Lions | Stevan Ridley released

Thu, 25 Aug 2016 05:58:09 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley was released Thursday, Aug. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Zach Zenner and/or Dwayne Washington may move up to be the team's third running back. They won't be entirely useful in fantasy unless something happens to Ameer Abdullah or Theo Riddick ahead of them, but the two youngsters are amidst the RB5 speculative flyers. Ridley could still latch on and serve as an RB5 somewhere before the season.

Lions | Stevan Ridley may be on bubble

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 07:07:38 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley may be on the roster bubble if he does not receive any work with the second-team offense during the team's third preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley appears to be at least fourth on the depth chart at this point and has only played in the second half in the first two preseason games. He will not have much fantasy value if he stays with the Lions.

Lions | Stevan Ridley did not receive much time

Sat, 13 Aug 2016 07:50:01 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley did not see playing time until the second half of the preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Friday, Aug. 12, and finished the game with 14 yards on five carries.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley was expected to compete with Zach Zenner for the No. 3 running back job, but it appears he is fourth on the depth chart at this point. Owners will need to monitor the situation because Ridley may be fighting for a roster spot. He likely will not have a big role on offense if he makes the team, so owners can avoid him in drafts.

Lions | Stevan Ridley the favorite for No. 3

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 12:01:30 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley seems to be the frontrunner for the No. 3 running back position behind RBs Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick, according to Tim Twentyman of detroitlions.com. Ridley would provide a change of pace from Abdullah and Riddick, but he'll still have to prove himself after missing most of the offseason with an undisclosed injury.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley may vulture a touchdown here and there when the Lions are in goal-line situations, but he can mostly be avoided as long as Abdullah and Riddick are healthy.

Lions | Several candidates for backup RB role

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 04:43:43 -0700

The Detroit Lions will have several candidates in mind to complement RB Ameer Abdullah on the field. In contention for the second running back role are RB Stevan Ridley, RB Zach Zenner, and RB George Winn.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley's fantasy value goes up and down depending on the situation he is in. Zenner was explosive last year without getting hurt, and Winn is a local favorite much like Joique Bell (Wayne State) was for a couple seasons. Whoever gets this job could see some action, so monitor it closely.

Lions | Best yet to come for Stevan Ridley?

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 18:42:27 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley said he believes his best years are still ahead of him, and he said he expects to have a similar role to the one he had with the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley should handle short-yardage duties, and the possibility of goal-line carries makes him worth a look as a RB4.

Lions | Stevan Ridley's deal for one year

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 11:25:46 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley signed a one-year deal.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley figures to run in short yardage and goal line situations. He'll check in as an RB4 for now.

Lions | Stevan Ridley headed to Lions

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 10:43:33 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Jets) announced Friday, April 1, that he's signing with the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley is two years removed from his ACL tear, and he figures to take over the between-the-tackles role that Joique Bell had. Bell caught a ton of passes, which Ridley has not done in his career. That role will fall to Theo Riddick on third down and passing situations. Ridley's presence could be felt in goal line situations, which would take some luster away from Ameer Abdullah. Abdullah still figures to be the lead guy. He and Riddick are RB3 options in PPR leagues. Ridley will probably check in as an RB4.

Lions | Stevan Ridley visiting Lions

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 06:03:49 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Jets) will visit the Detroit Lions Tuesday, March 29.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley is two years removed from ACL repair, and if he has anything left, the time is now. Keep an eye on him.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley unlikely to rejoin Pats

Sat, 06 Feb 2016 11:54:09 -0800

New York Jets impending free-agent RB Stevan Ridley is not expected to be pursued by the New England Patriots, his former team. The Patriots will likely look to add depth at running back this offseason, and Ridley is entering free agency, but New England is expected to look elsewhere.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots let Ridley go for a reason, and they probably haven't changed their minds in such a short amount of time, especially after Ridley hardly saw the field last season due to injury. For now, Ridley remains a non-factor in the fantasy football realm.

Jets | New York has questions at running back

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 13:41:57 -0800

New York Jets impending free-agent RBs Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Stevan Ridley will all be unrestricted free agents this offseason if they are not re-signed.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory is expected not to re-sign, and it's unlikely that the Jets would let their three best running backs walk away. If Powell stays and the Jets don't sign anyone else, he could be the featured back in New York's offense next season.

Jets | Stevan Ridley plays eight snaps

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 06:22:32 -0800

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley played eight snaps in Week 10 Thursday, Nov. 12.

