Cardinals | Matt Carpenter not starting Tuesday

Tue, 19 May 2015 12:52:00 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 19, against the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) looks like he is just out of the lineup for a night off and nothing more, so rest him for today. Pete Kozma ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is at third and batting eighth. He has little fantasy value, if any.

Cardinals | Rested Matt Carpenter has good game

Tue, 12 May 2015 20:01:56 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter (rest) returned to the lineup Tuesday, May 12, against the Cleveland Indians. He went 2-for-5 with an RBI single in his return after missing three games due to fatigue.

Fantasy Tip: It appears safe to trust Carpenter ($5,400; or 10.8% of cap) in FantasyScore again.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter feeling much better

Tue, 12 May 2015 16:59:25 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter said he was feeling much better Tuesday, May 12, after being held out of action over the weekend with extreme fatigue. Carpenter was back in the lineup in the two-hole and playing third base Tuesday. "My body wasn't working on all cylinders. I just did not feel good," Carpenter said. "The medical staff decided and thought it was a good idea to take this time off. At the time I didn't agree with it, but now I think it was much needed."

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) makes his owners happy by returning to the lineup Tuesday, but the Cardinals will monitor his workload moving forward, and he could see more frequent days off for the rest of the year to preserve him. He's 0-for-3 right now with a strikeout in tonight's game, and you may want to stay away from him at FantasyScore for a few days until he's back in the flow and performing at a high level.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter day-to-day

Tue, 12 May 2015 10:33:14 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter (dehydration) rejoined the team and will be available Tuesday, May 12, against the Cleveland Indians. Carpenter felt better after being treated for "extreme fatigue," and the team will likely monitor his workload. Carpenter will probably have to complete some workouts before the game before being in the lineup. The team will have the DH for the next three games, and Carpenter could be used there if he's fit to return.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,400, 10.8% of your cap) is a nightly consideration on FantasyScore when he returns to the lineup.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter update

Tue, 12 May 2015 09:50:25 -0700

Updating previous reports, St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter took a blood test recently, as the team was very concerned with his condition and a lot of the symptoms he was showing. He has been dealing with light-headedness, dizziness and an elevated heart rate. Carpenter has the right to privacy about his medical condition, so not much is known about his condition right now. "Matt's flying (to Cleveland) today...and will be available for tonight's game. They're gonna run him through the usual...take BP, run on the field, whatever they need to do to determine if he's ready to play," St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold said. "They do have the DH available...so they could have him hit and not go onto the field. Mozeliak suggested it should be 'business as usual' pretty soon for Matt Carpenter."

Fantasy Tip: Until Carpenter's ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) test results are available and we know more about what is causing him "extreme fatigue," fantasy owners are really in the dark here. However, the Red Birds are optimistic that he'll rejoin the team this week, but it remains to be seen how much he'll play or how he'll fare. Play it safe at FantasyScore and avoid Carpenter for now.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter a game-time decision?

Tue, 12 May 2015 09:01:14 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter's status for the game against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, May 12, is undecided, and general manager John Mozeliak said manager Mike Matheny will decide if Carpenter starts Tuesday. Carpenter has a .333 average and is tied for the league lead with 14 doubles. The team will monitor Carpenter closely.

Fantasy Tip: To be safe at FantasyScore, you may want to avoid Carpenter ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) for your lineups against Indians starter Carlos Carrasco. Carpenter missed the entire weekend series due to extreme fatigue and dehydration. Make sure he's back in the lineup and gets a game back under his belt first.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter expected back Tuesday

Mon, 11 May 2015 13:10:58 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter will rejoin the team for their game against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, May 12, according to general manager John Mozeliak.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has missed the past four games because of extreme fatigue. It wasn't interfering with his bat, though. While there is a cause for caution, FantasyScore players will be fading Carpenter at their own risk. He has been a top-tier contributor in all fantasy formats thus far.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter to return Tuesday

Sun, 10 May 2015 11:57:48 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter (illness) is expected to be ready to resume playing when he rejoins the team on their road trip Tuesday, May 12, against the Cleveland Indians. He has been given four consecutive games off after experiencing dizziness, difficulty sleeping and an elevated heart rate last week.

Fantasy Tip: The Cards officially described Carpenter's ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) illness as "extreme fatigue" and manager Mike Matheny said he didn't believe it was related to a cardiovascular issue. FantasyScore owners should avoid using Carpenter until he has proven he is completely healthy.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter out this weekend

Fri, 08 May 2015 14:21:57 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is out this entire weekend with what the team is calling "extreme fatigue."

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps back-to-back seasons of 700-plus plate appearances is wearing on the small from of Carpenter. In any case, Pete Kozma ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is starting at third base Friday night and could see increased playing time, especially if Carpenter is out past this weekend. Mark Reynolds could also be an option for starts at the hot corner. If you own Carpenter in traditional leagues, plan for an extended absence just in case.
