The Seattle Mariners recalled RP Carter Capps from the minors Tuesday, Aug. 6, and released OF Jason Bay in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Capps could become an option for saves in the ninth inning if Danny Farquhar stumbles. Pick him up in AL-only leagues if you're hunting for save avenues.

The Seattle Mariners are active in trade discussions that involve RP Tom Wilhelmsen and RP Oliver Perez, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: If the M's were able to deal both players, save situations would likely be handled on a committee basis. Yoervis Medina would probably be the top candidate for them, however. Stephen Pryor (lat) and Carter Capps (on the farm) could also factor in eventually.

Seattle Mariners SP Erasmo Ramirez was promoted from Triple-A Tacoma in order to start the club's game against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, July 11. He took the 40-man spot vacated when the club designated SP Jeremy Bonderman for assignment, and the Mariners optioned RP Carter Capps to open up a spot on the 25-man roster for him.
Fantasy Tip: Ramirez has some flaws, but he generates strikeouts and limits walks, and there's plenty of upside, so mixed leaguers should be on his trail and pick him up if their leagues are even remotely deep.

Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge said RP Tom Wilhelmsen has worked his way back into ninth-inning duties after taking a break for three weeks.
Fantasy Tip: Wilhelmsen is likely still owned in all leagues, but if he's not, pick him up immediately. It isn't worth hanging onto Oliver Perez or Carter Capps unless you're in a really deep AL-only league.

Seattle Mariners RP Oliver Perez recorded his first major league save Friday, June 14.
Fantasy Tip: Three out of the four batters he faced were right-handed, including two out of three due up when he took the mound. That might mean trusts him to get at least a piece of this committee setup with Tom Wilhelmsen being kept from save spots. If you can pick up Perez with no strings attached, go for it; he's had a career revival in the bullpen and isn't the same wild thing he used to be as a starter. However, don't assume he'll be the only one to record a closure in the future. They still have Carter Capps, among others, to use.

Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen will not close for at least the next two or three games. The team wants to see him work in non-save situations, working on better location for his pitches. Manager Eric Wedge said Friday, June 14, that the team will mix and match save opportunities, with no specific pitchers mentioned.
Fantasy Tip: Don't drop Wilhelmsen anywhere yet. Eric Wedge seemingly is aiming to get him back into the role; the goal of having the righty work on his pitches says this looks temporary. However, Carter Capps has closer-like skills, and if Wilhelmsen stumbles, Capps could take over. He's the first one you should pick up. Of course, it's stated to be a mix-and-match situation, so other relievers, such as Yoervis Medina and Charlie Furbush (for lefty situations) could be used and net AL-only managers some points, as well. If this problem lingers, maybe Stephen Pryor (lat) will have a say later in the year.

Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Wednesday, April 17, that RP Carter Capps will be the setup man to RP Tom Wilhelmsen, with RP Oliver Perez likely the late-inning guy when the team is ahead.
Fantasy Tip: Wilhelmsen is the clear-cut closer in Seattle, and the skipper might mix and match with Capps and Perez as setup men late in games when they are ahead. Wilhelmsen is a must-have in all AL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats, while Capps and Perez are only worth a look in deeper AL rotisserie play for help in the ERA and WHIP categories.

Seattle Mariners RP Carter Capps has been relying too much on his fastball; he threw 36 fastballs of his 39 pitches Wednesday, Aug. 29, and manager Eric Wedge would like to see Capps mix in his curveball more often. Capps allowed three runs and four hits to see his ERA rise to 5.87. "It should have been a good experience for him," said Wedge. "He was able to throw 35-40 pitches, but he has to use all his pitches. That was just way too many fastballs. He has a great fastball, but up here these big league hitters, it doesn't matter how hard you throw, they can turn it around." Capps hit 100 mph in his outing Wednesday.
