Marlins | Jose Fernandez proves his health

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 14:10:53 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (elbow) struck out six batters over six innings while allowing three earned runs on seven hits during the Marlins 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants Thursday, July 2.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) recorded the win in his season debut and first start after a 14-month recovery process from Tommy John surgery. Fantasy owners can now start Fernandez with confidence in all formats going forward, and it isn't out of the question for him to return near-elite numbers the rest of the season. Although, it is likely wise to keep your expectations in check and count on a few peaks and valleys.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez will have more rest

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 08:46:49 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez will have six days of rest before his second start of the season, which is scheduled to come at home Thursday, July 9, against the Cincinnati Reds. Fernandez was 16-8 with a 2.25 ERA in 36 career starts before having Tommy John surgery last year, but he had no significant setbacks during his rehab. Fernandez will be on a "common sense" pitch count in his first start Thursday, July 2, against the San Francisco Giants, according to manager Dan Jennings. Fernandez threw 90 pitches in his final rehab start in the minors last Saturday.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez's ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) risks outweigh the potential reward in his first start in the bigs in more than a year. He could be a bit rusty and on a pitch count, and don't forget, the Giants have the highest OPS of any team on the road this season.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez activated

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 07:12:12 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (elbow) was activated from the disabled list Thursday, July 2, and will start against the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) is at too high of a price to trust on FantasyScore today. He's one of the best pitchers in baseball, but rust and a pitch limit could be factors.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez returning Thursday

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 14:18:54 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (elbow) is returning to start against the San Francisco Giants Thursday, July 2, for the first time since May 2014 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Fernandez was the team's opening day starter last year.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) should already be owned in all leagues. On FantasyScore, it'll be tempting to use him immediately, but remember, the Giants lead the league with a .776 OPS on the road, there is plenty of risk in taking Fernandez right out of the gates.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez won't return until July 2

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 17:39:45 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (elbow) won't return to the major leagues until Thursday, July 2, despite his success during his rehab starts. "It's what we mapped out. It's the protocol that we set in place a long time ago, so there's no reason to deviate from that now," Marlins manager Dan Jennings said. Fernandez will make his final rehab start Saturday, June 27, at Class AA Jacksonville.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez should be considered as an elite option on FantasyScore as soon as he is activated.

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (elbow) reported no pain after throwing 90 pitches in his rehab start Monday, June 22, at Class A Jupiter. Fernandez will start for Class AA Jacksonville Saturday, June 27, and is slated to return July 2 against the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez is super talented, but his price point on FantasyScore will be the determining factor on whether he's usable in that first start.

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 11:37:29 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (elbow) will make his next rehab start for Class AAA New Orleans Wednesday, June 17. He will be on a pitch count of 75-80 pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez is expected to rejoin the parent club during the first week of July. He should already be owned in all seasonal leagues and is likely to be a popular FantasyScore option once he returns.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez rehab update

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 19:34:02 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (elbow) tossed five scoreless innings in his second rehab start for Class A Jupiter Friday, June 12. He threw 65 pitches and allowed two hits and a walk, while striking out four batters.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez had far better results in this rehab outing than in his last appearance. He was able to throw his breaking ball and changeup effectively for strikes and his fastball registered 94-98 mph on the radar gun. In addition, he threw first-pitch strikes to 12 of the 16 batters he faced. Fernandez should already be owned in all fantasy leagues and should be a popular FantasyScore option when he returns to the majors in a few weeks.
