills in Week 1, but regardless of who is under center for Buffalo, don't expect them to provide much help for fantasy teams.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor to start against Cleveland

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 20:02:27 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor will start against the Cleveland Browns in the preseason, head coach Rex Ryan said Friday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor may actually have the most fantasy value if he can win the starting job because of his scrambling ability. That being said, he wouldn't be worth owning outside of deep, two-quarterback leagues.

Bills | Rex Ryan to evaluate QBs in first 2 games

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 17:18:03 -0700

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said Tuesday, Aug. 11, the coaching staff will be evaluating the quarterbacks through the first two preseason games. QB Tyrod Taylor is expected to follow QB Matt Cassel Friday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: EJ Manuel has seemingly fallen out of the quarterback competition in Buffalo, and the Bills seem willing to rely on the two unimpressive veterans. None of three will hold fantasy value to begin the season.

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 08:00:42 -0700

Bills | Three QBs listed as starter

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 14:30:11 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel are all listed as the starting quarterback on the team's depth chart. Cassel, however, will start in the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Buffalo's real starting quarterback may not be revealed until after the final preseason game. On paper, Cassel looks to have the best chance to start with his experience. Again, however starts should not be starting for your fantasy squad.

Bills | Buffalo QB situation remains murky

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 11:02:38 -0700

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said a decision on who the team's starting quarterback is between QBs Matt Cassel, EJ Manuel and Tyrod Taylor might not be made until the first week of the regular season. Ryan plans to give all three starting candidates first-team repetitions equally in preseason games. The Bills plan to have a large selection of run plays in their playbook this year, and they'll look to take pressure off their quarterback with plenty of run plays.

Fantasy Tip: It just goes to show you how underwhelming Buffalo's quarterback situation is and will continue to be. Fantasy owners should stay as far away from this picture as possible, and make sure to downgrade all of the Bills' skill players in the passing game as a result.

Bills | Buffalo in QB purgatory

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 16:32:58 -0700

Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley said the team is "almost in quarterback purgatory" since they don't currently have a franchise quarterback and are unlikely to receive a high draft pick in the coming years. Currently, Buffalo has a three-way quarterback competition between QBs Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel. Whaley said Manuel is a bit behind and the team is looking to see noticeable improvement from him in 2015. Head coach Rex Ryan has been happy with Manuel but would like to see more consistency with his accuracy. Without a franchise quarterback, Ryan expects the team to have a run-heavy playbook from offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Cassel likely has the slight edge right now because of his experience, but nothing about Buffalo's QB picture should make you optimistic for the Bills receiving group. Downgrade each one of their aerial weapons in your draft, including young stud Sammy Watkins, who could turn out to be a bust for his owners expecting too much.

Bills | Buffalo's QB situation unclear

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 06:06:24 -0700

The Buffalo Bills likely wish they could mold QB Matt Cassel's experience with QB Tyrod Taylor's athleticism and QB EJ Manuel's measurables to create a starting quarterback, in the opinion of The Buffalo News writer Tyler Dunne. Cassel appears to be the leader in the clubhouse among the team's quarterbacks. Manuel continues to struggle in practice, and Taylor seems indecisive at times but shows athletic traits.

Fantasy Tip: Holy dumpster fire, Batman! There is nothing redeeming about this situation for fantasy owners. Avoid it at all costs, and downgrade all of Buffalo's weaponry because of the collective mess under center.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor given praise

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 15:43:34 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor received a vote of confidence from former teammate Baltimore Ravens FS Terrence Brooks. Brooks said Taylor possesses versatility and speed that makes him worthy of being a starting quarterback. Taylor is competing with QBs EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel for the starting quarterback position this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor still has a hill to climb as far as catching up to and surpassing Manuel and Cassel. If he does end up starting, he shouldn't be drafted as more than a low-end QB2.

Bills | Still a QB competition in Buffalo

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 15:41:38 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor are still competing for the starting quarterback job, according to head coach Rex Ryan. "Wisdom tells me to let I play out, we'll see what happens through the end," Ryan said.

