Jaguars | Julius Thomas busy at OTAs

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 19:52:37 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas' situation is much more stable this season, as he and QB Blake Bortles are building rapport during the offseason program. "Julius looks good," offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Monday, June 6. "Guys that have been here have been relatively healthy and Julius has been one of those guys, so he's been able to get a lot of reps and a lot of work in so far."

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has posted 29 touchdowns over the past three seasons, which is even more than Seattle's Jimmy Graham and New England's Rob Gronkowski during the same span. If Thomas can stay healthy he is a tremendous sleeper for fantasy owners in the middle rounds on draft day.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles meets with Julius Thomas

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:53:34 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he met with TE Julius Thomas multiple times this offseason because he wants the same chemistry with Thomas that he had last year. "We had a chance this offseason to sit down multiple times, watch film and talk about things," Bortles said. "Talk about what he wanted from me and what I wanted from him and how we can quickly get on the same page to grow together."

Fantasy Tip: Bortles is coming off a solid 2015 season and will have plenty of weapons to work with this upcoming season. Thomas missed four games because of injury but was still able to record 455 yards and five touchdowns. Bortles should be considered a starting candidate in most leagues, while Thomas could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in some deeper leagues.

Jaguars | Bigger role for Julius Thomas?

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 21:19:17 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas is the best pass-catching tight end in the NFL, according to WR Allen Robinson, and QB Blake Bortles expects to have better chemistry with Thomas in their second year together.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas showed flashes of his upside down the stretch last season, and if he can stay healthy, which is no guarantee, he should be a top-five fantasy tight end.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas wraps up mediocre year

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 18:30:05 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas posted two receptions for just 12 yards in the Week 17 game against the Houston Texans. He was targeted six times.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas struggled in his first season in Jacksonville, starting out with a hamstring injury and never emerging as a week-to-week fantasy option once he was healthy. He finished with 46 receptions, 454 yards and five touchdowns, with one 100-yard game back on Nov. 29 against the San Diego Chargers. Outside of his four-game touchdown streak from Nov. 19-Dec. 13, he was mostly a fantasy disappointment. That bodes well for savvy fantasy owners in 2016, as he could slide on draft day and re-emerge as a big-time value as long as he can stay healthy. That has been a big 'if' in his career to date.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas leaves early

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 11:25:09 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (arm) is questionable to return in Week 17 with an arm injury.

Fantasy Tip: Marcedes Lewis is the next man up as long as Thomas is out. Clay Harbor could also see some action, but don't expect either of them to see many targets.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas has quiet game

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 19:05:57 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas finished with two catches for 12 yards in a 38-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has been playing well in recent weeks, but he is still the No. 3 option in the passing game behind Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles has four second-half scores

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 14:38:49 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles passed for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth score Sunday, Dec. 13, as the Jaguars beat the Indianapolis Colts 51-16. Bortles threw for 250 yards on 16 of 30 passing and threw TDs to WR Allen Hurns, WR Allen Robinson and TE Julius Thomas.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) played perhaps his best game in his short Jaguars career. Bortles is actually a decent FantasyScore pickup and the Jaguars are no longer the league's bottom feeder.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas heavily involved

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 09:36:18 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas has been targeted 18 times and has caught 14 of those targets for 144 yards and two touchdowns in the last two weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Now fully healthy, Thomas ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has become one of Blake Bortles' favorite targets behind Allen Robinson. With Allen Hurns (concussion) out this week, Thomas is a great value pick at the position. The Tennessee Titans are a top-10 fantasy matchup for tight ends this season.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas breaks out

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 18:04:26 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas finished with nine catches for 116 yards and a touchdown in a 31-25 loss to the San Diego Chargers in Week 12.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas had by far his best game of the season, and with 14 catches the last two games, his role in the offense appears to be growing and his fantasy value is on the rise.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas looks sluggish

Fri, 20 Nov 2015 09:33:22 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas was able to find the end zone in a win over the Tennessee Titans Thursday, Nov. 19, but he has looked sluggish since returning from his fractured hand in mid-October.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas had five catches for just 28 yards and the score on Thursday night. Without the touchdown, he would've been yet again a disappointment to his fantasy owners. The Jags have plenty of other playmakers in the aerial game, so Thomas won't always be the focal point, even in the red zone. Right now he's a TE2 with upside in an improving offense.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas finds the end zone

Thu, 19 Nov 2015 21:33:19 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas had five catches for 28 yards and a touchdown in a 19-13 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has now had less than 30 receiving yards in six of his seven games, and at this point, he is a touchdown-dependent option at FantasyScore.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas will suit up

