Jets | NY's running back depth is solid

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 16:54:03 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory is the team's starting running back, but the Jets' running back depth behind him with RBs Stevan Ridley, Zac Stacy and Bilal Powell is impressive and will give QB Geno Smith a lot of help out of the backfield.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory should see most of the touches in this crowded backfield, and you should consider him an ideal RB3 in fantasy leagues. The Jets are unlikely to keep four running backs on roster, so Stacy and Powell might be fighting to stay on the final roster.

Jets | Zac Stacy on outside looking in?

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 19:31:43 -0700

New York Jets RB Zac Stacy is competing with RBs Chris Ivory, Stevan Ridley (knee) and Bilal Powell for one of the running back spots on the 53-man roster in training camp and the preseason. According to beat writer Darryl Slater, Stacy is not projected to make the cut, although it could depend on the health of Ridley.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy went from fantasy starter to an afterthought in an awful hurry. If he can't crack the Jets, he could find work elsewhere. However, it appears his days as a serious fantasy option are already behind him.

Jets | Stevan Ridley being eased in

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 13:28:00 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) isn't being rushed back from the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how long Ridley will be on the PUP list, but the Jets still have Chris Ivory, Zac Stacy and Bilal Powell to feed in the backfield. Once healthy, Ridley should be second in line to Ivory, but shouldn't be drafted as more than a RB4 or RB5.

Jets | Stevan Ridley placed on PUP list

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 15:17:27 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear when Ridley will be available to practice, or if he'll even be ready for the start of the regular season. Chris Ivory was still expected to be the starter in the Jets' backfield. It's best to wait until later rounds to draft Ridley.

Jets | Chris Ivory leads backfield

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 07:35:43 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory is listed as the starting running back entering training camp, according to beat writer Rich Cimini's unofficial depth chart. RB Bilal Powell is the primary backup, and RB Zac Stacy is listed as the third running back. RB Stevan Ridley (knee) could figure in eventually, but he's expected to be limited at the start of camp.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory established himself in a muddy backfield that was expected to be led by Chris Johnson last year. Ivory has competition again this year, but he's a solid RB2 and takes a hit in PPR formats. Powell is a decent RB4 in PPR formats. It's hard to draft Stacy right now unless Powell and Ridley slip up.

Jets | Stevan Ridley could start on PUP

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 10:41:15 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) may begin the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list as he continues to recover from knee surgery, according to Dom Cosentino of NJ.com. If Ridley is not ready for training camp, the odds of him being placed on the PUP to start the season increase.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets have a crowded backfield as it is, and Ridley is already losing ground on the competition. Chris Ivory will likely start, barring injury, and Ridley will also have Zac Stacy and Bilal Powell to fend off. Draft him as a RB4 in deeper leagues and a RB5 in normal leagues.

Jets | Stevan Ridley's camp status uncertain

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 06:39:24 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is not sure if he will be able to fully participate at the start of training camp. Ridley is he does not know if he will be 100% when camp starts and will not rush his rehab.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley's roster spot may be in jeopardy if he is not able to practice since the team has several other backs on the roster. Owners should monitor his recovery to see when he will be on the field. Ridley could be a late-round option in deeper leagues if he has a solid role in the offense.

Jets | Stevan Ridley confident

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 18:45:44 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) said his plan is to be a contributor by Week 1. "I can't predict the future, but for me I've got to be ready for Week 1, and that's the goal," Ridley said. "When I do hit the field, I'm making an impact."

Fantasy Tip: Ridley should end up being the No. 2 back behind Chris Ivory at some point, but he is a RB4 at best unless Ivory were to be sidelined with an injury.

Jets | Stevan Ridley to be ready for training camp

Thu, 21 May 2015 14:30:29 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) should be healthy enough for training camp as he continues to recover from knee surgery. Head coach Todd Bowles said Ridley is not ready for team drills, but participated in positional drills.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley is expected to be the No. 2 running back behind Chris Ivory once the season is underway. He'll be an important part of the Jets' running offense, and may steal some goal line carries, but isn't more than a low-end RB4.

Jets | Running back situation up in the air

Thu, 21 May 2015 11:51:04 -0700

New York Jets coach Todd Bowles said his team's running back situation may take until the preseason to sort out. RBs Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, Zac Stacy, Stevan Ridley and Daryl Richardson all have experience at the position, but no one has broken out yet.

Fantasy Tip: Bowles said the team could keep as many as four backs, but it begs the question of which one to start. For now, this situation is too volatile, but be prepared to move one up your draft board if someone looks explosive in preseason games.

Jets | NYJ to run more in 2015?

Tue, 19 May 2015 11:14:45 -0700

New York Jets RBs Chris Ivory, Stevan Ridley, Zac Stacy and others could be busy this season, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said the reason he hired offensive coordinator Chan Gailey is because he has a track record of being able to run the ball, at least in his college coaching days. Bowles supposedly prefers a balanced, ball-control offense, which puts more of the onus on the running backs.

Fantasy Tip: Again, Ivory should see the majority of work out the backfield, but this figures to be more of a committee approach with how deep the Jets are in the backfield. Ivory could end up in RB3 territory while the rest of the running backs currently shouldn't be seen as more than flex options.

