Twins | Alex Meyer could still be starter

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 12:00:01 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Alex Meyer's future remains as a starting pitcher, according to general manager Terry Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: Meyer's role with the Twins for now will be in the bullpen, though, which means he'll carry minimal fantasy value for the foreseeable future. It's unlikely that Meyer will contribute at all for owners in traditional leagues until at least 2016.

Twins | Another Twins prospect coming up

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 11:39:05 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Alex Meyer is being called up from Class AAA Rochester Thursday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Meyer had a 5.11 ERA for Rochester in 17 appearances (eight starts), but he had excelled after being moved to a relief role. Once a prized starting pitching prospect for Minnesota, it looks as though he'll pitch out of the bullpen for the time being. Unless Meyer eventually returns to a starting role, he won't have much fantasy value.

Twins | Alex Meyer throwing new changeup

Thu, 24 Apr 2014 14:55:46 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Alex Meyer has switched to a new changeup, a three-fingered changeup instead of a circle changeup. "It was really encouraging," assistant general manager Rob Antony said. "He threw 15 changeups. He changed his grip. I think he's going to break that out and use it more in the games. So that's a positive thing. Obviously, he pitched well with 11 strikeouts and three walks. He was pretty dominant." Meyer had a career-high 11 strikeouts in 6 2/3 scoreless innings with Triple-A Rochester Wednesday, April 23.

Twins | Alex Meyer long shot for rotation

Mon, 24 Feb 2014 13:21:02 -0800

Minnesota Twins SP Alex Meyer is considered a long shot for the rotation this spring, and he's expected to start the year at Triple-A Rochester. Meyer had a 3.12 ERA with 28 strikeouts and seven walks in 26 innings in the Arizona Fall League.

Fantasy Tip: Meyer could make his major league debut this season, but guessing when that will be is tough to predict. For fantasy purposes, 2015 is much more realistic.
