Sun, 02 Aug 2015 09:26:56 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Vidal Nuno will make a spot start Tuesday, Aug. 4, against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Nuno hasn't started this season, and he should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Diamondbacks | Arizona acquires Welington Castillo

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 16:35:22 -0700

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired C Welington Castillo and RP Dominic Leone, SS Jack Reinheimer and OF Gabriel Guerrero Wednesday, June 3, in exchange for OF Mark Trumbo and RP Vidal Nuno.

Fantasy Tip: If not immediately, Castillo ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) projects to take over as the everyday catcher for Arizona sooner than later, and he has a respectable bat. From 2012 to 2014, Castillo had a .257/.326/.398 slash line over 1035 plate appearances. He'll remain a matchup play, at best, for FantasyScore players, but Castillo is a low-end option in two-catcher, NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues. With Trumbo out of the picture, Yasmany Tomas should also receive close to everyday at-bats, and he should be owned in the majority of year-long leagues.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo acquired by M's

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 16:30:55 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Mark Trumbo was acquired by the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, June 3. RP Vidal Nuno was also sent to Seattle in exchange for C Welington Castillo, RP Dominic Leone, SS Jack Reinheimer and OF Gabriel Guerrero.

Fantasy Tip: Other than Nelson Cruz, the Mariners have lacked significant punch in their lineup, especially in the outfield. Trumbo ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) joins a much less crowded outfield picture, which is good news for consistent playing time. However, a move to pitcher-friendly Safeco Field will put a damper on his fantasy value, although it probably won't drastically affect it. Trumbo is worth a significant bid in AL-only leagues if you're in need of power.

Diamondbacks | Enrique Burgos to DL

Tue, 26 May 2015 13:37:57 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Enrique Burgos (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to right shoulder tendonitis Tuesday, May 26. The team recalled RP Vidal Nuno from Class AAA Reno in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: With Brad Ziegler locking down the closing job for the time being, coupled with Burgos' injury, you can drop him in most fantasy formats now. Addison Reed could eventually work his way back into ninth-inning duties, but it'll likely take a stumble from Ziegler for that to happen.

Diamondbacks | AZ has competition for rotation spots

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 12:23:52 -0800

As many as 10 pitchers could be competing for the final three spots in the Arizona Diamondbacks' starting rotation. SPs Josh Collmenter and Jeremy Hellickson are expected to win the first two spots in the rotation, although nothing is etched in stone. SPs Chase Anderson, Archie Bradley, Trevor Cahill, Andrew Chafin, Rubby De La Rosa, Randall Delgado, Daniel Hudson, Vidal Nuno, Robbie Ray and Allen Webster are vying for the other spots, although several of these pitchers could wind up in the bullpen or the minor leagues.

Diamondbacks | Rotation up for grabs

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 00:58:44 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Josh Collmenter and SP Jeremy Hellickson will likely open the season in the starting rotation, but a wide variety of pitchers are in contention for the final three spots. SP Trevor Cahill and SP Vidal Nuno have the most major league experience. SP's Chase Anderson, Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Webster, and Robbie Ray received looks last season. Top SP prospect Archie Bradley will probably open the year in the minors. Other candidates include P's Andrew Chafin, Randall Delgado, and Daniel Hudson.

Yankees | Acquire Brandon McCarthy

Sun, 06 Jul 2014 08:13:58 -0700

The New York Yankees acquired SP Brandon McCarthy from the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday, July 6, for SP Vidal Nuno.

Fantasy Tip: Even pitching at Yankee Stadium with that less than desirable infield defense, the ground-balling McCarthy should see his value rise over the rest of the season, if only from positive statistical corrections. Nuno is NL-only fodder.
