The New York Yankees have signed 2B Dean Anna and SP Vidal Nuno. Anna would make the league minimum ($500,000) if he ends up in the majors and Nuno would make $504,500.

The fifth starter job for the New York Yankees will be a battle between SP Vidal Nuno, David Phelps, Michael Pineda and Adam Warren. Pineda declined to handicap the race when asked Monday, Feb. 10. "I don't know. I'm not really paying attention (to whether) I'm the favorite or not," Pineda said. "I'm focused on my job and doing good and making it through spring training."
Fantasy Tip: Normally the fifth starter job has limited fantasy appeal in most leagues, but the winner of the job in New York has a little more value due to their top-to-bottom lineup and strong offensive support. The situation will be a fun battle to watch during camp.

The New York Yankees have just two pitchers locked into spots for the rotation in 2014, SPs CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova. SP Andy Pettitte has retired, and SPs Hiroki Kuroda and Phil Hughes are impending free agents. The team is hopeful Michael Pineda will be able to lock up a spot in spring training, and SPs Vidal Nuno, David Phelps and Adam Warren are other potential candidates to compete for spots barring any help from outside of the organization.

The New York Yankees activated 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) and 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) from the disabled list Friday, May 31, and optioned SPs Ivan Nova and Vidal Nuno to the minors in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Get Tex and Youk back into your starting lineups. Youkilis is still available in less than 50 percent of leagues. He should be owned, considering the lack of depth at the third base position. Youkilis is serving as the designated hitter, with David Adams at third base.

New York Yankees SP David Phelps will stay in the rotation. SPs Ivan Nova and Vidal Nuno were options to replace him, but manager Joe Girardi has elected to stay with Phelps.
Fantasy Tip: Phelps had a disastrous outing against the Mets yesterday, allowing five runs (four earned) and four hits in just a third of an inning. He's been decent in May besides that, though, convincing Girardi that he deserves to stick around a little longer. In deep leagues, he can be useful in spot duty.

New York Yankees SP Andy Pettitte (back) will return from the disabled list to start Monday, June 3.
Fantasy Tip: Vidal Nuno, who is making a start this weekend, will likely be sent back to the minors when Pettitte returns. Pettitte remains useful in matchup plays in deep mixed leagues.
