Angels | No decision for Hector Santiago

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 23:06:14 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed one earned run, three hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision Tuesday, June 21, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: After a bit of a rough patch from May 20 to June 10, Santiago is back in business with a pair of quality starts over his past two outings. He has re-emerged as a must-start in AL-only fantasy leagues and deeper mixed formats.

Angels | Hector Santiago evens record

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 23:26:41 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed one earned run, two hits and two walks with five strikeouts over six innings in a win Wednesday, June 15, against the Minnesota Twins.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago has had some uneven results lately, and he had failed to post a quality start in five straight outings dating back to May 15. A visit from the lowly Twins is always the perfect elixir to cure most pitcher's ills. His WHIP of 1.34 is still pretty solid, and about in line with his career numbers. He remains a decent AL-only fantasy play despite his recent woes.

Angels | Hector Santiago trending downward

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:25:33 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago hasn't gone more than four innings in four of his last five starts. He went just 1 1/3 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) against the Cleveland Indians his last time out. Santiago is 2-2 with a 4.76 ERA in nine career appearances against the Minnesota Twins, who he faces Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago can't really be trusted right now in most mixed leagues, as his season ERA now stands at 5.64, and his 1.40 WHIP is not palatable, either. He's a matchup play, at best, if you're still running with him in deep mixed formats. The matchup against the light-hitting Twins could a good one, though, and he's worth a look as a contrarian pick in DFS.

Angels | Hector Santiago torched in loss

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 23:59:51 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits in just 1 1/3 innings of work against the Cleveland Indians on Friday, June 10.

Fantasy Tip: Oh, boy. In five starts since shutting out the M's on May 15, Santiago has given up 23 earned runs on 24 hits and 12 walks in just 17 innings -- that works out to a 12.18 ERA and a 2.12 WHIP. An All-Star last year, Santiago looks lost on the hill. Stash him away in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues, but keep him out of your active lineup.

Angels | Hector Santiago tagged with loss

Wed, 25 May 2016 19:15:54 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago (3-3) allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits over 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Texas Rangers Wednesday, May 25, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago has allowed four or more runs in three of his last four outings and should be viewed as a risky play in DFS. He will look to turn things around in his next start versus the Detroit Tigers Tuesday, May 31.

Angels | Hector Santiago ejected

Sat, 21 May 2016 05:46:42 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago was ejected in the third inning against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, May 20, because he was arguing ball and strikes. He allowed four runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings while striking out two and walking three.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago has not allowed more than four earned runs in any of his starts this season but has allowed 10 home runs in nine starts, which is tied for sixth most among pitchers. He will be a risky option moving forward since he is scheduled to face the Texas Rangers in his next start.

Angels | Hector Santiago pitches a gem

Sun, 15 May 2016 18:27:31 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed two hits while walking one and striking out five over eight scoreless innings in a win over the Seattle Mariners Sunday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago ended a bit of a down stretch with his best start of the season. Consistency is likely to remain an issue, but he is still a decent option in deeper mixed leagues and a potential matchup play in daily formats.

Angels | Hector Santiago not good in Milwaukee

Wed, 04 May 2016 14:42:49 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago failed to escape the sixth inning for a second consecutive start Wednesday, May 4, against the Milwaukee Brewers. He lasted 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and four walks, while striking out four, en route to picking up the no-decision.

Fantasy Tip: One of Santiago's strengths in fantasy is his ability to get strikeouts. However, after logging seven or more K's in three of his first four starts, he's now compiled only five punch-outs in his last two assignments combined. Santiago was an All-Star last year, and still has a respectable 3.58 ERA, so he should get back on track at some point.

Angels | Hector Santiago suffers first loss

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 21:46:44 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed four runs and a season-high eight hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss against the Texas Rangers Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago entered the game tied for sixth in the American League with a .179 opponent batting average, so chalk this one up as just a poor outing. He remains a must-start fantasy option in all formats and a tremendous DFS play.

Angels | Hector Santiago spins another tidy outing

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 05:59:07 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed two runs on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts during the Angel's 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago has 27 punchouts through 26 2/3 innings with a 2.70 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP to start the season. He is a solid end-of-the-rotation option for your fantasy club in all formats, especially because of his uptick in velocity, according to FanGraphs.com.
