Cardinals | Rob Housler's blocking a concern

Thu, 03 Jul 2014 13:16:15 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE Rob Housler's blocking ability could be a concern, given what head coach Bruce Arians expects from the tight end position. Housler is an excellent route runner and pass catcher, but Arians wants his tight ends to also be bruising blockers off the line.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals tight end corps is deep, and although Housler is the best pure fantasy option because of his pass-catching ability, he is a low-end TE2, at best. The potential of losing snaps makes him undraftable at this stage.

Cardinals | John Carlson impressing

Thu, 03 Jul 2014 13:14:48 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE John Carlson has been the tight end who impressed the most during organized team activities and minicamp. Head coach Bruce Arians complimented Carlson's ability to pick up the system quickly, his speed and hands, and he considers Carlson an adequate blocker. Arians wants physical tight ends who are capable blockers. Carlson will compete for targets with TEs Rob Housler, Jake Ballard and Troy Niklas (hand).

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals tight end corps has too many options to be able to rely on any of them as a weekly fantasy option, at least at this point.

Cardinals | Expected to keep four TEs

Thu, 12 Jun 2014 15:48:19 -0700

The Arizona Cardinals are expected to keep four tight ends on their roster. Head coach Bruce Arians feels the team probably has too many legitimate options to keep them all. TEs John Carlson, Jake Ballard, Rob Housler and Troy Niklas (hand) are the favorites to make the roster.

Cardinals | Rob Housler having good offseason

Fri, 06 Jun 2014 12:27:09 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE Rob Housler has had a fantastic offseason, according to head coach Bruce Arians. Housler, who battled an ankle injury last season, is in the final year of his rookie contract and will compete with TEs John Carlson, rookie Troy Niklas and Jake Ballard for playing time.

Fantasy Tip: Housler won’t be expected to catch a lot of passes and hasn’t proven himself as a blocker, and considering his injury history and the team’s depth at tight end, it’s best to leave Housler alone.

Cardinals | Rob Housler breaks out

Tue, 12 Nov 2013 11:22:20 -0800

Arizona Cardinals TE Rob Housler had a season-high 57 yards and his first career touchdown in the team's Week 10 win over the Houston Texans. Housler was slowed by an ankle injury in the preseason that had him get off to a slow start this year, but now that the offense appears to finally be clicking, he may be involved more. "It should be a great confidence boost for him," head coach Bruce Arians said. "Carson was looking for him a number of times."

Fantasy Tip: Housler's big day was dependent upon his score, though, so he doesn't suddenly become a tight end worthy of owning. However, it could be the first sign that he'll be more productive in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on him.

Cardinals | Rob Housler expected to play

Fri, 20 Sep 2013 13:08:23 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE Rob Housler (ankle) is expected to make his season debut against the New Orleans Saints in Week 3 after missing the first two games with a high ankle sprain. "It's one thing running - he can run - it's another thing pushing against big bodies with those ankles," head coach Bruce Arians stated. "You never know how that's going to turn out."

Fantasy Tip: This isn't a ringing endorsement for Housler. Leave him to the waiver wire for now, but he could become a weak TE2 at some point this season when he's fully healthy.

Cardinals | Rob Housler not worried about touches

Wed, 21 Aug 2013 09:46:25 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE Rob Housler has managed zero catches in two preseason games, and he has been targeted only once. However, he isn't concerned about his involvement so far. "I'm not worried about the numbers right now," Housler said Tuesday, Aug. 20. "I've never complained about targets or receptions. The outside perception may see the numbers and may see maybe a question mark there, but I don't."

Fantasy Tip: Housler has been viewed as a deep sleeper for fantasy owners, but even at a shallow position, his average draft position (ADP) hasn't even made him a Top 20 option at TE. At this point, he should only be relied upon as a bye-week or injury replacement.

Cardinals | Rob Housler on the brink of breakout?

Tue, 09 Jul 2013 15:48:38 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE Rob Housler could have a big role in the offense this year and ranks as a breakout candidate. Head coach Bruce Arians said he saw Housler as a big receiver, potentially as opposed to a tight end, when he came out of college.

Fantasy Tip: Arians' mixed record on using tight ends causes us to temper our expectations here, but the fact that Housler resembles more of a wideout than a true tight end should work in his favor, ala Dwayne Allen last year in Indy. Housler could offer some allure as a TE2 in leagues where carrying a pair is logical.

Cardinals | Rob Housler likely to be used frequently

Wed, 19 Jun 2013 18:54:45 -0700

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians likes the pass-catching ability of TE Rob Housler, and his time on the field is likely to be dictated on how much his pass-blocking has improved. TEs Jeff King, Jim Dray and D.C. Jefferson are behind him on the depth chart.

Cardinals | Rob Housler could be sleeper in 2013

Tue, 26 Mar 2013 18:28:30 -0700

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said Tuesday, March 26, that he considered drafting TE Rob Housler when Arians was a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staff with the idea of turning Housler into a big wide receiver. He sees Housler as a mismatch for defenses.

Fantasy Tip: Housler has shown some ability in the past, but he has been a fringe fantasy player. If Arians follows through and gives Housler a bigger piece of the offensive pie in 2013, the former Florida Atlantic University standout could be a nice sleeper heading into Draft Day for fantasy owners.
