Royals | Salvador Perez smashes homer

Tue, 12 Jul 2016 20:39:02 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez cracked a two-run home run in the All-Star Game Tuesday, July 12, but he narrowly missed out on MVP honors to teammate 1B Eric Hosmer.

Fantasy Tip: Perez pulled into the break with a .283 average, 14 homers, 41 RBIs and an .818 OPS in the first half. He is on pace to eclipse his career high of 21 homers set last season, and he needs 39 RBIs for a new career best. He remains a top-notch fantasy receiver in most formats and DFS play heading into the second half.

Royals | Alex Gordon returns to lineup Sunday

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 08:43:21 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon will bat seventh and start in left field against Seattle Mariners SP Mike Montgomery Sunday, July 10. C Salvador Perez will bat second and serve as the designated hitter, while C Drew Butera starts behind the plate and bats ninth. DH/OF Kendrys Morales will bat third and play first base, with 1B Eric Hosmer receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is just 4-for-28 at the plate this month and is batting .201 through 194 at-bats entering play Sunday, so he should be avoided in all formats. Butera is batting .286 with two home runs and eight RBI through 56 at-bats this season and should be viewed as a productive source of cap relief in DFS.

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 20:42:37 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez hit a game-winning, two-run double in a 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners Thursday, July 7, finishing 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Perez snapped a six-game hitless streak in a big way. He is still hitting .276 for the year, and he remains one of the top fantasy catchers because of his solid bat and durability.

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez is receiving the day off against Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez Sunday, July 3. C Drew Butera will bat eighth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Butera, a career .192 hitter, is doing surprisingly well at the plate this season. He is 16-for-53 (.302) with seven doubles, two home runs and eight RBI and is worth considering as an inexpensive flier in daily fantasy games.

Royals | Salvador Perez sitting vs. Cards

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 13:32:34 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 28. C Drew Butera is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Perez remains one of the best fantasy backstops in the game. Sub him out where you can in seasonal leagues. Butera has been excellent this season with a .306/.358/.571 slash line over 54 plate appearances, but he is still nothing more than a flier in daily contests and a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues because of his limited playing time.

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored Saturday, June 18, against the Detroit Tigers to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

Fantasy Tip: Perez is hitting a cool .450 (18-for-40) with eight runs scored, five homers and 10 RBIs during his impressive hitting streak. He remains a tremendous low-end No. 1 receiver across most fantasy formats and DFS play.

Royals | Salvador Perez homers again Wednesday

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 20:38:42 -0700

Kansas City Royals C/DH Salvador Perez hit a three-run homer against the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, June 15. It was his 11th of the season and marked the second time in as many games that he homered.

Fantasy Tip: Perez received a break from the rigors of catching Wednesday, since he was pencilled into the lineup as the designated hitter. He is batting .293 with 32 RBI through 57 games and should continue to be viewed as one of the top catching options in fantasy baseball.

Royals | Three KC regulars taking a seat

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 15:02:08 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando and 1B Kendrys Morales are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 15. OF Whit Merrifield is in left field and hitting leadoff, OF Reymond Fuentes is starting in right field and batting seventh and C Drew Butera is doing the catching and hitting ninth with C Salvador Perez serving as the designated hitter. Also, 2B Christian Colon is starting at the keystone and is hitting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber.

Fantasy Tip: Merrifield has become a start in KC in short order with a .326 average (31-for-95), and he's homered in back-to-back games for his first two big league long balls. While he's hot, continue using him as a value pick in DFS. He's also worth adding for depth in deep mixed and AL-only leagues with everyday playing time. Fuentes, Butera and Colon all profile as low-end dart throws as deep sleepers in DFS.
