Indians | More on Danny Salazar's struggles

Wed, 23 Apr 2014 13:33:49 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar said he has struggled with tipping pitches in the past and may be experiencing similar problems now. He watched video and noticed his glove position has changed when he's switched between fastballs and changeups; he said that when throwing the latter, he sometimes opens his glove up too much. Salazar has also experienced issues when facing a lineup the second time around. Cleveland is unlikely to force Salazar to try working things out in the minor leagues; they've recently affirmed their confidence directly to Salazar.

Fantasy Tip: Salazar is worth stashing in deep leagues; if he can fix his issues with his delivery and stamina, he could have a fine finish to the season. You have to consider how patient you can be in shallower formats, though. A surging Trevor Bauer may join the rotation if Salazar can't recover.

Indians | Trevor Bauer to start Wednesday

Tue, 08 Apr 2014 12:21:09 -0700

Nothing is official yet, but Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer is expected to be called up to start one of the games of a doubleheader against the San Diego Padres Wednesday, April 9.

Fantasy Tip: Bauer isn't worth addition in most standard leagues, because he's likely to be sent back to the minors after his start. However, he's not a bad streaming option for the day for the matchup against the Friars.

Indians | Trevor Bauer sent down

Mon, 24 Mar 2014 11:23:26 -0700

The Cleveland Indians optioned SP Trevor Bauer and RP C.C. Lee to Triple-A Columbus Monday, March 24, meaning SPs Carlos Carrasco and Josh Tomlin will battle for the final rotation spot. RPs Scott Atchison and Blake Wood are fighting for the final bullpen job. 3B Lonnie Chisenhall was told he will make the active roster, as well. The Indians also re-assigned 1Bs Bryan LaHair and David Cooper and C Luke Carlin.

Fantasy Tip: Bauer can be dumped in standard mixed leagues now, but keep him on your radar. There's a chance he'll be back up soon if a rotation spot opens up.

Indians | Competition tight for starting spots

Fri, 07 Mar 2014 09:25:30 -0800

Cleveland Indians SPs Trevor Bauer, Josh Tomlin, Carlos Carrasco and Aaron Harang have all pitched well so far this spring and are making the competition for the final two rotation spots, depending on what happens with SP Danny Salazar, an interesting decision. Bauer is showing more control and is throwing harder than he did last spring.

Indians | Trevor Bauer flirting with triple-digit heat

Tue, 04 Mar 2014 20:09:44 -0800

Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer averaged 92.8 mph in four starts in the majors last season, but in two innings Sunday, March 2, in Cactus League action, his fastball was around 93-96 mph, with one pitch clocked at 98 mph, according to a National League scout in attendance.

Fantasy Tip: Bauer is in the mix for a back-end rotation job. Those in AL-only drafts, deeper mixed formats and certainly long-term keeper leagues will want to roster him immediately. He could very well emerge as a must-start in all fantasy formats if he gets off to a good start, as he has a ton of upside and plenty of strikeout potential.

Indians | Carlos Carrasco in hunt for rotation spot

Sat, 22 Feb 2014 20:23:36 -0800

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco is competing with Ps Trevor Bauer, Aaron Harang and Josh Tomlin for the fifth spot in the rotation. SP Shaun Marcum (shoulder) also might join the battle when healthy. General manager Chris Antonetti said Carrasco is already on the club, whether it's in the bullpen or in the rotation, hoping that will relax the pitcher who is out of options. "He felt like he was pitching for his major league life," manager Terry Francona said of Carrasco before. "He knew there a chance he'd go to Triple-A." Carrasco has made some adjustments to his delivery to give him more deception.

Fantasy Tip: Carrasco has a live arm, and could be a boon to fantasy owners in the strikeouts department if he could win a job, pitch effectively and stay healthy. All of those things have been a problem in parts of five seasons in the majors to this point.

Indians | Trevor Bauer a new pitcher?

Fri, 14 Feb 2014 15:13:22 -0800

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona has noticed a drastic difference in SP Trevor Bauer's delivery this spring that has put him in a better position to throw strikes and stay healthy. "I think we're really excited. Again, he hasn't faced a hitter yet, but he looked like a different pitcher. That was nice to see," Francona said. Bauer will be competing with SPs Josh Tomlin and Carlos Carrasco for the last rotation spot in spring training.
