Jaguars | Julius Thomas to have surgery

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 14:18:57 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (finger) will undergo surgery on his injured finger Wednesday, Sept. 2, according to a source. Thomas is expected to miss four to five weeks.

Fantasy Tip: This injury puts Thomas into low-end TE1 or high-end TE2 territory. Marcedes Lewis and Clay Harbor will take over the reins at tight end, with Lewis holding more fantasy value. Lewis might be a good option on FantasyScore to start the season, but he's not worth drafting in seasonal leagues.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas expected to miss 4-5 weeks

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 13:30:22 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (finger) is expected to need surgery on a tendon in his finger and is expected to be out four to five weeks, according to a source. Thomas will receive a second opinion on his finger Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas suffered an injury in the first preseason game and will miss more time if he needs surgery. Thomas could still be a No. 1 tight end when he returns, but owners will need a strong backup that can fill in while Thomas is out. Marcedes Lewis likely will start with Thomas out but is not a great fantasy option. Clay Harbor could also see an expanded role but probably should be avoided by owners.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas on track for opener

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 09:31:03 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) appears to be on track to play in the team's Week 1 game, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has missed most of the preseason because of a broken hand but should be ready for the season opener. Thomas should receive plenty of targets this season and could be a No. 1 tight end in most leagues.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas limited Tuesday

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 08:27:45 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) is in a red, non-contact jersey at practice Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: It's a good sign to see JT back at practice. Consider him after the elite tight ends are gone in your drafts.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas actually injured right hand

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 05:27:05 -0700

Correcting a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) injured his right hand, and not his left, the team announced Saturday, Aug. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas was already setting up to witness a decline in production with his relocation to Jacksonville. However, he'll also now miss valuable practice time with his new team and in a new offense. It shouldn't be viewed as a serious setback, and Thomas is expected to be ready for Week 1. Still, his fantasy stock is losing serious helium, and it is extremely risky to view Thomas as a weekly staple in your lineup.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas has fractured hand

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 20:39:39 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) has a stable fracture on the back of his left hand, and head coach Gus Bradley said he hopes to have Thomas back by Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Monitor his status in the coming weeks, but it sounds like Thomas could be back sooner rather than. Continue to draft him as a TE1.

Jaguars | Finger fracture for Julius Thomas

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 19:12:14 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (finger) suffered a "small" finger fracture Friday, Aug. 14, according to a source, and more will be known following a scan Saturday, Aug. 15.

Fantasy Tip: A finger fracture isn't a catastrophic injury, but depending on the exact nature of the injury, Thomas could miss some time or at least have some issues catching the ball. Wait for a definite diagnosis, but Thomas should still be viewed as a TE1 for now.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas leaves early

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 16:53:59 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (hand) left the preseason game early Friday, Aug. 14, and is being evaluated for a left hand injury.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to determine the severity of Thomas' injury. Thomas should see a solid amount of targets this season if he is healthy and could be a starting option against most opponents.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas making quick impression

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 17:21:28 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas has already established himself as "the best player on the team, period," according to LB Dan Skuta. "He's going to be a matchup nightmare for a lot of teams," Skuta said Satuday, Aug. 8. "Get him on some guys that aren't used to covering him like me. That's what happens with good players. You've got to be perfect."

Fantasy Tip: Thomas isn't going to put up the same numbers that he did in Denver, but he should immediately become Blake Bortles' go-to target, especially in the red zone, allowing Thomas to retain TE1 status in 2015.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas takes a seat

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 08:44:45 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (back) is out of practice Friday, Aug. 7.

