Rangers | Nomar Mazara not in the lineup

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 15:15:21 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Nomar Mazara is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP David Price Friday, June 24. OF Ryan Rua will start in left field and is batting fourth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Rua has gone hitless in his last six at-bats but does have a .295 batting average in June. He will have a tough matchup Friday but should be an attractive option in daily fantasy leagues because he hits .396 against left-handed pitchers.

Rangers | Nomar Mazara ends 13-game homer drought

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 14:40:06 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Nomar Mazara drove home run of the first-inning sacrifice fly and clubbed his 11th home run of the year - a solo shot - against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, June 19.

Fantasy Tip: Mazara had been kept inside the yard since June 4 and had tallied only one extra-base hit since until sending a Mike Leake offering into the right field stands. Even with the homer, the 21-year-old phenom is 3-for-31 over his last seven games. Still, it will be hard to sit Mazara considering the Rangers have a makeup game against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday and will stay at home for two more against the Cincinnati Reds.

Rangers | Nomar Mazara sitting Monday

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 17:12:22 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Nomar Mazara (rest) is not in the lineup Monday, June 13, against Oakland Athletics SP Sean Manaea. OF Shin-Soo Choo is back from the disabled list and starting in right field, batting leadoff, while OF Ryan Rua is in left field and hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: It's just a rest day for the Rangers' rookie sensation, and he'll obviously resume his starting duties in the outfield even with Choo back in the fold. Rua is the one who will be the odd man out as a result of Choo's return, but he can still offer some value to daily league players whenever he's inserted into the middle of the lineup.

Rangers | Nomar Mazara at 10 and counting

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 22:34:20 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Nomar Mazara went 1-for-4 with a strikeout Saturday, June 11, against the Seattle Mariners, but it was good enough to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

Fantasy Tip: Mazara is hitting .410 (16-for-39) during the impressive hitting streak, and he has five runs scored with a homer and four RBIs during the span. While Saturday's performance was basically a wash despite the hit, he has emerged as a must-start in all AL-only fantasy leagues and deeper mixed play.

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 05:33:59 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Mazara has been a pleasant surprise this season, with a batting average currently at .319 and a slugging percentage at .500. Could he be an American League Rookie of the Year candidate? He certainly shows no signs of slumping, so play Mazara in all formats.

Texas Rangers OF Nomar Mazara went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI during the Rangers' 10-4 win over the Seattle Mariners Saturday, June 4.

Fantasy Tip: Mazara is proving to be a high-end fantasy asset with 25 runs, 10 home runs, 27 RBI and a .306/.356/.494 slash line, and he should be started with confidence in all fantasy formats going forward.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo back and leading off

Fri, 20 May 2016 14:22:57 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (calf) was activated from the 15-day disabled list and is back in the starting lineup hitting leadoff against Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers Friday, May 20. As a result, 2B Rougned Odor moves down to fifth in the batting order, and OF Nomar Mazara is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: So Choo's return pushes both Odor and Mazara down in the order, which hurts their fantasy value a tad. The good thing for Mazara owners is that he won't lose any playing time at all with Choo's activation, and the rookie remains a midrange outfielder in all formats. Choo should be returned to starting lineups everywhere. He can deliver somewhere around 20 home runs and decent counting stats across the board.

Rangers | Nomar Mazara headed to LF

Wed, 18 May 2016 11:57:17 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Nomar Mazara will play left field when OF Shin-Soo Choo (calf) returns to right field.

Fantasy Tip: The outfield seems set with Ian Desmond in center. Choo will have to hit better than the .188 he opened the season with, but he'll be a midrange option in the outfield. Ryan Rua will lose most of his fantasy appeal but will probably sub in against lefties. He could be a low-end DFS option in those matchups. Mazara is an upper-middle option the rest of the way. Desmond's shortstop eligibility is paramount with six homers and 25 RBI. He remains an upper-level option there.
