The Arizona Diamondbacks will not call up SP Archie Bradley yet despite their slow start. General manager Kevin Towers said the team is concerned about his struggles in his final two spring starts. They also don't want him to have the pressure of saving a rotation with a 4-12 record and a majors-worst 7.16 ERA. Bradley's agent has gone to bat for him. "I think it's very apparent what is going on in Arizona," Bradley's agent, Jay Franklin said.
"Archie Bradley has proven to the Diamondbacks organization that he has deserved that opportunity by keeping his mouth shut and letting his numbers speak for his chance to pitch in the major leagues."

The Arizona Diamondbacks re-assigned SP Archie Bradley to minor league camp Thursday, March 27.
Fantasy Tip: Kirk Gibson indicated that Bradley is close to major-league ready, and he'll likely be up in the bigs again before long. Until then, it looks like Randall Delgado will have a rotation spot to himself.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Archie Bradley allowed three runs and six hits while walking three and striking out three in 3 2/3 innings against Team Australia Thursday, March 20, with a spot in the starting rotation on the line. "I think he's understanding what he's got to do. He's a young kid. People put a lot of expectations on him, it's part of the process," manager Kirk Gibson said.
Fantasy Tip: Bradley has the most upside of the team's options to fill out the rotation, but Arizona may deem that he's not ready. Bradley has struggled with the location of his secondary pitches, and he could probably use another trip to the minors for more seasoning. He might be worth a late-round flier in a deep mixed league if he wins the final rotation spot.

The Arizona Diamondbacks may look at Chicago Cubs SP Jeff Samardzija now that SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) needs Tommy John surgery. The Diamondbacks are concerned Chicago would ask for SP Archie Bradley, who is off the trade block.

Updating previous reports, Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) has a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, and he may need season-ending surgery depending on what Dr. James Andrews finds in a second opinion. SP Wade Miley will now start the team's season opener in Australia against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Fantasy Tip: You should now avoid Corbin like the plague in all drafts. This will now open up a rotation spot for Archie Bradley, Randall Delgado or Josh Collmenter. Bradley clearly has the most upside of the trio if you are speculating with a late-round flier pick.

In the wake of the ulnar collateral ligament injury suffered by Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow), general manager Kevin Towers plans to use in-house options that could include SPs Randall Delgado, Archie Bradley, and Josh Collmenter, rather than seek a trade immediately.

Arizona Diamondbacks C Henry Blanco was very impressed with SP Archie Bradley's outing Monday, March 10, in which he struck out six in three scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies. Bradley was hitting 96 mph with his fastball and had a swing-and-miss curveball. "He's going to be good. I think he's good already and he'll get even better. I think if he keeps working on his release point and keeps working on pounding the strike zone, that's what he's going to need," Blanco said.
Fantasy Tip: It's encouraging that Bradley's offspeed pitches were spot on, since they have been a work in progress for him. He'll need to be more consistent with his control, but this Snakes top prospect will be pitching in the bigs this season, and it could be relatively early in the season.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Archie Bradley will join the club for their opening series in Australia and will start in a exhibition against Team Australia on March 21, the day before the series begins. Bradley is expected to make one more spring start; he has thrown 6 1/3 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts in Cactus League play, working around three hits and four walks.
Fantasy Tip: Bradley still could join the rotation if he pitches in that showcase contest because of the gap between the Aussie trip and the start of the stateside schedule. His presence in the quintet looks like a decent bet, meaning mixed-leaguers should consider him for a back-end or bench spot in their rotation.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Bronson Arroyo (back) will miss the next seven to 10 days after receiving an epidural injection for an inflamed disc in his back Wednesday, March 5. He was scratched from his spring start Tuesday, March 4, after feeling pain while warming up. "(The doctors) just want it to calm down before he starts throwing again," general manager Kevin Towers said. "Of course, Arroyo doesn't think it'll take that long. We'll just have to play it by ear to see how he's feeling." Arroyo has never been on the disabled list in his career.
Fantasy Tip: If Arroyo isn't ready for the start of the season, that'd leave the door open for the likes of Randall Delgado, Archie Bradley or Daniel Hudson. Bradley has the most upside of the trio, but the Snakes may decide he needs more seasoning. Delgado or Hudson would likely be just a short-term option for NL-only leaguers, depending on how much time Arroyo misses.

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said Monday, Feb. 10, that despite the signing of SP Bronson Arroyo, prospect SP Archie Bradley is not out of the running for a rotation spot. "Not necessarily," Towers said. "To me, we wanted to create a lot of depth. There could be injuries, a lot of things could happen before the middle of March, when we have to get our roster at least down to 28. I don't want Archie to feel just because of the Arroyo signing he's destined for Double-A or Triple-A."
Fantasy Tip: Bradley has a tremendously bright future, and fantasy owners in long-term keeper formats already know his name. However, he is on the outside looking in right now, and likely needs an injury or two to open up a job with the big club and have value in standard fantasy leagues.