Fantasy Tip: It was his first action of the season, but he doesn't have a lot of fantasy appeal right now unless something happens to RB Chris Ivory.

Jets | One Jets RB good to go, one iffy

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 11:19:01 -0800

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) practiced Wednesday, Nov. 11, and is probable for Week 10 Thursday, Nov. 12. RB Bilal Powell (ankle) was limited all week and is doubtful.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) isn't much of an option against the Buffalo Bills on FantasyScore unless something happens to RB Chris Ivory.

Jets | Stevan Ridley limited Tuesday

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 14:14:37 -0800

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) was limited in practice Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Todd Bowles has already said Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has a 50-50 chance of playing Thursday night. Even if he does, Chris Ivory will receive most of the work out of the backfield. Ridley can be overlooked on FantasyScore.

Jets | Stevan Ridley may or may not play

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 13:41:10 -0800

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) has a 50-50 chance of playing Thursday, Nov. 12, against the Buffalo Bills, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Chris Ivory ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) is the main man in the Jets' backfield anyway, and Ridley could be rusty if he does suit up. Ridley ($2,000, 4.0%) is not an advisable investment on FantasyScore as long as Ivory is healthy.

Jets | Chris Ivory, Stevan Ridley practice

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 16:53:47 -0800

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) and RB Stevan Ridley (knee) fully participated in practice Monday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory should continue to see a majority of the carries for the Jets and should be a weekly starting option for fantasy owners. Ridley should also receive a handful of touches during the game but is not a great option.

Jets | Two Jets RBs probable

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 11:53:44 -0800

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) and RB Stevan Ridley (knee) practiced Friday, Nov. 6, and are probable for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) is a low-end RB1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) doesn't have a large enough role to use on FantasyScore.

Jets | Three Jets RBs do work in practice

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 11:12:50 -0800

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) and RB Stevan Ridley (knee) were full participants in practice Thursday, Nov. 5. RB Bilal Powell (ankle) was limited.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) is really the only one to consider starting against the Jacksonville Jaguars this week. He's a low-end RB1 on FantasyScore.

Jets | Chris Ivory, Stevan Ridley practice

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 14:53:35 -0800

New York Jets RBs Chris Ivory (hamstring) and Stevan Ridley (knee) both were full participants in practice Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) is the clear workhorse runner in this backfield, and he faces an excellent matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9. Pay up for him on FantasyScore. With many of the Jets offensive players injured this week, expect Ivory to have heavy usage. Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) can be ignored for now.

Jets | Stevan Ridley activated from PUP

Fri, 30 Oct 2015 16:10:03 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Friday, Oct. 30, and WR Chris Owusu was waived in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) practiced in full Friday and is probable in Week 8 against the Oakland Raiders. It's unlikely that he'll have a big role in his first game back from a serious knee injury, but Ridley is a candidate to be stashed in most fantasy formats, as he could be the direct backup to Chris Ivory.

Jets | Chris Ivory, Stevan Ridley probable

Fri, 30 Oct 2015 15:43:25 -0700

New York Jets RBs Chris Ivory (hamstring) and Stevan Ridley (knee) both practiced in full Friday, Oct. 30, and are probable for Week 8 against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: The Raiders continue to be a good matchup for running backs, especially for one like Ivory ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) that usually sees heavy workloads. He's a strong play on FantasyScore. It looks like this'll be Ridley's ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) first game active this year. While he could become the primary backup to Ivory, he should be avoided as we wait to see what kind of role he'll have in this backfield.

Jets | No restrictions for Stevan Ridley

Thu, 29 Oct 2015 14:58:00 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) has no restrictions from the medical staff after being removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list last week. Ridley is a year removed from tearing ligaments in his knee and should be more than a bit player behind RB Chris Ivory when he returns to the field. Ivory's bruising running style makes Ridley's presence that much more important down the stretch.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap), not Bilal Powell or Zac Stacy, may be the primary handcuff for Chris Ivory owners now in traditional leagues. It's unclear how much time Ridley will see when he returns to action and this situation could be fluid. For now he has no daily value.

Jets | Stevan Ridley looks better

Thu, 29 Oct 2015 10:09:34 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) looks better in practice this week than he did last week, according to offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. "He's running with more confidence," Gailey said.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could be a factor later in the season, but he's not a good FantasyScore start against the Oakland Raiders this week.

Jets | Stevan Ridley won't play

Sat, 24 Oct 2015 12:18:51 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) will not play Sunday, Oct. 25, against the New England Patriots as he continues to recover from offseason ACL surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Chris Ivory will still be the go-to running back even when Ridley returns. Ridley could vulture some short-yardage carries, and maybe even some touchdowns, but he won't have much fantasy value going forward unless Ivory is injured.