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 15:26:23 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (abdomen) practiced in full all week and is probable against the Tennessee Titans in Week 11 Thursday, Nov. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Although Thomas ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) hasn't done much of anything these last couple weeks, don't pass him over as a sleeper tight end this weekend. The Titans have a weakness against tight ends, allowing 15.6 PPR fantasy points to them per week this year.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas a full go

Tue, 17 Nov 2015 14:44:52 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (abdomen) practiced in full for the second straight day Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has just six catches in the last three games and no touchdowns. However, defending tight ends has been a weakness for the Tennessee Titans, and the Jaguars skill players are beat up, which could force Blake Bortles to rely on Thomas more often. Thomas is a sneaky good value pick this week.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas fully practices

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 16:36:56 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (abdomen) fully participated in the team's walkthrough Monday, Nov. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas was expected to be a big part of the passing offense this season, but he has posted only 139 receiving yards and one touchdown in five games. Owners probably should look for other options to use at the position.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas probable

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 10:57:17 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (abdomen) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 13, and is probable for Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: JT ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) faces a midrange matchup in Week 10 and is a midrange option on FantasyScore.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas practices in full

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 16:53:40 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (abdomen) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) should be fine for the game against the Baltimore Ravens this week. Thomas has recorded only 18 receiving yards in the last two games and may not be the best starting option since the Ravens play well against opposing tight ends.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas, Rashad Greene practice

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 15:01:41 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (abdomen) and WR Rashad Greene (thumb) both practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Greene ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is expected to return next week from the short-term IR, so you can ignore him on FantasyScore. There's no guarantee he'll return to a significant role, either, with Bryan Walters being adequate in his absence. Thomas ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) hasn't done much in his last two games (four total catches) and shouldn't be expected to go off against a Baltimore Ravens defense that has been sound against the position.

Jaguars | Two Jaguars probable

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 11:42:10 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (ankle, thigh) and TE Julius Thomas (abdomen) practiced Friday, Nov. 6, and are probable for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Hurns ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has a tough New York Jets secondary to contend with. He's a suspect flex option on FantasyScore. Same goes for Thomas ($5,700, 11.4% of cap), who has yet to really show the receiving skills he displayed in Denver.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas a full participant

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 12:18:42 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (abdomen) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) comes in as a midrange tight end this week against a good defense in the New York Jets that has allowed just one touchdown to tight ends all season so far.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas a full participant

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 14:45:24 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (abdomen) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has one touchdown in his three games this year, and he'll be facing a tough New York Jets defense in Week 9. The Jets have allowed only two scores to opposing tight ends this year, making Thomas not all that attractive in daily formats.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas has groin injury

Tue, 27 Oct 2015 13:07:30 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (groin) is dealing with a mild groin injury.

Fantasy Tip: The fact that the injury is mild indicates that Thomas ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) could still be able to play in Week 9, especially since the Jaguars have a bye this week. His status will need to be monitored over the next two weeks.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas banged up in win

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 22:16:53 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (undisclosed) suffered an undisclosed injury in the Week 7 game against the Buffalo Bills in London.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) was limited to one catch for four yards on five targets. He has been a complete bust for Jacksonville, and FantasyScore players will want to stay far away.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas probable

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 07:43:57 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (chest, hand) is probable for Week 7 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: JT ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has a tough matchup, but he's a midrange option on FantasyScore.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas practices in full

Thu, 22 Oct 2015 13:24:02 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (chest, hand) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) should be able to play in the Week 7 game against the Buffalo Bills and is starting to build chemistry with Blake Bortles. The Bills have had some problems stopping tight ends this season, which makes Thomas an attractive fantasy option.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas a full go

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 15:34:59 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (chest, hand) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) found the end zone for the first time this year last week. He heads to London and will face the Buffalo Bills, who allow 14.1 PPR fantasy points per game to tight ends (eighth-most). Consider Thomas a fine target on FantasyScore this weekend.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas dealing with injury

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 10:11:30 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (rib) suffered a rib contusion during the team's Week 6 game and his status for the Week 7 game against the Buffalo Bills will be updated later in the week.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas played well in Week 6 when he recorded 78 yards and a touchdown and likely will remain a key part in the passing game if the injury does not sideline him. Thomas should be a starting option for owners in Week 7 if he is active.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas makes an impact

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 17:25:34 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas had seven catches on 13 targets for 78 yards and a touchdown in a 31-20 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: In his second game back, Thomas ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) showed no signs of being limited by the hand injury that delayed his debut, and he should continue to see plenty of looks going forward with the Jaguars likely to be playing from behind on a routine basis. Expect him to be a quality starting option at FantasyScore going forward.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas should be more involved

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 08:19:02 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) should be more involved in the offense against the Houston Texans in Week 6. Thomas was on the field for 30 of 59 offense snaps in the last game but is expected to be on the field for more snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) was pretty quiet in his 2015 debut last week when he caught two passes for 20 yards. He should see more targets as the season goes on and could be a weekly starting option. He is facing a Texans defense that is in the middle of the pack in terms of fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends. Thomas should be a solid starting option for owners this week.

