Diamondbacks | Quintet of Arizona hitters catch a break

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 12:02:26 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt, OF David Peralta, 2B Jean Segura, OF Socrates Brito and C Welington Castillo are not in the lineup on Sunday, April 17, against San Diego Padres SP Robbie Erlin. 2B/OF Rickie Weeks will start in left and bat second, INF Phil Gosselin will play first base and hit third, INF/OF Brandon Drury will move to second base and bat fifth, OF Chris Owings will man center and bat seventh while C Chris Herrmann will set up behind the plate and hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: For some perspective on how much offensive firepower Arizona is resting on Sunday, Yasmany Tomas moves up from eighth in Saturday's lineup to fourth in today's order. In the wake of last night's 14-inning marathon, the most recommended plays could the pitchers (Erlin and Patrick Corbin), each of whom will face a lineup missing about a good chunk of its regular hitters.

Diamondbacks | Paul Goldschmidt slugs third homer

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 16:33:28 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt hit his third home run of the season Tuesday, April 12, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. For the game, he was 1-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Even though he's hitting only .267, owners have to be happy with his power numbers thus far, as not only does he have three home runs in eight games, but he's also posted nine RBI to begin the new campaign as well. In other words, he's still performing like one of the most valuable players in all of fantasy baseball.

Diamondbacks | Paul Goldschmidt excels vs. Rockies

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 11:32:27 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt has reached base safely in 37 straight games against the Colorado Rockies, which is one shy of a team record against any opponent.

Fantasy Tip: What's new? Goldschmidt is a beast at the plate and was in consideration for the No. 1 overall fantasy pick this year. He is a must-start at all times and is worth paying up for today against Tyler Chatwood, who is making his first start since 2014 after two Tommy John surgeries.

Arizona Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt is not starting Sunday, Sept. 27, against the San Diego Padres. 1B Yasmany Tomas is hitting sixth against Padres SP James Shields.

Fantasy Tip: Goldschmidt ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is getting a normal day off despite the fact he has been hot down the stretch and hot against Shields (.500 average, 4-for-8). Tomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is not worth the price as he has little luck against Shields.

Fantasy Tip: Goldschmidt ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) loves the Dodger Stadium atmosphere, but the reality is Goldschmidt is hitting well as of late (.364 in past seven days). He is hitting .469 at Dodger Stadium, making him an automatic FantasyScore start.

Diamondbacks | Paul Goldschmidt will rest more in 2016

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 12:05:13 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt is expected to receive more games off during the 2016 season, according to manager Chip Hale. "His numbers obviously tailed off," Hale said. "Physically, you have to wear down. It's 162 games and he plays almost every day. We'll have a lot of discussions next year on where we can strategically give him days off physically."

Fantasy Tip: Goldschmidt ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) posted a .340/.455/.610 slash line in the first half, but he has only returned a .278/.402/.459 line since the All-Star break. His seven home runs and 30 RBI are also let-down marks given his ability. Fantasy owners should happily trade the odd game off for more consistent results, and Goldschmidt remains a top-tier hitter and first-round selection in all formats next spring.
