Astros | Dexter Fowler to return Wednesday

Tue, 12 Aug 2014 14:17:28 -0700

Houston Astros OF Dexter Fowler (intercostal) is set to be activated from the disabled list Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Jake Marisnick is expected to move to right field when Fowler comes back, with Robbie Grossman starting mostly in left field. The setback for George Springer (quadriceps) will give Grossman a little longer shelf life in the Houston outfield.

Astros | Jake Marisnick batting seventh

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 13:18:13 -0700

Houston Astros OF Jake Marisnick is batting seventh and playing center field Friday, August 1, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick stole five bases during a 14-game stint with the Miami Marlins earlier this season. Owners in need of a stolen-base boost in deep mixed and AL-only leagues could take a flier on Marisnick. Daily gamers looking for a low-budget play in the outfield tonight could also take a chance on Marisnick. J.A. Happ has allowed right-handed hitters to bat .299 against him this season.

Marlins | Acquire Jarred Cosart

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 13:53:17 -0700

The Miami Marlins acquired SP Jarred Cosart, INF/OF Enrique Hernandez and OF Austin Wates from the Houston Astros. Houston received OF Jake Marisnick, INF Colin Moran, P Francis Martes and a compensatory pick for the 2015 MLB Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Moving to the National League helps Cosart's fantasy value. He is a must-add in NL-only leagues. Cosart is worth a speculative add in deep mixed leagues and could pitch his way into being a viable option in the majority of formats. Marisnick is worth an add in AL-only formats, if he sticks with the Astros.

Marlins | Jake Marisnick's speed impressing

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 14:39:57 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Jake Marisnick stole two bases in his first game with the team Monday, June 16, filling in for OF Christian Yelich (back). Marisnick stole 17 bases in 21 tries with Triple-A New Orleans. The Marlins as a team are tied for the fewest stolen bases in all of baseball with just 35. Marisnick fine-tuned his base-stealing techniques in spring training this year.

Fantasy Tip: The combination of Marisnick's speed and power is what makes him an intriguing youngster. He should be part of the team's emerging outfield in years to come. However, he could be headed back to the minors once Yelich returns to full health. Keep that in mind.

Marlins | Christian Yelich to DL, top prospects coming up

Mon, 16 Jun 2014 11:45:27 -0700

The Miami Marlins placed OF Christian Yelich (back) on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain Monday, June 16, and optioned 2B Donovan Solano to Triple-A New Orleans. Also, SP Andrew Heaney and Anthony DeSclafani, OF Jake Marisnick and INF Justin Bour have been recalled from the minors. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (concussion) was moved to the 15-day DL.

Fantasy Tip: With Yelich sidelined, the Fish have decided to call up two of the their top prospects in Andrew Heaney and Jake Marisnick. Heaney should be expected to have a starting rotation spot with Randy Wolf being cut. Add Heaney immediately in all formats. Marisnick will likely fill in in center in place of Yelich. Marisnick has above average hitting skills across the board, including raw power and plus speed. Marisnick should be owned in NL-only and deep mixed formats, but keep in mind that his stay could be short.
