Cardinals | Jhonny Peralta sitting out

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 12:10:00 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Jhonny Peralta is not in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton Sunday, June 26. 2B Jedd Gyorko will start at third base and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko has received occasional start this month and is hitting only .167 during that span. He has not recorded an RBI in his last 10 games and probably should be avoided in most leagues.

Cardinals | Jedd Gyorko starting at first base

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 14:40:00 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Jedd Gyorko is starting at first base and is hitting seventh against Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels Friday, June 17. 1B Matt Adams takes a seat against the left-hander.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to put Adams on your bench in all leagues tonight against the lefty. Gyorko has notable power but swings and misses too often to rely on in most mixed leagues. Plus, his playing time has been sporadic. But Gyorko has hit much better against southpaws in his career and is worth a cheap flyer in daily games tonight.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter, Matt Adams out

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 12:51:06 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Matt Carpenter and 1B Matt Adams are not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jon Niese Sunday, June 12. 2B Jedd Gyorko will start at second base and is batting first in the lineup. 1B Brandon Moss will start at first base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko is batting only .157 so far this month and has only three RBI in the past 12 games. Owners should be able to find better options to use. Moss is batting .421 with three home runs and six RBI over the last seven days and is a solid option for fantasy owners.

Cardinals | Jhonny Peralta out Thursday

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 11:59:38 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS/3B Jhonny Peralta is out of the lineup Thursday, June 9, with 2B/SS Jedd Gyorko taking his place.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko has had trouble finding playing time but has a decent .255-6-16 line in 106 at-bats. He's a low-end consideration against left-hander Brandon Finnegan.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong sitting out

Tue, 31 May 2016 14:33:32 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 31. 2B Jedd Gyorko is starting at second base and is batting eighth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko carries notable power (five homers in 98 at-bats) but has limited daily upside hitting low in the order tonight. He's facing a hittable pitcher in Peralta, though, so he could be successful as a low-end second base sleeper selection in DFS action.

Cardinals | St. Louis sitting four starters

Sun, 29 May 2016 09:18:18 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz, OF Stephen Piscotty, C Yadier Molina and 2B Kolten Wong are not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg Sunday, May 29. SS Greg Garcia will start in shortstop and is batting second. 1B Brandon Moss will start in left field and is batting sixth. 2B Jedd Gyorko will start in second base and is batting seventh, while C Eric Fryer will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has played very well over the last seven days and should be sleeper candidate in daily fantasy leagues. Moss, Gyorko and Fryer has struggled recently and can be avoided in most leagues.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong out of Saturday lineup

Sat, 28 May 2016 15:38:20 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is not in the lineup Saturday, May 28, against the Washington Nationals. 2B Jedd Gyorko will start and bat seventh against Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: Wong gets the night off because of the lefty vs. lefty matchup. Although Gyorko has decent numbers in the past week and on the road, his numbers against the Nationals suggest you may be better off leaving Gyorko on the bench for the night.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong not starting again

Sat, 21 May 2016 12:25:17 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is not in the lineup on Saturday, May 21, against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray. 2B/SS Jedd Gyorko will play second and bat eighth in his stead.

Fantasy Tip: Wong, who didn't start Friday either, only has 18 at-bats against southpaws in 2016 and is struggling at the plate anyway, so this should not come as a surprise. Then again, Gyorko is only hitting .182 against left-handers and has cooled considerably following a hot start to the season. Both players should be avoided in all but the deepest of leagues.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong sitting vs. Arizona

Fri, 20 May 2016 15:17:56 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 20. 2B/SS Jedd Gyorko is starting at second base and batting sixth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Wong has begun to turn around his early-season woes with an active seven-game hitting streak and a 1.006 OPS. He has five-category upside, but it has been a rough start. He likely should be left to deep mixed and NL-only formats at this point. Gyorko has a respectable .262/.338/.411 against left-handed pitchers since the beginning of last year, and he is a viable low-priced flier in daily contests Friday.

Cardinals | Jedd Gyorko could play some outfield

Wed, 18 May 2016 16:53:47 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Jedd Gyorko could move to the outfield to provide depth once SS Jhonny Peralta (thumb) is back from the disabled list, according to manager Mike Matheny.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko is eligible at both shortstop and second base in most leagues, too, so adding outfield eligibility would just increase his value in deeper leagues. He won't hit for average (.210), but he has decent pop for a middle infielder. Because his playing time is sporadic off the bench, he's really only rosterable in NL-only leagues right now.
