Vikings | Matt Asiata ruled out

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 13:55:49 -0800

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata (concussion) did not participate in practice and has been ruled out for Week 12.

Fantasy Tip: With Asiata out, Jerick McKinnon will likely continue to get most of the work, and will cost $5,400 in FantasyScore. Ben Tate could also see carries , and will cost $4,900 in FantasyScore.

Vikings | Matt Asiata sits out Friday

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 10:04:58 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata (concussion) missed his third straight day of practice Friday, Nov. 21.

Fantasy Tip: We'll have to wait and see what Asiata's status is for Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers, but it doesn't look good. Ignore him at FantasyScore. Jerick McKinnon ($5,400) should continue to take the lead-back duties, but newly-signed Ben Tate ($4,900) could have a pretty significant role in his team debut if Asiata is out. Tate makes for an interesting flex option, especially if he sees goal-line work.

Vikings | Matt Asiata sitting again

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 11:26:22 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata (concussion) is not participating in practice Thursday, Nov. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Asiata will have to pass his concussion tests before being cleared to play, so he could miss Week 12. Jerick McKinnon and Ben Tate likely would see time at running back if Asiata is ruled out. McKinnon likely would receive a majority of the work since Tate joined the team earlier in the week. McKinnon costs $5,400 on FantasyScore and could be a good starting option. Owners should avoid using Ben Tate until he has a better understanding of the offense.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon still the lead back

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 10:52:53 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) will retain the lead-back role, even after the team claimed RB Ben Tate off waivers from the Cleveland Browns Wednesday, Nov. 19, according to offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Turner said Tate was brought in for insurance because both McKinnon and RB Matt Asiata (concussion) were dealing with injuries this week. McKinnon said he will be ready for Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers. However, Asiata's status is in doubt. "We're excited about Jerick and what he's done and I see him as our running back," Turner said. "He's been limited in practice last week and couldn't practice (Wednesday) So you got to protect yourself, obviously with Matt not being able to practice (Wednesday) and in doubt as to whether he'll play or not."

Fantasy Tip: The real loser of the Tate signing has to be Asiata. McKinnon ($5,400) should play against the Packers, but how much will the Vikes run if they fall behind big early? Tate ($4,900) looks to be part of another committee, but he'll have better chance for fantasy success in his new digs. Consider him a flex option at FantasyScore.

Vikings | Ben Tate gives Vikes depth

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 14:07:02 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Ben Tate gives the team much-needed depth at the running back position, with RBs Jerick McKinnon (back) and Matt Asiata (concussion) both missing practice Wednesday, Nov. 19. McKinnon leads the team with 484 yards and a 4.9 yards per carry average, while Asiata has six rushing touchdowns and a one receiving TD, but he has just 3.3 yards per carry.

Fantasy Tip: Tate ($4,900) could become part of another three-headed monster in Minnesota, but one would think he'd have a better shot at fantasy success this time around, especially with McKinnon ($5,400) and Asiata ($4,100) injured this week. Tate could wind up starting this weekend against the Green Bay Packers, but this backfield could be a crapshoot at FantasyScore, especially if the Packers get out to an early lead.

Vikings | Matt Asiata does not practice

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 13:18:24 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to see if Asiata will be able to practice later in the week. Jerick McKinnon is also injured, so Ben Tate could receive playing time in his first game with the Vikings. Tate costs $4,900 on FantasyScore, but owners may want to avoid using him since he probably will not have a great understanding of the offense yet.

Vikings | Matt Asiata runs for three TDs

Sun, 02 Nov 2014 18:20:19 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata carried 10 times for 26 yards and three touchdowns in Week 9 against the Washington Redskins. He also hauled in four balls for 31 yards. It was Asiata's third career three-touchdown game, the most of any undrafted player in his first three seasons since 1967.

Fantasy Tip: Asiata is huge around the goal line, and as long as he remains healthy, his presence will eat into the fantasy appeal of Jerick McKinnon.

Vikings | MIN RBs share workload

Mon, 27 Oct 2014 05:48:18 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon played 43 snaps Sunday, Oct. 26, while RB Matt Asiata played 27. McKinnon accounted for 61 percent of the offensive snaps, while Asiata played 39 percent.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is the clear leader at the position, but he's only a matchup play right now on FantasyScore.

Vikings | Matt Asiata sees limited touches

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 14:56:09 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata carried just six times for 24 yards in Week 7 against the Buffalo Bills, while posting one reception for 13 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Rookie Jerick McKinnon had 21 total touches, and he went over 100 rushing yards in the loss. Asiata's fantasy star has clearly dimmed, and he appears to be second on the depth chart behind the Georgia Southern product. Avoid Asiata in FantasyScore going forward unless McKinnon's production slips or he is injured.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon a lone bright spot

Mon, 13 Oct 2014 11:31:24 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon received his first start of his career in the team's Week 6 loss to the Detroit Lions. He had 11 carries for 40 yards and also a team-high six catches for 42 yards, as he was the lone bright spot of the offense. RB Matt Asiata had only two carries for negative five yards and one catch for 18 yards in the game. It was the first time Asiata didn't have double-digit carries since RB Adrian Peterson has been out.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon has stepped up and made the most of his expanded workload, and it looks like he may be taking the starting job from Asiata. McKinnon is a more of an all-purpose back, too, making him more valuable in PPR formats like FantasyScore. The Vikings face a tough running matchup against the Buffalo Bills in Week 7, though.