Fantasy Tip: JT should be fine. He loses some luster with the move from Denver to Jacksonville, but he's still a steady TE1 option.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas limited Thursday

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 11:32:58 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (back) missed the last part of practice Thursday, Aug. 6, because of tightness in his back.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas could sit out a practice or two but should be fine moving forward. Thomas was one of the big free-agent additions this offseason and should be featured in the team's passing game. Thomas could still be a No. 1 tight end in fantasy leagues but may lose some value.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas should help in red zone

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 09:46:44 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas is expected to help the offense in the red zone since he caught 13 passes and nine touchdowns in the red zone last season. The Jaguars ranked last in touchdowns (13) and completion percentage (39.1%) in the red zone last season.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas received one of the bigger contracts this offseason and should be one of the main targets in the passing game this season. His fantasy value will take a hit because of his quarterback, but he could still be a No. 1 tight end in most leagues.

Jaguars | Marcedes Lewis to see lesser role

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 19:42:30 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis is in what is expected to be his final season with the team, and with TE Julius Thomas now in the mix Lewis should see time as a blocker and less as a pass catcher.

Fantasy Tip: If Thomas is able to stay healthy then the fantasy appeal for Lewis will be negligible, especially with Clay Harbor projected to be the primary backup.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas sits out

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 09:10:04 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (leg) did not participate in practice Thursday, June 11. Thomas was held out for precautionary reasons.

Fantasy Tip: It does not appear that Thomas is dealing with a serious injury but could be held out until training camp. Thomas may see a small dip in his fantasy value since he joined the Jaguars but should still be a starting option in fantasy leagues.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas has leg bruise

Thu, 28 May 2015 08:34:49 -0700

Jaguars | Julius Thomas, Jags reach agreement

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 19:17:50 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Jacksonville Jaguars and free-agent TE Julius Thomas (Broncos) reached an undisclosed multi-year agreement Monday, March 9, which will pay Thomas around $9 million per season, according to reports.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas is a wealthy man, and his fantasy appeal should remain the same despite the fact he is moving from a Peyton Manning-led offense to one led by Blake Bortles. Thomas will remain in the Top 3 in his position among the fantasy ranks, but a decrease in touchdowns wouldn't be shocking moving from Denver to Jacksonville.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas to sign

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 14:56:55 -0700

Free-agent TE Julius Thomas (Broncos) is set to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to sources. No contract terms were disclosed. The deal cannot be finalized until free agency opens on Tuesday, March 10.

Fantasy Tip: If the news is true, Blake Bortles just landed an offensive weapon for his lineup. Thomas will be among the top tight ends in the NFL next season and should retain most of his fantasy value.

Seahawks | Seattle a dark horse for Julius Thomas?

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 16:06:26 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas could be targeted by the Seattle Seahawks when free agency opens next week.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas is the No. 1 tight end target in free agency this year, and he's one of the most intriguing overall free agents, too. Were Thomas' big numbers the last several years more of a product of Peyton Manning and the Denver offense? Thomas is an imposing physical receiving tight end, so he should have success wherever he goes, but be careful not to overvalue him. In Denver, his fantasy value relied heavily on touchdowns, so if his new team isn't as potent in the red zone, he could be a disappointment as a TE1.

Jaguars | Jaguars gunning for Julius Thomas?

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 18:44:28 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas will be pursued aggressively by the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

Fantasy Tip: The Jaguars need a red zone target for Blake Bortles, and if he ends up in Jacksonville, he should see enough looks to retain his TE1 status, even if his overall numbers decline a bit from the past couple of seasons.

Raiders | Raiders interested in Julius Thomas?

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 18:38:59 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas is drawing interest from the Oakland Raiders, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Tip: If Thomas lands in Oakland, he would immediately become one of Derrick Carr's top targets, especially in the red zone. He probably won't put up the numbers he did in Denver, but Thomas should still be considered a TE1 as long as he remains healthy.

Broncos | Julius Thomas helped in red zone

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 15:21:46 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas could very well be on his way out of Denver this offseason, which would leave a big void for Denver, especially in the red zone. Before Thomas was injured last season, he led the NFL in red zone touchdowns with nine. He was second in the league with a 77 percent touchdown rate in the red zone. Following the injury, the Broncos ended the regular season with a 62 percent touchdown frequency in the red zone.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas will certainly be missed if he does leave Denver, which seems likely. He'll be a big red zone threat no matter who he plays for in 2015 and should retain TE1 status barring any health setbacks this offseason.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas drawing interest in JAX

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 07:01:44 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas is drawing interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars if he reaches free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas' fantasy value would take a sharp hit shifting from one of the best offenses in the league to one of the worst. Regardless of where he lands, he'll be in the top tier of tight ends taken in traditional drafts.