Jaguars | Denard Robinson, Julius Thomas probable

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 15:23:53 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson (knee) and TE Julius Thomas (hand) both practiced in full Friday, Oct. 16, and are listed as probable for Week 6 against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: With T.J. Yeldon a question mark to play this weekend, Robinson ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could be much more involved in the ground game, but he still remains more of a deep sleeper. Thomas ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) had just two catches for 20 yards in his first game of the year in Week 5. He'll slowly become more involved, but the Texans have only allowed two scores to tight ends this year.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas has full practice

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 16:11:07 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas looks to have his breakout game of 2015 after catching just two passes for 20 yards in his return last week. He's an under-the-radar play on FantasyScore at $5,000 (10.0% of cap).

Jaguars | Julius Thomas fully practices

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 16:05:53 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) debuted last week but only caught two passes for 20 yards. One would think he'd be more involved this week after shaking off some rust. The Jaguars have a lot of offensive weapons with which to spread the ball around, though, so Thomas may be a risky investment.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas finally makes debut

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 18:11:33 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (finger) made his regular season debut in Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he finished with two receptions for 20 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) will likely factor more into the offense as he gets back up to speed and knocks off the rust, but FantasyScore players should avoid him until he sees more targets.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas will play in Week 5

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 07:06:59 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) will be active for the Week 5 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is not expected to be limited.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has not played since the first preseason game, so he may be a little rusty early in the game. Thomas is a risky option to use since it is his first game back, so owners that have other options available may want to keep him on the bench for at least one week.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas questionable

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 09:55:59 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 9, and is questionable for Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: It'll probably be another week for JT to return. Marcedes Lewis ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) was targeted eight times last week and hauled in five grabs for 40 yards. He is a basement flyer worth consideration on FantasyScore.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas limited Wednesday

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 14:43:22 -0700

Updating previous reports, Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has been cleared to catch passes but has not been cleared to play yet, which may indicate he will miss at least one more game. Marcedes Lewis ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Clay Harbor ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) have been filling in for Thomas, but neither player is a great fantasy option.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas not optimistic

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 12:46:24 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) said he doesn't know if he'll be able to play this week, adding that if he does play he'll be limited in what he can do. Thomas said he will take the advice of Jacksonville's medical team before deciding whether or not to play.

Fantasy Tip: It's sounding more likely that Thomas will sit again. And, as he indicated, if he does play he won't be at full capacity. Marcedes Lewis ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Clay Harbor ($2,000, 4.0%) are cheap, but they haven't produced much in Thomas's stead.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas not cleared to play

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 10:01:38 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) has not been cleared to play in Week 5, but he has been cleared to begin catching passes Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Fantasy Tip: JT ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) would have a decent matchup if he plays this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he might be out until Week 6. Avoid on FantasyScore for now.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas will practice

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 09:13:48 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) will practice without a brace Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Fantasy Tip: JT ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) would have a decent matchup if he plays this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It's probably best to hold off on FantasyScore until a clearer outlook is known Friday.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas may be cleared soon

Mon, 05 Oct 2015 10:51:41 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) is scheduled to meet with a doctor Monday, Oct. 5, and may be cleared for full practice after the meeting. His status for the Week 5 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is uncertain at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye out on Thomas' practice participation this week to see if he will be able to play in Week 5. He should have a solid role in the passing game when he returns, but owners may want to see him play in a game before using him in their lineup.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas ruled out

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 10:30:17 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) has been ruled out for Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: There's a chance that Thomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) could return in Week 5, but it's not a guarantee at this point. He'll have to show more in practices likely before the team clears him. Even if Thomas is active next weekend, he could have his reps limited, making him a big risk in daily formats.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas still limited

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 13:23:26 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is not expected to play against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4 because he still has not been cleared to catch passes at this point. Owners should monitor his situation because he could be a fantasy option down the road.

"But no dates (to return), no nothing. Just waiting to get cleared."

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) will be an option to consider on FantasyScore upon returning in a couple of weeks.

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (finger) will be re-evaluated in two weeks, or days before the Week 4 games, head coach Gus Bradley said Wednesday, Sept. 16. Beat writer Ryan O'Halloran said he expects Thomas not to play until at least Week 6 or 7.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) was a big splash for the Jaguars in the free agency market, but a preseason injury appears likely to strip him of at least half of the regular season by the time he knocks off the rust and starts contributing without any restrictions. Marcedes Lewis ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) and Clay Harbor ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will hold down the fort until then, but you can do much better in FantasyScore elsewhere.
