Giants | Joe Panik has hip issue

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 10:33:11 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (hip) banged his hip diving for a ground ball Wednesday, April 13, but he's expected to play again Friday, April 15. Panik is available off the bench Thursday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Panik will be fine. He has one home run in nine games but is hitting a mere .235 (8-for-34). Panik makes consistent contact and doesn't strike out much, but he doesn't run much and lacks power. He's more of middle infield insurance for fantasy owners in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

Giants | Joe Panik out against lefty

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 09:37:53 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik is out of the lineup Thursday, April 14, with Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa on the mound. 2B Kelby Tomlinson is hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlinson doesn't have the offensive prowess at this stage to be worth a daily flyer.

Giants | Joe Panik resting Saturday

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 11:03:36 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik is not in the starting lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday, April 9. INF Kelby Tomlinson is playing second base and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: The left-handed-hitting Panik appears to be receiving a day off because the Giants are facing left-handed SP Clayton Kershaw. He should return to the lineup Sunday, April 10.

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik went 3-for-5 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored in a victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, April 7.

Fantasy Tip: Panik is off to a solid start this year, batting .353 through his first 17 at-bats. He should be viewed as a viable middle infield option in mixed fantasy leagues.

Giants | Joe Panik had stress fracture

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 17:15:37 -0800

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) dealt with a stress fracture of the L5 vertebra in his back last year, but the fracture has completely healed. He played in just three games after going on the disabled list Aug. 1. Panik said structurally his back is sound, and he's not limited at all.

Fantasy Tip: Panik was in the midst of a breakout season before his injury. He has great plate discipline and a contact profile, with some decent power at the keystone. It may be tough to approach a .300 average again, but it's doable. Panik is a consistent middle infielder to own in deep mixed leagues for average stability.

Giants | Joe Panik 100% healthy

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 13:34:02 -0800

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) said he is 100% healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Panik's breakout in 2015 was cut short by his back injury, but his improvements in contact and plate discipline are real, although don't expect a return to a .300 average. Panik doesn't run much but has notable power that will play as a middle infield option in deep mixed leagues.

Giants | Danny Salazar not an option for SF

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 14:22:46 -0800

The San Francisco Giants inquired about Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar, but it isn't happening after the Indians asked for 2B Joe Panik plus four minor league prospects.

Fantasy Tip: Salazar is the Tribe's No. 2 starter but has the strikeout ability to be a low-end fantasy ace in 2016 and beyond. It's hard to see the Indians getting rid of him unless they receive a huge package in return.

Giants | Joe Panik returns to normal routine

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 16:52:45 -0800

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) is reportedly recovered from his ailment and back in his regular training mode.

Fantasy Tip: Considering how back issues can sometimes be very extensive, this is excellent news for Panik, who was having a very nice second season in the big leagues before the injury cut his season short in the latter part of the summer. In 100 games, Panik ended up slashing .312/.378/.456 with eight home runs, 37 RBI, and 59 runs scored. He has the potential to be an upper echelon option at second base in fantasy next season.

Giants | Joe Panik placed on 60-day DL

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 16:49:15 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) was placed on the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Fantasy Tip: This should end Panik's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) season, and fantasy owners will want to look out for updates this offseason concerning his status entering the 2016 season. Kelby Tomlinson ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) projects to take care of the keystone through the end of this season. He isn't a high-end option by any means, but he does offer a nice .300 batting average through 110 at-bats this season.

Giants | More tests for Joe Panik

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 20:11:55 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) will have more tests so the team can formulate the best rehab plan.

Fantasy Tip: Panik ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) still might be shut down for the entire season, so FantasyScore players need not bother with him unless he can officially return and play in at least two straight games without any setbacks.
