Athletics | Sonny Gray makes it through start

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 21:36:15 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (back) allowed four runs - one earned - and seven hits with two walks over 5 2/3 innings in a loss against the Baltimore Orioles Monday, Aug. 17. He was scratched from his previous start due to back spasms.

Fantasy Tip: Gray ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) is a bit on the expensive side, and he was just so-so Monday. Give him another start to get untracked before trusting him again at these prices in FantasyScore.

Athletics | Sonny Gray good to go Monday

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 10:47:00 -0700

Correcting a previous report, Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (back) will start against the Baltimore Orioles, Monday Aug. 17. Manager Bob Melvin said Sunday, Aug. 16, that Gray would not be limited by a pitch count.

Fantasy Tip: Gray ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) is 1-2 with a 7.04 ERA in three starts against the Orioles prior to the 2015 season. Gray is a strong start in daily, but he is coming off back spasms with a steep price tag and a rough history against Adam Jones and the Orioles. Today may be the day to look for another ace on FantasyScore.

Athletics | Sonny Gray won't be limited in return

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 16:31:34 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (back) will start against the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday, Aug. 17, and won't be limited by a pitch count, manager Bob Melvin said Sunday, Aug. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Gray ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) has been stout all year, but given his price tag at FantasyScore, it isn't a terrible idea to avoid him in his first start back just to make sure he is back at full strength.

Athletics | Sonny Gray on track to start Monday

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 19:33:36 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (back) threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session Saturday, Aug. 15, and "felt good," manager Bob Melvin said. If Gray doesn't feel any stiffness Sunday, Aug. 16, he will likely start Monday, Aug. 17, against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fantasy Tip: Gray ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) is capable of delivering a solid performance against any opponent, but the Dodgers pose a tough test for a player coming back from an injury issue, so a wait-and-see approach at FantasyScore isn't a bad idea.

Athletics | Sonny Gray ruled out for the weekend

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 14:13:55 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (back) will throw another bullpen session Saturday, Aug. 15, but the earliest he would start is Monday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Take a wait-and-see approach with Gray ($9,600, 19.2% of cap). He will likely battle the Los Angeles Dodgers next week and could even matchup against Clayton Kershaw ($9,900, 19.8% of cap) or Zack Greinke ($9,800, 19.6% of cap), which isn't great for Gray's value at FantasyScore. Continue to check back for updates.

Athletics | Sonny Gray still could start this weekend

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 13:17:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (back) threw for 15 minutes Friday, Aug. 14, and still could pitch this weekend against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Gray ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) will see how he feels Saturday, Aug. 15, and a decision will likely be made then. Check back for updates, but there is an added degree of risk with Gray given the heath concern. This is especially true at FantasyScore because of his hefty cap hit. He is worth starting in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Athletics | Sonny Gray won't start Friday

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 15:32:50 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (back) won't start Friday, Aug. 14, after being scratched from his start with back spasms Thursday, Aug. 13, according to manager Bob Melvin. SP Brad Mills is the leading candidate to come up from Class AAA Nashville to face the Baltimore Orioles Friday. Mills is 3-0 with a 1.56 ERA in three career starts against the O's.

Fantasy Tip: Gray ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) could be a candidate to land on the DL if he doesn't recover quickly. Stay tuned on his progress. Mills will be a cheap starting option on FantasyScore, but despite his good numbers against Baltimore, it's best to avoid him for what could be a spot start.

Athletics | Sonny Gray scratched Thursday

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 06:49:31 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (back) was scratched from his start Thursday, Aug. 13, and SP Jesse Chavez will take on the Toronto Blue Jays in his place. Gray is dealing with back spasms.

Fantasy Tip: Chavez ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) faces a robust offense and isn't worth starting on FantasyScore today.

Indians | Corey Kluber still a league leader

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 20:35:17 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber leads American League pitchers with 84 no-hit innings this season, four ahead of Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray and five ahead of Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel.

Fantasy Tip: Kluber ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) doesn't have the wins that he did from a year ago when he won the American League Cy Young Award, but more often than not, especially early in the season, he wasn't getting much in the way of run support. He remains a viable FantasyScore option due to his high K/9 (strikeouts per nine innings) ratio and low ERA.

Athletics | Sonny Gray spins another gem

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 05:42:56 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray allowed a single run during his complete-game win over the Houston Astros Friday, Aug. 7. Gray struck out five batters while allowing just five hits and no walks during Oaklands' 3-1 win.

Fantasy Tip: Gray ($9,500, 19.0% of cap) has emerged as a fantasy ace this season, and he is worth considering at FantasyScore whenever he takes the hill. He leads the American League in ERA (2.06), WHIP (0.96) and hits per nine innings (6.4), among qualified starters.