Fantasy Tip: The Bills' quarterback battle could go on well into training camp and the preseason. Whoever ends up starting won't be worth drafting as a starting fantasy quarterback, however.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor garnering praise

Sat, 30 May 2015 05:56:07 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor is in the competition to be the starting quarterback as much as anyone else, according to quarterback coach David Lee. Lee added, "I think he has a beautiful throwing motion and I just have to think we've got to see how accurate he is." Head coach Rex Ryan provided Taylor first-team repetitions along with QBs EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel through the first four workouts. "He is an unknown, never played a whole lot in Baltimore," Ryan said. "I think the ability is hard to ignore, some of the things that he has."

Fantasy Tip: Even if he enters Week 1 with the starting gig, Taylor would be nothing more than a fringe No. 2 quarterback. At this point, he doesn't warrant a draft pick outside of cavernous two-QB leagues, but the Buffalo quarterback situation is worth monitoring. There are a lot of weapons attached to the offense, and their strong defense projects to frequently tilt the field advantage in the offense's favor. Plus, rushing yards can bolster a quarterback's fantasy point total in a hurry, and Taylor has the ability to scamper. Continue to check back for updates on Taylor and the QB battle in Buffalo.

Bills | Buffalo QBs receiving equal reps at OTAs

Wed, 27 May 2015 11:37:32 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and Jeff Tuel were given equal repetitions during organized team activities Tuesday, May 26. Manuel and Cassel worked with the starters while Taylor and Tuel worked with the backups. Head coach Rex Ryan said he wants to give everyone a fair chance.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel and Manuel are still the two frontrunners for the starting gig, but Taylor has the best chance to give them a run for their money. Whoever starts for the Bills will be a backup fantasy quarterback.

Bills | Rex Ryan favoring Tyrod Taylor?

Sun, 24 May 2015 17:50:21 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor was recruited by head coach Rex Ryan in free agency. Ryan believes in the talent evaluation personnel of Taylor's former team, the Baltimore Ravens, and he has always wanted a dual-threat quarterback to lead his run-heavy offense.

Fantasy Tip: The Bills have repeatedly said that there is going to be an open competition for the starting quarterback job, and it sounds like Taylor could have a fighting chance to snag the gig. He would be a low-end QB2 as the starter.

Sat, 23 May 2015 20:44:49 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and Jeff Tuel will all have a chance to win the starting job, according to general manager Doug Whaley.

Bills | Matt Cassel to be backup?

Fri, 15 May 2015 16:32:06 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Cassel is likely to enter Week 1 of the season as the team's backup quarterback, in the opinion of The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci. He also thinks head coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Greg Roman are open-minded about QB EJ Manuel and will give him a fair shot to compete for a starting job this summer. If Cassel or QB Tyrod Taylor win the starting job, the Bills would be expected to trade Manuel before outright cutting him.

Fantasy Tip: Until we know who the starter is in Buffalo, you can turn your head the other way. Whoever does wind up starting in Week 1 will probably be considered undraftable in standard fantasy leagues, anyway.

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 14:12:11 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel, EJ Manuel and Tyrod Taylor each took an equal amount of snaps Tuesday, April 28, at the team's voluntary minicamp. Head coach Rex Ryan didn't name a favorite, saying all three could be [starting] NFL quarterbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Whoever starts for the Bills will have Sammy Watkins and Percy Harvin to throw to and LeSean McCoy behind them, so the supporting cast is there. However, none of the three warrant starter consideration on fantasy squads.

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 13:06:22 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel, Jeff Tuel and Tyrod Taylor will all receive first-team repetitions in workouts, according to offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Bills | No leader for BUF quarterback job

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 10:06:36 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel will receive a fair shot to win the starting quarterback job, according to head coach Rex Ryan. "I'm lining them up to literally have a competition for the position," Ryan said. "People will say, 'Well, is this guy ahead of the other?' There's going to be assumptions, but the great thing is, let it play out. Give both guys the opportunity and then at the end of the day, the cream will rise to the top. It usually does." Ryan did not rule out the possibility of QB Tyrod Taylor winning the job.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel and Cassel likely will be the two main candidates for the job and will compete for the job during training camp. The winner of the job should be seen as a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

Buffalo Bills QBs EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor will compete for the starting quarterback job during offseason workouts and training camp, according to head coach Rex Ryan.