Broncos | Julius Thomas likely leaving Denver?

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 15:20:46 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas is unlikely to be re-signed by the team, as his market value will likely exceed what the Broncos are willing to pay. The Broncos tried to sign Thomas to a five-year, $40 million extension last summer, but he wasn't comfortable with the guaranteed money and structuring.

Fantasy Tip: It'll be interesting to see where Thomas lands if he bolts Denver. Not having Peyton Manning throwing to him could negatively affect his value, which is heavily dependent on touchdowns. Be careful not to overvalue Thomas in this year's drafts if he leaves. If Thomas does leave Denver, Virgil Green will be more heavily involved, as would Jacob Tamme, if they both re-sign. Green is more important to the running game, though. Tamme could be worth a flier as a backup tight end if Manning returns.

Falcons | ATL has interest in Julius Thomas

Fri, 20 Feb 2015 04:12:40 -0800

Free-agent TE Julius Thomas (Broncos) has some likely interest from the Atlanta Falcons, who are looking for an upgrade at the spot this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas only had 489 yards receiving a year ago but he scored 12 touchdowns. There is no question Thomas is one of the top TE threats out there, and he figures to get a ton of free agent interest. Thomas is a strong TE1 option.

Broncos | Denver has no meetings with Julius Thomas

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 16:19:07 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas and his agent, Frank Bauer, don't have any meetings scheduled with the team heading into the NFL Scouting Combine. Apparently Thomas wants to test the free-agent markets when he's eligible March 10.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas might wind up signing a contract extension with the Broncos after he tests the free-agent waters. After all, it might not get better than having Peyton Manning throwing you passes, if Manning in fact returns. Even if Thomas leaves Denver, he should be considered in the top tier (or very near it) of tight ends. Be careful not to overspend in drafts, though, if he enters a less favorable offensive situation on the open market.

Broncos | Long-term deal for Julius Thomas?

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 15:31:50 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas is more likely to receive a long-term deal before the start of free agency March 10 than impending free-agent WR Demaryius Thomas, who is a candidate for the franchise tag. Julius Thomas wants to be compensated as one of the best at his position after becoming the first tight end in history with at least 12 touchdowns in back-to-back seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas is among the better tight end talents for fantasy football owners. If he remains in Denver with Peyton Manning likely returning for another year, he should once again be among the elite tight ends. However, be careful not to overspend for him, as his TDs carry his fantasy value.

Broncos | Julius Thomas looking to get paid

Thu, 12 Feb 2015 06:42:03 -0800

Free-agent TE Julius Thomas' (Broncos) agent has made it clear to the Denver Broncos that Thomas is looking to be among the highest-paid tight ends in the league.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas certainly played like he should be among the richer tight ends last season, but ankle woes have hindered him the last two seasons. He's likely to be among the top three tight ends off the board in traditional drafts.

Broncos | Julius Thomas talks future

Fri, 30 Jan 2015 17:50:30 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Julius Thomas discussed with Woody Paige and Les Shapiro on The Sports Show Friday, Jan. 30, the chances of him returning to the Broncos. "I really don't know. To be perfectly honest, it hasn't even been discussed for me yet," Thomas said. He did go on to say he'd love to come back, but he mentioned there are several important factors when determining where he'll sign.

Fantasy Tip: Until we know where Thomas signs, his value remains up in the air for the 2015 fantasy football season.

Broncos | Julius Thomas skipping Pro Bowl

Mon, 19 Jan 2015 19:26:39 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) will not participate in the 2015 Pro Bowl, and he will be replaced by Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has been one of the top tight ends in football the last couple of seasons, but he is going to be a free agent, and his value could take a significant hit if Peyton Manning decides to retire or if he signs with another team.

