Angels | Hector Santiago does enough for win

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 22:30:35 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed three earned runs, five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over five innings in a win Wednesday, July 20, against the Texas Rangers. He threw 63 of his 100 pitches for strikes in the quality start.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the win, Santiago has been way more impressive on the road than at home. He is 4-2 with a 5.82 ERA with 12 home runs allowed in 51 innings at the Big A, while going 4-2 with a 3.03 ERA in 10 road outings, posting a .217 opponent batting average with just six homers allowed in 59 1/3 innings. Fantasy owners and DFS players need to remember those splits.

Angels | Hector Santiago blanks White Sox

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 22:07:38 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed no runs on five hits against the Chicago White Sox on Friday, July 15. He walked none and struck out seven in winning his fourth consecutive decision.

Fantasy Tip: Five of Santiago's last six starts have been excellent, and over the past three (all wins) he has gone 20 innings without allowing an earned run. Even his command, still a thorn in his side even during this nice run, was on point Friday night. He's worth plugging into your rotation in both AL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Angels | Hector Santiago sharp in win over TB

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 13:41:31 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago improved his record to 6-4 after winning his start Thursday, July 7, against the Tampa Bay Rays. It was one of his best efforts of the season, as he registered seven shutout innings, yielding three hits, four walks, and striking out nine.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago has been very impressive lately, having allowed one run or fewer in three of his last four starts, bringing his ERA down more than a full run from 5.64 to 4.58 in the process. Even though he's a likely trade candidate due to his club's struggles this year, owners should at least give Santiago a look in deep mixed leagues based on his current run.

Astros | Houston scouting Hector Santiago

Sat, 02 Jul 2016 22:06:42 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago was watched by scouts from the Houston Astros during his start Saturday, July 2, against the Boston Red Sox. Santiago was among several targets the scouts were watching from both teams.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago is a potent pitcher and is highly coveted since he is a left-hander. If he moves to a contender he would likely see a slight bump in fantasy appeal with a better chance at victories.

Angels | No decision for Hector Santiago

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 23:06:14 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed one earned run, three hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision Tuesday, June 21, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: After a bit of a rough patch from May 20 to June 10, Santiago is back in business with a pair of quality starts over his past two outings. He has re-emerged as a must-start in AL-only fantasy leagues and deeper mixed formats.

Angels | Hector Santiago evens record

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 23:26:41 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed one earned run, two hits and two walks with five strikeouts over six innings in a win Wednesday, June 15, against the Minnesota Twins.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago has had some uneven results lately, and he had failed to post a quality start in five straight outings dating back to May 15. A visit from the lowly Twins is always the perfect elixir to cure most pitcher's ills. His WHIP of 1.34 is still pretty solid, and about in line with his career numbers. He remains a decent AL-only fantasy play despite his recent woes.

Angels | Hector Santiago trending downward

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:25:33 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago hasn't gone more than four innings in four of his last five starts. He went just 1 1/3 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) against the Cleveland Indians his last time out. Santiago is 2-2 with a 4.76 ERA in nine career appearances against the Minnesota Twins, who he faces Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago can't really be trusted right now in most mixed leagues, as his season ERA now stands at 5.64, and his 1.40 WHIP is not palatable, either. He's a matchup play, at best, if you're still running with him in deep mixed formats. The matchup against the light-hitting Twins could a good one, though, and he's worth a look as a contrarian pick in DFS.

Angels | Hector Santiago torched in loss

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 23:59:51 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago allowed six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits in just 1 1/3 innings of work against the Cleveland Indians on Friday, June 10.

Fantasy Tip: Oh, boy. In five starts since shutting out the M's on May 15, Santiago has given up 23 earned runs on 24 hits and 12 walks in just 17 innings -- that works out to a 12.18 ERA and a 2.12 WHIP. An All-Star last year, Santiago looks lost on the hill. Stash him away in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues, but keep him out of your active lineup.

Angels | Hector Santiago tagged with loss

Wed, 25 May 2016 19:15:54 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago (3-3) allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits over 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Texas Rangers Wednesday, May 25, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago has allowed four or more runs in three of his last four outings and should be viewed as a risky play in DFS. He will look to turn things around in his next start versus the Detroit Tigers Tuesday, May 31.

Angels | Hector Santiago ejected

Sat, 21 May 2016 05:46:42 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago was ejected in the third inning against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, May 20, because he was arguing ball and strikes. He allowed four runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings while striking out two and walking three.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago has not allowed more than four earned runs in any of his starts this season but has allowed 10 home runs in nine starts, which is tied for sixth most among pitchers. He will be a risky option moving forward since he is scheduled to face the Texas Rangers in his next start.