Jets | Stevan Ridley to be limited in OTAs

Tue, 19 May 2015 10:25:54 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) will be a limited participant in organized team activities, which begin Tuesday, May 19.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley will be a big part of the Jets' committee of running backs with Chris Ivory, Zac Stacy and Bilal Powell also in the fold. Ivory should technically be the starter, but this could turn into a crapshoot. Ivory has RB3 potential while Ridley should be targeted in the low-end RB4 to high-end RB5 range.

Jets | Stevan Ridley should be ready for camp

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 06:42:59 -0700

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) should be ready for the start of training camp if he does not suffer any setbacks, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley is working his way back from injury and may not do much during offseason workouts. Ridley likely will serve a backup role with the Jets and could be a late-round option in drafts next season.

Jets | Stevan Ridley signing with Jets

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 16:21:15 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Patriots) is signing with the New York Jets, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley is coming off a 2014 season that was limited to just six games after he suffered tears to his ACL and MCL in mid-October and missed the rest of the season. Ridley was rushing at a career-low 3.6 yards per attempt at the time of the injury, and had scored two touchdowns in his six games. He was routinely in head coach Bill Belichick's doghouse due to fumbling woes. Ridley will have to leapfrog Bilal Powell and/or Chris Ivory on the depth chart to have a significant role in the offense. Ridley could return to fantasy RB2 status if he's able to do so.

Redskins | Stevan Ridley to visit Washington

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 06:00:18 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Patriots) will visit the Washington Redskins Tuesday, April 7.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley's fantasy value wouldn't be maximized behind Alfred Morris, barring an injury. Ridley will likely be a depth back you take late in drafts.

Sun, 05 Apr 2015 15:14:21 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Patriots) took an exploratory visit to the Miami Dolphins. The club was checking out his medicals and has not ruled out signing Ridley.

Fantasy Tip: It seems like Ridley wants to go with an AFC East club to see the Patriots every so often. See how Ridley responds from a torn ACL and where he lands.

Jets | Stevan Ridley leaves NY without deal

Fri, 03 Apr 2015 15:59:53 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Patriots) left his meeting with the New York Jets without a contract, according to sources. Ridley is scheduled to meet with at least one more team next week, but the feeling is he will sign with the Jets or the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Ridley will sign with a team in the near future. Ridley likely will be a backup running back wherever he goes but should still have a role in the offense. Owners could consider Ridley in the later rounds of drafts as a handcuff or depth at the position.

NFL | Stevan Ridley could be cleared in May

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 10:42:26 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is expected to receive clearance to return to the field at some point in May. Ridley has met with the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets but is not scheduled to meet with any more teams at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley is working his way back from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, so he could be limited during offseason workouts if he signs with a team. He likely will be able to find a backup job with a team but likely will not be a great fantasy option in 2015.

Jets | Stevan Ridley meeting with NYJ

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 10:26:13 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Patriots) is scheduled to meet with the New York Jets Wednesday, April 1, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley is still recovering from his knee injury but is close to receive clearance to return to the field. Ridley likely would not be the starter with the Jets but could have a role on offense. He could be an option in later rounds of drafts next season but should not be a weekly start option for owners.

Dolphins | Stevan Ridley visiting Miami

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 05:56:34 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Patriots) is visiting the Miami Dolphins Tuesday, March 31.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley had some highs and lows in New England before a torn ACL ended his run. He had some fumbling issues, but if he landed a significant role, he could be a RB2 in fantasy.

NFL | Stevan Ridley to start meeting teams

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 07:04:07 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is scheduled to meet with a few teams this week. Ridley is expected to receive full medical clearance in around six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley likely will be able to find a backup job this offseason but will not be a starting option for a team. His fantasy value will be determined by the team he signs with, but he could be an option in the later rounds of drafts.

Vikings | MIN may look at Stevan Ridley

Wed, 11 Mar 2015 04:28:19 -0700

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Patriots) is drawing interest from the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: Three words: Adrian Peterson insurance. Ridley, who rushed for 340 yards last season before suffering a torn ACL, is being courted just in case Peterson doesn't return. A running back returning from a knee injury is a risky proposition, but Ridley could be in Minnesota's plans if Peterson doesn't return. Keep an eye on this.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley could receive prove-it deal

Mon, 02 Mar 2015 11:03:33 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (knee) could be a coup for a team willing to take a chance on his recovery from anterior cruciate ligament surgery this offseason. He's likely to receive an offer for a "prove-it" one-year deal around the $1.25 million range with incentives.

Fantasy Tip: The uncertain future for Ridley as it relates to both free agency and his recovery from ACL makes him a cloudy fantasy football asset entering the 2015 season. Depending on where Ridley lands, he could be worth a stab in the later rounds of standard fantasy drafts for running back depth.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley ahead of schedule

Fri, 20 Feb 2015 15:49:40 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is about four weeks ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Ridley hopes to be able to return to the field in May.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known who Ridley will play for next season, so his value will depend on his next team and his role. Ridley may not be able to find a starting job in free agency, but he should be able to find at least a backup job. Owners should consider Ridley as an option in the later rounds of drafts since he is coming back from the ACL injury.