Broncos | Probable status for Julius Thomas

Fri, 09 Jan 2015 13:08:19 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) practiced in full for the third straight day Friday, Jan. 9, and is probable for the divisional round game against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, Jan. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) hasn't done much at all since injuring his ankle more than a month ago against the St. Louis Rams. It'd be a big leap of faith to trust him at FantasyScore this weekend against the Colts, even though he put up three touchdowns against the same team back in Week 1.

Broncos | Full practice for Julius Thomas

Thu, 08 Jan 2015 13:28:24 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Jan. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Peyton Manning isn't the only Broncos player that was helped by the team's bye week. Thomas ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) also rested up last week and appears closer to full strength. However, are you willing to risk finding out if he's back to top form in daily games when you could easily go with Rob Gronkowski or Jason Witten? So much has changed since Orange Julius scored three TDs against the Indianapolis Colts back in the season opener.

Broncos | Julius Thomas feeling better

Tue, 06 Jan 2015 13:09:22 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) said the team's off week last week was big for him to be able to rest his ankle injury heading into the divisional round matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. "I feel better," Thomas said following Monday's workout. "(I was) able to loosen things up a little bit and start to have a little more movement out there, so it's definitely coming along." Thomas scored three touchdowns against the Colts in Week 1 when he was fully healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) has been an afterthought since returning from his injury, and he wasn't even targeted by Peyton Manning in the regular season finale against the Oakland Raiders. This weekend against the Colts, don't expect Thomas to be as involved as he was in the first matchup against Indy, and he remains a pretty risky FantasyScore selection for the time being, despite the good matchup against the Colts.

Broncos | Julius Thomas hoping to return to form

Tue, 30 Dec 2014 12:45:35 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) is hoping an extra week off will help him with his ankle rehab. Thomas has just three catches since spraining his ankle in Week 11 after catching 12 touchdowns in the first nine games. "I definitely needed this bye," Thomas said. "I'm looking forward to it. It'll just give me an opportunity to focus on rehab. When you're practicing and playing, it's kind of hard. It's a little bit of give and take. So this next week, it'll be big for me from a recovery standpoint." Thomas thinks he'll have more of an impact in the team's next game with the extra rest, and he plans on "looking like the guy I used to be."

Fantasy Tip: Thomas hasn't helped his fantasy football owners out at all in the last month-plus. The extra rest could do him wonders, though, and there may not be many playable FantasyScore tight ends to choose from next weekend aside from Thomas.

Broncos | Julius Thomas expected to play

Fri, 26 Dec 2014 15:59:21 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) practiced in full Friday, Dec. 26, and is probable for Week 17 against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas appears to be nearing full health, but he remains a bit of a question mark in the team's suspect passing offense of late. However, the nice matchup against the Raiders could propel him to have his best game since spraining his ankle over a month ago.

Broncos | Full practice for Julius Thomas

Thu, 25 Dec 2014 15:31:21 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 25.

Broncos | Julius Thomas a full participant

Wed, 24 Dec 2014 15:52:45 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) practiced in full Wednesday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas caught only two passes Monday night, but the good news is he was targeted six times. He looks to be getting closer to full health with his ankle, so he should be considered at FantasyScore, especially since he had two TDs the first time Denver played the Oakland Raiders.

Broncos | Julius Thomas aggravates ankle

Tue, 23 Dec 2014 10:36:41 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) was in and out of the game in Week 17 against the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, Dec. 22, after aggravating his ankle injury.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($5,555) had just two catches (six targets) for 33 yards in the loss Monday night. He hasn't looked right since injuring his ankle over a month ago, and he probably shouldn't even be trusted again next week at FantasyScore against the Oakland Raiders.

Broncos | Julius Thomas probable for Monday

Sat, 20 Dec 2014 12:15:58 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) is probable for Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($6,500) is a risky play this week versus a tough defense against tight ends. He hasn't scored since Week 10 and the Cincinnati Bengals have allowed just five touchdowns to the position through 14 games.

