Astros | George Springer homers in return

Wed, 13 May 2015 22:50:21 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer (concussion) returned to the lineup Wednesday, May 14, against the San Francisco Giants. He went 1-for-3 with a tiebreaking solo homer and a walk.

Fantasy Tip: It appears safe to get Springer ($5,100; or 10.2% of cap) back into the lineup in FantasyScore. He is still hitting just .196, but he could be ready for a strong run based on his important homer.

Astros | George Springer batting fourth vs. Giants

Wed, 13 May 2015 14:15:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, Houston Astros OF George Springer is batting fourth and playing right field against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Springer ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is a high-risk, high-reward daily fantasy option, because of his lack of consistency at the dish. FantasyScore players would be wise to allow him a game or two to wet his feet again at the highest level, especially given his slow start, missed time and high cap hit.

Astros | George Springer returning Wednesday

Wed, 13 May 2015 08:59:37 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer (concussion) will return from the 7-day concussion disabled list Wednesday, May 13. He went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts in his only rehab game with Class AA Corpus Christi (Texas) Tuesday, May 12. He is hitting only .192 with four home runs and 12 RBI on the year. OF Robbie Grossman was optioned to Class AAA Fresno (Calif.) to make room for Springer on the roster.

Fantasy Tip: It's great news for Springer's ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) fantasy owners that he returned when eligible. However, you may want to hold him out of your lineups until he shows some consistency with the stick, mainly at FantasyScore.

Astros | George Springer cleared for rehab assignment

Tue, 12 May 2015 14:07:33 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer (concussion) has been cleared to start a rehab assignment with Class AA Corpus Christi (Texas) Tuesday, May 12.

Fantasy Tip: Springer ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) could return shortly if he doesn't show anymore concussion symptoms after a short rehab stint. However, you may want to continue avoiding him at FantasyScore. Before his injury, he was hitting only .192 (19-for-99) with four home runs and 12 RBI in 27 games.

Astros | George Springer out of lineup Wednesday

Wed, 06 May 2015 14:50:34 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer (head) continues to be evaluated for a concussion after crashing into the outfield wall Tuesday, May 5, and he is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 6, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Springer was able to walk off the field under his owner power yesterday, though.

Fantasy Tip: If Springer is diagnosed with concussion-like symptoms, he'll be required to go on the 7-day concussion disabled list. Robbie Grossman ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting ninth Wednesday and could see everyday playing time if Springer lands on the DL. However, he's a low-end outfield option at FantasyScore.

Astros | George Springer shows a sign of life

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 05:57:57 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer hit his first home run of the season against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Saturday, April 18. Springer is hitting just .150 so far this season, and he has struck out in 36.2% of his plate appearances.

Fantasy Tip: Springer ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) was a feast or famine hitter last season, and fantasy owners are hoping they're bellies aren't grumbling much longer. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come, and don't forget how quickly Springer's counting stats can add up. After a slow start last season, he went 20-for-73 with 20 runs, 10 home runs, 23 RBI and a .315/.432/.795 slash line through a 19-game stretch. See if there are any hasty fantasy owners out there and test the trade waters. Also, don't be afraid to take a calculated risk on Springer in FantasyScore contests.

Astros | George Springer to hit second?

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 15:47:16 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer is likely to hit second in the batting order this year behind 2B Jose Altuve. Springer isn't a prototypical second hitter, but manager A.J. Hinch thinks Springer will do just fine there. Springer hit 20 home runs in 78 games in 2014 before a leg injury, and he showed patience at the plate despite striking out 114 times in 295 at-bats. He embraced a new, gymnastics-style training regimen in the offseason, and he's also very disciplined with his eating habits. Springer hit .333 with a .636 slugging percentage in his first 33 Grapefruit League at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Springer has all the tools you'd like to see in a major league position player. Despite less than a full year in the big leagues, he won't come cheaply in drafts because of the hype surrounding him. Springer is eventually expected to become a perennial 20-20 candidate, and it could come as soon as 2015.

Astros | George Springer launches a pair

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 13:11:38 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer hit two home runs Friday, March 13, and both were to the opposite field.

Fantasy Tip: Springer burst onto the scene last season, and he showcased 40/20 potential, albeit while striking out 33% of the time. 2015 will be an interesting season for the 25-year-old outfielder, and fantasy owners will want to highly consider him in the early middle rounds on draft day. In a years time, he could easily be considered a first-round fantasy talent. However, there is risk, especially with the previously mentioned weak plate discipline which lead to a .34 BB/K mark. Be prepared for ups and downs throughout the season, too.
