Cardinals | Kolten Wong shortens up swing

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 11:01:31 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong recorded his second multi-hit game of the month in the team's win Tuesday, Aug. 25, after entering the game with just two hits in his previous 29 at-bats. Wong was unexpectedly benched last Friday and received days off Sunday, Aug. 23, and Monday, Aug. 24. Wong used the time off to clear his head and to focus on making tweaks to his swing, which he had noticed was getting too long. A shorter swing helped snap his slump Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Wong's ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) recent slump means he's probably being avoided by the majority of users on FantasyScore. You might want to do the same, but after rejoining the hit column last night, he could be on the verge of producing nice numbers once again. Don't blindly avoid him for your daily formats moving forward.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong out again vs. Arizona

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 15:04:13 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is not in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 24. 2B Greg Garcia is starting at the keystone and batting eighth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Jhoulys Chacin Monday.

Fantasy Tip: The Cards broke out for 10 runs Sunday, Aug. 23, so it isn't surprising to see manager Mike Matheny stick with the same lineup Monday. Make sure to avoid Wong ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) in all fantasy formats, and it is worth adding, he is really struggling with a .145/.224/.145 slash line and just one multi-hit game in August. Garcia ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) brings solid contact skills to the plate and could open up plenty of cap space at FantasyScore Monday. He is worth a look, if you're trying to stack your lineup at other positions.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong with day off

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 14:45:19 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is out of the lineup Saturday, Aug. 22, with 3B Matt Carpenter shifting to second base. 1B Mark Reynolds is playing third and hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) isn't a good play against Ian Kennedy in Petco Park on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong back up the order

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 14:06:16 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is hitting second against Milwaukee Brewers SP Tyler Cravy Friday, Aug. 7. The move sends OF Stephen Piscotty to the eighth spot in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: A move back to the top of the order for Wong ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) definitely makes him more attractive to daily players. All St. Louis bats tonight might be worth a look on FantasyScore against Cravy, who is making only his third start this year.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina resting

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 07:48:07 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina is out of the lineup Thursday, Aug. 6, with 2B Kolten Wong moving up to hit fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Wong ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is in a 1-for-16 (.063) slump this month, but he has a decent matchup against Michael Lorenzen. He's a risky midrange buy on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong hitting seventh Tuesday

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 14:23:32 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is hitting seventh in the batting order against Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani Tuesday, Aug. 4. That allows OF Jason Heyward to move up to the third spot in the order.

Fantasy Tip: The lineup change will make Heyward ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) slightly more intriguing on FantasyScore tonight against DeSclafani. The opposite can be said about Wong ($5,100, 10.2% of cap), but the consequences may be minimal in the end.

Cardinals | St. Louis reworks top of the lineup

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 13:36:09 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is leading off with OF Randal Grichuk batting second and 2B Kolten Wong hitting third against Colorado Rockies SP Chris Rusin Thursday, July 30.

Fantasy Tip: There isn't a lot of value shifting with the swap between Carpenter ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) and Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap), but Grichuk ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) had been hitting lower in the lineup of late. Grichuk stands to receieve a huge fantasy boost if he can lock into a spot closer to the top of the St. Louis lineup. All three are worth consideration for FantasyScore usage, but Rusin ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a lefty with a respectable 3.38 ERA over his past seven games, including five outings at Coors Field.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong stumbles into All-Star break

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 16:24:09 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong has a .219/.302/.368 slash line over his past 31 games with just 11 runs, three home runs, 11 RBI and six stolen bases.

Fantasy Tip: Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has a hefty FantasyScore salary, and the juice hasn't been worth the squeeze most nights recently. Still, he boasts solid upside, and in favorable matchups is typically worth a look. At this point, though, it isn't out of the question to bench him in seasonal formats and avoid in daily contests until he heats back up.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong leaves game

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 03:45:58 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (hamstring) was hit by the pitch in the 11th inning Saturday, July 11, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was removed from the game.

Fantasy Tip: Cardinals manager Mike Matheny admitted Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) was lifted mainly for precautionary reasons. Since it looks like Wong won't play in the All-Star Game (he was not selected as an alternate), Wong may be rested. Keep an eye on whether he plays Sunday.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong hitting second

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 13:19:56 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (concussion) is batting second against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole Friday, July 10. Wong played the final four innings of the game Thursday, July 9, which was his first appearance since suffering a mild concussion Tuesday, July 7.

Fantasy Tip: Over his past 20 games, Wong ($5,300 10.6% of cap) has a .250/.329/.403 slash line with seven runs, two home runs, 10 RBI and three stolen bases. While the stats are nothing to shake a stick at, he isn't in his finest form and faces a daunting pitching matchup Friday. Friday likely isn't the best night to spend up for Wong at FantasyScore.