Broncos | Demaryius, Julius Thomas practice in full

Fri, 19 Dec 2014 13:21:57 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (ankle) and TE Julius Thomas (ankle) both practiced in full for the second straight day Friday, Dec. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Both Thomases should be on the field Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals. Demaryius Thomas ($8,100) is the safer play, even if the Broncos continue to run the ball more. Julius Thomas ($6,500) could be getting closer to 100 percent health, but he remains a bit of a risk until we see results on the field.

Broncos | Julius Thomas back to full health?

Fri, 19 Dec 2014 11:16:39 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) looks closer to 100 percent at practice Friday, Dec. 19, than he has at any time since suffering his left ankle injury against the St. Louis Rams.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas' FantasyScore price has dropped since his injury, and he now costs just $6,500. It may be the time to take a chance on him again in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals if he's back to full health.

Broncos | Julius Thomas played limited snaps

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 15:47:51 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) played just 29 snaps in Week 15; only ten of them were pass routes, according to Pro Football Focus.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($6,500, 13%) hasn't scored since Week 10 and is somewhat of a liability on FantasyScore nowadays with the team's increased focus on the running game.

Broncos | Demaryius, Julius Thomas full participants

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 15:32:23 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (ankle) and TE Julius Thomas (ankle) both practiced in full Thursday, Dec. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Both Thomases' fantasy values have been hurting recently because of the Broncos' lack of passing lately. Julius Thomas ($6,500) has seen his FantasyScore salary drop due to injury, too. Starting Julius Thomas probably is still a bit of a risk, but it was nice to see him play more snaps in Week 15. Demaryius Thomas ($8,100) may be too expensive for our taste if the Broncos continue to favor the running game.

Broncos | Virgil Green continues to play

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 14:21:23 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Virgil Green continued to lead the team's tight ends in snaps with 50 in Week 15 against the San Diego Chargers, even with TE Julius Thomas (ankle) back on the field. Thomas played just 29 snaps in his first game back from injury. OT Chris Clark also lined up as an extra tight end for seven snaps in the team's first two possessions. TE Dominique Jones played four snaps at tight end.

Fantasy Tip: Green's excellent run-blocking ability has led to his increased playing time, as well as Thomas' injury. Thomas ($6,500) should start to see more snaps as he gets closer to 100 percent health, though. Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals may not be the time to put full trust back in Thomas, though, as the Bengals have held tight ends to an average of just 3.48 fantasy points in the last four weeks.

Broncos | Julius Thomas to have full workload?

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 13:01:12 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) had a full practice Friday, Dec. 12, his first full workout since suffering a left ankle injury Nov. 16 in the loss to the St. Louis Rams. Thomas was active in Week 14 but didn't play a single snap, and he's probable for Week 15 against the San Diego Chargers. Unless he suffers a setback in pre-game workouts, Thomas is expected to play against the Chargers and have close to his usual workload.

Fantasy Tip: Surely a full workload will make those wondering whether to spend $6,500 on Thomas at FantasyScore more comfortable with that decision. However, it remains to be seen if that'll be the case. Until we know more, consider Thomas a pretty risky option for your tight end spot.

Broncos | Julius Thomas should play

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 11:12:53 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) is listed as probable for Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas should be part of the offense after not receiving any offensive snaps in Week 14. Thomas will be facing a San Diego Chargers defense that has struggled against tight ends over the past two weeks. Thomas is an attractive option on FantasyScore if owners are willing to pay $6,500 for him.

Broncos | Julius Thomas remains limited

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 14:31:18 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) continued to practice on a limited basis Thursday, Dec. 11, but he said he has had "a much better week" than recent weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($6,500) remains a pretty risky commodity at FantasyScore, even though he was active last week. Thomas didn't play a single snap in Week 14, and he could be severely limited against the San Diego Chargers if he does play. Jacob Tamme is also banged up and isn't guaranteed to play in Week 15.