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (knee) has a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn medial collateral ligament, according to a source. Ridley will miss the remainder of the season.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley out for Week 7

Mon, 13 Oct 2014 13:53:04 -0700

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (knee) did not practice Monday, Oct. 13, and has been ruled out for Week 7. The team did not practice Monday, but was required to provide the status of injured players if they had practiced.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley is expected to miss a significant amount of time, possibly the rest of the season, with the knee injury. Shane Vereen, Brandon Bolden and James White should see increased value, with Vereen being the only fantasy relevant player of the trio, for now.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley injured

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 12:41:58 -0700

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (knee) suffered a knee injury in the team's Week 6 game and will not return.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Ridley will miss any time because of the injury, so owners will need to monitor his situation. Shane Vereen likely would see more work if Ridley misses time, but James White would also receive a bigger role. White could be a waiver wire pickup this week if Ridley misses some games.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley praised

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 06:34:38 -0700

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley was praised by head coach Bill Belichick for his growth this season. Belichick also credited Ridley's ball security, vision and confidence.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley busted out for a 27-113-1 game last week and could have thrust himself into a position where he's the primary runner and Shane Vereen is the receiving back. Both backs should be involved, and it could be a game-by-game situation where one may be used more than the other. Ridley ($5,300; 10.6% of your cap) and Vereen ($6,300; 12.6%) are RB2 or flex options this week against Buffalo.

Patriots | Shane Vereen leading RBs in snaps

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 18:54:17 -0700

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen was on the field for 17 offensive snaps in the first half of the Week 4 game against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Sept. 29, with RB Stevan Ridley in for six snaps, and RB James White in for two. The team ran two plays with two running backs on the field simultaneously.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen's fantasy owners have to like the snap distribution, although Ridley actually leads the team in rushing with 15 yards on three totes, while Vereen has nine yards on four runs. Vereen also has 12 yards on three receptions while the other two have no catches. Vereen is the best fantasy option of the trio, but neither has done much of anything Monday.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley invisible in first quarter

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 18:06:23 -0700

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley was on the field for just one of his team's seven offensive snaps in the first quarter Monday, Sept. 29, in the Week 4 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Shane Vereen was on the field for six of the seven snaps, and clearly is way ahead of Ridley on the depth chart. In fact, it's not even close. Fantasy owners need not pay Ridley any mind until he sees the field a little more frequently.

Patriots | Shane Vereen dominates snaps

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 05:49:27 -0700

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen rushed seven times for 36 yards and a touchdown Week 1. He also had five catches for 35 yards. He played in 71 percent of the snaps in Week 1. RB Stevan Ridley had eight rushes for 21 yards and two catches in Week 1 while playing in 26 percent of the snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen should make a decent RB2, depending on his salary cap value, against the Vikings. Ridley's low snap count is concerning, but he had one more rushing attempt than Vereen. He is an option to consider for your flex position on FantasyScore.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley could be cut

Mon, 25 Aug 2014 06:54:38 -0700

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley may not make the team out of the preseason, according to beat writer Mike Reiss.

Patriots | James White gets first-team reps

Wed, 13 Aug 2014 23:00:47 -0700

New England Patriots RB James White saw a number of reps with the first-team offense in practice Wednesday, Aug. 13, with RB Stevan Ridley seeing most of his reps with the second-team offense. RB Shane Vereen also saw some reps with the top unit.

Fantasy Tip: White has reportedly impressed the coaching staff, and his presence could eat into the touches of Ridley if he continues to impress late in the preseason. The running back picture is shaping up as a three-headed monster (what else is new?) in New England. Ridley and Vereen are still the most promising as far as fantasy value is concerned, but White is emerging as a deep sleeper.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley in better shape

Wed, 11 Jun 2014 16:35:16 -0700

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley appears to be lighter and faster this offseason as he enters the final year of his rookie deal, according to NFL.com's Albert Breer. Ridley is expected to be the lead back in the team's backfield with RB LeGarrette Blount now with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley could return as a solid RB2 if he can hang onto the football. He's clearly more valuable in standard-scoring formats if he's able to regain the lead role and find the end zone frequently.

Thu, 05 Jun 2014 14:10:43 -0700

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley is focused on playing mistake-free football and not his contract situation. Ridley is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Fantasy Tip: Relying on Ridley as anything more than a low-end No. 2 fantasy running back isn't advised. The Patriots will ride the hot hand, and Ridley has fell out of favor with Bill Belichick in the past for a lack of ball protection.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley back in the mix

Mon, 09 Dec 2013 09:28:23 -0800

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley was active and saw the field for 17 offensive snaps in the team's Week 14 game against the Cleveland Browns. He was used in a committee running back approach that included RBs Shane Vereen and LeGarrette Blount.

Fantasy Tip: Ridley was the third back up in the rotation because his ball-security issues have put him in the doghouse. It's good to see him back, but Vereen is clearly the most valuable runner in this backfield, especially in PPR leagues. Ridley is a risky start moving forward.
