Cardinals | Matt Adams, Kolten Wong out

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 14:04:44 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams and 2B Kolten Wong are not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals left-handed SP Danny Duffy Monday, June 27. 2B Jedd Gyorko is starting at first base and is hitting eighth, while 1B Brandon Moss starts in left field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko has hit .229 in limited playing time this year. He has power potential with seven home runs on the year and his most recent long ball coming yesterday, but he's an all-or-nothing daily play with limited upside. Moss has 16 bombs on the year but is batting just .208 with zero home runs against southpaws on the season. He's one to avoid.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday will be DH again

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 12:26:14 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday will serve as the designated hitter against Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton Sunday, June 26. 2B Kolten Wong will start in left field and is batting eighth, while OF Tommy Pham will start in center field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Wong has been productive at the plate recently and has a .294 batting average over the last seven days. He should be a decent player in some daily fantasy leagues. Pham is hitting only .167 so far this season and is not a great option.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong out of the lineup

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 17:01:15 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is not in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP Wade LeBlanc Friday, June 24. OF Tommy Pham will start in center field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Pham has gone 1-for-5 since being recalled from the minor leagues and is not a strong option at this point.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong in center field vs. Cubs

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 15:17:34 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is starting in center field and batting eighth against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Monday, June 20.

Fantasy Tip: Wong sits with a disappointing .220 batting average, one home run and six RBI through 150 plate appearances. And while he has shown some promise, in the majority of seasonal leagues, Wong will need to put together a solid stretch at the dish before becoming fantasy relevant. Leave him to cavernous mixed and AL-only formats for now.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong, Matt Adams in lineup

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 11:15:30 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B/OF Kolten Wong will bat second and play center field against Texas Rangers SP Nick Martinez Saturday, June 18. In addition, 1B Matt Adams will start at first base and bat fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Wong is playing for the first time since being recalled from Class AAA Memphis following a disappointing start at the plate this year. He gained experience playing center field during his brief stint in the minors and will be making his first appearance there at the MLB level this afternoon. Wong should be stashed in NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues if he is still available. Adams is batting .309 with nine home runs and 33 RBI and is a viable option in all fantasy formats.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong re-joins club

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 09:29:25 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B/OF Kolten Wong was recalled from Class AAA Memphis Friday, June 17, and OF Jeremy Hazelbaker was sent down to Memphis.

Fantasy Tip: Wong had a .429-4-11 line in seven games at Memphis and has begun playing center field to add to his versatility. He has a refined hitting stroke and natural power. He just hasn't found consistency at the major league level. If Wong was dropped in a league, scoop him up on upside alone. Hazelbaker was a nice story the first month, but his honeymoon period has been over for a while now. He can be dropped in most formats.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong destroying AAA pitching

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 08:24:06 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong has hit four homers and driven in 11 runs in six games since being demoted to Class AAA Memphis.

Fantasy Tip: Wong has the talent to rake, but he has yet to put it together in the majors. Some have suggested he's in his head too much, and his power stroke surfacing on the farm could suggest that to be true. He should be stashed in all formats because of the potential he has offensively at second base.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong playing CF in minors

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 14:57:15 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is starting in center field for Class AAA Memphis for their game Monday, June 13.

Fantasy Tip: Although Wong has never played in the outfield in the majors, this defensive switch is probably necessary, as the Cardinals boast a crowded infield right now ever since Jhonny Peralta was activated from the disabled list. While this is good news for Wong's fantasy stock, the 25-year-old still has to pick up his production significantly when he makes it back to the Cardinals.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong optioned to minors

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 13:23:46 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong was optioned to Class AAA Memphis Monday, June 6.

Fantasy Tip: Wong has posted a .222/.306/.286 slash line this season with just a single home run and five RBI. In the majority of yearly setups, it is safe to drop Wong. He has a lot of work to do in order to resurface, and he doesn't have a full-time job to return to if he finds his form.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong not starting Sunday

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 13:25:30 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is not starting Sunday, June 5, against the San Francisco Giants. 2B Greg Garcia is in the lineup and will bat seventh against Giants SP Jake Peavy.

Fantasy Tip: Wong has tumbled mightily in recent weeks. From a player who fetched a five-year contract to someone who may be an afterthought starting on his own team, Wong has fallen out of favor with a lot of people in St. Louis. Can he recover momentum? Stay tuned, and for now keep him out of your lineups.
