Giants | Joe Panik on the bench

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 11:58:08 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik is not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Nola Sunday, June 26. 2B Ramiro Pena will start at second base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Pena is hitting .381 with four RBI since being recalled from the minor leagues earlier in the month. He should be considered a starting option by desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues.

Giants | Career game for Joe Panik

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik went 1-for-4 with a home run and a career-high four RBI in a 6-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday, June 18.

Fantasy Tip: Panik does a little bit in all the offensive categories, and he should make a quality starting option in NL-only formats and deeper mixed leagues.

Giants | Joe Panik sitting Wednesday

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 15:29:22 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (rest) is not in the lineup Wednesday, June 8. 2B Kelby Tomlinson is starting in his place and batting second opposite Boston Red Sox SP David Price.

Fantasy Tip: Panik is actually faring better against southpaws this season compared to right-handers, but he'll take a seat anyway with Price on the hill. Tomlinson has actually flourished versus lefties, registering a .372 average in 43 at-bats in that department. Even so, it's hard to recommend him for daily fantasy, as he swings a limited bat overall and must deal with the former AL Cy Young award winner.

Giants | Joe Panik receives day off

Sun, 29 May 2016 12:05:43 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Chris Rusin Sunday, May 29. 2B Kelby Tomlinson will start at second base and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlinson is hitting .439 so far this month but has only two RBI in his last eight games. He can be a decent sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues because of his recent play.

Giants | Joe Panik has four hits

Fri, 20 May 2016 05:48:41 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik had four hits Thursday, May 19, in a 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres. His batting average improved to .253.

Fantasy Tip: Combined with on-base numbers of .325 and a .452 slugging percentage, it appears Panik's bat may be coming around. He should be picked up in daily leagues and given second looks in NL and mixed contests.

Giants | Joe Panik struggling at the plate

Thu, 19 May 2016 15:58:40 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik has not registered a hit in his past 15 at-bats entering the game against the San Diego Padres Thursday, May 19. His batting average is down to .234.

Fantasy Tip: Panik entered 2016 with a .309 career batting average, so fantasy owners should expect a bounce-back run sooner than later. He has strong pedigree and should provide a solid three-category return going forward in the runs, RBI and average columns. Just don't expect Panik to tip the scales in the power and speed departments. Still, in shallow leagues, it isn't out of the question to grab a hot bat at the keystone because it is a deep position.

Giants | Joe Panik drives in three

Sat, 14 May 2016 07:14:57 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI against the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Panik has recorded two home runs and five RBI over the last two games and is hitting a decent .256 this season. Panik should be an attractive starting option in most fantasy leagues.

Giants | Hunter Pence, Joe Panik return

Fri, 06 May 2016 15:15:13 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (back) and 2B Joe Panik (groin) return to the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis Friday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Good news for Giants fans. Get both Pence and Panik back into your starting lineups in traditional formats. However, in daily games, you may want to ease up and avoid paying up for them while coming off minor injuries.

Giants | Joe Panik due back on Friday

Thu, 05 May 2016 17:34:17 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (groin) is expected to return to the lineup Friday, May 6, against the Colorado Rockies, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: Kelby Tomlinson has done a fine job of filling in for Panik lately with three straight two-hit games, although all six hits have been singles. The Giants will be happy to get their regular second baseman back, as he provides a little bit more pop at the top of the order (three homers, 12 RBIs in 93 at-bats this season). He should be immediately inserted back in lineups Friday, assuming he doesn't suffer a setback.

Giants | Joe Panik remains out

Thu, 05 May 2016 16:05:50 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (groin) is not in the lineup again Thursday, May 5. 2B Kelby Tomlinson will patrol second base in his place and bat seventh opposite Colorado Rockies SP Chris Rusin.

Fantasy Tip: Panik hasn't played since April 29, and while there was a chance he would return in this game, it looks like the Giants are going to err on the side of caution. He should be back this weekend, though. In the meantime, Tomlinson will continue to hold down the fort at second base, but isn't a recommended option for daily games because of his limited ceiling.