Jets | Bilal Powell out for Week 7

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 10:00:27 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is out for Week 7 against the New England Patriots. The team will discuss whether to activate RB Stevan Ridley (knee) off the Physically Unable to Perform list over the next two days. RB Zac Stacy could serve as the backup Sunday, Oct. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) doesn't figure to see a lot of carries behind Chris Ivory ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) if that scenario plays out. Ivory is a low-end RB1 on FantasyScore.

Thu, 22 Oct 2015 10:03:35 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) hasn't exhibited a burst yet, and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey said they'd like to see more from him.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley may be another week away from returning. Chris Ivory ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) is a low-end RB1 on FantasyScore against the New England Patriots this week.

Jets | Stevan Ridley has full practice

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 13:03:18 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) had a full practice Wednesday, Oct. 21. There's a chance he could play in Week 7, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: It may take some time for Ridley ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) to get back into the swing of things, plus Chris Ivory has done more than an adequate job of running the football for the Jets. Avoid Ridley for the time being.

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) will put on pads this week and might be able to play against the New England Patriots, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley has not played yet this year as he has been recovering from offseason knee surgery. He is eligible to return this week. Even if he does play, however, he will probably be eased in and will still play behind Chris Ivory and possibly others.

Jets | Stevan Ridley placed on PUP list

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 11:49:18 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list Saturday, Sept. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Zac Stacy are more than capable of holding the fort down until Ridley returns. Ivory ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) should be viewed as a RB2 in season leagues and is a decent play on FantasyScore for Week 1.

Jets | Stevan Ridley going to PUP list?

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 13:08:47 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is expected to be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. This would disable Ridley for the first six weeks of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley had knee surgery nine months ago, so it's somewhat puzzling why it's taking him this long to be able to play again. The Jets are taking the safe approach, and they can afford to take that approach with Chris Ivory starting. If Ridley is placed on the PUP list, he can be dropped from fantasy rosters.

Jets | NY's running back depth is solid

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 16:54:03 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory is the team's starting running back, but the Jets' running back depth behind him with RBs Stevan Ridley, Zac Stacy and Bilal Powell is impressive and will give QB Geno Smith a lot of help out of the backfield.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory should see most of the touches in this crowded backfield, and you should consider him an ideal RB3 in fantasy leagues. The Jets are unlikely to keep four running backs on roster, so Stacy and Powell might be fighting to stay on the final roster.

Jets | Zac Stacy on outside looking in?

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 19:31:43 -0700

New York Jets RB Zac Stacy is competing with RBs Chris Ivory, Stevan Ridley (knee) and Bilal Powell for one of the running back spots on the 53-man roster in training camp and the preseason. According to beat writer Darryl Slater, Stacy is not projected to make the cut, although it could depend on the health of Ridley.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy went from fantasy starter to an afterthought in an awful hurry. If he can't crack the Jets, he could find work elsewhere. However, it appears his days as a serious fantasy option are already behind him.

Jets | Stevan Ridley being eased in

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 13:28:00 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) isn't being rushed back from the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how long Ridley will be on the PUP list, but the Jets still have Chris Ivory, Zac Stacy and Bilal Powell to feed in the backfield. Once healthy, Ridley should be second in line to Ivory, but shouldn't be drafted as more than a RB4 or RB5.

Jets | Stevan Ridley placed on PUP list

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 15:17:27 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear when Ridley will be available to practice, or if he'll even be ready for the start of the regular season. Chris Ivory was still expected to be the starter in the Jets' backfield. It's best to wait until later rounds to draft Ridley.

Jets | Chris Ivory leads backfield

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 07:35:43 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory is listed as the starting running back entering training camp, according to beat writer Rich Cimini's unofficial depth chart. RB Bilal Powell is the primary backup, and RB Zac Stacy is listed as the third running back. RB Stevan Ridley (knee) could figure in eventually, but he's expected to be limited at the start of camp.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory established himself in a muddy backfield that was expected to be led by Chris Johnson last year. Ivory has competition again this year, but he's a solid RB2 and takes a hit in PPR formats. Powell is a decent RB4 in PPR formats. It's hard to draft Stacy right now unless Powell and Ridley slip up.

