Astros | Dallas Keuchel snaps cold streak

Sat, 28 May 2016 16:49:06 -0700

Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel snapped a five-game losing streak Saturday, May 28, when he pitched seven innings in a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. It was the first win since April 15 for Keuchel, who entered this game with a 5.92 earned run average.

Fantasy Tip: One win doesn't turn around a season, but there's no doubt Keuchel is a much better pitcher than this season has gone. Part of it has to do with weak Astros hitting, which hasn't entirely turned around yet. Wait and see if Keuchel can string together two wins in a row, at which point it may be safer to put him back in your lineup.

Angels | Rafael Ortega out of Saturday lineup

Sat, 28 May 2016 15:51:07 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Rafael Ortega will not start Saturday, May 28, against the Houston Astros. OF Shane Robinson is starting and hitting ninth against Astros SP Dallas Keuchel.

Fantasy Tip: Ortega is a lefty and so is Keuchel, and that is most likely the reason for Ortega's absence from the lineup. Robinson carries little fantasy value with a .143 average in the past week and primary pinch-hitting duty late in games. Ortega is a .274-1-9 hitter in 23 games whose primary help comes in DFS leagues. Even so, Ortega doesn't have enough power to merit starting him every time he plays.

Astros | Dallas Keuchel falling behind

Tue, 24 May 2016 10:37:49 -0700

Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel is falling behind in counts often this year as he struggles. He has fallen behind in counts 37.9% of the time this season. Last year he fell behind to 34.8% of the batters he faced.

Fantasy Tip: Last year's AL Cy Young, Keuchel has been one of the biggest fantasy disappointments in 2016. His 5.92 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 7.7 strikeouts per nine innings leave a ton to be desired. His smoke-and-mirrors act isn't getting it done, and his 3.8 walks per nine innings have really come back to hurt him. Until he becomes more aggressive on the mound, he's likely to continue suffering from bad results. Right now, he's a shaky option that should only be used in the right matchups.

Astros | Dallas Keuchel hit hard

Sun, 22 May 2016 16:52:11 -0700

Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel allowed seven runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out six over six innings in a loss to the Texas Rangers Sunday, May 22.

Fantasy Tip: The defending Cy Young winner continues to struggle. Hang on to him in the hopes he turns things around, but you may want to keep him on your bench until he shows signs of improvement.

Astros | Dallas Keuchel rocked again

Thu, 12 May 2016 19:36:03 -0700

Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel fell to 2-5 with a loss to the Boston Red Sox Thursday, May 12, allowing eight runs on 10 hits while walking three and striking out four over six innings. His ERA rose to 5.58.

Fantasy Tip: If you drafted the defending AL Cy Young winner, you have no choice but to stick with him. If he isn't on your roster, view him as a potential buy-low candidate.

Astros | Dallas Keuchel looks to get untracked

Fri, 06 May 2016 20:57:05 -0700

Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel looks to get back on track Saturday, May 7, against the Seattle Mariners after losing three straight starts.

Fantasy Tip: Keuchel was untouchable last season, especially at home, but he allowed five runs and seven hits in just 4 1/3 innings in his shortest start of the season last time out to snap a 17-game home winning streak. He is still considered a must-start fantasy option despite his 2-4 record and 5.11 ERA, but he needs to get it turned around in a hurry.

Astros | Dallas Keuchel struggles again

Mon, 02 May 2016 23:48:25 -0700

Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel allowed five runs on five hits and struck out three in 4 1/3 innings in his loss to the Minnesota Twins Monday, May 2. It ended a 17-game home winning streak. He's now 2-4 with a 5.11 ERA.

Fantasy Tip: If you own him, you don't have much choice but to wait it out. What's different between he and Adam Wainwright's struggles is that Keuchel doesn't have an extended history of success to fall back on. He faces the Seattle Mariners next, and it's worth consideration to sit him.

Astros | Dallas Keuchel's perfection at home

Mon, 02 May 2016 15:40:11 -0700

Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel is 17-0 with a 1.47 ERA in his last 22 home starts. His last loss at Minute Maid Park came on Aug. 10, 2014.

Fantasy Tip: The reigning AL Cy Young winner is out to a slow start, but if there's one silver lining, it's that his dominance at home is still intact. In fact, of his five starts thus far, only one has been at Minute Maid, and that was easily his best outing of the year, when he fired eight shutout innings against the Detroit Tigers. Fortunately, he'll have a favorable home assignment this evening opposite the Minnesota Twins.

Astros | Dallas Keuchel has terrific outing

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 05:12:00 -0700

Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel pitched eight scoreless innings against the Detroit Tigers Friday, April 15, to pick up his second win of the season. He allowed five hits during the game while striking out four batters.

Fantasy Tip: Keuchel has had three decent performances in his first three starts and has allowed only 14 hits in 20 2/3 innings. He is scheduled to face the Texas Rangers in his next start and can be a solid starting option in most leagues.

Astros | Dallas Keuchel has a day to forget

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 15:25:06 -0700

Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel yielded three runs and struck out eight over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, April 10. However, he tied a career high with six walks - including four in the first inning alone.

Fantasy Tip: Incidentally, Keuchel's other six-walk effort came as a rookie in 2012 against Milwaukee. After issuing four free passes over seven frames in his 2016 debut, last year's American League Cy Young Award winner is almost 20% of the way to his season total from last season (51 in 33 turns, spanning 232 innings) through two starts. Owners should keep him in their lineups, but his control problems are something to keep an eye heading into Friday's start at home against the Detroit Tigers.
