Orioles | Jonathan Schoop staying in minors

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 13:42:36 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (knee) will rehab with Class A Frederick this week.

Fantasy Tip: Schoop ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is nearing the end of his rehab window, and he could come off the DL to join the Orioles later this week. Expect him to see plenty of starts at second base when he's back, hurting the fantasy value of Ryan Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap). Schoop is more attractive to owners in deep mixed and AL-only leagues and has more offensive upside than Flaherty.

Orioles | Jonathan Schoop could return soon

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 17:50:09 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (knee) worked out Monday, June 29, with vice president of baseball operations Brady Anderson. Schoop might continue his rehab assignment with Class A Frederick rather than Triple-A Norfolk. "I know every day that passes we feel better about Jon's recovery, so he's getting something from it. He's already had, I think Brady said, 60 plate appearances," manager Buck Showalter said.

Fantasy Tip: Schoop ($2,100; or 4.2% of cap) appears to be closing in on a return at or before the July 4 holiday. Before trusting him in FantasyScore, have him play a game or two with the big club without any setbacks.

Orioles | Jonathan Schoop nearing return

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 13:35:54 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (knee) will play another rehab game for Class AA Bowie Friday, June 26, and won't come off the disabled list before Monday, June 29, unless OF Adam Jones (shoulder) goes on the DL this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Owners in deep mixed and AL-only leagues looking for middle infield help should check to see if Schoop ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) was dropped by his previous owner. Schoop has been hitting well lately on his rehab assignment and should at least split time with Ryan Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) at the keystone when he returns.

Orioles | O's not rushing Jonathan Schoop

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 15:33:04 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (knee) is playing his fifth straight game for Class AA Bowie Tuesday, June 23, but the Orioles aren't putting a timetable on his return. Manager Buck Showalter said Schoop could probably rejoin the team now, but there is no need to rush him. Schoop is playing good defense and was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and three RBI Monday, June 22.

Fantasy Tip: Schoop ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) should be on your radar if you're looking for middle infield help in deep mixed or AL-only leagues. However, it's unclear how much he'll play when he returns, and he could split time at the keystone with Ryan Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap). Schoop is the more intriguing fantasy asset with more offensive upside.

Orioles | Jonathan Schoop set for rehab

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 22:07:44 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (knee) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment Friday, June 19, for Double-A Bowie. "We're not going to activate him until we're 100 percent sure," manager Buck Showalter said.

Fantasy Tip: Until Schoop is able to return, Ryan Flaherty ($1,800; or 3.6% of cap) will continue to see regular at-bats.

Orioles | Jonathan Schoop nearing rehab assignment

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 12:31:39 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (knee) said he will begin his rehab assignment with Class AA Bowie Friday, June 19, as long as everything goes well with his workouts this week. He added his knee feels stronger than ever.

Fantasy Tip: Schoop ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is worth owning in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, but until his playing time and role with the Orioles is clearer, he can be left on the waiver wire in most formats. His power upside will make him an upside FantasyScore play at his cap hit when he is in the starting lineup, too.

Orioles | Updated Jonathan Schoop timeline

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 13:44:39 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (knee) will work out with the Orioles Monday, June 15, through Thursday, June 18, and then he could report to Class AA Bowie and potentially begin his rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Schoop ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) warrants considering in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, but he can be left on the waiver wire in most formats. He has some pop, which could be useful for FantasyScore players seeking cap relief when he is in the starting lineup, too. Continue to check back for updates on his recovery and return timetable. Just know, there is really no indication how frequently he'll play once he returns.

Orioles | Jonathan Schoop slides for first time

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 16:18:41 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (knee) slid for the first time Wednesday, June 10, at extended spring training. He hasn't been cleared to play second base in games, but he is still expected to come off the disabled list before the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Schoop's ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) playing time is completely up in the air at this point, as is his specific return date. He is worth considering in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, but can be left to the waiver wire in the majority of formats. He has some pop, which could be useful for FantasyScore players seeking cap relief when he returns and is in the lineup. He is still out for awhile longer, though.

Orioles | Jonathan Schoop could return before break

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 15:43:14 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (knee) could return before the All-Star break, according to manager Buck Showalter. Schoop is already playing in extended spring training games.

Fantasy Tip: There's no guarantee that Schoop ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) will play often when he returns, and the better bet is that he'll be involved in some sort of platoon, possibly with Steve Pearce or Ryan Flaherty. That'll make him strictly a commodity for middle infield depth in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Orioles | Jonathan Schoop progressing

Fri, 15 May 2015 13:47:29 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (knee) will begin baseball activities Saturday, May 16, and he will meet the team in Miami next week to work out and determine when he can begin a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Schoop ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is still a few weeks away from contributing in fantasy leagues. He has great pop for a middle infielder, but his inconsistent contact skills make him a high-risk, high-reward option for FantasyScore contests.