Jets | Stevan Ridley could start on PUP

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 10:41:15 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) may begin the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list as he continues to recover from knee surgery, according to Dom Cosentino of NJ.com. If Ridley is not ready for training camp, the odds of him being placed on the PUP to start the season increase.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets have a crowded backfield as it is, and Ridley is already losing ground on the competition. Chris Ivory will likely start, barring injury, and Ridley will also have Zac Stacy and Bilal Powell to fend off. Draft him as a RB4 in deeper leagues and a RB5 in normal leagues.

Jets | Stevan Ridley's camp status uncertain

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 06:39:24 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is not sure if he will be able to fully participate at the start of training camp. Ridley is he does not know if he will be 100% when camp starts and will not rush his rehab.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley's roster spot may be in jeopardy if he is not able to practice since the team has several other backs on the roster. Owners should monitor his recovery to see when he will be on the field. Ridley could be a late-round option in deeper leagues if he has a solid role in the offense.

Jets | Stevan Ridley confident

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 18:45:44 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) said his plan is to be a contributor by Week 1. "I can't predict the future, but for me I've got to be ready for Week 1, and that's the goal," Ridley said. "When I do hit the field, I'm making an impact."

Fantasy Tip: Ridley should end up being the No. 2 back behind Chris Ivory at some point, but he is a RB4 at best unless Ivory were to be sidelined with an injury.

Jets | Stevan Ridley to be ready for training camp

Thu, 21 May 2015 14:30:29 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) should be healthy enough for training camp as he continues to recover from knee surgery. Head coach Todd Bowles said Ridley is not ready for team drills, but participated in positional drills.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley is expected to be the No. 2 running back behind Chris Ivory once the season is underway. He'll be an important part of the Jets' running offense, and may steal some goal line carries, but isn't more than a low-end RB4.

Jets | Running back situation up in the air

Thu, 21 May 2015 11:51:04 -0700

New York Jets coach Todd Bowles said his team's running back situation may take until the preseason to sort out. RBs Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, Zac Stacy, Stevan Ridley and Daryl Richardson all have experience at the position, but no one has broken out yet.

Fantasy Tip: Bowles said the team could keep as many as four backs, but it begs the question of which one to start. For now, this situation is too volatile, but be prepared to move one up your draft board if someone looks explosive in preseason games.

Jets | NYJ to run more in 2015?

Tue, 19 May 2015 11:14:45 -0700

New York Jets RBs Chris Ivory, Stevan Ridley, Zac Stacy and others could be busy this season, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said the reason he hired offensive coordinator Chan Gailey is because he has a track record of being able to run the ball, at least in his college coaching days. Bowles supposedly prefers a balanced, ball-control offense, which puts more of the onus on the running backs.

Fantasy Tip: Again, Ivory should see the majority of work out the backfield, but this figures to be more of a committee approach with how deep the Jets are in the backfield. Ivory could end up in RB3 territory while the rest of the running backs currently shouldn't be seen as more than flex options.

Jets | Stevan Ridley to be limited in OTAs

Tue, 19 May 2015 10:25:54 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) will be a limited participant in organized team activities, which begin Tuesday, May 19.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley will be a big part of the Jets' committee of running backs with Chris Ivory, Zac Stacy and Bilal Powell also in the fold. Ivory should technically be the starter, but this could turn into a crapshoot. Ivory has RB3 potential while Ridley should be targeted in the low-end RB4 to high-end RB5 range.

Jets | Stevan Ridley signing with Jets

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 16:21:15 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Patriots) is signing with the New York Jets, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley is coming off a 2014 season that was limited to just six games after he suffered tears to his ACL and MCL in mid-October and missed the rest of the season. Ridley was rushing at a career-low 3.6 yards per attempt at the time of the injury, and had scored two touchdowns in his six games. He was routinely in head coach Bill Belichick's doghouse due to fumbling woes. Ridley will have to leapfrog Bilal Powell and/or Chris Ivory on the depth chart to have a significant role in the offense. Ridley could return to fantasy RB2 status if he's able to do so.

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Patriots) left his meeting with the New York Jets without a contract, according to sources. Ridley is scheduled to meet with at least one more team next week, but the feeling is he will sign with the Jets or the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Ridley will sign with a team in the near future. Ridley likely will be a backup running back wherever he goes but should still have a role in the offense. Owners could consider Ridley in the later rounds of drafts as a handcuff or depth at the position.

NFL | Stevan Ridley could be cleared in May

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 10:42:26 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is expected to receive clearance to return to the field at some point in May. Ridley has met with the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets but is not scheduled to meet with any more teams at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley is working his way back from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, so he could be limited during offseason workouts if he signs with a team. He likely will be able to find a backup job with a team but likely will not be a great fantasy option in 2015.
