Cardinals | Matt Carpenter earns weekly honors

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 13:55:03 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter earned National League Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career. He led the majors with seven doubles and hit .480 last week. He is also tops in the NL with 22 total bases and second with a .880 slugging percentage. He had five RBI and four runs scored last week. Carpenter has seven straight multi-hit games with at least one extra-base hit, which is the longest streak since Paul Molitor did it in 1991.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is a great FantasyScore option right now while he's in a stride at the plate.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter tearing up homestand

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 17:24:09 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter hit a home run Sunday, April 19, against Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake. The homer was Carpenter's eighth extra-base hit of the Cardinals' seven-game homestand.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has gotten off to a very impressive start to the 2015 MLB season. Carpenter's slugging percentage was at .619 entering Sunday, nearly .200 points above his career average. Carpenter owners should be trying to sell high, but he'll remain an excellent FatasyScore option so long as he's on the hot streak.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter removed as precaution

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 15:40:44 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter (quadriceps) left the game early because of a right quadriceps contusion Wednesday, March 25, when he was hit by a pitch. Manager Mike Matheny said Carpenter was removed as a precaution.

Fantasy Tip: A bit of a down year in 2014 for Carpenter will have him as somewhat of a value in fantasy drafts in 2015. Look to take him in the later rounds as your third baseman. Hitting atop a solid lineup in St. Louis should continue to make him pretty productive across the board, minus power.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter trying to stay balanced

Mon, 02 Mar 2015 15:13:17 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is looking for a balanced approach in the leadoff spot after he led the league in hits in 2013 and led the league in walks last season. "Now, it's finding the perfect balance to where I'm swinging the bat, I'm being aggressive, I'm trying to do damage, but at the same time, I'm a guy who can walk a lot, get on base and set the tone as a leadoff hitter. I think that's part of growing up as a baseball player. You learn and you adapt and you continue to try to figure out who you are as a hitter," Carpenter said. He became more aggressive in the playoffs, and that led to four home runs and four doubles in nine playoff games.

Fantasy Tip: Look to buy low on Carpenter as your fantasy third sacker in the later rounds of standard mixed leagues. Carpenter will never be a source of power at third base, but there is room for profit this year after a down year in 2014.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter could be moved out of leadoff spot

Sun, 16 Nov 2014 10:12:08 -0800

The St. Louis Cardinals are considering moving 3B Matt Carpenter out of the leadoff spot, in an effort to upgrade their offense. Carpenter could be moved to the No. 2 spot in the batting order, where some members of the organization believe the best hitter should hit, or he could be dropped to the No. 3 spot, with OF Matt Holliday becoming the cleanup hitter. "He's been so successful in the one hole," general John Mozeliak said. "He gets on base and along with that all of the positives of a leadoff hitter. But moving him deeper into that lineup is something that (manager Mike Matheny) has thought about in terms of implementing. It's just he and I talking out loud right now."
